I want to make an animated texture that creates an aura (like dragon Ball z) but everything I try ends up looking really weird so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong

If anyone can help I would really really appreciate it

Here is my attempt to just create an animated texture that shows the motion I'm going for, I've made it a bit smoother since by fixing the parts where the model for some reason moves down instead of up, but I don't have access to my pc for a bit so this is the latest attempt I can show (it's basically the same thing):

I found this other model someone made and I really want to be able to make something like this, but I don't feel like I'm getting anywhere closer to figuring out how:

Like you know in dragon Ball z the aura floats up, I'm trying to make an animated texture that does that

So far what I have is a frozen blue texture, and that yellow one which shows the direction I want it to move in

You are pretty close I would say - but the fade animations all start at the same time, which makes it look odd

You just delay the yellow line by a bit?

I made a very long line of textures where there's a bunch of blue Squares, and as you go down the squares the yellow lines are on top of each square but they move up one pixel every time

Look up what the word 'delay' means (I'm not saying that in a sarcastic way)

I do understand the definition don't worry, I just meant how would I make it slower because it's still just a line

Do I make the texture slower or make the yellow line smaller so it looks like it had a bigger distance

You have a few frames at the beginning that are just the same texture, and then start the yellow line later on

That would give it a fade out effect?

It would create a scattered animation which would look closer to your effect.

You're telling me to keep the exact same texture but make the yellow lines start later?

Yes. Just look at their animation and yours. Theirs is random, and yours is all at the same time. In order to make yours random, some of yours need to start later than others.

Theirs also seems to fade in and out

They textured the transparent parts with more of a gradient

Would that have the same effect as a fade in and out when the texture moves?

If the answer is yes would I make it like this? So it looks like it grows and shrink? Or just keep it all straight

Each frame would need to have more of a graduation. This is a lazy example, so don't just do it the way I did it, but see these two images

Just use the eraser tool, increase its size, and turn the Softness up
