Detailed Texturing?

I'm still relatively a beginner to texturing. I can do basic textures, but I'm trying to figure out how to do those really detailed textures. Like, the ones with the different shades of colors. Does anyone know how to do that? I'd like some help with it. It's for an addon me and a couple of other people are making.

This seems more of a creative challenge than a technical one, could you send a screenshot of the model you're trying to texture? I'd recommend searching for pixel art tutorials on hue shifting and understanding lighting
