You know, EA spent $1.2 billion on Codemasters and...will have done....nothing with them. Other than changing WRC 23's name to EA Sports WRC, and some added liveries, there...everything that Codemasters has released under EA started development before EA.
So...they just wasted that money entirely. It's like when John Cena bought a Ford GT and then sold it a month later, but with less lawsuits.

Hmm...with Codemasters taking their break, GT7 and FM8 being...mediocre at best, and the plethora of subscription Sims...I feel like...the racing sim genre is sort of dead. The Arcade Racer is alive, although...not in AAA form anymore, since...really only NFS does that and...who knows when the next one of those will be.

This is fair. But, honestly, the FOMO of Motorfest, FH5, and other is still worse. At least you can still get the money to buy the legend cars for when they do come up.
Where as, in the others...they've sort of made earning money pretty pointless after you've gotten all the cars you can physically buy because the "Special Cars" are bought either with other currency, or earned through other means. OR, in FH5's case you still need for fork out 20 million credits for, only that takes about a billion hours and not..an afternoon like in GT7.
But...yeah, ultimately, EAS Sports WRC did the right thing and pretty much completely rip out the FOMO and Seasonal progression thing, and just made it a sort of RPG level bar.
And in the final DLC, the only thing added to the end of it was stickers.

So...with the death of Codemasters, it signals EA isn't interested in making racing games, and thus, the AAA racing scene is pretty much dead. Personally, I sort of think that is true with the release states of Forza Motorsport and GT7 which...didn't really have a super set focus, and tried to a weird blend of always online Live Service game, and single player title...to varying success. (GT7 being the more successful because...it has slightly more direction than FM8.)

Okay, from the GTPlanet post in January, they had estimated GT7 sold 14.4 million copies, which was second place to GT3. But that does make GT7 the highest grossing game in the series. So...GT7 is the only AAA racing title...other than FH5 to make a descent amount of money.

hmm...it seems the predictable has happened and the FH5 servers are currently offline and, have apparently been offline for PS5 users for a bit now. Considering how well every other major change has gone, this is par for the course, really.
The problem with it is...if you're saying for months that you have a "major update" you'd think that you'd be working on making sure that works. But...I don't think there are many devs currently working on FH5, because...they're clearly not preparing for anything, and only scramble when inevitably, things break afterward. So...no internal testing, just "put the connections in place, and it'll be fine. We can fix things afterward."
I would say that this implies that everyone's making FH6, but...I'd also say this doesn't bode well for the launch of FH6. Especially if MS, in the middle of development has gone "Oh yeah, make a PS5 version, too, and btw, we're not giving you extra time." because...they've done that before, I might just avoid FH6 for a while.

Hmm...So...Forza updated and I went "I better make sure my settings having randomly reset because that happens every time it updates. So, I did, and found out they hadn't changed....yet. So, now I just started a race and immediately got the "Your VRAM is over taxed becaue we're stupid and reset your graphics settings because we want you to play in 4K regardless of weather your computer can actually run that" message. WHICH MEANS:

Either the settings button on the splash screen is pointless and it will just load whatever settings it deems fit when you click through, OR

It changes the settings when you load into a race, thus you don't get the VRAM message on the menu, because the settings have been set yet.
Either way...this is an incredibly stupid way of doing saved settings. Because then...WTF even have a settings option on the splash screen.
ALSO, changing the settings on the splash screen brings up a "we have to restart the game for these settings to take affect" but doing so IN A RACE, doesn't give that warning. So, I suspect the splash screen one is just a lie. OR, clicking on that is what resets the stupid settings to Ultra 4K.

Doing an endurance race on the new Fujimi track in FM, I have discovered that, for whatever reason, the pitlane is locked to 30fps. The car pulls in, it switches to the normal cut scene which is now locked at 30fps for about 30 seconds. No idea why. I think it's the only pitlane that does this, and for short period where 1/3 of is in on what amounts to a black screen, and for a game that is so insistant on making you play at 4K/60fps...this seems extremely weird. But it IS Forza.
My guess is that it IS a rendered cutscene, and thus uses a lot of resources, but...it's the second longest track...but maybe the roadside detail is so high...it's weird.
