#If you have too many valuables in your cargo hold; pirates would ambush you

Me and my buddies always have a ship/station that we use like a bank, and is usually parked next to a NPC station. One time a Sol Renatus showed up and attacked the NPC station, where we had our station parked, it was a mad dash back to defend and epic battle with high stakes 🙂
It was a lot of fun.

We all know that it was a freak accident that that ship showed up, but the story I like to tell is how a pirate in Sol Renatus tried to break our bank 🙂

It should be a low probability event, so it doesn't distract you from exploration and doing your own stuff.

The problem is that you can't move much faster than a pirate - if you had the time to recall all fighter crew from salvaging or whatever, jump / fly to storage ship, and engage the pirate before it attacks this might work. But that isn't how things work, so you'd just jump your storage ship away to another station

Yeah, i completely agree having a jump drive means that once you have everybody on board you can jump away (or even leave ppl behind)
With a good setup spinning it up takes only 4-5 seconds, so nobody would accept that battle

There are some plans to maybe have stealth/cloaking (https://trello.com/c/e9oGKSWP not sure how up to date it is), so maybe then it would work out as an ambush

Again, an ambush still wouldn't allow you to get your main ship there.
The problem is, if there is time for you to jump your fighter ship in, then there is time for you to get your storage ship out

I understand, there is nothing that prevents you from jumping out at moment
So yes the whole thing is a moot point right now

"Events" just seem like a logical place to develop the game in time.
