Binary came out with nothing.

gritty pilot
#

binary is our hint ;_;

maiden bobcat
gritty pilot
#

i made a script to enumerate every possible valid alphabetical split, both 0-indexed for gwynn subst and 1-indexed for a1z26 subst, and none of them made sense. so we're pretty sure that isn't it
https://replit.com/@notready/cipher-splits#main.py
you can check my work if you want

@gritty pilot

gritty pilot

maiden bobcat
#

@gritty pilot I'm not getting far here is all.

#

@gritty pilot gonna try one more thing

#

@ornate eagle @gritty pilot try hexdecimal

gritty pilot
#

unless you're seeing anything interesting, i just tried it and don't see anything

maiden bobcat
#

I'm running different combos to see if anything changes.

radiant sonnet
#

image width 2755 and ppu 3779 produce 2 words

#

but they arent regular a1z26 or gwynn subst

maiden bobcat
#

I'm going to try ascii next.

maiden bobcat
#

Nope. Fuck me.

#

@gritty pilot any dice?

ornate eagle
#

already tried variations like that and no dice

maiden bobcat
#

FUCK! I feel dumb and useless now. :(

#

I even passed the thing onto one of my engineer friends.

gritty pilot
maiden bobcat
#

I've just been going between different decoding sights and I'm just lost. What if this is a code we have to input into a keypad in the update?

gritty pilot
#

long-ass code

maiden bobcat

I know, but it'd be more secure than a four digit.

Good point

ornate eagle
#

updated the doc for anyone confused. We're currently on Lead 2

maiden bobcat
#

So, I was onto something with binary.

#

I tried to convert from binary to hexadecimal and got nothing.

#

@ornate eagle @gritty pilot

#

Tried binary to letter and I'm starting to think some of these numbers need to be spaces out. Tried this.

16732 26615 41007 45600 00000 00000 00000 00000 00000 00000 00000 0000

Converted that to binary, then tried to turn into text.

Fuck this one has me.

ornate eagle
#

i dont think it's as hard as we're making it out to be, idk what we're doing wrong

maiden bobcat
#

Yeah, I'm actually totally unsure.

hasty adder
#

Oh hey the channel description changed

maiden bobcat
#

@ornate eagle @gritty pilot watch as we find out that the update's waiting for us to solve this before they release it lmao.

#

That would fucking suck lol.

ornate eagle
hasty adder
#

Also, we know that the Lost account's current name is A1z26 code for Home, though I'm unsure of what that has to do with anything

#

Maybe we missed something in the image

#

A guess could be that Culling the tumor and cutting away the rot means that we need to remove something for us to continue? If so, what?

ornate eagle
orchid pond
#

I think it's more what the Lost believe they have to do

ornate eagle
#

P1 was recruited by P2. "Cull the tumor..." was what they repeated back to the recruiter, practically confirming "I know what my orders are"

orchid pond
#

Can we assume that the stuff from that one Twitter post is part of the conversation?

#

Also...how many maps is the spider graffiti on? I know both Port Hoken and the crackhouse have it.

eager atlas
#

Do we know the numbers are supposed to mean somethin?

#

Haven't been zoned in lately

maiden bobcat
eager atlas
#

Hmmm, did you guys already talk about the possible connection between the warped and promotional image?

gritty pilot
#

yeah. the warped image is a flipped version of the promo image, with the heads edited to be spooky (people think it's tree branches, or fungal growth)

eager atlas
#

I mean, the symbolism behind it. Especially after the convo, I'm thinkin that the person dying was the "tumor"

hasty adder
#

Is it time to spam Guin again

#

Guin said that we should look beyond just letter ciphers, so it's probably not gonna be a substitution table. Wouldn't that mean we need a key phrase or word?

gritty pilot
hasty adder
#

So we need to tear that image apart then.

gritty pilot
#

things we've tried so far

maiden bobcat
gritty pilot
#

("stega" is short for "steganography", which is the common way to refer to hidden messages in files)

maiden bobcat
#

Oh, okay then. My bad.

gritty pilot
#

oh that wasn't a correction, that was just me clarifying my shorthand

maiden bobcat
#

I know I tried binary and got nowhere.

