Every time I hear “this isn’t as tight” or “this is [author]’s weakest work” I often like it more than their other books.
Well, namely Elantris. I’m not sure when else I’ve heard this besides Traveler’s Gate and Elantris.

Bloodline ||I liked how bleak it all seemed, I liked them all sacrificing themselves for Lindon, I liked seeing how Sacred Valley rulers are just a bunch of (bad words), however what made it my favourite were the two chapters where Lindon reunites with his parents, omg that was masterful and so.... ||I also liked that the Abidan had to let Cradle go, can't wait to see Ozriel coming back (that man is 100% alive and used the scythe to conceal himself), in short, I liked how it was the saddest book of all||

Cradle isn't one of those, only the highest levels know about Abidan and it has its own fate that the Abidan meddle in. Abidan worlds arent like that, Abidan meddle there all the time because they live there||

I judge Sea and Shadow much more differently than Cradle, and in this way I'm a lot more harsher on it

I find that Will Wight's strength as a writer works much better on Cradle and Traveler's Gate than with something like Elder Empire

HxH has a lot of focus on characters and how they think and act. I feel like the fights tend to focus more on creative applications of the magic system rather than spectacle (obvious exceptions later on) yeah I know barely anything has happened || Lindon's sister just turned iron but I just tend to like slow burn stuff and this starts with a god coming down to prevent billions of deaths or something like that. ||

Cradle(this is about how progression is through out, only vaugly spoilers) || I'd call that a: look how far the ceiling is. No one in the series is approaching that level of power anytime soon ||

I will say though that "game coded" isn't really that accurate, especially compared to litrpgs which attribute stats and character sheets to people. Cradle does have advancement ranks but they are more like radiant ideals in execution

Meanwhile the litrpg genre is basically like, from my (probably limited) experience: aliens or gods descend on Earth, killing the majority of the population while causing civilization to collapse. The survivors gain character sheets and classes; whereupon they have to fight monsters, explore deathtrap dungeons, and kill each other for the purpose of surviving another day and entertaining the gods or aliens watching them as a sadistic form of reality TV

Cradle is based in Wuxia/Xianxia (Cultivation Novels), in which the hero cultivates his spirit, fights against oppressive rival gangs noble clans, and journeys to ever more powerful locales

which as a description of any individual story is about as useful as "The Hero's Journey", so don't worry about what tropes Cradle does or does not follow

I’d also say that Cradle is one of those series where it takes a couple books to get going. The first two range from alright to fine but it’s at Blackflame where it really gets great

I wanted to like Traveller's Gate, but I think it really suffers from a few different issues. One of those being that Simon is probably not the best main character to have followed. Compared to Lindon, Caldur, and Varic; he was a lot more passive and bland

TG all up to half way through TCV 7 || I have to say, even if this isn’t wights best work he does still do a pretty good job of writing this whole grey mess. Damasca and Enosh both seem to suck equally. Malachi and the other Damascan overlords seem to operate on some kill or be killed magical fealty to Zacareth, which isn’t an excuse necessarily but the Enosh grandmasters seem to be doing it for the love of the game. + if Valin is any indication incarnations coming back seems like an overall bad idea.||
