Minecraft movie, I guess.
Invincible and the Boys have both become very popular.
Though the Boys has definitely fallen off. And Invincible is not really a growing fanbase.
1st epp of expanse was dec 15th 2015
Invincible isn't live action either though.
So yeah almost all of it was this last 10 years
Oh my bad didn't realize you specified live action.
Yep yep, hence why i said it counts.
If we count animated we get a lot because we essentially get every successful anime in the pile.
The boys is a terrible adaptation imo. It's a good show, but it, for better(and mostly not for worse) completely abandons the source material.
We talking only TV? Because Dune I would include if we are considering movies.
My point mostly goes to, a large mass of these adaptations tends to fail.
Dune, foundation
Dune definitely counts.
Yeah... mostly for the best but I agree.
For sure.
Though unfortunately some of them succeed despite having no right to like some of those terrible live action Disney remakes.
Are we just counting any high concept success?
Andor isnt an adaptation.
Because I'd say only last of us is a successful adaptation out of those.
Either way, your trying to assert that live action highly cgi things aren't successful right now
And its just not the truth
Oh absolutely not.
-# Andor also isnt heavily CGI~
True
I'm trying to say that mass scale live action adaptations, particularly of written media, tend to fail way more often than they succeed, either as adaptations, in quality, or financially.
Typically with some mix of all 3.
It is and has always been tremendously hard to have all of those to be fair.
And that it's not particularly negative to think that a failure is likely until shown otherwise.
I try to keep as optimistic as I can about things I like but I get what you are saying. I have been a Star Wars fan for long enough to find it hard to not have the same mindset.
In general i think track record matters a lot and I'm also mostly optimistic about the idea of it.
As I said, i think it'll be solid quality wise as long as Cavill stays in charge.
I think it'll end up ballooning out of control and then never make back the money.
I would argue that adaptations and stuff like this are actually whats propping up the film and TV industry right now
Fair. I would be really worried if Cavil is not in charge and I do think that the more we get of it the more likely it becomes that we will get bad bits.
Like 70% of the top grossing things in the last decade are all adpatations
Im not too worried about warhammer 40k by cavil. Mostly cause its actually not being rushed and it feels like he wants to make it right
I like Cavill being in charge but for all that people tend to complain about fans not being put in charge, historically, you can often end up with a "not good enough" style situation which becomes a massive money sink.
And for all his advantages, I don't think he's got a serious track record either way for being a competent producer/director.
Yeah, I get that. I think while being a big fan of something means you probably have the passion to get it right it doesn't always mean you have the talent or freedom to do so.
That being said, Cavil is not going to be the director.
I'd imagine they'll have separate directors for each episode like most shows do?
He is the producer and I think it has been said that he will start in it as a side character but idk where I heard that.
I'd imagine he'd be the broad showrunner.
Probably but he has said that he wants to make shows and movies.
So movies will eventually also be in the table.
Imo they should have started with a movie but oh well.
If you're contracted to a streaming company it probably matters less.
Because amazon would probably want it on streaming really quickly anyways.
True.
Its also not helped by the fact, that as our discussion just showed, there's no real obvious storyline to tell.
Which is usually a big advantage in practical terms for most adaptations.
True though I think in this case that is actually an advantage if they go the same route that the Fallout show did where they just construct a narrative that gets to show you the most important parts of its setting. This is also great for introducing new people. There really aren't many Warhammer stories that exist that I would confidently say are new people friendly and provide a good view of the universe.
I think fallout is greatly helped by being extremely gamey and inherently comedy based. You can do a lot with that.
Funny enough I think old warhammer would be easily adapted in comparison.
warhammer originally was as well
Yeah exactly.
But i really doubt they wanna go for that vibe anymore.
GW seems to have strongly pivoted away from that since G man came back and the heresy got going.
Yeah they are a lot more focused on more serious stuff that has cool action and stuff, for better and worse.
It's also just a hard vibe to sustain a cinematic universe on too.
Fallout is moreso a one and done type deal from what I know?
I love that the lore as a whole is a lot more consistent overall and I love some of the character writing that has come from the more serious tone, but also something has been lost with the playing straight of what was once satire.
Rather than getting tons of spinoffs and whatnot.
That's why they're pivoting away slowly from even the grimdark itself in a large part.
Hard to say. Anything popular can get spun off until it hits rock bottom these days.
At least it seems like they haven't planned for it.
I think the thing I would be the most worried for is that it will be successful but it will then go too fast and burn itself out and end up in mid to bad land before long.
But the current stuff seems to be taking its time which is good.
Honestly it's kinda wild that studios keep trying to make cinematic universes. Making a cinematic universe from the bottom up has worked exactly once so far.
Yeah, though to be fair I think most have given up on copying Marvel exactly, now it is a little less ambitious and is instead just milking an IP until money stops coming out.
Orks tho
Yes. I need to see the boys on the screen.
Plenty of comedy in and around da boys and da shootas and more dakka
If this show is not afraid to show Orks in all their glory then we will know it is good.
I think if you can nail the Orks fitting into the same world as the Imperium then you have good Warhammer.
It mostly depends? I think most cinematic universe attempts are still trying to be very Marvel.
Hell, marvel is trying to be marvel again.
If you can fit death guard, chaos daemons, nids, imperium and orks into the same setting on a TV show and make it work then solid 40k adaptation
Other then DC I don't think anyone is really trying to start that kind of Universe where it builds up to big events though.
The only ones left standing are Marvel (sort of), and the Monsterverse.
And I know the Monsterverse is not a Paragon of quality or anything but it is really funny that they are still going.
No that is pretty firmly dead after Kraven.
And were trying to build to something.
No more are announced as of now.
They should have been dead after Morbius but they somehow still spat out Madam Web and Kraven, but they are dead now.
Star wars kinda has two separate petering attempts.
The filoniverse and high republic.
Technically so long as Spiderman exists in the MCU I don't think Sony will strop trying to cash in on it but hopefully the SPUMC is dead.
They should make a crossover movie.
You see I would say that is a different kind of thing than Marvel.
I will explain.
Very menacing.
I feel like that's a line the bad guy drops in an action movie intro scene before just shooting the person.
You see, Marvel is trying to make all of their movies work together to make one long story. That is what I would consider the traditional idea of a Cinematic Universe, and is what most of them have tried to be. But Star Wars was made as individual stories first then started to spin off after the fact. Star Wars is what I would consider a connected setting more than a connected narrative. While yes the Mandolorian and it's homunculi were/sort of still are building to something, they are ultimately side plots to the main plot of Star wars which is the numbered movies. All Star Wars side content ultimately exists to expand on concepts from the numbered movies first and foremost rather than making their own contributions that are at the same caliber of importance.
Anyway sorry for the textblock
In that very specific way I want Warhammer to be more like Star Wars than the MCU.
It's a bit different, I'd say.
I'm specifically talking about the filoniverse and kinda high republic.
High republic isn't really a cinematic universe, I guess, because it never got to the cinemas.
But it was definitely made up to be a series of stories from the ground up leading to a big crossover/joining storyline.
The filoniverse is definitely intended to lead into something now.
They're separate enclaves within star wars, but they're intentionally built a certain way to lead into something.
High republic in particular pretty much tries to be as far away from the numbered movies and Filoni is trying to sorta sneak around the movies and focus on his own cast of characters.
For warhammer you can't really do any of this.
If you try to go for enclaves you don't have the movies to somewhat fall back on.
I guess my point is that Warhammer shouldn't try to make the show the definitive representation of the universe, and I think that adapting a book is the surest way to try and fail at that.
Anyway. It's 1 AM here so I'm out.
That's definitely fair to some extent. All boils down to marketability i guess. Because I think for the audience they're trying to bring in, people who don't like warhammer yet, a definitive representation would work best.
Good night!
I find it funny that the good example here is over 20 years old
I missed the mega Henry’s TV show convo yesterday but this is what I expect
Henry is adapting Eisenhorn as the first 40k show. This has been heavily implied dozens and dozens of times by both Henry and GW people in an “elbow elbow you know you know eyebrow wiggle” way
The Heresy will get a show later and will likely follow the condensed “8 book necessary series” reprint of the Heresy that GW posted earlier in December
Definitely feel Eisenhorn is the way to go
Also part of me wants to point out that there's actually been several Warhammer shows on Warhammer+ or Warhammer TV or whatever their exclusive streaming platform is
And I want to say those don't really count but also, we don't actually know if the Henry show will be exclusive to that platform too, and if so, then either those count as the first shows or the henry show doesn't count as a show
Henry says his show is going on Prime
What I’m hoping for is Astartes 2 also gets put on Prime later because I ain’t giving GeeDub a red penny on that platform of theirs
-# pennies don’t exist anymore :p
Also Amazon made a post too that they will host a 40k show on Prime after Season 1 Secret Level basically became, “ The 40K episode… and 14 other bonus episodes”
I need to find that API tracker again, last I checked the 40k episode has a whole ass extra Zero on the end of its view count compared to all the others
Ciaphas Cain sitcom when?
oh yeah Age of Sigmar is getting a secret level type episode as well according to a recent investor thing from GW
hoping that da rats make an appearance
Id assume it will be heavily connected to the most recent expansion so expect it to be Stormcast v Rats.
I'm not sure if it'll be coming out during this expansion
idk where it is in production or if it's tied to another season of secret level
It’s on the table, secret level had an episode dedicated to D&D, not BG3, so it doesn’t need a video game to qualify
Im not sure either, they just said they are finishing it up in the financial statement.
But the latest AoS edition just came out last year so as long as it comes out nxt year or the year after they should still be in this edition.
@plush moth , if you wish for more, see the following:
the secret level episode was created by 1 silly little fan dude back in the day who decided “I will make a cinematic lore accurate 40k video all by myself”
It made a bajillion views, but GW took it down because it got too popular. But in compensation they hired him on the spot and occasionally they let him out of their basement
Thankfully fans copied and uploaded so many Re-uploads that GW just gave up taking them down. Enjoy
-# also lore bit: The space marines in both Astartes and Secret Level are talking. You the observer just can’t hear them because their helmets have perfect sound sealant, so only someone else with a radio helmet hears them. That’s intentional because it’s freaky seeing 8 foot tall tank man silently gliding around
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=DVXEYksoE6c&pp=ygUTYXN0YXJ0ZXMgZnVsbCBtb3ZpZQ%3D%3D
I know it is very possible it is just a weird writing concession but I actually really like it when 40k books describe Space Marines seeing something insane and being like "they couldn't feel fear but..." because I just see it as that being the denial that the Space Marine is feeling where they are like "I was told I couldn't feel fear so whatever I am feeling right now couldn't possibly be fear even though it is the most horrific thing I have ever seen."
Oh that's where this is from:

