I’m pretty happy with this so far, only issue is the side deflector won’t open up and the ride height doesn’t work properly

Either it doesn’t work or idk how to make it work haha, either way this’ll be my first experience in a DAF tractor unit even though our 18t fleet is all DAF

I have to say, I’m now experienced enough to know you can’t/shouldn’t drive each truck the same as the other

I drove the DAF as if I was driving the Renault and it was very sketchy so o had to adapt a little

It takes much more effort to slow this thing down I’ll tell you that much

Did drive different trucks in the past, had a ovlov for almost 4 years drove different than the DAF doesz but i'm happy i don't drive that volvo anymore

We had Volvo FH540, Volvo FH16 650 and Volvo FH16 750 before, basically all of them got replaced by Scania R730 and R650 as Volvo never managed to keep the promised fuel consumption and no matter the engine option the Scania trucks was always cheaper when it came to fuel consumed

So now on that route we have one FH16 650 which is about to be replaced by a new FH540

Don't know about mainland europe but in the UK at least the driver shortage is a myth. There may be plenty of jobs but the reality is the pay is mediocre and the conditions can be shite so there's a shortage of drivers willing to put up with it rather than a shortage of licensed truckers

So I’m proper chuffed with my driving today so far. Started off by attaching my cab to this trailer in the corner of our yard with this Mini parked in the way, ended up hooking the kingpin over the 5th wheel because of the angle I was turning (image is zoomed out to 0.7x hence why the gap looks bigger than what it was) so I had to raise the suspension up to max, drop the trailer legs all the way then lower the suspension to drive out and unhook, manually lower the legs without a unit under it (thankfully it was empty) then hook up and drive out once the DAF was also moved so I could get a big enough swing

Then I had to reverse from a main road at a 90 degree angle up this little shoot, reversing between the parked cars and round an S bend. Where the wheelie bin is and the blue golf I had less than a foot either side.

I appreciate for the more experienced truckers this may seem like nothing, but for me with only a year on the road I feel quite proud of these narrow achievements today

my planner was like ooh watch out your almost at 1300kg already and then will be overweight

i think i was at max maybe 1100

but apparently my van according to the license check can only load 816kg and im over that almost every single day 💀

Well, nothing special about that, for my first boss i also drove vans, sprinter with a max pay load of 1200 kg, had a regular run for a metal working company, loaded up 2 pallets of 1250 kg of metal tubes, brought them to germany where they where machined, then loaded them back up, brought them to another machine shop who heat threated them, and than brought them back to the pickup where they where used in machine building, did that trip 2 or 3 times a week, when i needed to cross the border, i always had to take the backroads since i was always 100+% overloaded
