The best way to shoot down nukes is to use nukes. Thats how nuclear ICBMs are shot down, not that it has ever happened. But it is theoretically the most effective way to shoot down nukes. So I was thinking, "What if the nuke launchers can be configured as defense?" It would be very interesting, and also very helpful in career against the ai enemies with nukes.

so all the intercepting nuke has to do is just point ahead of it to intercept it
hard to say if it would even be able to do that
things target at where the projectile is iirc
and given how nukes have two phases one for targeting the other for launching theres not much room for error
i feel like target lead should just be implemented into game
maybe some other dedicated missile based PD as it sounds kinda weird given how nukes work in game, there has been a few post for that before
fragmentation missles maybe?
missles that explode in front of other projectiles and send a blast of shrapnel forward, almost like a shotgun

Flack already explode and that is what does the damage so would act like that functionally just feel like Nukes specifically would be a bad platform

Nukes have very high HP and speed and it's hard for a barrel of point defenses or flaks to stop a rain of it. However, a defensive nuke can hopefully erase multiple nukes at once, which is expensive but still economical.
what about all missiles can explode in contact with other missiles ?

how would you make sure 20 nukes dont all try to shoot down the same nuke? It would actually be quite easy to bait them

no but, in general, when two missiles colides, they explodes
so a swarm can just explode herself, and destroyed nukes by pd destroy the other nukes behind it
name one instance where a nuke got shot down by pd, it's really rare because nukes have a ton of hp, they're also usually sent in groups of 4, swarms of nukes are just ineffective because there is a huge risk since you can easily just turn around and dodge them
overall i think that pd nukes are just a nerf to nukes
you can dodge nukes and every projectile already has something that counters it
now that you say that, only way I can see this being added is if nukes have tracking
and don't take a straight path
...which is how they used to work and it was changed because it was boring. They were still dodgeable back then, tho
Nukes now are a lot cooler looking
