I have been meaning to ask this for a while. Does the Arkham games take place in the modern day? Or decades past?

In Arkham City there is a plaque that states it was built in 19XX.

Personally, I don’t believe that it takes place in the 90s backwards, but that very well could’ve been the original plan Rocksteady had..

As to which years specifically, there's many mentions of specific years

  • Arkham City plaque starting in 19**
  • Arkham Knight bottle pills with 2015
  • Arkham Origins trailer with 2013 calendar
  • Arkham Shadow with Ratcatcher's birthday in 1988

But these all contradict each other, as mentioned above, I believe the specific years are always meant to be kept vague

Update: Batman Arkham Knight has pill bottles expiring in 2015, which is the only date that is actually presented in an Arkham game other than the Arkham city plaque.

If the pill bottles say expire in 2015 then it means that the assets where highly probably acquired/made in 2013 or 2014
