It still needs to be a game though. If everyone surrenders, there isn't much "meat" to the gameplay (yet). So surrendering would need to have it's own "stand off" gameplay mechanics to make it interesting somehow.
Suspects could engage in dialogue. I mean, that would be super-feature++ extension (costly, feature creep ftw) but I think it would be awesome.

Anything that prolongs the tension. I really think that is the one KEY aspect that sets SWAT games apart from other shooters. The moment where you interact with the enemy but shouldn't shoot yet.

yes, and for it to not become boring, it needs a high varience of different situations, suspect animations, voice lines and especially random timings.
Right now I can tell when exactly the suspect will move from "heistating" to "shooting" and also when they will get up after surrendering to strike again.
It's very rigid.
a self hostage situation would be nice, they can have different outcomes such as them faking shooting them selves to try shoot you, surrender or just actually shoot themselves

I see your point, especially on AI behavior on room clearing and the uncertainty of the outcome of the grenade throws. As for the throwing they could add a scripted sequence for when the direction the AI would toss the grenade based on their current position wouldn't make any sense. Like, think of a door that can only be stacked on the left due to obstacles and the door swings open to the left. The grenade would in all scenarios be tossed to the right, which could be okay depending on the room layout. However, there is this this apartment entry on Brisa Cove, the first door to the right, where we exactly have the aforementioned situation and the right side of the room (where the grenade will land 100% of the time) is a dead end while the left side which is partially obscured by the door is a long hallway.
Long story short, SwatAi would need to understand those kind of "useless" grenade throws and adapt to a different throwing stly, e.g. taking a step out of the stack and tossing the grenade are the door, or even above it, whichever lets them stay in cover better
This game with a PVP mode, and focusing on Close Quarter Combat map, could very well be a straight competitor to R6 Siege

While I agree on the issue, my solution would be to not "simulate all and everything". It's a videogame. Getting simulation in line with gameplay expectation is a nightmare. Sure, you can pull it off, but it's really really lots of work and iteration.
So my solution to these problems is more like: Abstract it. Design trumps simulation.
In the case of bangs, we already have the disconnect of "animation of throwing" to "actual spawn point of grenade and trajectory".
I would just go one step further and define the impact area for every room manually. And the throw is just graphics. Just immersion. The actual gameplay effect for "bang & clear" would be defined at level creation. for each door manually, by the level designer

I have been working on Squad and there it is such a rabbit hole between Realism and making a Game. Either they wanted to make a simulator and calling it a game. Always been a fan of keeping the aspect of game first. That is where the emotions and players want to experience.
This is probably the easiest and most effective solution for 99% of thresholds. And they can always leave in the free-throw as well for you to have AI whip nades at certain spots when not stacked up

As for the uncertainty what entry tools or grenades to use I'm actually happy that the player is able to 100% make this choice.
In real life you would decide what entry method to use based on the type and the layout of the entry point, the layout of the room behind the door, the resulting "moving in" technique and of course the expected threats inside (amount of suspects, sVest probability, structural hazard), civies/hostage presence.
And similar criteria apply to the use of the offensive grenades.
So in the end it's analyzing the situation and deciding on what you feel most applicable to use in the given context.
At least I don't feel like having the developer force me to use gas on this room or a stinger on that room, that's not how it should work in my opinion.
Whereas for the doors, they could maybe add certain doors to the game that e.g. cannot be lockpicked, or give doors a certain chance to withstand a battering ram once or twice, this could mix things up but would also force players to carry all potential gear at all times which could be an issue especially in understaffed online lobbies

Apart from that I feel like the "simulation" part of Ron also stems from the fact that players mostly have everything in their own hands, the game only dictates the desired outcome and puts you in a certain place, the rest is up to you and your skills to use the tools you have at hand to achieve the best possible outcome, just like in real life.
(even though I wouldn't really call Ron a simulation after all š

To prevent you from being penalized for shooting at them during gunfights where they instantly give up
not taking this personally. Been in the game (no pun intended) for 20 years. Seen different approach. While I truly appreciate how they did their game and what a core portion of designers wants to keep the game as is, or even go more hardcore, I feel like, RoN does a better job at nailing its core gameplay principles for a FPS.
Well, in multiplayer, maybe, yeah. In single player you basically get a "random" outcome when you send your AI mates in.

