but in my hand it looks like this how do i make it where in my hand it looks like the texture it uses to make it look like the one on the right?

in the display mode i think you can change the size of it

like I only want it showing the model when I place it or use it as a hat

#

but when in hand or on the ground it shows the texture on the right

The game has no native support for that.
There is a (vanilla) shader that adds something like that based on texture transparency, but if anyone uses Optifine shaders that immediately breaks.

In your case you could do it like amethyst clusters do and just rotate the model in such a way that you basically only see the texture

well, block and item model can be different

#

but you aren't making a new block, you are faking one with an item of a block

rotate the "wrong" one 45° more in that display

okay I wil try!

#

so lets say I have a custom helmet instead of showing the model in hand I want to show this

#

but that is not possible correct?

# fiery fern but that is not possible correct?

assuming you have a custom model for the helmet, then yes, there is no way to have both the model and the icon be visible without roundabout workarounds that are prone to break on non-vanilla setups

plugins can't change anything about that either afaik

What are the display gui settings atm?

try rotating it another -45 degrees and see if that fixes it (with the different light options)