That sure is a glowup
woah the red corsair release as a xenos
it's a "Tarellian Dog Soldier"
and a "Juvenile Bhargesi"
the dog soldier is the crocodile looking thing
More pirates!
Currently these are the only Corsairs and both are technically the same kit
So more pirates including the return of Prince Yriel who is an important character is very good
the sculptor who gave this guy a bandana understood the assignment
oh wow those Custodes look awesome
Any other good reveals so far today
Plastic Custodes dreadnoughts and tanks
Just tuned in and these Custodies are hh Custodies and not 40k ones ?
Almost certainly they'll also be in 40k since Custodes were originally a 30k army
Okay so these models will probs be used in both ?
And while I haven't seen the new models if they're replacing the current resin tanks and Dreadnaughts, those are also in both games
Also scroll up to see PIRATE ELVES
ooh, did Yriel have a model before?
I thought 30k was a different scale to 40k
you can definetly just proxy them
He had an old resin model that got Legends
I dont care that much about pirate elves sorry
also so glad i waited for this because those are plastic Venatari, i wanted to get some of those
Elves are still too humie for me
I have an unpainted box of pirate elves 😔 I suppose they're now outdated
Well which pirate elves do you have?
I dont have pirate elves
That was to Rasaar
However you should own pirate elves because they are fricking sick
I would rather own some big bugs
Yeah that's this kit and is not being replaced
It's only like 3 years old and is the normal Corsair infantry while these new models are characters, elite infantry, and a vehicle
i see i see
Drukhari: am I a joke to you
Corsairs are cool since they get to use a mix of Craftworld psychic stuff and Drukhari insanity in their weapons
Anyway though I really want a Corsair box but can't find any
I'm gonna slam this new Vyper kit because it looks so good
BY HIS WILL ALONE
oh damn, that dreadnaught looks awesome
The jetpack Corsairs are also based on this old resin upgrade kit from like 20 years ago
Yo the updated Custodian Guard are sick
so glad about that, they basically made all the worthwile forgeworld stuff plastic now
i hope that dreadnaught is available solo, I'd put that on my shelf
(she says, with a pile of unpainted models...)
I'm still waiting on Drukhari refresh before I jump into edgy elves
The font for Maelstrom looks like it's a pirate romance novel
god i hope the Custodes box isnt too expensive
or that i can get some stuff in there seperately, dont really need another tank
New AoS stuff too
dope
Bare metal… Yellow and black hazard stripes… What can any of it possibly mean!?

