But before deciding I would like to see where this translation is being used. Referring to this #1039674049124651048 message
It’s for ship hailing
So I think greeting isn’t that strange
But I’m not Spanish so what do I know
When I put "hailing" in Google translate (idk what that word is tbh) it says for me if it should search that word in Chinese 😅
Will look it up when I am home. German mobile data connection on train is not the best
hail: call out to someone to attract attention.
similar: greet, salute, address, speak to
from google dictionary
ok
so does it mean: "making contact with sth/so." . If it does "CONTACTAR" would be, imo, the best fitting word. For the action being done.
no
yes
yes
yes
a boat will hail the dock to say they are arriving
the greating goes like this, "hello, we are a ship and we want to dock"
Ok, now I understand the definition of "hail" better.
yeah, it isnt a word to say to the other person, like we don't go "Hail!" to the other person
it is a action we commit to grab a persons attention
yeah
my first thought was this on the word "hail"
yeah, becuase its the same spelling
fucking hate hail
welcome to english
stfu
croatian has three words like that
Zemlja - Earth
Zemlja - Country
Zemlja - Dirt
thats all the same thing its pointing to the ground
hail and hailing isnt, yet those are both plurals to the same word with vastly different meanings
un barco va a contactar el puerto. Para decir que estan llegando. 🇪🇸
interesting
^^this could be near 1:1 translation
yes, but the ship is going to contact the port from an outsiders perspective, but what do you do as the captain to "hail" the port?
bruh wtf
is it the same word?
y
contact and hail are synonyms
🇪🇸 El capitán está contactando el puerto ...
🇬🇧 The captain is contacting the port ...
and yes. there are accents missing 😄 not anymore
looks like we found the right word.
i'll post the original thread so you can share to clear how the confusion came about if you would like

Yeah, already saw this. I have never heard anyone use that word. And its also a noun.
yeah, i get my self confused on what words are, native speaker here.
i just know the context to use them in really
of what?
i accedently said this was a plural, its not, i forgot the name
native speaker of what
English
Yeah the context is very important. The direct word meaning could be totally correct. But the way it is used can be very diffrent depending on the action.
huh. I was editing the post message to the correct way. With extra info 🇪🇸 🇬🇧 . But now it got deleted when I saved it by @mild herald ?
can't have more than 4 emojis in a single post
either way, its 4, but i figured it was that
u cant have more than 4 emojis in a single message ...
yup.
dyno is shit
btw
afaik everyone here hates him
Deleted message from this post cuz dyno deletes message if more than 4 emojis.....
As message states "contactar" would be the better word instead of "saludar"
🇪🇸 ~ 🇬🇧
"SALUDAR"
Haixung y Pedro se estan saludano. ~ Haixung and Pedro are greeting each other.
"CONTACTAR"
El tren A està contactando el tren B. ~ Train A is contacting train B.
So is the consensus that I should use CONTACTAR instead of SALUDAR?
Yes. Would be great.
In the context with "hail" it has the closest meaning and should be understood for the Spanish speaking community
