Ordered two SSDs - one for each PC, Floppy cables, molex to berg adapter, a new LGA 775 CoolerMaster CPU cooler, a DIN to PS/2 adapter. So yeah, first gonna wait until that shows up.

Gonna keep the HP since it fits so nice with my old Business book, aswell as it is faster/has better specs than the Acer eMachines.

Two LGA 775 boards out of the two machines

Left one idk the brand of with a Pentium Dual Core 3.06GHz and 1GB of RAM and the right one is an ASUS with a Pentium Dual Core 3GHz and 1GB RAM aswell.

Definetely gonna keep the left one, it has way more ports and slots for IDE devices.

Already installed the Floppy drive, it looks so nice now, so much things installed 😄

Front panel will be cleaned and maybe painted so it looks like new again.

Well, I wanted to replace the CMOS battery of the eMachines. Did that, after that the PC won't turn on again.

Used two power supplys to check if maybe the power supply was faulty, but it wasn't since even with a working power supply the PC doesn't turn on. Now I'm kinda clueless what to do, I don't think a whole board dies because of a CMOS battery swap, well if somebody knows what I could try to do feel free to ping me

The CMOS battery powers the CMOS chip, which stores the settings while also running the real time clock when the computer is turned off. If the power is cut to the CMOS chip, all of its contents will get cleared after a while. You can find tutorials on manually setting drives for such computer in case if the CMOS battery gets replaced at any point.

Well, I fixed up the eMachines.

Cable fault, now it does power up again

So yeah, gonna get the exact same RAM as 4GB kit and use that in the HP, since the 3GB kit from the eMachines worked in the HP. Apparently though the 1GB kit from the HP didn't work in the eMachines, but as far as that I'm pretty happy now.

Morning/Afternoon/Evening all.
I have a weird issue I hope someone here can help me fix.
My PC (inbox for specs) has been randomly losing display, at any random time I could be sat watching something then it'll go black and say "no display" on my TV. The PC will not fire back up after BIOS screen until I have restored it to a restore point. There is nothing that I can find anywhere with anyone else who's had this issue. It's really starting to get irritating so any help would be smashing.

Grab a flash drive, burn something like Ubuntu LiveUSB on it, boot from it and try to use it for couple of hours. Then we will know if it is a hardware or software failure.

I feel if it was a hardware issue it would happen at some sort of interval or when similar things are happening but it just so randomised. All voltages seem to be fine from what I can see.

If you want to install custom rom, it makes your system more unsecure due to unlocking bootloader thing. So I suggest doing this only if you really know what youre doing and you know what risks there are.

Well, I somehow have a big problem with my eRecovery discs of the eMachines. Beforehand the recovery partition had bad sectors in it, I managed to fix that damage and restored the data of the original HDD. Then it successfully burned 3 eMachines recovery discs, so I thought I can use those to make an entirely new installation on my SSD. Problem is now, as I wanna install it in the setup, it won't boot afterwards.

It just says "autochk program not found, skipping autocheck". After that I get a bluescreen and the system restarts. Upon further inspection I saw that the recovery setup didn't create the right partitions, it only created one big one marked as "recovery partition" instead of "PQService", "eMachines" and "System Reserved"

I don't know if it might be the problem that the SSD has a smaller capacity than the original hard drive, I upgraded from the OEM WD 450GB HDD to a Kingston 240GB SSD.