Perturabo coming back?
definetly something Iron Warriors
Oh that’s Peter all right!
Peter’s current formis described as:
“To survive his turbo Primarch-Grade killing cancer Fulgrim gave him in Angle Exterminatus, Peter has become a half flesh/half tech Demon Primarch Dreadnaught”
And that’s very much some fleshy bits in that first shot of the power claw
The Bone Rider
i think it might be multiple models since this shot shows a gun and a powerpack, while others show two different claws
That looks like a nonprimarch to me
I would guess he comes with some legionaire models
maybe some tech marines or otherwise tech focused marines
If this isn’t a full range for an IW codex, at the very minimum Peter would still deserve some IW marine mini’s to go with him
lmao, Warhammer Community released an extra article explaining that some of the new Custodes models have feminine head sculpts

and the final question of the Q&A:
Are they going to stick with the femstodes this time I wonder?
Glad they're not backpedaling on that
i mean, i think it's neat
funnily enough, the writers for the Horus Heresy books talked about how they always wanted to have a mix of men and women for the Custodes but GW initially forbade it cause they only made plastic models with masculine head sculpts
I thought they decanonized it after the initial codex reveal or something
so if anything, this is less a retcon and more returning the canon to its intended state
pretty sure if you can crawl you'd be too old to become a Custodes
they get taken young
i never saw or heard any statement like that, and there is that one Tithes episode with the femstodes
which is the first and only animated Custodes so far
I think they just decided to not mention it again for a while after the backlash
i mean, given they put one in animation, i'm not sure if i'd say they decided not to mention it
Ah I don't know anything about the animations since I won't buy Warhammer+ lol
I know there's at least one Aeldari one in there but I ain't buying that
Now they just need the Sisters of Silence to get updated or additional models
i basically just bought the other one for basically only display purposes, should i really get another one for the same reason??
easy yes when its not your money Ander
im definetly getting Venatari and the Dreadnought though, i wanted those since i started but forgeworld is just too expensive
I mean I want to buy more Swooping Hawks mostly so I can paint them as more types of colorful birds
They basically were for 2 years now, so I guess they deemed it’s long enough to try again
I can't really see how they were basically decanonized when we had femstodes like... present in lore
So basically timeline is this:
10th edition Banana codex and The tythes episode 2 come out, femstodes exist
It is proceeded by one of the most in the red business quarters for 40k in a long time. AoS was doing a lot of heavy lifting
Basically any custods book was put on hold
The official guide came out, back to calling Custodes only men again
Costodes book Era of Ruin comes out, summary of Custodes is only men again
12 Custodes minis have come out in these 2 years, all male helmetless options
Tactics game had an update about Custodes, all men
4 massive Custodes joy toys, all men again
Guilliman vs Silent king book comes out. Has like 8 Custodes characters, all men agian
And now we are present day 2 years later where we Finally have a femstodes mini, and a Femstodes character in the scouring book 1 (she only has like 6 lines)
🤔
So now we sit back and watch the internet implode again
I wasn't aware of those events, so fair enough, thought tbh, I genuinely don't believe that Femstodes impacted their sales that much
They would not be doing this again if Femstodes were responsible for putting them in the red
This is GW, making sense is not in there vocabulary
huh yeah, i noticed that all my models only have male heads, just thought they were older than the femstodes reveal
It’s bold though, we’ll see if it sticks this time
Still, I legit do not believe that a single reveal about a single army would tank their sales that badly
Or if they get turbo banished 2.0
i think only Space Marines could manage that and it would need to be really terrible since they got so much other stuff
Ultimately GW is driven by minis. If they commit to female head sculpts then its sticking around for a while
A lot of people also dropped warhammer+
Basically people saw how people cancelled DnD beyond to get their way, and they did it again
In a sour humor kind of way, you can thank the army of chuds for forcing GW to make Astartes 2 because it’s literally a “Please resub!” tactic
well, given how they now have Amazon partnership, i feel like w+ isn't gonna be a big factor for much longer
Found an actual complaint for the new custodes
Just point and trust the machine spirit smh
This image is floating around like crazy. Just so everyone knows, its fake if you see it
Just a really good photoshop edit of an ancient fan mini on the box
oh yeah i saw that before the reveal

I forgot just how goofy Old Huron’s model was
5731 likes, 203 comments. “#elegoo #warhammercommunity #tyranids #warhammer40k 1000% hormagaunt all finished up really happy with him 😬”
The Grey Knight captain next to it makes it even funnier. He got a few rocks and a more dynamic pose but otherwise barely changed. Meanwhile Huron looked like that
Reddit is a cesspool most of the time, but I wanted to let you all know that a few months ago, an r/alphalegion member posing as an Iron Warriors fan started a fight with another r/alphalegion member posing as an Imperial Fists fan. This triggered a meme war between r/ironwarriors and r/imperialfists.