#

I tried hexadecimal to binary and got nowhere too.

patent dagger
#

and a bunch of other effects that basically rip it apart lol

maiden bobcat
#

I tried converting the numbers to binary to text.

#

Dead end.

eager atlas
#

Maybe flip the numbers and try putting them through a variety of cipher decoders?

maiden bobcat
#

I also attempted octal code to text.

eager atlas
#

Dunno. I feel like the image being flipped has some signifigance

maiden bobcat
#

Nada. Tried octal to binary to text. Nothing.

patent dagger
#

I will run the effects on the image again and post them here

also @patent dagger

#

with the non horror version of the image, are both of them police?

#

or could one dude be a MLO guy?

celest lotus
#

ya, I got it saved

eager atlas
#

I take it as the recruited guy "culling" the tumor. I'd suspect probably them killing an officer getting too close to something

celest lotus
#

do we have any screenshots of the MLO guys? I could compare the two

celest lotus
#

the flashlight is either hidden or not shown on the model

#

the other bits look like swat stuff

patent dagger
#

He's definitely SWAT

#

just with the old models

eager atlas
#

Do we have the original source of the non-warp image? Like, the SWAT version

#

Maybe if that one has numbers as well we can combine them in some way?

celest lotus
#

ya you rite @patent dagger

eager atlas
#

Actually, since I don't follow it much. Is the guy with the NVG supposed to be Judge?

eager atlas
#

I think I'm looking a bit too deep into the symbolism here. I do wonder what it's supposed to mean though with Judge represented so warpy

celest lotus
#

maybe he did something, I dunno

eager atlas
#

I started getting too into the flipped thing and read their conversation backwards, substituting a bit. As in they're in this situation, P1 dying, Judge holding them being P2. Doesn't make much sense.

#

Do we remember what website they used to send the audio files by the way? I feel like the numbers could be connected to another link or something

velvet cliff
#

Haven't kept up with this for a few days. It's not Carcosa anymore?

velvet cliff
#

Ah a second one, thank you

maiden bobcat
#

@ornate eagle honestly the only thing I can think of is asking for help

#

I'm out of all ideas.

eager atlas
#

Go for it

maiden bobcat
#

@fickle finch Help. We don't know where to start and we're lost.

#

We tried just about everything we could come up with and we have no leads at all outside of speculation. Also please don't ban me for asking for help.

eager atlas

Actually there's one thing I wanna try Thonk

#

Dang. Didn't work. I was hoping I was gonna be big brain and reverse image search it to see if there was a secret page or somethin

maiden bobcat
eager atlas
#

They did say it'd be one of the harder ones. I imagine it's about doing specific steps in a specific order

#

I was hoping I was onto somethin by using a number cipher and then copy pasting what we get into the file.io website, whatever looked like a link at least

#

Even tried it forwards n backwards

There are multiple steps to this cipher. It's not as simple as X to number or X to letter

maiden bobcat

sorry for the ping Guin.

@ionic storm they are solving an ARG which is essentially a puzzle made by the devs to discover lore that makes you utilize real world principles, history, and sometimes locations. ARG is Alternate Reality Game you can google more about them.

@ornate eagle been looking at the string you sent to Guin. Will tell you if I make any progress with it. Seems that string might somewhat be of value.

