I always hated the level elephant, because whenever I would play, they would start killing people as soon as I made my way towards the building, and it was stressful to have only cleared three rooms and then hear TOC say “we just lost a hostage” for the third time in the last minute. I guess it’s realistic, though.

To an extent you can kinda do this. For example you can on Twisted Nerve you can clear up to the point of the stairs and tell read to to clear upstairs hallway while you clear the rest of the bottom with blue team. They just hold that hallway for you, you can do the same if you clear the hallway and them tell them to clear across the bridge while you finish upstairs.

I try to avoid playing Relapse as much as possible

take lethal loadout (except for ends of the earth ig) and keep a taser on the side, its way more impactful to have that feeling of not getting into a firefight, getting into it for 2 seconds, and then being impacted by the aftermath and surviving to feel it. Rather than have a immersion-breaking rage over a bullshit 2 tapping AI when he doesn't go down with 5 well placed center mass beanbag shots.

Get the mod that allows you to still get S rank when you take down an enemy that is shooting at you, it still penalizes you over shooting an enemy that doesn't shoot you. But its literally morally and legally your right to take down a threat that is shooting at you.

Actually no, its just that the game doesn't justify non-lethal in current state. Think about it, you only take non-lethal for S rank. Instead the game should impact or influence to take it by showcasing the situation as mis-understood or something. And then you bring out the lethal force when shit goes south. But there is no option to go to your van and switch non-lethal to lethal. So best case is bring lethal loadout, you still have a lot of non-lethal options like Stingers, Flashbangs, CS Gas, Tasers etc.

About that, when you are clearing room with them in fall in mode, just immidetly switch to search the room, they will split and start securing / shooting.

Also, change your default command from fall in to Hold.

this is just my personal opinion, but VOID should really push for more lethal options. Not in "woah exciting firefight way". I mean in a "you have lethal force at your disposal, but also non-lethal options. The whole build-up of not using lethal, to having a 2 second quick reaction, to then seeing the aftermath". This is what this game should be, you use non-lethal as long as the need for lethal arises, but that depends on the judgement of the player, not some arbitrary rating checkbox system.

Its way more sensible to neutralize a suspect that is actively shooting you, than to keep showering him with pepperballs. Alternative to lethal force? Flashes, Stingers, CS Gas, Tasers etc
