I'm probably having this problem after the December 17 update, but I only noticed it recently. Please tell me what I need to do to fix it. I've checked the integrity of the game files, reinstalled the game, logged in and out of my account, and enabled VPN, but nothing has worked.

This message means the game is unable to connect to the backend services (AGS API). Since you’ve already verified files and reinstalled, please try the following and check if the issue is resolved after each step:

• Fully restart Steam and the game
Close Steam completely, reopen it, and launch the game

• Restart your PC
After restarting, launch the game and check if the error still appears

• Restart your internet connection
Unplug your router/modem for 2–3 minutes
Plug it back in, wait for connection, then launch the game

• Disable VPN if you are using one
VPNs can sometimes interfere with the game’s backend connection
Disable it restart the game, and test again

• Check your firewall and antivirus
Make sure Holdfast: Nations At War and Steam are allowed through your firewall

If the issue continues after these steps please let us know .

Hello @odd stratus

Thank you for providing us with all the troubleshooting steps you've already taken, including the screenshot. I understand how frustrating it can be when you've tried so much and the issue persists.

The "Unable to connect to AGS API" message definitely points to a persistent network communication problem with our game's backend services.

Since you've covered the common network and game integrity checks, it's time to try a deeper network reset within Windows itself. This often helps when the operating system's network services get into a stubborn state.

Please try the following steps:

  1. Reset Winsock Catalog:
  • Type cmd into your Windows search bar.
  • Right-click on "Command Prompt" and select "Run as administrator".
  • In the Command Prompt window, type the following command exactly as it appears and press Enter:
    netsh winsock reset
  • You should see a message confirming that the Winsock catalog has been reset and that you need to restart your computer.
  1. Flush DNS Cache:
  • While still in the Administrator Command Prompt, type the following command and press Enter:
    ipconfig /flushdns
  1. Restart Your PC:
  • After executing the commands, please restart your computer fully.
  1. Test the Game:
  • Launch Holdfast: Nations At War through Steam and check if the "Unable to connect to AGS API" error message still appears.

Let us know if these steps help resolve the issue.

If the problem unfortunately continues, please let us know if you have any other network-related software running (like specialized VPN clients, network optimizers, or advanced antivirus suites with network protection) that might be interfering.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to get you back into the game fully!