Even if they don't mean the crashy type, like they said accuracy calculations were changed. Let's say a mod makes them less accurate prior to this, it may just break them and make them not shoot.
Or if a mod made them harder, it may make them beam you as soon as you spawn
I assume the crashy type anyway because AI mods have always broken and started breaking the AI and or crashing the game in the past

Laptop user here with a beefy laptop. I was getting 45-60 fps on most maps. I turned dlss onto balanced and I'm getting 100+ now. I run it in 2560 X 1440. I don't wanna speak too soon but it has fixed all of my fps issues
With this being fixed we should finally see head injuries again

Cant be the only one thinking this is a feature not a bug⦠sure good to have swat ai not killing but elite force added the ability for less lethals to kill in edge cases. A beenbag round to the head can definitely kill lol.
I have tried both and dx12 runs better but not good thanks for the help though
The issue is that you will just NEVER give the SWAT the beanbag if they'll randomly kill with it
This is a good change, because players have agency over their own aim, but not the bots
You can still kill them with a beanbag headshot, I guess this just makes it so swat ai will aim for centet mass exclusively with beanbag shotties

They don't aim for headshots, but because of the random aim cone, or just because suspects are performing certain animations, they can unintentionally hit headshots

Head protection depends entirely which headgear piece you select in the loadout menu. Not the cosmetics tab.

If you select "no helmet" in the loadout tab, you will not be able to equip a helmet in the cosmetics tab (I think)

Huh? Well the reason some see it as a scam is the fact it released in 1.0 like it did and jacked the price up. Even I think the 1.0 release was handled poorly

Still reading the notes and it says enchantments though walls shouldnāt last as long but nothing about wall snipping yet. Issue was is that line of sight was involved in 90% of issues due to door cracks or small seems in walls
There is no face hitbox. Having the bare helmet vs having the gask mask will both protect your entire 'head'

Funny enough I tested this last night. Players 100% had bullet reduction through objects/limbs/etc (and a LOT of it)
I suspect that the calculations were broken/unimplemented for AI though, so no damage reduction. (until this patch)
Yes there is 'range' where you lose damage, but everything is hitscan so your shots do not fall or travel like in battlefield for say.

AP and JHP ammunition had the same penetration values for all of EA until 1.0
There was no damage reduction on penetrating hits until 1.0
i think its supposed to square the damage even if you have the helmet
I mean i understand they want them to able to shoot through walls in some instances. But they donāt seem to understand that the ai is firing through walls even when it is impossible for them to know where you are.

In irl no its sole purpose in swat units is to prevent over penetration
Headshots were broken (at least since) the Adam update, where the damage was squared INSTEAD of multiplied by the appropriate headshot multipliers (2x or 3x depending on ammo type)
The new change means that assuming you have enough health, you can survive low-damage head hits.
Before, even a 13 damage head hit would kill you from full HP (for reference the lowest damage hit in the game is suspect buckshot at 25dmg)

its the logistics of things and feature references. You never would want to mistake FMJ from AP

every game has, its the amount of spaghetti they made is the difference between a fixable game to an absolute hot mess

so i just checked the url you posted and it looks like it's using wine to run games, on protondb ready or not is rated gold (runs well) so you should be fine
however you're on mac
and i'm not sure how well wine works for macos compared to linux

every so often when watching youtube runs (recent) ⦠some people free lean under beds and actually open and check closets. Not once has any suspect or civilian been there. Is this a past feature that got removed and they just do it from habit? or can they actually hide in those places?
theres still a chance tasers dont actually contact, they may hit a piece of clothing for example (dk if this is a feature or a bug)
Some maps just never have hiding suspects in these areas

I will give swat 4 as an example, the taser can be deflected by body armour and you can clearly see the prongs bounce off

I always thought the visual feedback of the taser was OK, it's more the auditory feedback that's inconsistent. A lot of suspects just convulse silently.

I'm honestly fine if you struggle to get true suspect surrenders through the presence of a lone officer, like I like the unpredictability but if they're too passive that could be strange in some of the scenarios.
i have some mods and its all working besides not being able to change guns, will try and remove the gunfighter mod for this, but even with the bug ballistics are all working, no crashing too
It makes sense that you need to do something to ramp up the pressure, like nades, LTL usage, loud breaches, or getting multiple officers flooding into the room quickly.

So far I have 3 main issues with the game. Sus Heads clipping through walls and doors, bullet penetration, and not being able to stop their screams once downed with a headshot.

I can maybe see how a system like that should work, suspects are less likely to fight for their lives if you've arrested more than you killed, but suspects in general are super trigger happy to start with
Their trigger-happiness at the start varies a lot. Even before the hotfixes, if you tried just waltzing around some of the missions by yourself with just taser and only normally open/lockpick doors you'd be surprised how many suspects will hold their guns at the waist in hesitation.
Iām having issues selecting weapons. I canāt change weapons at the table or the lockers (I currently have the SA58 and G19) I click on any weapon and it just doesnāt switch :/

Good question. Intuitively, a pepperball launcher is a lot quieter than a proper firearm so I'd expect that'd to be reflected in the stress system but IDK.
I don't think LTLs do, because they don't seem to alert AI in the same way that guns do.

Yea that's the same for me. I'm running Medium textures and everything else low. The textures and lighting takes a while to load; around 10-15 seconds ish. Lag spikes only happen for me on missions tho.
