There was a brief period of time, VERY brief, where that was true. Modernly no, an AR is not going to be outlived out performed or overtaken by an AK.

Cause like 15 years ago you had Vietnam era military guys in documentaries saying they swear by the AK cause the captured ones they used for a mag or two did better than their M16s that they weren't taking care of because their field manuals said they didn't have to.
Like some douchecanoe said "it'd take me 4 weeks to teach a new guy how to take apart and take care of an AR-15, an AK-47 it'd take about 4 hours" I very, VERY distinctly remember hearing that and thinking "wow the AK must be so simple"
It field strips into about the same number of parts an AR does.
A well made reliable AK with a rail set up and modern furniture is gonna set you back 1200+ bucks fast just to be as reliable, customizable and capable as a 700 dollar AR.
The military community has this issue where you've got some guys who seriously know their shit and teach good tactics/recommend good platforms, and then you've got 19 y/o grunts who watch forgotten weapons once and think that plus a CIB means they're god's gift to shooting and they just end up profligating fudd lore