That's what I get for only watching the first 10 seconds of this 20 second clip 😔
Ciaphas Cain: "I only have room in my life for one dangerous woman"
Amberly Vail, editing: "I choose to take that as a compliment"
There aren't yet any Cain books in the time since the 40K meta-plot started advancing and they retconned the 13th black crusade right? The last chronological book is during that period but pre everything happening IRL.
isn't he nominally dead in the modern timeline?
He’d have to be by now unless his gf got some of that exclusive inquisition Rejuvenant™
I fully expect eventually he'll be moved into the modern era
he's dead in the framing-narrative told by Amberly, but I don't think he has an official date of death and he also has oodles of wiggle room and an official "always listed on active duty" exception because he's bee missing-presumed-dead so many times. I think the current timeline has advanced quite a lot though since Roboat's return and I don't think Cain is considered important enough to get all the imperium's life-prolonging treatments, just whatever Amberly slips him. I think it's mentioned that he and Jurgen get some from her at some point, but probably not "live 400 years"
Cain is never dead he is still on the active duty roster
is there an artist for this? 👀

Significantly cheaper than GW but not quite
Is that a Titanleg?
Warhound by the look of it.
The campaign has always been my favorite part of Dawn of War, putting its RTS action in context of the wild, over-the-top, operatic drama of the far future. But when I got to go hands-on with the first bit of Dawn of War 4's grim story, it was a bit less opera and a bit more party rock, with the Ork faction leading the way. And as straightforwar...
Is warhammer + worth it
do you want the anual mini?
Probs not
Are the app things worth it
Like do I get full access to the offical apps
I'd be in support of getting it for a month to watch all the animations when Astartes II comes out but unless you really like their app for the tabletop probably don't bother with anything else.
I just kinda wanna do something relativly cool and relativly unique for my maggotkin
If anyone has other ideas hit me up
The icey ones might be easier as well outside of adding extra spikes
I think the Icy one fits better with Nurgle personally.
I've always loved the idea of nurgle factions with kind of a bloated drowned corpse vibe and making them all underwater themed.
Davy Jones Locker vibes.
yeah. i also find the ice ones better
My son agrees
Icy is best
So we are gonna do maggotkin

He isnt decided between bonereapers and skaven
the blue is also easier to do the contrast in the other one requires clean up if you may a wayward stroke with the bright colors. blue honestly won't notice if your a bit off

smh gotta make sure to have Sloppity Bilepiper in there
he truely is the average 40k fan
Idk if I value his ability that highly tho
yeah hes not the best rn but hes solid to own as he historically has his place
I will totally get him eventually
Idk if getting him right now is the way tho
This boy is wish he was in 40k
Today, we are introducing our very first Character Pack. To mark the occasion, we’ve worked closely with Games Workshop to introduce an entirely new character to Warhammer lore - Bhashiva, the Desert Tigress, White Tiger of Shang Yang - accompanied by a deadly host of mercenary Tiger Warrior units.
I know they'd hinted at it but I'm still surprised, Creative Assembly is responsible for so much new stuff in the fantasy setting
unfortunately I don't think that they'll have the same impact on 40k because GW is much more protective of that setting
also this is really good value
I presume the core roster is every unit not added by the Shadows of Change DLC
That is nice
Maybe one day we'll get a Tzeentch character pack
A man can dream....
Also vampire counts rework
I haven't played them in so long and I recently did my first Empire playthrough and it just made me want to conquer the empire as vlad again
we'll definitely get Von Horstman eventually
Bhashiva and the Tiger Warriors is a god band name.
These look sick
never been a big fan of the admech vibe
mabey when dark mech comes out ill be more of a fan
Yeah they're not my favorite but it's cool to see them get a new named character and some heavier dudes