You guys probably already figured this out but this is totally the MLO (Mariposa Lily Organization)

#

First image sounds like it relates to them being veterans, second image says ā€œblossomingā€ and they’re named after a flower, and the bottom one sounds related to nationalism but maybe it’s the cult

#

I’m still new to this ARG so forgive me for any newbie mistakes

#

We oughta just organize some task forces to secure the maps and then search them up and down for evidence

hasty adder
#

Currently there is no in game clues for the ARG, according to guin

final whale

Ah damn

maiden bobcat

I feel like this is going to be a mix of Payday 2 and Hotline Miami shit where we have to figure out a code.

maiden bobcat
hoary gull
#

Could it be a qr code?

hasty adder
#

Apparently binary was a good step, since it isn't gonna to just be a simple substitution cipher. We probably have to translate the filename into something first?

#

And we still haven't found the goodies in the image just yet either

hoary gull
#

Changing the colors of the pics? Maybe inverting them?

#

Cause its strange how the letters are stacked

#

Like your mentioned

hoary gull
#

maybe when it comes to cutting out the rot, maybe cutting out numbers in the filename?

Anyone do any String Extraction for the image HOME sent? Gonna try and see if any of the strings mean anything.

hasty adder
#

Haven't heard if that

timber inlet
#

It basically just changes the picture into a bunch of strings, trying out a few ways of decrypting to see if the strings mean anything, could be nothing tho. Anything on the filename of it?

hasty adder
#

It's a long string of numbers. Guin says that it is a multi-step cipher, not just a simple substitution

#

Or at least hinted at it.

timber inlet
#

Yeah, from what I understand and from what Guin said, it seems that way

hasty adder
#

They said that someone was on the right path by trying to translate it to binary. Maybe it's encrypted with Xor?

patent dagger
timber inlet
#

Yeah, gonna move on to the filename, I did get something from Loaf Cat's string to Guin

#

Almost a "Cut" in the translation

#

with just some basic decryption and translation

#

Might be a dead end though. Gonna try taking a look at it further tho

P2: Our vow, our life, and yours, fading away. Each flame, melting, dripping, dying. We sing for them, we bleed for them, we mourn them. Unwanted, buried, forgotten, searching for home, to return.
P1: Melting. I want to forget. Hold me. Wait with me, for a while. Just for a minute. I'm not ready to go yet.

#

@ornate eagle

ornate eagle
#

maybe not there specifically. there's likely more dialogue to put together

maiden bobcat
#

Yeah it was either there or the last part is how I figured it.

gritty pilot
hasty adder
#

Nda?

#

If it is Xor, then we will need both a key and we need to translate the filename into something that br deciphered with xor

#

We have a bunch of options for keys at the very least

gritty pilot
#

yeah i tried xoring each byte with integers 0 through 99 inclusive

#

taking inspiration from the solution to another arg

maiden bobcat
hasty adder
#

Considering that Home hasn't been used in anything else, it's a possibility

#

we could try a1z26 on the numbers, then use a vigenere cipher?

maiden bobcat
hasty adder
#

That 100 inside of it messes that up though

gritty pilot
#

a1z26 requires splitting the numbers in order to translate. there are many possible ways to split the numbers into values 1-26 for valid a1z26 decryption. brute-forcing a vignere cipher on all of those possibilities is a large possibility space

maiden bobcat
#

Also should we flip it?

gritty pilot
#

also, if we're to assume this xor encryption is a one-time pad, the xor key must be at least as long as the ciphertext. "home" is not long enough, so we could try "homehomehomehome..." to fill up the extra space...

hasty adder
#

The repeating zeros kind of fuck me up. If they are part of the solution, then they mess up any type of binary encoding we can do

#

repeating home is a decent way for the vigenere cipher

#

Guin table should only be used for hints given by guin, right?

gritty pilot
hasty adder
#

xor also needs to be divided into 8ths, and there is no way to do that with all of the numbers given

#

Not to mention it'd have to be in a binary format

gritty pilot
#

ascii characters are stored as 1 byte (8 bits) per character, so if you use the ascii encoding for each of the digits, that is the binary representation

#

as in ascii, 0 is represented by 48 in decimal, which is 00110000

maiden bobcat
#

Or at least segments alone?

gritty pilot
#

we can try that as well, although the lengths don't match up perfectly

maiden bobcat
# gritty pilot

"You can be so much more if you cut away the rot."

