#What timeframe does the Arkham games take place in?
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
In Arkham City there is a plaque that states it was built in 19XX.
Deacon Blackfire had a crime report from the 1920s.
I figured I’d ask because it has ramifications for the entire Arkham series
Personally, I don’t believe that it takes place in the 90s backwards, but that very well could’ve been the original plan Rocksteady had..
They’d probably rather keep it vague
It takes place after Origin.
Please read the post🙏
You answered a different question
The question is "What timeframe does the Arkham games take place in?"
And they told you what 2 games it falls between. They even said About how many years after AO. So if the other games give dates, you’re set. If not 🤷♂️
The other guys right, you answered a question I didn’t ask
But thank you for giving me an answer
Its like asking Water is wet lol
It doesn’t really help with the answer though
2014
It takes place 2 years after AO. Wasn’t AO 2012?
It takes place the year after Arkham origins
Who said it was 2013?
2013… no one. But it was said it was July 2014 somewhere.
Some sources say +7 months after AO.
The game is set in July of year three
In the cinematic trailer for Arkham Origins, it takes place in December 2013, and since origins is at the end of year two, it’s about 6 months after origins
I thought the cinematic wasn’t Canon since Batman only knew Deathstoke on December 24th and knew he had bounty on him the same day as well?
I guess
Takes place in July. So 7 months seems right.
They said 6 months
Ultimately I don’t think it really matters what year it’s set
It’s a nowhere time like BTAS
don't shit on the guy for trying to make conversation
there's no accepted answer which is why he made a thread
The phrase “dissociative identity disorder” pushes us into the mid 90s.
So the plaque must’ve been retconned, and Deacon Blackfire must just be a immortal
And it’s likely that the Arkham verse takes place in the roughly present day
He is, or at least supposedly, his immortality was a big part of his story in the comics
As to when everything takes place, the Arkham Wiki has a pretty good timeline
As to which years specifically, there's many mentions of specific years
- Arkham City plaque starting in 19**
- Arkham Knight bottle pills with 2015
- Arkham Origins trailer with 2013 calendar
- Arkham Shadow with Ratcatcher's birthday in 1988
But these all contradict each other, as mentioned above, I believe the specific years are always meant to be kept vague
Ratcatcher is in his 40s in Arkham Shadow I think?
That'd make Shadow take place in 2028 lol, I'm pretty sure the 1988 date is because that's the year of his first appearance in the comics
Meaning, it's just an easter egg and not really meant to make a whole timeline out of it
it honestly doesn't matter what year anything takes place in, as long as the internal logic works, then it's fine
Suicide squad takes place in 2021-2023 around that time because toyman talks about how he and Ivy are gen z and the suicide squad is gen x and toyman is a young adult
Given that suicide squad takes place five years after Arkham night, that can’t be.
Ivy would have to have been born in 2010 or earlier to be gen Z
She would be Gen Alpha.
Common misconception.
I just threw up in a my mouth a little
I'd rather shoot myself than hear dialogue like that
In arkham shadow you can view Ratcatchers birthday.
Then you just add 40 to 50 ontop of that
The VA is Khary Payton and hes 52 years old
So it may suggest that the whole Arkham Verse is in the future
Do mind that 1988 is also the first appearance date of ratchatcher
Idk. This would conflict with the whole timeline until now
I’m not talking about ivy im referring to Deadshot, and Harley who are gen x according to toyman and toyman is gen z
Don’t fight it, let it happen
Update: Batman Arkham Knight has pill bottles expiring in 2015, which is the only date that is actually presented in an Arkham game other than the Arkham city plaque.
Which means that origins initiation would take place in approximately 2002
shadow would take place in 2006
And Arkham Knight in 2015
That’s actually a timeline I could get behind
Of course, that would mean we would have to ignore the rat catchers birthdate
But I’m OK with that
That would mean Arkham Knight takes place in 2014.
Usually pills have an expiration date of 1 to 5 years.
https://www.drugs.com/article/drug-expiration-dates.html
So let's take a year.
Knight in 2014.
Then Arkham Origins would take place in 2004
Yeah so if they have been bought in 2014 they will expire in 2015
Sure
Sooo I think 2014 is a nice estimate. Also because knight was probably peak development around that time.
How much time did shadow take place after origins?
I thought 3 months or smth
Or was it three years
A little more than 6 months
Ahh so then the timeline would be.
Origins - 25/12/2004
Shadow - 4/7 to 10/7 2005
Asylum (18 months after asylum, city opens) - 2012
City (Jokers cremation) - xx/1/2014
Knight (Halloween) - 31/10/2014
Im guessing Asylum opens around 2007?
