You can add a mesh, and choose either cylinder or tube with 12 sides

because then I want to use it in modelbench, and the meshes don't work there

the shape generator only has a prest of shapes (more specifically octagons and hexadecagons)

but in your case you'd just divide 360 by the number of sides of your shape (so 36 in your case), make a cube without rotation, duplicate it and rotate it by the resul (36 in our case), use vertex snapping to allign it and then repeat those steps until you have all sides.

But now how can I set the pivot to 0 without the cube moving? Because when I want to move the pivot, the figure also moves.

make the shape first, then select them all and click that "center pivot" icon next to the pivot point positions.
That way each cube's pivot point will be in the center of that shape
