📔 Some knowledge before the guide begins: What are mods in Ready or Not?
- Mods are "modifications" of the base game (vanilla), in our case: READY OR NOT.
- They either change pre-existing files/conditions developed by VOID Interactive or add custom made content created by the community.
- The most common file format of mods for Ready or Not are ".pak" files. They are archives that can include graphics, textures, objects, or other game files.

"Where can I download mods for Ready or Not?"

There are three ways to get your hands on custom created content (Mods) for Ready or Not:
MOD.IO IN GAME:
In the main menu you will notice a button for "Mods". Once opened and logged in, you can pick and download mods for the game via the Mod.io menu.
There is also a search function, if you are looking for something specific.
Press the "subscribe" button and the download will start automatically.
There is no speed limit to downloads.
💡 It is required to restart the game, when subscribing to mods from Mod.io, to load the modded files into the game afterwards!
MOD.IO IN THE BROWSER:
You can go to https://mod.io/g/readyornot and scroll through the catalogue of mods.
There is a search function and you can select specific tags for mods.
Press the "subscribe" button and the mod will automatically download the next time you open the game.
Alternatively, you can choose to do a manual download and install the mod yourself.
💡 It is required to restart the game, when subscribing to mods from Mod.io, to load the modded files into the game afterwards!
NEXUS MODS:
Nexus Mods is a online database for any sort of modding in video games, spanning over 1.500 games.
The most important aspect is however: They run a built-in virus check on every upload.
Users can also preview downloads on the site to check for suspicious files.
You can find the Ready or Not branch of Nexus Mods right here: https://www.nexusmods.com/readyornot
There is a download speed limit for non-premium users (choose slow download).

"What do I need to add mods to Ready or Not?"

Mod.io IN GAME system:
When you download via the automated (subscription) system that is integrated into Ready or Not, you don't need any additional tools.
Mods will download and place themselves in the correct location and will be loaded up automatically when you start the game.
Mod.io MANUAL download:
If you download mods manually from Mod.io, you will get them as a .zip file.
To open .zip files, you need a file archiver utility such as:
📦 7-Zip: https://www.7-zip.org/
📦 WinRar: http://www.win-rar.com/
📦 PeaZip: https://peazip.github.io/
📦 If the .zip was created with the inbuilt Windows tool, it can be extracted with Windows as well.
Nexus Mods:
If you download mods from Nexus Mods, you will get them either as a .zip or .rar file.
To open these files, you need a file archiver utility such as:
📦 7-Zip: https://www.7-zip.org/
📦 WinRar: http://www.win-rar.com/
📦 PeaZip: https://peazip.github.io/
📦 If the .zip was created with the inbuilt Windows tool, it can be extracted with Windows as well.

"Where do I have to put the mods after the download?"

After you have downloaded a mod and opened the archive file (.zip or .rar), you will have to look for one or more PAK file(s) (.pak) inside.
These .pak files are the mod. Do not just copy the archive file (.zip/.rar) you just downloaded, as it will have no effect in the game!
To add the mod to Ready or Not:
1️⃣ Go to this directory:
[Wherever you have installed Steam on your drive]\Steam\steamapps\common\Ready Or Not\ReadyOrNot\Content\Paks
or
You can also right click on the game in steam, manage, browse local files and then go to \ReadyOrNot\Content\Paks
2️⃣ Drag and drop the .pak mod-file into that directory.
Important note:
-# ⚠️ Always, ALWAYS! Check for mod requirements! Maybe your mod needs another mod to work in the first place. Check the descriptions!
Important note²:
-# ⚠️ Some mods may be replacers that purely replace content already in the game. Some mods may be additions that add additional content. Check the description of the mod to see which is which.
Important note³:
-# ⚠️ When installing mods to Ready or Not, make sure you don't add mods that aim to edit the same purpose, such as two different models for the same weapon.
Important note⁴:
-# ⚠️ Only install up to date mods. Old mods will not work, may cause issues, or may prevent the game from starting.

"What types of mods are currently supported for Ready or Not?"

Here is a list of aspects that can or cannot be modded in Ready or Not:
Uniforms/Outfits/Armor
Weapons
Attachments
Gear
Custom maps/levels
Custom AI configurations
Music replacements (only manually!)
Voice overs (only manually!)
Reshade (only manually!)
Movie/splash replacement (only manually!)
Partial custom Blueprint/scripting functionality (read mod descriptions carefully!)
Existing game menus
Replacements for original Ready or Not Maps
Major changes/overhauls to core game mechanics
Why are some mods not supported in the automated Mod.io system?
The automated system with Mod.io in combination with the Unreal Engine can only read .pak files.
As music replacements and sound replacements in general are other formats (such as .bank/.ogg), it cannot be loaded automatically. The same applies for files for Reshade mods (as .dll and others).
They have to be placed in the correct folder manually.
So do not download them via the Mod.io menu, rather get them on the Mod.io or Nexus Mods website and follow the steps the mod creator provided in the description.

"How can I play co-op with mods installed?"

Co-operative gaming with a modded Ready or Not is possible, but needs to be set up beforehand.
All participating players that want to play co-op with each other need to do these steps:
1️⃣┃Open the game options and stay in the "Game" tab.
2️⃣┃Scroll down to the bottom where you see the "Multiplayer" section.
3️⃣┃Players wishing to join a modded lobby must enable "Join Modded Servers" while players hosting must enable "Allow Modded Players." The "Allow Modded Players" option may not be able to or may not update in real time after the lobby is made, so the host may have to return to the menu and set it there before making the lobby again.
⚠️ Note that as per #console-faq, console players can neither join modded lobbies, nor have modded players join them. This cannot be bypassed.