i know some of you nerds love the aeldari stuff
be me, curious what could possibly be going on with Henry’s show
looks into it
Ah! He truly is putting his everything into this show and fighting corporate-stupid writing wherever it is
40k really is his little Blorbo and it will not be mistreated
Fight on Mr. Geralt-Superman!
positive news good news
glad to hear good things still comming out about that
im glad he truly is putting his passion to work. ALSO news that they have finished writing for season one is very nice
means we might even get to watch that season next year?
Can you share the article?
found it then opened it in reading mode cause their website is add central
Sounds very cool. I hope that is true.
i do too
it will be really cool if this pops off and then we are getting some warhammer tv show stuff at the same time as cosmere stuff
captialism might be popping off for that one
Ngl, this whole "Cavill as the main gatekeeper of lore" is giving me such red flags
Like maybe unfairly so, but when I'm reading about stuff like the three-strikes rule, it makes him sound insufferable to work with
it doesn't cast him in a good light, yeah
Possibly but i think Cavill has kinda take a mythic role in internet gamer elitist culture wars in a away that means alot of coverage around him may reflect what the writer wants not what is
i strongly dislike how this sort of slant sets up cavill as The Real Fan, possibly even The Only Real Fan on Set
I think there's a strong chance that this show goes on to be a valuable lesson about how a 1:1 adaptation isn't necessarily a good adaptation
I generally think this will suceeed tbh. It sounds like hes put the effort into learning what he needs to know to make this work
but people may take the wrong message from it
and that slant informs a LOT of how any conflict in interpretation or direction or smallest bit of writing will turn into "cavill is the true hero trying to stop those stupid evil shills from ruining this" all while framing behaviour on set that you just don't see praised. that's the nicest way to say some bad set behaviour i've seen
I just dont see any of this as saying that. More he put in extra hours on a part of the process he was passionate about. Rather than "i am the only arbitor of truth for the lore and no one can say no to me"
people who slow down the day on the set, who make a HABIT of slowing down the day on set, is consistently slowing or even stopping the work, and getting into arguments is like... 😬 i don't have any reason to take a shine to that, esp given that this is just repeat behaviour of the witcher
I have 0 context for his behaivour on set at the witcher
and how framing is the only reason there's this weird little story of "cavill, the real fan heroically defending "the real canon""
that i have no reason to believe
I'm strongly of the opinion that if my boss is working extra hours, especially if it's because he doesn't trust us to do the work right, something's gone horribly wrong
I never knew untill now that poeple disliked him because of behavior on the witcher
It sounds super elitist, and frankly, getting overly attached to maintaining the lore over everything else can be just as bad as dismissing it
Also everything Grey said
And a 3-strikes rule is generally a great way to either nuke morale, or make sure nobody revises anyone else's work until it's too late to fix it
like i read that and feel SUPER bad for the people who've worked really hard on this, and if they get into a real disagreement with cavill on something, are going to be excoriated by the internet because they'll assume cavill is in the right
Yeppp
But is that just the way the author wants it portrayed or what is actually happening.
It's building up the narrative that's gonna be covering Cavill's ass whenever something people don't like appears in the show
I have just never seen poeple speaking so poorly about him yet. Like do we even know for reals that he is actually behaving like this
What I've heard about Cavill on The Witcher sets makes me concerned that he hates adapting works, and only wants to transcribe a work into a new medium
literally like, this article is enough
(Also, strictly adhering to the lore of a franchise that plays as fast and loose with the details as 40k sounds like a great way to wind up with a jumbled mess)
I mean depends what specifically your adapting. If you’re adapting a specific storyline it’s fine. And as much as 40k is chaotic in the way any franchise with as much stuff as it has you can establish the cannon you want to pull from
Like if you want to do Horus heresy you can just say we use the books as the canon and work from there
Either way the way that article is written sounds like the type of trite ego boosting puff pieces that have become the cadence of ai. I’m skeptical of its description of events
Im just hopeful cause sounds like season ones writing is done
And we might be getting progresssss!!!!
I am to some extent too but I think going off the Witcher he was broadly wrong about how he was right. Enormously polarizing on set (the cast, in general, really liked him and the crew, in general, really did not)
I hesitate to say that where the Witcher went vindicated him and his behavior because I get the impression he was a real ass but also The Witcher is sort of a socially complicated piece to adapt and I think the direction the decision-makers wanted to take it was bad
I can absolutely see a world three to five years from now where it turns out he was a real tyrant about this and had impossible standards (particularly for the crew and writers' room) and there was high turnover rate etc
And maybe not. Maybe he's got everyone on the same page. I'd prefer to live in that world, I think. But I do think it does warrant a "hm, I'll file this away for later in case we do start seeing reports of this being a toxic work environment"
One other thing the things they list hes making sure are correct are like basic things to get right.
like the color scheme, pronunciation of the main faction, and while cross checking symbols is vague all those seem likely reasonable things to not get wrong
My concern is not that he's going to get stuff wrong
My concern is that he's going to be wrong about the way in which he strives to be right
My point is the stuff they actually listed as the stuff he was ensuring is correct is very mundane
Unless the article cites sources or directly has a non-AI generated interview with show runners, assume it as hearsay or made up.
Pretty sure that article is just uninformed clickbait
I think that's the main thing the author wanted to achieve with this article and very little of it is actually based on real facts
Its also not stuff you have to stay in Office for past midnight for multiple days. Its just supposed to sound like Cavill is super dedicated and gets all these deep details right on a surface level.
For my 2p I kinda... Having watched and been sad about both the reception and fate of the Wheel of Time show, but also critical of some of the choices they made, I think that nerds who are hyperfocused on the idea that an exact reproduction of the text on screen is the Only True Way are utterly insufferable, but on the other hand, also compare with The Expanse where some pretty big changes were made but which was on the whole extremely positively received by the fanbase, I think it's important to get the fans on-side and I think, weirdly, getting the little and nuances details right helps with getting people to accept bigger foreground thibgs. It's a difficult thing to know how something will be received and especially terrifying when that thing has a large, terminally online fanbase, parts of which are very toxic.
I think that's a really good way of putting something I've always thought. Sticking to the text is not necessary for a good adaptation, LOTR shows this in abundance. But so long as the changes still have the attention to detail and feeling of the stuff that's closer to the text is there, it's fine
My wider thesis is that errr so long as its good at being the thing is, who cares how close it is to the source material but I'm bad at explaining that without just going "Hey do what LOTR did"
I like how before all of this all anyone was saying was that Amazon was gonna get it all wrong, but when something comes out saying that Cavil is going to try to make sure it is lore accurate everybody switches to, it's gonna be too faithful.
I personally do think that the issue with this show was always going to be that it is too obsessed with getting everything exactly correct, I simply do not believe GW would let another company mess with their IP if it was not going to be intently guarded.
That being said, the difference between this and an adaptation of a book is that we have so far gotten no indication that it is actually based on a pre-existing book or story, and if it is an original story in the world I would not be worried about the normal adaptation issues, because they can make it for TV first and foremost.
Also this article is almost certainly at very least hyperbolic. I doubt Cavil had a "three-strike rule" otherwise he wouldn't have any writers left because warhammer lore is impossible to get 100%.
Half the fun of warhammer lore is that most of it is given via in-universe texts, all of which are unreliable.
Yeah, the unreliability doesn't communicate well on screen unless you make that the point, I imagine.
I'm starting the audiobook for the one good Tau book and it turns out that its narrated by Minthara's VA, Emma Gregory
She's also one of the excerpt VAs for the Ciaphas Cain books
what's the "one good Tau book", out of curiosity?
Elemental Council is the one most people are positive on and I assume the one Ander is meaning.
A good Tau book? 👀
Elemental Council, so I have been told.

