#Transparent texture issue

Hello!
I am currently trying to make a CIT resourcepack for a friend, and they want to have "holograms". The one on the left works with transparency using a stained glass as the item. Is there any way to make it work for any item instead?

I checked through other forums and saw this from the bot, but it does not make sense for me.

Thank you in advance!

you cannot change a block's render layer to translucent without mods

#

you would need either Optifine or Continuity

#

so using stained glass is probably the best option

Ah okie! That makes a lot more sense now, thank you! Would a beacon count as transparent? Also, I'm using CITresewn as a substitute for optifine

wispy fjord
#

beacons are transparent yes

#

but not translucent

#

the part of the glass you see through is "missing" pixels or just nothingness

junior laurel
#

so this texture wouldn't work on a beacon?

wispy fjord
#

no sadly

#

also CITresewn only recreates one part of Optifine's functionality

#

you will need Continuity for changing block render layers

junior laurel
#

so it doesn't support transparency by itself?

wispy fjord
#

I don't believe CITresewn does

#

The reason for the other block render layers is that they are less intensive to render by the game

junior laurel
#

So if I understand correctly, if I get both CITresewn and Continuity, it can support transparency? or is that still modded only

wispy fjord
#

or less performance heavy

wispy fjord
#

you cannot make solid blocks use the translucent one even with mods

junior laurel
#

I think I'm getting it now

wispy fjord
#

oh I think there is another mod that can do the render layer thing too

#

one sec

#

Polytone

junior laurel
#

So mc doesn't like solid blocks having any transparency (or related). Some blocks like stained glass do have the option to be translucent. Things like beacons are transparent

#

and even with the mods, the beacon can't be changed?

wispy fjord
#

oh well actually
soild blocks can have cutout

#

in certain versions

wispy fjord
#

I made the beacon use translucency in my own pack

#

I do realize that this is somewhat confusing how I've said all this

#

maybe I can recap

junior laurel
#

Please do I'm so lost ;-;

wispy fjord
#

solid - stone, dirt, any full block really - can only be changed to cutout render layer using Ewan's core shader pack before a certain recent snapshot that broke it

cutout - flowers, stonecutter, beacon, glass - can be changed to translucent using Optifine or Continuity or Polytone

translucent - stained glass

junior laurel
#

OH okie

#

and CITresewn doesn't do that

wispy fjord
#

correct
at least to my knowledge

#

I doubt it does

junior laurel
#

I don't see anywhere where it doesn't

wispy fjord
#

wait
CITresewn is only for items

#

and the items have different translucency rules

#

all of them support cutout at least

#

and some like slime balls support translucency

junior laurel
#

They stay as items in item frames and the server we play has /hat, those count as items still right?

wispy fjord
#

yes

junior laurel
#

so CITresewn should still work but the translucency doesn't

wispy fjord
#

I think so yeah

#

you would still need to use stained glass items

junior laurel
#

and a beacon...?

wispy fjord
#

a beacon item does not support translucency without the same mods I mentioned for blocks

#

as far as I know

junior laurel
#

okie! I'll try with either Polytone or Continuity, thank you

wispy fjord
#

idk how Polytone works tbh, I've only gotten it to run other packs that needed it for the transparency

junior laurel
#

understood! Do you possibly have a block.properities file I can use as a template?

wispy fjord
#

I do one sec

#

just put spaces between each block

junior laurel
#

a little confused.
Is layer.cutout the line for the block I want to use? i.e beacon? or is that translucent

wispy fjord
#

a beacon is by default in cutout, so you should put it under translucent here to change it to translucent

junior laurel
#

okie! ty
