Can anyone help me? I wanna get a new gaming laptop or desktop. The budget I have is $1000 for computer and $200 for a monitor or two. Any suggestions?

Is building a computer something you can do?

gaming laptop are a waste of money for the price

If you need portability, they aren't.

Battery life won't be very good though.

If anyone needs a portable gaming computer, then you have plenty of money to invest in almost 2 very decent desktops

agile ermine

it won't be as fast, but it is still faster than an SSD

spiral yew
#

I know it will be faster than a HDD

#

But not sure if I really want to transfer 1TB of game data to a different drive

agile ermine
#

no, that won't work

#

that kind of drive uses flash memory to store the files the pc often needs access to, in order to accelerate the softwares

#

but its not a very big amount of memory, so it will work exactly like a standard hdd in the case of a big file transfer

hidden shell
#

Buy multiple smaller SSD drives and create multiple Steam libraries!!

#

I have 3 SSD's, 1 nvme for Windows and a large 5TB external drive for backups

So I split my games to multiple, affordable, smaller SSD drives.

@gilded stone idk i paind my screen protector 40euros and someone applied it on my phone and idk is it just for me or someone else too but if you uy protector on samsung galaxy s8 it will break in your pocket or glue wont stick on screen...

i think on simglepalyer on ultra will be 100fps and mp will be on low est 70fps?

Thats not bad

Also Comparing the 960 to a 1050, really the 960 has better statistics, but the 1050 gets a few more frames on certain games

#

So yeah your partially right..

#

If its the ti, then theyre both evenly matched but if its not then the 960 blows it away lol

yeah the 960 is better

Make sure there are not any cables that block the fan of the VGA. At next, download MSI Afterburner, and there you will be able to download RivaTuner in the Afterburner setup wizard. If you downloaded them, open MSI Afterburner, go to settings -> monitoring -> click on GPU temperature -> and tick "Show in On-Screen Display, then OK it.
Now open RivaTuner. Turn on Show On-Screen Display, On-Screen Display support. And you ate done, now it will monitor you the GPU temperature in real time, when you play.
Please, if you answer, let me know that what GPU do you have, is your problem solved, and finally ping me. If it doesn't help, I will try to show you an another method. @halcyon rune

sterile crypt

Is 3440x1440 worth it? Or should I stick to 2560x1080?

sand valley
#

when you got already 2560 than next step should be 4k

#

so nothing under 3840 width

sterile crypt
#

But 4k would probably be a bit too much for me to drive. I have a gtx 1660ti laptop

#

It is a replacement for my main monitor

#

And I believe you read it wrong, currently I have 2560x1080 not 2560x1440

agile ermine
#

A 1660ti will have difficulties running big games with a 3440x1440 monitor

#

I would recommend getting at least an rtx 2060 super to run that kind of screen with comfortable framerate and a high level of details

#

But 2560x1080 will be fine with a 1660 ti

sterile crypt

I assume you are talking about ultra settings right?

I don't mind having to lower the settings a bit to get playable framerates

halcyon rune

agile ermine
#

Depends of the games... if you run only games like ets2, then a 3440x1440 screen will be perfectly fine, but it you want to play some AAA games it won't be the best idea

#

Im running a 2560x1440 screen paired with a 1070 ti, and it still struggles to reach 60fps with ultra settings in games like deus ex... with a 1660 ti and a wider screen, that won't make above 40fps, which is still playable but not very comfortable

sterile crypt
#

I do play AAA games from time to time, but most of the time I play either ets2 or rocket league

#

The most demanding game I have right now would probably me AC: Odyssey (in which I don’t even have an hour of time spent after having it for half a year)

agile ermine
#

Uh

#

AC odyssey is...

