This is not a simple "ion beam splitter"

This prism will look in either direction to see if there is a detected enemy
It will only redirect the beam in the direction that an enemy is in
If there is an enemy on both sides, the beam will be divided between both directions.
You can also force which direction with a toggle button

This would allow for more creative ion setups such as an ion broadsider that can redirect its full power to a single side

I think the main reason they don't have that is because ion beams are super powerful. Being able to have them pick between multiple routes would significantly increase their power.

this was shut down due to uselessness and difficulty to actually implement

that's not how prisms work. single ion beams into prisms don't have their damage decreased

tribal cargo
#

I meant splitting beams in half

sick rune
#

i know but you said the first prism would decrease their damage by 25% not because of splitting and that isn't true

round meteor
#

Yes, but it isn't a splitter.

pulsar venture
#

prisms dont take 25% off of single beams

round meteor
#

Reread it. He's stating specifically that it redirects 100% of damage to whichever prism has a target.

pulsar venture
#

only when they are being combined

read descriptions better

#

bet you didnt know you can right click stuff with the grab tool

There's a lot of fine print. Also there's lots of guides to getting to know the features in-depth.

shell pagoda
#

you might be able to mod this in without much trouble

pulsar venture
#

prisms already cause a lot of lag we dont need new ones that are more complex

#

I'm not great at explaining so I'm heading out of here

Yeah, and that it will intelligently switch between the prisms depending on which does or does not have a target. With two prisms back to back like that, you can have one prism targeting them, but it would still take (a variable amount of time depending on degree of arc) for it to retarget and begin supplying the new beam.

it balances its self out lol

round meteor

By having an extra hole?

Or you have a two-way prism that targets two other two way prisms, and now you have four possible apertures to attack from... Put one on each corner of your ship and you're in business.

#

You'll be able to shoot no matter the angle, and if one gets destroyed, another will be able to take over the shooting.

shell pagoda
#

yeah that's the point of the idea

#

when you have a giant ion core going to one prism

#

if that prism is destoryed

#

you lose the entire ion core as a weapon

pulsar venture
shell pagoda
#

the prism's difficulty to destroy does not scale with the ion power fed into it

#

which is why you basically never see mega ion ships with very powerful ions fed through aiming prims, its just too easy to shut that down

#

having a way to keep useing that ion core in a convenient manner would help and allow for cool things! (as well as being a splitter some people want, but with an actual use)

pulsar venture
#

you can just micro

shell pagoda
pulsar venture
#

so is having something that takes the most complex weapon in the game and adds to it

shell pagoda
#

i don't think that is how inconvenience works

pulsar venture
#

it becomes more inconvenient to explain how it works

pretty sure that when u look at a prism that points in 2 directions ur just gonna assume it splits the beam into two
