Replication:
-switch to desktop mode
-freshly install game from steam
-start game
-first time loading -> crashes at around 90-95%

Full game crash on Steam Deck (IN DESKTOP MODE)

Proton Experimental: FAIL
Proton 7.0: FAIL
Proton 6.3-8: FAIL
Severity of the ticket can be lowered since there's a workaround available
updated post with WO for other people who have this problem
When running in DEV mode it crashes at "BuildInShips" step of loading

I tried different resolutions just in case i even set my other monitor to the native resolution of the deck (1280x800)
still results in a crash

ive been looking at the log some more
appears that "C:\windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\wminet_utils.dll" inside the compatdata folder is missing

I believe that wminet_utils.dll being missing is harmless. The only thing Cosmoteer uses that for is getting your system specs to log them in the log file.

Yep, perfectly but Desktop is crashing at the end of loading, exactly like @uncut basalt

I think it's missing certain files for .net in desktop mode (or at least that's what the log says)

those errors are normal on Linux and harmless

Hey ! Just retried to launch the game in Desktop mode this morning after the small updates of yesterday, and it works perfectly ! 😄

Glad to hear, but I have no idea why. I did not knowingly fix anything on my end. Did Steam Deck get an update?