#

An ubisoft game, lets put it like that

#

But if you don't play it, then running a 3440x1440 screen wont be a problem

#

But its a lot more expensive, so think twice before getting one

agile ermine

Don't get a g-sync monitor unless you're willing to spend over 800€ for a monitor

It’s cool to see that it’s all built on the same kernel

#

Deep inside they’re all the same thing

#

Windows NT iirc

chilly imp
#

aye I believe so πŸ‘€

sinful monolith

which has improved over time though

ouchhh

chilly imp
#

whoaaa

#

I just found out that you can do a screenshot of a specific region with win+shift+s

sinful monolith
#

@wide temple I remember getting similar artifacting when I pushed my GPU memory clocks too far... tried turning those down?

wide temple
#

I only have a +50 memory OC, but I've reset everything to the stock values. Hopefully that will help in the meantime as I guess the silicon has degraded enough that it can't OC as high anymore

sinful monolith
#

I had it with any memory OC at all

#

I could go well above the normal core clock but any memory OC and it pooped

eager fossil
#

man I got a 60 Hz Monitor... I want a better one but i dont know which is good for gaming and cheap

#

In Rust im getting like 80 FPS but I just can play with 60 FPS 😐

sterile crypt
#

Do you regularly play games where you get like 144 fps?

pastel lodge
#

i honestly dont now why people lock their fps to their monitor hz

wide temple
#

To reduce screen tearing

sterile crypt
#

Example, I can hit 80 fps in a game while I have a 60Hz monitor. I get screen tearing all over the place. If I then enable VSync the game looks much smoother at locked 60 then at unlocked

pastel lodge
#

i have no problem with that surprisingly

sterile crypt
#

On the other hand, rocket league at 250fps looks smooth as hell even though I have a 60Hz monitor

#

It really depends on the game

wide temple
#

Basically you want to get as close as possible to the refresh rate of your monitor in terms of FPS, but that's almost impossible without Vsync which adds input lag, which is where adaptive sync comes into play :)

#

I also find that some games are horrible for screen tearing where as others are not, but I don't notice it so much with Gsync :p

pastel lodge
#

xd

eager fossil
#

Cassie i dont know

brittle mountain
#

@wide temple your VRAM is shot

#

what card is it?

wide temple
#

EVGA 1070 FTW

brittle mountain
#

try a +400 Mhz OC on the vram, see if it still has artifacts

willow aspen
#

@brittle mountain I had to send my card back because of the artifatcs confused

brittle mountain
#

GDDR5 is extremely unstable

#

mine hates +200 OC, but absolutely loves +500 OC

willow aspen
#

I hate it that it is impossible to play with multiple monitors connected when they don't have the same resolution in ETS2...confused

#

@oak quartz ohhh, cool monitorπŸ‘Œ πŸ‘Œ

brittle mountain
#

27" is a bit too much for 1080p

willow aspen
#

Depends on preferences haha

brittle mountain
#

i can count the pixels on my 24" 1080p panel from 1 meter away

willow aspen
#

You have good eyes lol πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚

sand valley
brittle mountain
#

you can call bs, but i do video rendering, i'm used to noticing very small details

#

+0.75 prescription actually

willow aspen
#

@brittle mountain Ohhh, cool, soo, 3D stuff or "actual footage" (I mean recored with a camera)

brittle mountain
#

3D architecture

willow aspen
#

Yeyyyy, awesome loveit loveit loveit

brittle mountain
#

i use 3 screens, for convenience

willow aspen
#

@brittle mountain hehe, what renderdo you use?? loveit

#

@brittle mountain mee too, lol, 3x 2.7k

#

Render**

brittle mountain
#

Blender, Maya, Cinema 4D

#

depends what the project needs

willow aspen
#

Cinema 4D all day long, yeet loveit loveit and Octane for me everytimeπŸ˜‰

brittle mountain
#

3900X for days πŸ˜„

#

C4D loves it so much

willow aspen
#

HahahaπŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚

#

@brittle mountain it sucks recently.... as my projects get complexer, my 32GB Ram doesn't do it anymore...

brittle mountain
#

and before you ask why not TR4/X299, i also game

willow aspen
#

@brittle mountain I had to send my 2080ti back just after 3 months in use confused confused

brittle mountain
#

because it's RTX

#

"it just works"

willow aspen
#

πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚

brittle mountain
#

my 1080ti is still going strong

willow aspen
#

It was something with the memory I guess, at least what I thought, something was getting too hotπŸ€”