Yeah Elemental Council
Eldar and Tau books tend to suck since the main authors for each like making them lose and giving them stupid lore (respectively), but each has a couple exceptions written by different authors. Eldar have Valedor, which is more of a typical 40k epic battle story but is pretty good, and Voidscarred, which I haven't read but hear is very good
Elemental council is good
Night Lords trilogy is great, I'll cosign that
Citadel is such a cool name
macragge blue? Did they forget what they named the smurfs?
what was it again... the name of a colour...?
🤔
ultra something?
idk they arent pushed very hard and i think the playerbase isnt there we might as well remove them
gw might even just remove the whole army soon since no one likes them
Ultrablueberry iirc
ahthat was it
might even be ultramar ?
Unfortunately they can't trademark that
What do you mean they can't trademark ultrablueberry
im farly certain they stopped doing that becuase its an industry term
yeah I know
the same dumb reason they changed all the names
if they could get away with it they would retcon the ultramarines to be called the sons of macragge or something
but people would lose their mines
GW lawyers probably bring it up every meeting
id prefer if every space marine was named after industry paint standards
Ultramarines are, in fact, not ultramarine. That is why GW has to say a different name because they are Cobalt
First is Ultramarine
Second is cobalt
lol that's so funny
Quite literally GW would get sued by an artist saying “they sold me a false color!” If they full chested said it’s ultramarine
tho I'm sure if I dug out my old white dwarfs they would be telling me to paint it ultramarine blue
mostly tho I just like to mock GW and their semi-recent "rename everything so it can be trademarked" silliness
yeah they did the ours is named ultrsmarine blue even if its not ultramarine
though since I'm OLD now that means "in the last decade or so"
Wait lol that's so much funnier
So they're named after a color instead of being like Ultra Marines like the name initially sounded like to me, and they got their home territory named after them so that in-lore they're called Ultramarines because they're from Ultramar, and they weren't actually ultramarine to begin with

While there are several examples of this that I think are stupid (like T'au and most of Age of Sigmar's renaming), I do generally like the paint names
Daemons gets me every time
thats the one that pisses me off
causelike why not just call them demons
There's a few that are still weird (Screamer Pink when Screamers are mostly blue, Biel-Tan Green is a green wash but the actual craftworld is mostly white and not green, Balthasar Gold while named after the best Warhammer Fantasy character is actually a copper color) but overall I like them
Daemons is a legitimate archaic spelling of demons and they've been using that spelling the entire time, much longer than all those trademark renamings
oh yeah i know that exists
it just is another gw names things odd thing for me that catches me every time i say demons
I also think that one is cool even though it trips me up too
Aeldari irks me
I still usually call them Eldar but since that's also a Tolkien term I get why they changed it. Aeldari sounds pretty cool anyway
It has just the right amount of alien in it
Ultrabluebaerry
They also got a really cool paint named after the new term
I used for the wings on Peacock Lord and its fantastic
So mabey there is a good reason they changed it
I need to figure out other things to use this color on. Maybe Corsairs if I ever get some
From my flgs
Found the YouTube vid version

yeah its an obvious name change but its still sounds dumb to me
Honestly I'm more disappointed by the font change than the name
~~I mean, if they're changing the name because it's obvious, when is James Workshop changing his name to Warren Hammer? ~~
dope, this is really cool
"Magnus did nothing wrong."
You are right, Magnus did nothing, wrong.
Feels good to actually finish and post something for the first time since like November
Love the bases
At the same time, my youngest brother has finally finished his very eclectic painting of his 500-ish points of Death Guard
Yeah I think he did a good job. I personally would have had more colors on each model but I'm uh. A little overboard on my color schemes
i hate the constant greens that everyone does ill give you pics of my current plaguebearers
so you can show him my stuff
(i didnt paint it tho my partner did )
added some pics of my sons rats in too
we still need a bunch of detailing work on my plaguebearers and bases and stuff but this is the vibe we are going for
legit thats what ppl keep saying
I love the ratling gun too because that is one of the greatest unit designs in all Warhammers
my son loves the rats, he is currently working on painting a unit of those and about 80 clan rats
and we are hoping that the rumors of a cities x eshin skaven spearhead are true
you should tell your brother that from a nurgle enjoyer i his detailing and some of the effects hes put on
Average skaven numbers lol
Hes really latched hard onto the rats and I cant wait till we have enough to play some games
Skaven are great
It's Krieging time!
This Norn survived being shot at by all of this with 2 wounds
that's a cool Tyranid pain scheme
oh wow, did the Norn do that?
Well she shot the Guardians in the face and killed most of them, but no the broodlord+genestealer brick behind one of the terrain pieces and the Neurotyrant+neurothropes squad killed everything
However there was a cat
Just got this kit for my partner. Cant wait to see all the options for poses and accessories
Yeah that's the fun part of Gloomspite Gitz
Shes really into the vibe of shrooms trolls and squigs
So it will probs be a trolls + squigs army list

