Block bench has a geckolib plugin, Mcreator has a geckolib plugin
so you can use geckolib models on mcreator

In that case, it's either user error, or an issue in the plugin.
I would recommend to use the plugins issue tracker (there doesn't seem to be another way to ask for help) https://github.com/NerdyPuzzle/MCreator-Nerdys_Geckolib_Plugin/issues
And report this bug/get help in resolving this.

It doesn't have to be. MCreator had tons of issues over the years.
I think for 2 years it couldn't import models cause there was a java comment at the top of the exported file, which is totally fine in normal java, but broke MCreator.