#

@brittle mountain I only bought it because of Octane πŸ‘Œ troll

#

And it was my first PC, I only had a laptop

brittle mountain
willow aspen
#

With a GTX 930m or something πŸ€”

brittle mountain
#

welcome to custom air cooling, there's a 1080ti somewhere behind those fans

willow aspen
#

@brittle mountain Yeah, I thought of it, to take it apart and watercool it, but I'm not sure, because as you know, the warrenty expires then confused confused

brittle mountain
#

if a card runs for 6 months, it will run until it burns itself

willow aspen
#

So you would go for it then? πŸ€” πŸ‘€

brittle mountain
#

if rather strap bigger fans to it than watercool

#

air cooling will always be more reliable than water cooling

willow aspen
#

Will look into that! πŸ˜‰ πŸ‘€ thanks man ❀

brittle mountain
spiral yew
#

i have a 3 fan 1080ti

willow aspen
#

@brittle mountain Ohh, cool, will definitely try it out. haha πŸ‘Œ loveit

spiral yew
#

my case has 2 fan mounts in front of the gpu

willow aspen
#

@spiral yew Mine also, but wasn't enough apperently πŸ€”

brittle mountain
#

stock fans on video cards have poor static pressure

spiral yew
#

i heard the 2080ti's were plagued with memory issues

brittle mountain
#

no 90/100mm video card fan will ever outperform a good 120mm fan

willow aspen
#

@spiral yew Because when I render, the card runs 100% for several hours, about 20 for a small videohaha

spiral yew
#

sounds like you need a cold room lol

willow aspen
#

@spiral yew Yeap, that's what I think happend with mine confused

#

@spiral yew hahaha, no heating in winter πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚

brittle mountain
#

i can sit in shorts in my house in the winter πŸ˜‚

#

air water cooled PCs make the best heaters

willow aspen
#

And a CPU that runs 5.2Ghz all day long uff πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚

brittle mountain
#

i almost fried my 3900X trying to run AVX at 4.5Ghz all core

willow aspen
#

Yeah, some false voltage adjustnents and it's done πŸ€” confused

brittle mountain
#

1.4875V was a bit too much

#

it went from 50 C to 103 C almost instantly

willow aspen
#

I would have to look it up, because as I said, never touched the settings again, because I am hapoy with ittroll πŸ‘Œ

#

Mine sits at around 84 C when doing 100% computations

brittle mountain
#

i get around 90 C on the CPU and 65 on the GPU

willow aspen
#

Wooww, 90 C πŸ€” πŸ˜‰

#

GPU always like 65 alsoo πŸ€”

brittle mountain
#

keep in mind, it's 12 overlocked cores at full load on air

willow aspen
#

Truee, hmm... I didn't take the 12 cores in account πŸ€” I have it watercooledπŸ€”

#

I only have 6πŸ€”

brittle mountain
#

sounds like an intel

#

8700K?

willow aspen
#

Yeyy, i7 8700k

brittle mountain
#

nailed it πŸ˜„

willow aspen
#

Wooww dudeloveit loveit

#

Looollloveit πŸ‘Œ

brittle mountain
#

i needed more production "power" so i went high core AMD

willow aspen
#

Woooow, this is cool when someone knows so much about all these productsloveit I know mine, but that's itconfused

brittle mountain
#

i've been through 10k euros worth on parts in the last 3 years

willow aspen
#

Woooowwww, shiet confused confused

brittle mountain
#

and constantly stay up to date with tech news

willow aspen
#

I built my PC with around 3k

brittle mountain
#

my current rig is around 4k

willow aspen
#

@brittle mountain that's rad loveit I only follow news of 3D things and stuffπŸ‘€

#

@brittle mountain how much Ram would you suggest for 3D, I need to upgradeconfused

brittle mountain
#

LTT, TechQuickie, JayzTwoCents, Gamers' Nexus, BitWit etc

#

i'm only running 32 gigs since it's enough for me

spiral yew
#

get 128GB troll

brittle mountain
#

depending on your workflow, you can bump it up to 64 or even 128

willow aspen
#

I thinking about 64, because I struggle with 32

brittle mountain
#

not sure if the 8700K can handle 128 gigs tho

willow aspen
#

@brittle mountain my Mainboard can only hold 64 though confused

brittle mountain
#

then go 64

willow aspen
#

I would need to upgrade everything fore higher than 64GB πŸ€”

brittle mountain

are you on 2x16 now or 4x8?