What about that?

gritty pilot
#

48 characters long

maiden bobcat
#

How many characters is the string of numbers?

gritty pilot
#

59

maiden bobcat
#

Fuck.

gritty pilot

maiden bobcat
#

Have you tried running it through rot 13 or flipping it then doing that?

hasty adder
#

I mean the channel header is cutting away the rot. maybe that was the hint?

gritty pilot
#

agree, i think "cut away the rot" refers to rot13 or a variation

timber inlet
#

This is some crazy stuff, guys, I was trying stuff with ROT13 last night but never got this close hahaha

hasty adder
#

But at the same time, guin themself said that this wont be a simple substitution

gritty pilot

indeed. we just have to figure out how to get to the spot where we can apply rot13

so there was a component of the ARG that was supposed to be part of the supporters-only/alpha build. we tried doing it last night. but in the spirit of being an alpha, the in-game trigger for the ARG is bugged. because we had basically figured out how to trigger the ARG (after many, many hints from gwynn) and spent an hour and change standing around various spots in the altar waiting for a minute at a time to trigger it, gwynn threw us a bone. this was in the form of giving us the contents of "Encrypted messages 2 (19/01/2022)" described by loaf's doc

#

@hasty adder what do you think. am i off the deep end?

hasty adder
#

It never hurts to check, but I dunno anymore. It could just be a coincidence, but then again there are not many ways I can find to cipher numbers

#

We just have to try different combos until something sticks

wispy zealot
#

The fucc happened here?

hasty adder
#

Just remember to cut off those extra zeros for now. They don't seem to help with anything

#

With the zeros cut off we get 18 units. If we also get rid of the 2 remaining zeroes inside the number line we could get 16 units

#

But that probably isn't needed

gritty pilot
#

this is my current strategy

#

i think for sure that part of this cipher is "take a bunch of bytes from individual characters and remove the spaces between them in order to get Big Number"

#

simplest way to get big number, Occam's razor

hasty adder
#

16, 73, 22, 66, 15, 41, 00, 74, 56
167, 322, 661, 541, 007, 456
167322, 661541, 007456
167322661, 541007456
167, 32, 26, 61 54, 100, 74, 56

#

Trying different equal length combos

#

1673, 2266 1541, 0074, 5600

gritty pilot
#

i hope we shouldn't have to do that

hasty adder
#

I hope not either, but we've tried a ton of equations just publically, much less on our own

#

Have we tried turning the image into a different file type and try reading any hidden comments? Maybe jpeg?

hasty adder
#

It had hidden files, but were garbage?

gritty pilot
#

so, for context: the way a file identifies itself as a certain type is usually by putting some special bits at the beginning of the file, because these values have to be well-known and hard-coded, sometimes they're referred to as "magic numbers"

this is how you can tell something is a png even if you change the name to have a different file extension. programs will often rely on the file extension as a quick easy way to tell the format, but you've probably experienced opening a "txt" file in notepad that was actually just full of binary that looks like hot garbage. good programs will usually just throw an error and tell you to come back with a file that's actually formatted correctly

#

so knowing this, you could hide files of one format in the file of another format, but the magic numbers to identify the filetype will give it away. however, at the end of the day everything is 0's and 1's so it's very possible for magic numbers to show up all over your file even though there's nothing actually hidden there

#

therefore if you find a "hidden file" that looks like garbage and smells like garbage, that's probably because it's actually garbage

gritty pilot
hasty adder
#

Gross. And image manipulation is proving fruitless too

#

If we just had an idea of what "rot" we needed to cut, I'm sure we'd find it pretty quickly

#

The zeros seem to obvious though. Maybe it's something in the string of numbers that aren't zeroes

gritty pilot
#

given how tight lipped gwynn has been and the nature of her other hints for this clue, it seems like giving away any additional information would make the cipher trivial

hasty adder
#

So that must mean it's either simple and we are sailing over the answer constantly, or that the final piece of information is that important

gritty pilot
#

i think we're really close

  1. the number is a bunch of little numbers in a trench coat
  2. we must cut away the rot
hasty adder
#

We could cut on the guin cipher a and b?

