I've been on and off Maplestory since 2004. This is the 5th time I've come back and not only am I so lost, but I want to finally be done with the game, aka, defeat the Black Mage who's been haunting me for 20 years. I'm a level 200 Aran.

so basically you'll participate in events via the star icon

then you basically are gonna follow some story pieces so you can get from area to area.

Be warned, beating the story version of black mage can be anticlimactic. Beating the actual black mage fight will take a lot more work, but the winter event should help for that.

My source is that 6 months ago I came back to play maple looking for closure, and I’m still here.

Hey Jason. This hit hard. I totally can relate. I have been a on and off player for the longest time but I am determined to get to end game and fight some hard bosses. It's a really good time to get back into the game. My first goal is to at least get to 250 with the class I am currently playing. Wishing you the best possible experience for the game.

Maple Guide has a rough estimate of the boss order (with a few exceptions, like Gollux difficulties)

(Hellux for instance is roughly same tier as Chaos Pap)

(Hardlux I'd say close to CRA/HMag?)

as far as some stuff to focus on:

  • do Commerci dailies! they really help with some gear needs particularly if boss drop RNG isn't kind to you - in fact, they can even be better depending on the gear (monocle and tattoo are the top two, iirc)
#
  • consult class Discords for just about anything - stats to focus, what characters to level next, etc.
#
  • and of course, make a Len and some other characters on Challenger World 2 when it drops on November - you'll have a relatively loaded out 260 character that can do bosses fairly easily.
#
  • events are your best friend, ALWAYS - they give free stuff, free skills, free everything.

Progress Report: After 3 weeks of playing. Lv 225 Aran
Bosses: Daily, only equipment and coins are useful. Can't fight 30 levels under me, can't figure out Princess No, IDK boss reward points
Character: Discovered hyper stats, can't equip pocket item, IDK enhancements, googled V Matrix set up, should probably stop wearing the EXP pendant, events leveled me up 23 times, discovered macro and sequence skills, IDK familiars, got my first pet somehow (puffram)
Quests: Unlocked all Bosses, attempted to do all the lightbulb icon quests, Arcane river daily and weekly but out of money (350), discovered Maple Tour and Mu Lung dojo's Hero's gloves (IDK how to get it), IDK about legions, professions seem useless
All of this while equipped with the limited maxed out challenger set.

Get Cra (hat,armor,pant) + absol/arcane (glove, shoulder,shoes,cape)

Pno, map 2 will be easy clear if you have 2 diff job class type (eg. Mage + warrior) or get a pinkbean soul to cheese the mob

Pocket open when your charm become lv 30 (get trait booster from event shop)

Charm is 11, equipping boss helment, gold octpus and Cologne helps.

Also the mob problem might be due to low arcane force

Try do the arcane river dailies for more force. There's also arcane river weeklies. Make you you clear the sub quest of the arcane area for extra reward on dailies.

Try to enhance the lower lvs ones

It will still boost your force but cheaper as compare to upgrade the lv6

If your legion and links are low

#

The cw kinda will get you a free ish lv260 character of your choice

And a few more stuff

Its a tempt server that last for 6month, I believe

That server will have no link and legion but you can get a lot reward from attend the event

#

Character should be able to transfer back to you server, when it is closing

it's recommended you have a good soul wep ready

preferably something like Crimson Queen

or any other Root Abyss boss

#

they're all daily and easy to do

#

pre-revamp has a guide for the boss

and yeah, I'd recommend doing Chaos Root Abyss before even thinking of tackling her

gives a great set

#

for unlocking pocket, use trait boost pots to level charm to 30 first (always do this before other traits)

#

and then for good pocket gear, Hilla drops a stone, but Pink Bean also drops a cup

#

Pink Bean's is better

#

for hyper stats I'd primarily invest in stuff you need most (crit rate not counting from buffs like 5th job Sharp Eyes, IED, etc.)

and check class infographics for hyper skills you should pick

#

Pendant of the Spirit helps when mobbing/using wealth acquisition pots whenever you get them

but take it off everywhere else def

for enhancements, I assume you mean like potential/starforce?

for star force aim for 17* for now if you can

don't risk booming stuff just yet

and potential, aim for at least Epic ones

you'll get way more potential-giving scrolls from future events n stuff

it's all about being patient with this game

it's a long, long grind to even be eligible for XKaling (the current hardest boss in the game) parties

for familiars, that's also quite a grind

#

don't worry too much about it yet - it's lategame-biased

#

but if you roll the right lines on your fams, it gives plenty of free stats

#

that and in the next update, you can send them to fetch stuff for you

#

and for getting pets, do HHilla/Ninja Castle

#

or spend points from bosses in the cash shop for a chameleon

so if you find yourself stuck/out of things to do on a character, make another one!

just mind that your mules/alts don't have to follow the same progression path as your main

#

so for instance, Afterlands questline is skippable since you can just join a mule-friendly guild and buy guild totems

#

other annoying questlines can also be skipped (like Threads of Fate, which TBF is only ever useful on main after you level 10 alchemy and other professions)

#

and thinking professions are useless is a common mistake

#

they're super useful because accessory crafting and some other things in particular craft some still-used equips like the Meister Ring

#

and alchemy makes Wealth Acquisition Potions, which increases mesos gained from mobbing

#

as well as other assorted buff potions

#

Smithing also makes some best in slot gear for some classes as a substitute for the Princess No secondary + cubes

like the Deimos shield for mages

Dang! All that just to beat the black mage? I still have my mechanic and cygnus pirate from 15 years ago, although they never made it to level 100.

There’s a YouTube channel named Duky, he does guides all the time aimed at new players. He did a challenge earlier and he solod CRA in under 3 hours from making a fresh account with 0 legion or links. It’s possible, just use event buffs and keep at your dailies and weeklies that you can finish and your progress will be very linear, only end game is plateaued but that’s end game end game.

Progress report: level 243 and I found out what experience nodes do. Massive gains from that.
Just discovered extraction and fusion from professions.
Trying to unlock the third familiar slot. Already have five badges.
Discovered familiars within legions. No idea how but I upgraded for support.

Progress report: LV 251. I'm efficiently gaining XP at an accelerated rate, 1.5 level per week.
Maxed out my orbs, now there's no need to do the weekly quests or daily bosses (for money). Daily quests still give a lot of XP.

Progress report: LV 258 thanks to hyperburner and growth potion. Tomorrow I'm going to try and finish it.
Managed to acquire dust essence somehow, but I need to be a master to craft mineral and herb bags, screw it.
I kept changing my familiars to fit the occasion, didn't know I had to summon them.

Level 261. DONE! Defeated the Black Mage. Don't care for anything else. 6th job advancement seems to long and disappointing. After 20 years, I've finally finished.
