unfortunately velocity is a lie ingame and everything is hitscan and it doesn't matter (but yes I understand that it may be accounted for in the penetration stats)

also 7.62x51 still is (generally) more effective at penetrating stuff because of the extra inertia/energy despite being lower velocity

against mild steel they can actually end up performing alot similar than expected using green tips with some variation depending on range

but ingame 7.62x51 penetration wipes 5.56 out of the water with no competition

also the smaller the object the less inertia/mass that needs to be stopped

but of course there's nuance in which the velocity, mass and diameter etc etc all contribute to what the theoretical penetration should be
