i feel like something these fail on is when people have a question that can be answered with 1 person saying 1 sentence
it will push things down and then the already answered question will just exist for however long

Now this is more like what I expected when they were trialling "forums" for discord and potentially an acceptable substitute for Threads.

forums are just channels in which the only top-level object is a thread
they should have an auto-archive duration just like threads in regular text channels
hmm i guess that's not actually implied by the first part
perhaps they don't auto archive in the same way
i just know from the discord API docs that
A GUILD_FORUM channel is very similar (from an API perspective) to a GUILD_TEXT channel, except only threads can be created in that channel; messages cannot be sent directly in that channel.

I honestly like the concept and I think it could work really well for this type of channel. Only time can tell how well it actually works

something I'm already noticing is that unread notifications only happen for new threads unless you opt-in follow or post in them, so it's going to be extra important for first messages and thread titles to convey important info because that's probably the only look most people will get at it unless they go out of their way to follow up
