Quite an odd behavior... I was just testing shield strength. One of the arrays got their reactor destroyed by a disruptor test ship, leaving a bunch of crew to be thrown out. I repaired the ship and reset the crew, as I always do, but instead of putting all the crew in their right spots, it crammed all of them into this specific compartment setup, even if it already had all the crew in it. additionally, these crew are just aimlessly walking around as you'd expect from a bunkless crew member, and are not being counted into the total crew tally.
#Something wrong with the game counting the crew and ''Reset crew'' button

In the original, it showed 4 CREW even if there are dozens crawling around like ants.
Gaem saev
Reset crew doing nothing to fix that.
Uh so, when I load that save there are definitely more crew than intended, but oddly they have the white role (the last one in the list) instead of the blue one as indicated in your screenshots. It's almost as if those crew don't think they belong to that ship despite having boarded it, since they definitely aren't counting towards the total crew counter and aren't taking any jobs. Also upon manually resetting the entire ship all crew are dropped into EVA and wander randomly; if they were part of the original ship they should be completely deleted then recreated, and even if they weren't they should follow their source ship.
With all of that being said, while a savegame definitely shows that something went wrong, I don't think it'll be very helpful in actually figuring out why something went wrong. I'll do some tests on this, but if you have any clues on what might cause it (or can consistently reproduce it), please let me know. If you're really interested in trying to figure it out yourself, create a private MP room or enable singleplayer recording in dev mode, so in addition to a savegame you'll have a rec file that very likely will make debugging the issue easy.
Oh, a couple questions:
- When I detonate one of those large reactors manually it chain reacts with the control room. Is that what happened to you also?
- What exactly are you referring to when you say you "reset the crew"? I remember a "reset crew"
option way way back when in classic mode before crew automatically teleported to beds, but it should've been removed and I can't find it.
i assume it's this button
🤔 TIL
Oh I'd bet that's for handing EVA crew since they can get stuck outside of the ship and won't teleport back to corridors
and when u remove airlocks and they're on a part they shouldn't be able to get to
It's almost as if those crew don't think they belong to that ship despite having boarded it
Hmm, that's certainly weird because they are definitely occupying some place and not allowing me to respawn any of my actual crew, I still think they belong to the ship as they spawned inside the left array when I clicked ''reset crew'' and I'm sure that they're the ones who got knocked off of the right array when it combusted after some damage absorption testing.
Q.1: Surprisingly, no. When the right reactor exploded, it severely damaged the room and caught it on fire, after that it died. I even made a gif for some reason don't judge me
[Oh right I made the gif to showcase how important the crew is for LSs]
Uh that's really weird, not sure why the large reactor would do so little damage. I hope it's not accidentally set to scale with battery input, let me check that.
No, that's definitely not it. Nothing in the code to indicate it scales, and manually detonating a full and fully discharged reactor have the exact same damage to armor.
Anyway I don't think the reactor is directly related at least, though it might have something to do with the CR somehow, idk.
When you're resetting crew are you doing so with the game paused, or unpaused?
I've done in both ways.
Any idea which way it was when the crew got messed up? Also do you remember if the CR was destroyed or just unmanned?
I actually have no idea unfortunately. It was probably destroyed at that point already, as it had very little HP remaining.
Oh also, when I re-loaded that world, the crew turned white just like with yours, but not all of them. Two or three of them were still wandering in their blue shieldman outfits..
