your CB will usually break if you change channels after you rejoin a server from disconnecting from the server, this will cause the little display on the CB to go blank

however, you can freely change channels by pressing , and . or < and > from which is the same key, however do not attempt to change channels with these keys when you just reconnected to a server after disconnecting from that server.

so in theory, your CB never broke, you were on a different channel
