#Mechanics & Learning Curves

R3's focus towards more mechanically based boss fights have definitely been a shift I really enjoy. Coming from a Destiny raiding background, PORTAL and MR (haven't done but heard stuff about it) has been a very interesting and, personally, healthy shift for the game.

I do have one problem with it though, and that's the problem with mechanics in the boss that isn't introduced throughout the strike. Previous content has faced this issue, but I don't think it's been very prominent because mechanically challenging bosses haven't really been apart of Monumenta other than world bosses.

The problem arises when mechanics are thrown at you all at once without introduction. PORTAL didn't face this issue too much because there is a 'prerequisite' for SoS1 and SoS2 but MR introduces completely new mechanics that you don't have the time to learn due to it being a) a timed strike and b) thrown at you only at the boss.

Trial and error becomes necessary to figure out these mechanics and it's very unenjoyable when each time an attempt is made to learn more, you need to pay 16 AR (the price differs based on whether you're hosting). Each strike ends up becoming disrespectful to player time and money (if you care).

Having the same mechanics in the boss throughout the strike but split up into smaller sections makes it easier for players to pick them up and incentivises playing the content. People will still play it as it is, but it's hostile to players who have never attempted it for the first time.

SKT doesn't face this issue solely because you can try the boss without any cost. You aren't limited by your wallet, just by time. If you're a Monumenta player, that's an infinite resource. I don't really have anything to suggest without it either overhauling the whole content or making it super obvious to players since I think handholding is not good, but an introduction of boss practice modes would definitely be desirable.

lmk if i m wrong

#

im basing everything off of anecdotal recounts

It took our party 7 mr runs then for mscr to come out of no where and explain the mechs

placid fog
#

If you don't want to figure it out yourself (money issues, time issues), wait till other people figures it out and then do it jebaited

#

figuring these mechs out are one of the most fun parts of new strikes to me

#

completely agree. i loved figuring out the silver construct fight and it being safe death was a big contributor to my enjoyment while mr is totally frustrating because it takes like ten or fifteen minutes (feels like forever) of slowly clearing hard poi for a good chance that that was all a waste of time because im still unfamiliar with the boss

I agree

crude kestrel
#

main point is that figuring out new mechanics is super fun but there needs to be better ways to introduce them than to throw them at you during the climax of the strike

placid fog

Also, with some common sense, the boss shouldn't be hard to figure out.

(e.g. don't stand in particles, kill mobs, etc)

I feel like the strike should maybe have minibosses that help people adapt to the gimmicks, but that's it.

crude kestrel
#

thats what im saying :(

#

mechanics isnt particles and mob killing, thats just a boss' attacks

#

mechanics is stuff like portal's companion cubes and bringing to middle or whatever thing happens in mr

crude kestrel
#

tower defence and constructing the spear?

#

is it that

placid fog
#

the npcs describe the kill mobs -> get shards -> hand in shard -> defend them -> stab boss pretty well

crude kestrel
#

oop

placid fog
#

I understand that some people really dislike reading

#

but it can't be blamed on the devs for that

crude kestrel
placid fog
#

also, if you clear the POI correctly, you have multiple attempts

#

to construct the dagger

#

just 400 seconds allows for about 2-3 errors

#

usually you can get up to 700 seconds

iron valley
#

1k

#

Yes but errors mean longer boss fight and higher chance of death

placid fog
#

I believe

#

that if you fail

#

the NPCs yell at you to "defend them"

#

while crafting the dagger

iron valley
#

N0cs only appear after boss spawns while u are crowded by multiple enmeys

#

Cant blame plauers too much for not reading

placid fog
#

bring more aoe classes

#

mag tess

#

common sense when you are getting swarmed by mobs

iron valley
#

Yeah i always ask what classes everyoen is at the start

#

Bu then they just end up dying in the poi portion

placid fog
#

then that isn't a mechanic issue

#

thats just gear issue

#

I don't believe that anyone is lower in "skill"

#

I believe that everyone is equal in skill, just maybe less experienced

iron valley
#

Captain what happens if they die 8n boss whole team is screwed

placid fog
#

and if you are less experienced, maybe get better gear (intended full set of rares for mr) before doing the strike

placid fog
flat nexus
#

isn't monumenta supposed to be a hard server?

placid fog
#

I've done it with me (assassin) and a guardian

crude kestrel
#

it's the need for a better way to get that experience that im concerned about

iron valley
#

So you can do it?

#

What about others

placid fog
#

I've done it, which means it's possible

#

you are not "screwed"

#

you might be at a major disadvantage

#

if you just give up, then you'll never become experienced jebaited

iron valley
#

?

placid fog
#

Now of course this is just my opinion
