and thats what i aim for, not to be perfect at hosting, because i am far from perfect (and perfect is an unrealistic standard in pretty much any context), but to do my best, own up to mistakes and act on them as soon as possible, so i can do better next time

this is also why im always open to feedback on my contests and how i hold them, so if i make a mistake, no matter how big or small, let me know, and ill try to avoid it in future contests

@strange mango I know this is quite abrupt, but... I wonder, now that I'm 100% sure that only 2 of my 8 ships (3.5mil total) made it in, accounting for only 2 million out of th 3.5mil budget... Am I still restrained to money limit of the other 6 ships adding upon it, like am I not allowed to add stuff like hyperdrives upon the two ships because it will exceed 3.5mil with the other ships added upon it, ones that didn't win?

I sure hope not because Shattered Anvil really do be needing those warpdrives though.

ive mostly finished the rules for the upcoming unofficial themed contest with much more flexible rules. a couple things to look forward too:
build in mods are allowed, including huge ships (with an upper limit of a 250 by 250 grit).
little to no rules regarding prices.

keep in mind that it being an unofficial contest means that winning ships wont get added to the game, and winners wont get the funny discord role. instead, i will personally offer a free pixel art commission for first, second, and third place. size of the artwork scales according to the winning position (200 by 200 for first, 100 by 100 for second and 50 by 50 for third)

1, you could, but i would advice not too, purely due to the time limit, i would go with 1, maybe 2 huge ships, and a few smaller ones.
2 illegal ships are allowed to some extend, but going over the 250 by 250 limit is not, you can do things like hinges, joints and disconnecting parts without explosives by building illegal

Okay here's a very interesting backup-style ship that I call ''Cherkhov's Gunman.''

It plays off the trope called ''Cherkhov's Gun'' that some of might not have heard of before that states that a loaded rifle should not be placed on the field if it will never go off.

I.e. something like a character or anything else like a background detail that might seem insignificant at first but comes out to be very important at a certain part of the plot and has its gigantic payoff at the end.

I think the backup style complements this trope extremely well, with the pathetic cannons turning into 8 nukes in yar face.

Yeah that is a humungous issue that I would run in when making Steampunk ships.

The edges and some areas, especially uniform arrays are REALLY fun to paint but the more middle parts and the large cravises in the inner chunk of the ship are extremely hard to creatively paint and come up with stuff to fill it up with.

I finished TRC the most agonizing build of my life in the last week (However I had help I guess) with combined 30 hours spent on it in the last week alone so I mean I look like a natural for this.

To re-iterate, it originally took me about 50 minutes to assemble THREE FOURTHS of the ship, and limit for Cosmoteer gifs is 30 or 45 seconds, I don't remember. Well I guess a soundless video will suffice.

For the record I really don't feel like taking 500 consecutive gifs.

My gifs folder is cluttered enough as is.

Rather optimistically however, that said 3/4 can individually fly very reliably without collapsing.

The locking yuuki taught me is very effective if tedious to set up.

Still nowhere CLOSE to begin as tedious as it would be if I chose the competitive locking method, which even on the extremely tidy and already re-centred competitive ships took me hours upon hours of fiddling to figure out and make.

This by comparison only took me 50 minutes to make which is a huge upgrade.

in the context of this contest, it doesn't really matter all that much, as far as submissions go, treat them as a standard multi ship submission, just with the addition of either a save game with the combined ship or an explanation on how to combine them

though if you want an answer to the question anyway, i guess there are as many ships as their are working and intended formations. so if there are 4 ships that combine into 1 intended super ship, there are 5 ships total

though again, its not really all that important this contest, and this answer does not need to be considered seriously during any point of this contest

even if it doesnt work flawlessly, its still a very impressive feat that you are pulling off in cosmoteer, ship to ship connections are not easy to pull off in this game (as far as i can tell at least, other than a few small scale hinges, i haven't really looked into it myself), but when they work, they are usually a sight to behold, specially on larger scales

in case some of you havent commissioned an artist before, its usually different per artist but heres some basics:

provide reference material, preferably in the form of images (a dedicated ref sheet is ideal but if thats not available, a small collection of images of the character will also work), but if thats not possible there are other ways to get your idea across, like a detailed description.

get your idea across completely right at the start, aka dont ask to change a major concept later on, thats like being almost done painting a ship and being asked to change it from a tanky ion core to a fast point defence wall (im pretty out of the loop when it comes to modern meta builds but you get the idea)

as for me and my commissions specifically, im still trying to figure things out as im pretty new to doing commissioned artworks

This is a very funny line because most fast PD walls are also ion core ships.

I know I am being needlessly pedantic and you did say you're out of touch from pvp ships, but I just found it funny.

The tanky to ultralight part is completely true though.

One can't just transform a ship paint from armored to unarmored as that'd mean scrapping many elements.