#

Wouldn't that be 7 and 0

gritty pilot
#

i think the zeroes are the most obvious. but yeah maybe gwynn cipher is in there

#

i think the one of the latest clues we've gotten has helped me recalibrate on the difficulty

hasty adder
#

You mean for lead 6?

#

I doubt that we'd jump off the cliff of difficulty after doing a1z26 and affine ciphers for so long. It's a step up for sure but nothing drastic like we've been doing

I tried using a lot of random ciphers for grins but polybius seemed kinda promising but I think it's more likely that it's the nihilist cipher.

A two step cipher involving a string of numbers
It spells out a sentence
The first step is more than likely translating it to some sort of binary type format

placid crown
#

the nihilist cipher is two step

#

but wouldn't give a sentence and would only end up giving us a word or two

ornate eagle
#

we also have no words to input

hasty adder
#

The issue is that it uses a polybius square, which uses digits 1-5

placid crown
#

That is also a thing and I totally forgot what i did to get around that

#

but I'm relatively convinced it doesn't matter because I don't think it's the right cipher

gritty pilot
#

im thinking that maybe some information was destroyed in the process of outputting a single integer... spaces/delimiters that would give us the correct values for individual bytes

#

which is probably why cryptanalysis on this thing is so damn hard

placid crown
#

hey one thing that came to mind

#

it's a two step cipher
also the "You can be so much more if you cut away the rot"
makes me think that we should use a numeric cipher then translate those results using a rot cipher. Honestly probably rot13 would suffice unless we have a better idea

smoky island
#

Solved by Devildoc, myself and Loaf

hasty adder
#

Well here is what we have in terms of clues for the filename cipher.
-It is 2 step process
-It will spell out a sentence, most likely a key to something later
-It NEEDS to be solved, to make later clues possible/easier
-The number of zeros does not matter, but they may still be important.

  • The file name is NOT a date. That was an coincidence
-Someone tried Binary and was onto something. Unconfirmed if binary is an actual step needed.
-We must think beyond just letter ciphers. It isn't just an x to number or x to letter cipher.
-The cipher is simple, but not exactly easy.

the 167 cipher still has us confused 😦

hasty adder
#

I made a small list of clues given to us if you need it. Just search my username for it

hasty adder
#

We should ask the question, "What ciphers are beyond just letter substitutions"

#

It's difficult to know what to make of the numbers. Are they letters like in a1z26, or are they in hex/octal? The only notable similarity is that no number goes above 7

hasty adder
#

If I knew that it mattered then Octal would be key somehow

#

But I have a strong hunch on that considering it's 0-7

hasty adder
#

So converting Octal to Hexidecimal to ASCII got me "will yp"

#

will y if you remove the zeros at the end of the hex

#

Since double zeros in hex make a space, perhaps the remaining translation needs to be found elsewhere?

I took a little time to read through the google doc that was made to document everything so far, and I'm... perplexed, to say the least

Or at the very least, there's DEFINITELY something cult-ish going on

#

The more I look into this game, the more I find to it lol

icy oar
#

it’s based

blazing forge
#

What if it turns out that the agency we work at are actually the bad guys or something void

#

It would be so out of nowhere as well. Just imagine - the place we work at is just a cover for some government agency to do some under-the-table stuff, meanwhile we are tasked to stop the people who are actually the good guys in the long run or something. Obviously not the case, as there are very clear signs of human trafficking and abuse in a mission or two.

#

But imagine the potential.