YOOOOOOO

Unsurprisingly
I love this trend so much
now i just need someone to actually paint all of these
Language warning
honestly not too far off from what actually happened
Yeah, pretty much correct.
wait they brought him back?
See here
oh I thought that was a "we have a new model, he's still dead in lore" type thing
The “he’s dead” skull is in the promotional material. And lore of how he’s back will be later they say
People are joking in the speaker in the video pissed off his soul so much he willed himself back to life just to kill him
Lol. I never really thought they would leave him dead honestly.
smh where's Cain someone to drag Cain out from whereever he's hiding when the Imperium needs him?
I think it would be funny if Cain was just found in Amberly Vails closet
Mfers been hiding away from office duty
"It was in the final days of the 41st millennium when I faced my greatest and most horrifying challenge to date: trying to convince myself that I'm cowardly enough to let everyone continue to think I was dead and stay on this nice vacation world while people I care about are in danger."
If they bring back Cain I’d want it one of two ways
- a one off joke that never gets addressed
- he gets brought back as some sort of celestial
I think it's reasonable for him to be active during early M42, his latest chronological appearance is during the 13th black crusade, before it was retconned so there is still room for him to be active/react to some of the more current canon even without shenanigans
though I do think it would be very funny for him to be brought back by the strength of his reputation as the most begrudging imposter syndrome having living saint in the galaxy
Even funnier they should do a guardsman book with another imposter and he has mental conversations with an idolized version of Cain. Turns out it’s actually Cain and he’s still just as much of the same guy.
Maybe a result of some psychic event or necron definitely not magic
Two mental failures with secret courage helping each other
This is the canon reason in my head
Bought myself a little treat to try out kitbashing
Ooo watcha making?
Exallted Eightbound but with Possessed bits, imo they dont look enough like they house daemons
Yeah they are really more of outside daemons.
If you ever question “how the hell was this considered farm/construction equipment??? It’s got such big guns!” in 40k, remember the following:
Anything can turn into a war machine if you stick enough guns on it
Just ask Toyota
the cool new Defiler also has good rules, yay
When they go up for sale I'll have to see if I can help my brother get one
He already wanted a defiler with the old model and rules and even more so now
ill definetly try and get one, it looks too cool not to get
Oh boy, some pretty reliable leak sources are saying AoS has pretty much plummeted in sales in the last 9 months to basically nothing , and GW is going to whip out End Times 2 pretty soon if things can’t turn around
It will be called The Last World
If anything, at least it will be funni watching all The-Content™
I've heard of some of this but also that the leaks aren't that reliable, so I guess we'll have to see
At the very least the fact that AoS got stuff like new models for several factions a couple months ago and had an entire new faction release last year makes it sound like it's doing okay
And a new edition of the TTRPG not that long ago I believe
After like a decade+ without
If aos is dead id be shocked its like top 3 selling wargames
On the other hand, anything less than 40k might be Almost Dead
Which is ridiculous but also the world we live in
The only reason I could see is if they wanted to optimize their profits by reducing upfront costs for shareholders
GW is one of the better performing British stocks if I recall
I mean sure but also sometimes good is not Enough
OKAY so
that person just dissapeard off the internet after leaking some stuff for a long time
one of their leaks recently was fake given them by gw to route out the leaks
so dont trust anything right now about aos
may have even been that leak
I was understating it I’m fairly certain they were top 10 in terms of growth. I know they were number 1 a few years back
Yeah sometimes that doesn't matter though
Entertainment companies in particular have a habit of picking up investors and executives for whom the good is the enemy of the perfect
okay but heres the thing, because 40k is going gang busters and boosting gw stock so much over the last few years
it matters less and less that aos sells less than 40k
and aos is still like 3rd i think it goes 40k>battletech>aos>haloflashpoint>marvelcrisis
aos is still very profitable
and number is going up and so is the rate of number going up so the suits will eb happy
GW ultimately makes almost all their decisions based on how they are selling models, with exceptions only happening when there's stuff like the Amazon show or Space Marine II
their last edition box underperformed in terms of sales
if they actually go through with the leaks, it'll be because of that
and it would not be an end of AoS, it would be 5th edition
AoS has by far GW's best looking kits, I would be baffled if it was doing poorly.
I mean yes but also you underestimate humanity
4th edition was the first time they has a box that didn't feature a new faction and it also was close to the Old World (the Skaven are also playable in TOW so GW might be doing some funky accounting there depending on how model sales are attributed)
People would rather buy slightly different space marine then something that genuinely looks good
Chaos Dwarfs were also released but again Chorfs are technically playable in TOW so idk how their model sales count either in GW's mind
GW is very big into the idea that their studios compete against each other and I feel like TOW and AOS are cannibalizing each other in a way that 40k and 30k don't
what doesn't make sense is the leaks imply that AOS is going to become more like TOW as a setting when I would expect GW to want more differentiation
and according to those leaks it's getting it's own versions of Cathay, Nippon, and Brettonia
I’d imagine is they want them to use the same models and have rules for both
\they would not want that, GW tries very hard to differentiate them
it's the whole reason Beastmen aren't playable in AOS anymore
Yes but if they are making a change that would be the policy i see them being urged to switch
I guess anything is possible but that seems uncharacteristically proconsumer of them
It’s not it encourages aos players to buy old world kits
Thats more pro consumer than their current position which is "buy an aos army and a tow army if you want to play both games"
Theres evidence that those leaks like i said above aren't true
For a while the guy was credible and leaking things accuratly
But just removed themselves and said bye they found me basicly
At least some of what he said is totally believable
Like slaanesh being freed is a certainty and poor performance in 4th Ed would make it a very likely plot point for 5th Ed
Sure some of its totally believable
GW just finished violently murdering that concept. The last blow was struck against the poor beastmen.

I'm trying to work out what weapons my brother put on his Death Guard and my gosh these guys have an absurd number of weapon options
Every Blightlord and nearly every finished Plague Marine has a different gun and none of them have their base weapons (though both squads are legal loadouts)
Seven different load outs for the Plaguefather's chosen.
You can do that!

Hell yeah
70 new detachments
All the stuff from tonight is now live on war com
All of the 40k rules changes seem very good
Between no more circles and 70 new modular detachments
This all looks very cool
"We've had supply issues on the Mark X armour so we've had to supplement it with parts from older variants of the armour" is such a funny excuse for bringing back the old designs
The darth Vader vox grill is, and always will be, a classic
The two 11th edition models they showed off were so boring compared to (most of) the earlier models
Everyone was mogged by the cogfort tbh
Mogfort
My son is very happy with the eshin skaven
New Guard vehicles look pretty sick too
the mage designs were also great
love the death wizard having skeletons who toll on his bell helmet
What is this, some kind of Fort Knight?
you know it kind of is, its' like a fort that's a hedge knight
any faction can take it
i kinda wanna run some as nurgle infested and infected
i think it would be fun to nurglify a cogfort
definitely seems tailor made for kitbashes, plenty of spots to put your own faction's minis and relatively flat surfaces to add on thematic greeblies
yaa i did a mock up of what it would look like with nurgle
and it looks so good
nurglings everywhere lots of green, lots of rusty broken down bits
sounds cool, I saw some theory crafting for a gloomspite one that also sounds fun
i just dont think i could ever make it a reality because i think it would take a bunch of kitbashing and im nowhere near that skill
Age of Sigmar models are so fricking cool
yaa i love it
Fellow snow base enjoyer
I like the technique on what I assume are blood jars on his back
Jakhals?
Also enjoy the Poor Dogs I built for practicing my dog spam list this weekend, I’m borrowing models so didn’t get to have them last night
yep, i dunno what possessed me to go hard on these but they've been great skin practice
Thank you I went way too long without finishing anything. Still gotta do my Warp Spiders and then I have completely unbuilt boxes of a Wraithlord and some Seers to go