"How do custom maps work in Ready or Not?"

A freshly downloaded custom map requires several steps, before it should be played in co-op mode:
1️⃣┃All players joining the session need to have the custom map downloaded.
2️⃣┃If downloaded via mod.io subscription: after the download, restart the game once as stated above.
3️⃣┃Run the custom map at least once in singleplayer, so the system can generate "world data" for AI navigation (can take several minutes!). Alternatively, the author may provide a file to skip this step.
4️⃣┃Make sure all players have settings configured for modded play, as per above.
To load a modded / custom created map, you head to the map selection table in the briefing room as usual.
Custom maps can be picked via the "Modded Levels" tab (next to the DLC maps tab) in the top left of the screen:

-# ⚠️ AGAIN: First time loading of a map (without the provided file) can take several minutes (1-30). This is necessary due to generating AI navigation for teammates, hostiles and civilians. The time required depends on the size and complexity of the map itself, as well as some influence from your hardware.

"How do I remove mods from Ready or Not?"

Depending on what source this covers, its either marked with
(Mod.io) or
(Nexus Mods).
Here are a few steps, to make sure to remove all mods and regain the "unmodded" state of Ready or Not:
Unsubscribe from subscribed mod entries on Mod.io:
1️⃣┃Before starting to delete any files manually, make sure to unsubscribe from mod entries. This prevents mods from getting downloaded again. It can be done in the in game menu or on the Mod.io website, on the mod page(s) or your list of subscribed mods.
2️⃣┃Clear the User Data within the game:
Open the option menu of Ready or Not and stay in the "Game" tab. Scroll down and click on this button:

This is what will happen, after you clicked the button:
"Signs out from Mod.io and attempts to remove mod content and user data from the local disk"
Content that has been downloaded from Mod.io will automatically be removed from your hard drive and you will have to login again.
The mod.io folder remains in the Paks folder, but your account data and downloaded mods (.pak files) should be gone.

3️⃣┃If the two previous steps have not worked, use the CrashReporter tool:
Go to this directory: [Wherever you have installed Steam on your drive]\Steam\steamapps\common\Ready Or Not\Engine\Binaries\Win64
There you will find this tool:

Open the tool as Admin (Right click -> Run as Admin) and this window will pop up:

Click on "Delete Mod Data". You will be asked twice if you want to proceed with this: Click on "Yes" also twice. This will have the stated effect and will remove the mod files.
Removing manual install mods from Nexus:
You will basically undo the process of installing mods manually by now removing them the same way.
1️⃣┃Go to this directory: [Wherever you have installed Steam on your drive]\Steam\steamapps\common\Ready Or Not\ReadyOrNot\Content\Paks
2️⃣┃Remove the mod (.pak file) you added there, so it will no longer be loaded into the game. See below for information about mod pak files #❓modding-faq message.
Important note:
-# ⚠️ DO NOT TOUCH ANY FILE THAT HAS "pakchunk#-Windows.pak" IN ITS NAME! These are the game files!
-# ⚠️ Using the launch option to clean mods may also delete your game save, so you will be reset completely with your unlocks and progression. We reccomend only doing this as a last resort, and only after making a manual backup of your save located at C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\ReadyOrNot\Saved\SaveGames

"How do I make mods?"

If you have questions or would like to discuss mod making, check out the Ready or Mod server! Although not affiliated with the developers, it is the definitive place for modding for RoN.

Delete the files found in the Mod.io folder, use the address below for reference.
Remember, You will NOT delete any of the pakchunk#-Windows.pak.
[Wherever you have installed Steam on your drive]\Steam\steamapps\common\Ready Or Not\ReadyOrNot\Content\Paks\mod.io\3791\mods

Folders with numbers contain the mods, feel free to delete those to delete the mods manually.

"I subscribed to a mod on Mod.io and it is not appearing in game."

Mod.io subscriptions may not work for some people.
To get mods to be able to work for you if you have the issue, do manual downloads from Mod.io in your web browser, or use mods from Nexus.
💡 Alternatively, if you already finished the subscription download, you can manually move the .pak files out of C:\Users\Public\mod.io\3791\mods and into the usual Paks folder like you would with a manual mod installation.

"Is this mod recent enough to still work? / Is this mod updated?"

🛠️ Due to the DLC4 update, (mostly) only updated mods can be used.
Mods first uploaded or most recently updated on or after March 12th, 2026 are very likely compatible with the current version of the game.
This applies to all .pak file mods, both Mod.io and Nexus mods, downloaded manually or through subscription/Vortex.

"When I attempt to launch the game, I receive a box saying: Serialization error: action needed - Corrupt data found, please verify your installation."
or
"When I try to launch the game, it closes itself."

🛠 This is most often caused by having outdated mods.
Delete ALL your mods:
1️⃣┃Right click the game on Steam, click "manage," then "browse local files."
2️⃣┃Navigate to ReadyorNot > Content > Paks
3️⃣┃There are 50 core files named "pakchunk#-Windows.pak/.sig" with numbers 0-24; do not delete or modify these!
4️⃣┃Delete anything (including the mod.io folder) that is not one of the above 50 core game files.
5️⃣┃Verify the integrity of the game files through Steam
After doing these steps the error should no longer occur, and you can mod the game again if you choose to. However, only use updated (March 12th, 2026 and after) mods.
