When I heard Thjazi's name it immediately rang a bell to me, and then with everything that's been going on with the end of the first episode, it suddenly felt chillingly appropriate in retrospect.

Thjazi (sometimes anglicized as Thjazzi) is the name of a figure in Norse mythology who kidnapped the goddess of youth, whose golden apples helped keep a unique group (the gods) eternally youthful. Compare this with Thjazi Fang, who very recently stole a stone that helped ferry immortal elves past the unpleasantness of the Underworld.

I just find it neat. And a little bit too nail-on-the-head to be coincidental.

Last night in the Underdark...

• The party begins preparations to resurrect their two fallen companions. Now that they've found a potential healer at the monastery, they need to gather enough gemstones to perform the ritual. They also conveniently met two temporary hires new friends at the monastery who are willing to aid them in their gemstone hunting.
• After setting out back into the underground wilderness, the party encountered a gnomish wanderer who had lost his earring. The gnome also had items for sale, but he offered one free item if the party could help him find his earring.
• The party spent the next half of the session looking for the earring. (They found it and traded it for a portable hole).
• Assuming that they would - at some point - likely encounter the wizard they stole from two sessions ago, they sold all their stolen goods to the gnome hoping the wizard would go after him later instead. (They then used the gold to buy more things from the gnome. "Things" being: An immovable rod, a "potion that makes you go fast", and drugs).
• Nearing where they were told they could find gemstones, the party encountered a deranged hook horror that soon became a deceased hook horror. We had to end the session right at the end of combat, right as the horror's neogi master went to flee the scene.

The merchant was not very forthcoming, and did in fact disappear in a puff of smoke immediately after the final transaction was made.

He did say the drugs (Frost, is the name) are actually something that can be added to "enhance" any potion its mixed with. He also didn't say how it would enhance it, just that it would.

The sorcerer did an arcana check with his alchemy kit to see what the properties of the "potion that makes you go fast" were, only to find its real name is "Potion of Making You Go Fast"

Since none of my players are in this chat, the potion sets your base walking speed to 300ft, and you can end the effect at any point. But for every round you keep it after the first, you gain a point of exhaustion for every turn you end with it.

I had one once who sold or gave the party a potion (I think it was) he claimed would give them a vision of a past event through a dream.

Then came back later that night to steal from them while they were stuck in the vision 😜

Except they didn't drink it, and they had a tiny hut set up 😔

My favourite merchant was a retired adventurer who invested their savings in creating a pocket dimension bakery they could carry around, so they could be a travelling baker. When the party encountered them "randomly" he recognised them, and said some people they'd helped previously had ordered a cake on their behalf as a small thank you.

Demons of hte Dark, however, come from the Dark. Which is everywhere that the Actuality isn't (and the Actuality is all of reality), everywhere outside the light of the suns, and are very annoyed about this, and would quite like the Actuality to go back to not existing, thank you very much.

My Paladin player managed to get himself banished back to the Feywild alone and I tried intimidating him with a gold dragon during a solo session (so we didn't waste the time of the rest of the party). He proceeded to deal 102 damage to my dragon on turn 1 and 110 damage on turn 2, while saving against all the breaths the dragon sent his way.

Today my player who had gotten his character banished to the Feywild (where he is a fey Marquis) decided to troll the party by rolling up with a character sheet for his son and heir and gaslighting the party into thinking his original character is dead. In reality he 2TK'd my dragon and I rolled nat 1s every single time they tried casting Sending to contact him from another plane so they were just not getting through because my dice are cursed.

I had Vaelus pegged for soldier originally but am now thinking seeker? If it’s not torn banner folks I might swap Azune for Vaelus.

Occtis and Hal are tricky to place but I gave Occtis as schemer due to the sundered house connection and Hal as seeker currently. Murray keeps flipping for me.

I’m pretty confident in Julien, Wick, and Tyranny as schemers.

Seekers are more difficult. Most likely I think are Thaisha and Bolaire. ||

c4 All || Im pretty sure Wicander and Tyranny will be schemers, so putting Laura, Travis, Matt, and Marisha as schemers (A) doesn’t spread out the original cast, and (B) makes a table of 6, when equal distribution would be 5 or 4.

If the couples stay together, and Murray and Julien are more likely to be schemers, then Teor and Thimble might be soldiers.

Unless they split up Wic and Tyranny, and Wic is at the Seekers table. But so far they seem like a package? Tyranny feels more built for scheming than seeking to me. ||

Azune, Kattigan, and Thimble all had military ties to Thjazi and reasons to want him alive. Thaisha was involved in the conspiracy and wants to know more of what happened.

Seekers (what is going on with the Nightsong? Why did Thjazi seek out remnants of angels?) Vaelus Murray Bolaire Halandil

Bolaire and Murray are both seekers of arcane knowledge and so are likely wanting to investigate what’s up with the box, the paint, the stone, etc. (I think the paint is angel blood). Vaelus has obvious reasons to want the stone. Halandil is hard to place rn, so I put him here but I could see him shifting to a different group in my predication after this week. He was told to meet with Murray and Bolaire for reasons so maybe that provides the link to be in the same group.

Schemers (politics around the Sundered Houses): Julien Occtis Wick Tyranny Teor

Julien and Occtis both have ties to the Sundered Houses and have been set to meet up. Wick and Tyranny have hired Teor to work for him.||

I feel it’s fair to assume rn ||Tyranny + Wick + Teor are together and Occtis + Julien are together ||

This is the group involved in the escape plan, and which met at thimble’s hideout and is currently pursuing the crow seekers right now, who are going to need to work out both what went wrong with Thjazi’s rescue and clean up any loose ends Thjazi might’ve left. I think they will be the ones venturing outside of the city, which makes sense for why Occtis is joining them (he’s on the run and needs to get out of the city).

schemers: wick, tyranny, teor, julien, hal

These are all groups with ties to the sundered houses, and who may be interested in finding out what house Tachonis is doing. Teor, Wick, and Tyranny have already been thrown in together, there will likely be an inciting incident at Ambessa’s ball for Julien to become involved, and Hal will want to know why house Tachonis wanted to kill Thjazi

Seekers: Murray, Bolaire, Vaelus and Thaisha

Murray and Bolaire both have interest in magical artifacts, Vaelus wants the stone of nightsong, and Thaisha is from the family that forged the weapon which killed the gods||

||this also has the advantage of all three tables having relatively balanced compositions.

Seekers: ||Vaelus, Thimble, Wick, Tyranny, Teor. Figure this plot line is going after the stone and other celestial stuff and post-god religion. Vaelus and Thimblr have thr stone to go after, Wick has his whole deal to figure out. Tyranny makes sense to stick with him and there is the lose connection with Teor becoming a protector?||

Soldiers ||Thaisha, Occtis, Kattigan, Julien. The leftovers...||

Speaking of war crimes... in my Sunday game, my character was investigating another pc's family into creating genespliced people, knowing that it is highly illegal, because another pc was a genespliced person.

He goes to the pc who to ask her about it. The problem? She is secretly genespliced aswell. 🤣

So she semi lies to him. And then creates a shell company to lead him astray. She thinks that my character is onto her. 😂