The asylum opens in September 2005
I also totally disagree with your timeline
Wait, no i don’t
Yeah but the events are probably way later
Fair point
And knight establishes that it has been 9 months since Jokers cremation.
And city tells us that the opening was 18 months after asylum. Probably it was also open for a while before Batman stepped in
And also Arkham Shadow begins on 4 of July and the game ends around 10th of july
Aah true
Edited the timeline.
Honestly
Would be fun if we can get atleast get a confirmation on shadow taking place in 2005
Or 06
I don't think 06 honestly, wouldn't make sense game asset development wise.
Usually game assets are finalised a year before the game releases.
Then the trailers and teasers start coming
There was already a trailer for Batman Arkham Knight in 2014
Im sorry Im confused?
Well the first gameplay trailer of Arkham Knight was in 2014. Game asset wise the game looks finalised.
If the pill bottles say expire in 2015 then it means that the assets where highly probably acquired/made in 2013 or 2014
(Game assets are stuff like models and textures btw)

Scarecrow returns to Gotham City with a scheme to unite the Rogues Gallery and destroy the Batman once and for all. As the citizens of Gotham flee and criminal gangs take control of the city, Batman evens the odds taking to the streets in the legendary Batmobile to ignite the fight that will decide the future of the city that he is sworn to pro...
Yea I know that but Im talking about you saying no about his 2006 theory of Arkham Shadow?
If shadow takes place during 2005 or 2006.
And the only confirmed year date is from knight
Holy shit I just realised you that guy in Nexus mods
Yup :3
I gotta thank you for gracing us the Arkham shadow suit in Arkham Knight 🙏
You're welcome
That means Suicide squad takes place in 2019 or 2020 which makes sense
Yeah it was already in development by then
Also around that time the version of unreal engine suicide squad uses was released
Oh I see what you talking about now my bad yea I see usually with modern games doing that Rockstar did with Gta online with one of its update taking place in 2017 and not 2013 which is the year the dlc was made 2017
That doesn’t matter?
It shows why Arkham Knight takes place in 2014 instead of 2015
I fundamentally disagree with your argument
Wait wait
Explain why it's 2015 instead of 2014
Because that’s when the game released
It does not matter when primary development is imo.
Well it does. It shows when most of the textures and assets have been made and acquired.
Which means that pill bottles with expiration dates of 2015 are bought in 2014, 9 out of 10 times. Otherwise it would be really special experimental pills.
Don't pills take more than 2 years before expiry?
Or hell 3 years
Well yeah but the minimum lies at 1 year. And usually healthcare wants to take money so they lowball the expiration date too.
This explains it
Yeah exactly taking release date as year it takes place is wayy less accurate then taking asset development
Well now you're contradicting with what I originally disagreed with
I did say that we can't assume the games take place on date of release
Yeah that's what I said too
I am taking asset development and those expiration bottles
I don’t think that really matters.
The prequel games take place in the early 2000s no matter what
We can agree on that
Yes ofcourse. Cause 10 years between knight and origins
And the original trilogy takes place in the mid 2010s.
Yeah. estimating the timeline using technological advances. And just easy to determine stuff isn't that hard. The exact stuff is wayy harder
That island in gotham looks way futuristic than the others
Like even the roads
Hexa based road type
Thats because its new actually. Build ontop old buildings. Kinda like scotland
Isn't the entirety of gotham.built over tho
No not really
Only founders
They are probably talking about the parts of gotham that aren't the islands
Where is Origins blackgate lil bro
Accept it because it’s part of the canon
What is "cannon"? lol
No, no, I actually don't know what the word is. :)
It means that it is part of the true story. Say for example the Arkhamverse have 7 games and one comic as a part of their current canon, but neither the movie, most of the comics, nor the mobile games are canon.
The story in those projects not deemed “canon” will be either mostly or completely ignored
Ah okay, thank you!
And Bruce’s age by Arkham knight is 38 since an arkham story called the butler says “the last time Bruce lied to me was 30 years ago” and commissioner Gordon says in the elevator when they are about to confront scarecrow “I will never forget taking a witness statement from an eight year old boy who had just seen his parents gunned down
Pretty sure Gordon knew who he was
He literally calls him Bruce in the following sentence
Because he heard Jason call him Bruce
Is that canon or headcanon?
Canon when Arkham knight reveals himself in front of Gordon to Batman he says Bruce.
