Removes the point of the Fame system so very unlikely
Also why would the people you were just killing wanna join you?
I mean yes, buuuuuut I also mentioned war prisoners. Could be sold off, or over time converted to crew.
Slave labor
Maybe have a prison stations and prison cells on ships that you can deliver to stations to collect bounties

They might not be the ones you were killing, but the ones pirates were killing, you just happened to be near their wreck and able to rescue them.
Perhaps create a slave branding module which could force opposing crew to forcibly work on your ship, they would be seen with handcuffs to show they are slaves.
50% speed penalty should be applied to press-ganged crew at all times if this is implemented, I would hope
I actually have a different suggestion for this, let you rescue defeated crew and, once you arrive at port, they "disembark" into the pool as Current Fame Level recruits but also give you % their recruitment cost in rescue fees. On Architect this could be 35%. Thus every three people you save, that's a recruit.
This means even if you're full up on crew, you are still recovering valuable people every time you save lives.
Rescued crew take up cargo hold space and will auto-disembark when within EVA range of a friendly station.
No imprisonment, no press-gang, no need to make it "space slavery". Simply just benevolence on your part.
Because honestly, the star trek vibes are already pretty strong, and what's pretty star trek? Offering mercy to others and discovering that it is its own reward.
My recommended numbers might be abit strong but I feel the vibe is the important part of this post.

once boarding is implemented put this along side it but using soldiers to collect the still living crew and put them in a temporary jail cell, and the prisoners can be handed into stations for money or fame or something else
thats what id do to keep fame balanced
not traded for fame, u can just farm low level ships over if u do that
if fame was involved id rather it be "recruitable people at fame level 0 requirement"
so it adds recruits to a possible low-fame ship

I like the idea of there being a random chance per rescued crew turned in that they'll give you either a little fame, a little money, or added to the purchasable crew at a discount (each with chance variation)
