Those are better at digging for water Maines and other underground equipment

Gold diggers are too soft (gold is a soft metal afterall)

Yes you can, but each time you do so, your game will reset due to "Content change detected" - you'll be asked where you wish to quick travel, and any jobs you have at the moment will be cancelled without fines.
