General idea is that this robot has ripped out its core and is handing it to either someone or something. I could use some suggestions on which colors to use, and how I can add details with pixel art (currently it just has flat colors to mark material, almost to no detailing or shading yet)

For color palette, you can always look online for some metal gradients to help with that.
For detailing you could add more scrathes or wear and tear kind of texturing. This guy has been ripped to shreds so I doubt he'd look brand new out of the box. Maybe experiment with rust or dirt - this would depend a bit on what type of environment is around him. Is he in a grassy area? Maybe he is mossy like mossy cobblestone. Is he is a super modern environment? Maybe something like general dust and dirt. He was ripped to shreds, did any fluids come out - like his blood in robo form?
Hope this helps
ty! I have been trying out rust, you can see me starting a bit of it on the orange areas on the head. I'll will try to see if I can add any sort of fluid - never thought of that! 🍪
Ohh I see. It didn't read as rust because the whole element is orange and I thought it was related to the orange element on the chest. The colors are similar so I didn't notice. Maybe transition it a bit more and make it more rugged, not so clean to show it's not just a paintjob.
Like this:
or this:
Ah well I was going for rusted orange
so it is a paintjob
But I can also try adding rust to other elements
