There will be a way to do that in the upcoming update (version 5.0), you'll have to use armature bones and skin a mesh to them.
The time has come, hooray! Please direct me to the aramture bones (||if this is something that will allow you to bend the square||) guide, I tried to find it on the website, but it's not there.
There is no official guide, though the creator of Blockbench mentioned (maybe) making a video about it at some point.
The short of it is:
Use the generic model format
Add an armature
Add your mesh nested under it
Add a bone to the armature to have at least 2
Skin the vertices to different bones
Animate the bones to deform the mesh
👀
After the 4 point, I didn't understand anything lol
Ahhhh
Is this the only place where you can specify a bone?
You can paint with the Weight brush too. It's a new tool in Edit mode
If you want to know more about new features, read the changelog https://github.com/JannisX11/blockbench/releases/tag/v5.0.0