Mood
Pile is looking shameful
how painful was the trim on the heldrake?
it's not done yet, and... not too bad? Just extremely tedious
not too awful with an audiobook
Snagged it at worlds 2023!
I really don’t know how I feel about removing objective markers
I believe its now just the AoS system?
Yeah they're keeping objectives, just adding other forms of primary point scoring based on your army and also making the objectives more variable than just circles
There will still be objective markers they will just be actual terrain and not circular
Yeah that’s the part I don’t like
The standardization of the markers was a big boon
I imagine it will still be standardized
Of course this had to come out asap
I just want someone to make a full series of these actual models and display them.
All these meme models
What they will do is use this as an excuse to create new purchasable terrain that your supposed to buy. But all this will amount to is cardbourd cutouts and slightly different shapes whcihc iwll be annoying
The issue is that often leads to congrats you get X amount of points for being x faction. Since many times the faction objectives can be made borderline gaurenteed
I much prefer when every faction knows what they are trying to complete and take away it leads to less asymetric match ups
Like X faction can stop Y faction's special objective but Z can't so they end up in a deadlock in the meta
I mean, no circular objective is somewhat interesting, but not something anyone really asked for.
I am curious about the changing objectives because 9th had that and it didn't really work.
I am also curious if it changes your primary, secondary, or both, because I would like for tactical secondaries to remain the norm.
Sure, you can make your own terrain though
I just hope it means there will be more interesting faction based terrain features that are actually good
Like if death guard get to use this thing
Some AoS style terrain could be cool if they want to really lean into the importance of terrain.
Agreed
Aos does such a good job of making terrain relevent good looking and mechanically interesting
Could also be a good way to get away from the L shaped ruins that I see some people annoyed by.
Im not personally all that annoyed by them, because I usually just play casual games and use whatever terrain is available.
They do seem to be pushing for parity at all levels of play as a core goal of this upcoming edition tho
It will be interesting to see how they try to pull it off
But having said that, having a terrain imbalance can really mess with the balance of a game so I can understand why tourneys stick to the Ls.
Calgfort
We did more work on the boys last night and started work on the nurglings
Started the detailing on there guts
im excited with where my armies going they are looking so good
I also managed to turn what should be a right-handed grip for my Wraithlord into this for turning her into a giant Banshee
What I got so far
Not the fanciest Wraithlord build but I think she looks good
I finished painting my Sisters of Silence with SoB bodies
Hell yeah Sisters of Silence are so cool
Sisters of Silence should get better guns than bolters.
(Yes I know they are anti-psyker but that doesn't really make them much better)
For balance reasons no.
they should also be better anti-psykers than just getting a feel no pain
The unpainted legion grows
they new ork boyz look good

WAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!
I think the emperor would agree those are the important details
he definatly wrote down the most important things going on around him
Knew it lol
Im kinda mad that the starcraft miniatures game actually looks good
But im too poor to get it
New art of Daemon Perturabo!
Bro turned into a titan
His model is gonna be freaking cool
Peter!!!!
Much like how sufficiently high enough science is indistinguishable from magic, a big enough Dreadnaught suit is indistinguishable from a large knight/smol titan
"greatest siege in history" you already did that, they wrote like 7 books about it
Well he quit halfway through last time. Now I assume he is trying to finish what he started.
He has to earn back the credit he lost when he threw a tantrum and left.
People have pretty much instantly started calling Peter “Techno Elden Ring Godrick” 😭 I’m seeing it everywhere
Huh
I'm not the first who come up with this joke, but I still wanted to animate this idea. So when I got a bit of free time I decided to get to it.
Big thanks to Kanbara914 and Yare-Yare-Dong for helping me with extracting Elden Ring models!
Animated and rendered in Blender 3.0.1. Additional editing done in Sony Vegas 13.

this year truly is the year of chaos
Mr Peter Turbo himself!?
Homeboy here needs more stripes
holy hell he's big
tbf so are all the Chaos Primarchs
fair, it's just... seeing him behind all those tiny space marines
he feels huge even compared to his brothers
Peter’s hammer is literally 3 space marines big
I think based entirely on art he is actually a little smaller than Angron.
GW in the past said he is in a Primarch sized Dreadnaught suit powered by his deamon energy so he can keep living despite the TURBO CANCER Fulgrim gave him
GW delivered what the size of of a Primarch Dreadnaught suit looks like
Depending on which art we are considering that is.
I only hope they do justice with Peter’s book. The bar is so low after the Fulgrim book, it’s at the bottom of a mineshaft
Oof
It won't be good. It can't be. It is a chaos primarch book. The most you can hope for is a good main protagonist because Peter won't be the protagonist.
You see GW does recognize unofficial holidays!!! Genius plans indeed!!!

info on detachments and building in 11th
also info on one of the iron warriors detachemnts https://www.warhammer-community.com/en-gb/articles/z4ippqsy/eye-of-terror-detachments-knights-and-warp-portals-galore/
These all seem fun
Enhancements for regular units too like they've done for a few of the new detachments like the Corsair ones
am i reading this right that now two characters can be attached to any unit and they dont need a special rule on their spreadsheet for that?
Yeah as long as you have a leader and a support character for the same unit
crazy, hopefully it makes some fun combos
Technically this is already a combo that exists in several armies (Imperial Guard, Space Marines, and Death Guard in particular) they're just streamlining the rules
Im really excited for the new disposition rules.
I really need to see some more detachments
At very least to see what the costs for our current detachments are going to be.
