Well, if you can play ATS/ETS2 sensibly with a wheel and not get bored doing the speed limits, and you always park using the skilled parking setting, it's actually not that much different as far as the actual concept goes. Hours of service are almost the same, but there's a lot you don't experience in ATS. Like having to deal with shitty shippers who make you sit for hours and hours.

I was wondering, from a first hand perspective, is trucking something that I should get involved with?

If you've never been in a truck and have no, or not much, experience in it i wouldn't recommend it. You basically have to be born into the job. I don't know many people whose dad or some family member wasn't a trucker.

And the people who do the job here with no experience in it, often leave after 3 months

I agree with Beni, it’s definitely not for everyone and being ‘born’ into it helps a lot but you will never know if you don’t try it. Sound stupid but try playing ETS2 with a steering wheel and pedals for 9h straight (obviously it’s not the same as trucking irl but it will give you some prospective of siting in one place for 9h and ‘driving’) and if you don’t get bored then try go for it

sometimes ill maybe drive 3 hours out of a 12 hour day

all depends on what part of the industry youre in
