i went up to a station that was for some reason drifting, went to the crew tab where the number of crew on the station "wanting to join my ship" was rapidly decreasing, tapped buy and crashed. looking at the crash report i'm thinking the game tried to get the cost of a crew person but just when it tried to do that, it disappeared from the station?

i had an autosave that has been overwritten
i just increased how many autosaves my game keeps so maybe next time i could have one

Actually wait, when you say the amount of crew was decreasing, any idea what was causing that? To my knowledge trade ships can't buy crew off of stations, only vice versa.

wild idea: the station was moving away from me, so if the possible crew to buy is determined also by the crew member's distance from the buying (player's) ship so that if the ship is too far away you can't buy it, maybe that could be it?

I don't think that's it, it's based on the distance between the ships, not the individual crew.

Oh, if the station was moving, maybe its spare crew were EVA and asphyxiated?

just before this thing happened, i had been near the station and noticed a bunch of dead crew. i thought that they were my crew and reloaded the previous autosave, and then this thing happened