#

As far as I'm aware, there will be a campaign for RON. What it will be about, or what out main objective or goal will be? Who knows but Void themselves?! But the possibility is always there. Since there isn't really a REASON why we do the stuff that we do (our general objectives in the game, for instance) except "Stop the bad guy", it really leaves room for interpretation and proper story elements to be at play in the coming months! I genuinely can't wait to see where Void is taking everything, because there really isn't ANY other game company that's doing the whole "Swat game" thing. On top of the fact that the "Swat" game genre is barely touched upon, Void could genuinely do something new for games as a whole.

hasty adder
#

There are a lot of signs pointing to the Vietnam War. Guin confirmed that it is significant to the groups involved, which makes sense with how militarized they are in the trailers

#

Current theory is that a bunch of disgruntled vets formed an anti-government group called MLO, which stands for Mariposa Lily Organization

#

The Lost could be a part of them, they could be some weird ass death cult

Genesis 1:5 speaks of God calling light "day" and darkness "night" and there was evening and morning, the first day. I'll attribute this to the number "1".

Genesis 5:5 states that Adam lived 930 years and then died. We can make this into "930".

So we have 1930 in some form. In A1Z26 we have AIC(undefined). Maybe we can take the zero to make 30 which could loop around to "D" to make "ACID". Was acid present in the arg plot at any time? I can't remember if it was acid, fire, or both.

All a big stretch but we should look at "1930"

Also, Luke Webley (TOC's VA) was (and probably still is) planned to voice Ramone. He once showed off a preview some time ago where Ramone rants about the nonwhites and feebly tries to make the swat team switch side to "hunt these fuckers down."

The MLO is more tolerant in a way as long as the recruit conforms to their values of a better America.
Somewhat like many real militia groups

(Taken from a VICE story on a Three Percenters cell)

Anyway, given the gameplay trailer's narrator referring to the MLO as "a rogue movement" rather than "a terrorist organization" likely means that they are out to enact vigilante justice due to the failure of the court systems

#

So, they're probably fighting the US government, the Neo-Nazis, the Russian mobsters, and the Club terrorists

has anyone else just stood still at the beginning of the hotel (barricaded suspects mode)
there's like this super deep and distorted voice that says things I can't make out. It's heckin creepy though

They're trying to get you to save 15% or more on car insurance

I'm super curious as to what it says fr

it stopped after a few minutes, trying to get it to happen again

I literally can't get it to do it again, maybe I was just hearing things or something idek

Try restarting Steam, your device, and if anything disable your anti-virus to see if that's the issue

no definitely not him, this was a totally different voice. It honestly kinda reminded me of the creepy voice thing from the end of PT

does someone have a summary of what all is in this chat? i get the premise but I wanna get caught up

weak kelp
#

Can you record it?

radiant sonnet

@gaunt tartan Check the pins

placid crown
#

I was trying to record it, but it stopped after about 3 minutes where it said like two to nine words every like 20-30 seconds

weak kelp
#

Ill investigate that tomorrow

placid crown
#

once I figured out it really was coming from the game that's when I tried to record it but then it just stopped and I couldn't get it to happen again. Just the normal ambient thumping

weak kelp
#

It could be a product of the situation if to was thumping

placid crown
#

thats very true too, thats why I said maybe I was hearing things?
could be big if it actually was something or I could've just heard stuff wrong I'm really not sure at this point šŸ˜…

weak kelp

So it wad just afk in varricaed suspects?

#

Or you can try it again

#

100% could be some chat of the one of the two gangs held up in there

placid crown
#

Yeah I just afked for like 5ish? minutes and alt tabbed while messaging a friend of mine on discord then suddenly started hearing the voice

#

yeah definitely could've been, I know it sounded heckin spooky but that could've just been how the sound travelled or something

weak kelp
#

I wonder where you start, maybe the big room you break into on the 2nd floor or roaming guys on the 2nd floor

placid crown
#

at the very very beginning, like I started the game then alt-tabbed. That's where I heard whatever it was

weak kelp
#

Wierd it would just be helpful to get a audio clip of it

#

We could possibly distort it back to somthing normal and get something
