#Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Yes
I have the same gripe but I have a few different gripes that are a bit more for me but even those I can't complain a lot or I feel like a repeating parrot
QoL gripe for me it's definetely the menus
even though they're better now than on release they still have a lot of room for improvement on like, what should be basic features (such as what Mori said)
What I wouldn’t give for a basic text search to search in names and descriptions
Or to favorite certain ones on a per-character level
There’s plenty of good stuff one could do
But of course having only one UI engineer makes things challenging undoubtedly
Props to the one UI engineer for getting Lumina Sets together, that was a big W.
Yeah definitely agree
Will make it much more pleasant to experiment with builds
I’m increasingly looking forward to doing a counters only run on ng+ with no revives at some point
But it will be a while before I can make time for that
got em
E33 End? ||Decide the fate of the Canvas.||
||So if I choose Maelle, she stays in the Canvas but dies in the real world. But if I choose Verso, she gets forced back to the real world?||
||I mean, like Alicia, Maelle should be able to decide her fate... Right?||
That's the question
E33 End ||I chose Maelle and the Canvas||
||The song Alicia playing at the end was so good!||
Amazing game. I think this beats BG3 for me! One of the best games I've ever played!
Whaat Why do I see Korean names in the credits
When I replay this game, I'm gonna be a parry master!
E33 End ||So the little boy.. That was part of Verso's soul? That's how I interpreted it.||
||Should I go online and search what would happen if I chose the other ending, or shall I replay this game later and experience it myself?||
||There's a flag right before the last boss, it's pretty quick to experience it yourself||
||I think this is one of the rare instances where the villain, Renoir, was truly right||
|| I personally looked it up even though I did beat the game a second time shortly after the first time on another platform. I had to know ||
You know all those wild enemy animations?
And how they went incredibly hard?
That was their work
||It would be more fulfilling if I redid it though. I see this New Game+ option and it's very compelling!||
cool!
Welcome to the party! 🎉 It’s definitely my all time favorite game, having ousted Doom Eternal from the #1 spot
|| Have you done all the act 3 content yet? If not, I do recommend. There’s a really fun fight, particularly if you enjoy parrying ||
||Nope. There's a lot of bosses I skipped||
E33 End ||Dang.. I see a lot of people that chose the Verso ending.||
Indeed, here's one of them: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DSMcERWibzU/
Yesterday, “Clair Obscur: Expedition 33” was named Game of the Year at The Game Awards. With a total of 9 awards, the game has achieved a truly historic milestone.
Having my name engraved in the credits of a GOTY title and knowing that my animations live and breathe within Expedition 33 makes this a deeply proud and meaningful moment in my ...
Random Jenn / Ben / Kirsty Rider hilarity, no spoilers: https://www.instagram.com/p/DSfPGUDgPUy/
I've been struggling to find the words of how proud I am of the entire Expedition 33 team, so I channeled it into my first ever E33 animatic from @jenniferjenglish and @_alionabaranova Jingle Jam stream featuring @the_ben_starr and @kirsty__rider

Act 3 New DLC || Verso's Drafts || || Can somebody tell me what I am supposed to do here, I just can't seem to make the jump to the blue platform ever ||
||This time I even got the climb animation and I still somehow fell down ||
Did you see this one from them? It goes so hard https://www.instagram.com/reel/DRAfL06Daq1/?igsh=MTh1bWhwdzVjYmh1aA==
Expedition 33 X Avatar
I stumbled across Sylvans animation and instantly thought what if the Curator had Avatar the last airbender type powers. This gave birth to this animation, I feel like this is an homage to a bunch of inspirations I’ve consumed this year including demonslayer for that famous Tanjiro beheading Rui fight .
Had a lot of fu...

Act 2 ||Watching Jesse Cox fight the Dualliste and realizing I killed it so fast I didn't see almost any of its moveset xD||
I'm going to try to find all the doors next time
Is there a shorter version of Une vie a t'aimer?
Tho the actual search results are also hilarious. If you actually know nothing about the game and have made an assumption that there are 32 prior games then the internet will run with that.
Silly AI doesn’t know there are actually 67 previous games you have to play smh
Yeah only GameFAQs got this one right. 😔
prequel
im having a hell of a time
first the power cuts out when im about to start a fight
then when i relaunch the audio doesnt work
and now the game's bugged out just as i was about to win a fight and is stuck on an enemy's turn
...i restarted the fight and it happened again on the same enemy
...won that fight
doing a different fight with same enemy type
stuck on their turn again
apparently this is just a known softlock they havent fixed
huh after all this time?
quick, rescind all their awards
I miss this game already!
Act 2 ||Visage|| ||That fight went by, so fast. I might have to watch someone else do it to see all the mechanics xD||
^ ||Did you end up shooting the masks as they came out of the mirror?||
||I defeated it within a single turn of the first mask appearing xD, didnt even get a chance for it to come back around to my designated shooter
and i defeated the second part...really quickly also||
Also
Act 2 ||Im about ready to grab Verso and shake him like a ragdoll. Tell me your secrets!!||
||He's been nothing but honest and has neither lied nor concealed the truth not even once||
Yes, there is!

It's on the bonus album. I say "shorter", but only in that it's 7 minutes long instead of 11. This arrangement removes some of the mellower parts of the song and some of the repeated segments.
omg so good!
I'm watching moistcritkal fight this one boss and I realize how hard I was on myself because I literally did not dodge for the back half of the game
I only parried
When I heard this piece for the first time I just knew i had to try and sing it. We brought it up a few steps to make it really work and overall im quite happy with it! I hope you enjoy it. shoutout to @OCEUNSTUDIOS for the beautiful orchestration.

This is the way
So YouTube has been throwing a lot of E33 content at me naturally and I’ve been checking some out here and there.
I don’t watch let’s plays really, but this guy got algorithmed twice now and both have been quite entertaining. This is someone who apparently has mainly played shooters his whole life and seems to be a content creator for Destiny 2. So this may be his first RPG? Which does show in some ways haha

The biggest hater has been converted. GG
guys
How mamy times have you replayed this game?
I'm thinking of replaying because I rushed a lot
geeze, how many hours do you even have in this?
45?
I won't be replaying, but I've been doing literally everything I can
I have to check
coming up on 80 and I haven't even ended Act 3 yet

Act 3 ||I've been avoiding returning to Lumiere and doing all of the side content instead||
I suspect I'm a worse player as you as well TBF
it sounds like you breezed through some fights I struggled with
oh really?
I couldn't point to any specific examples though
hmm, is there something confusing with my answer? 😅
Nah I just like using that emoji
I'm getting recommended BG3 YT videos with E33 music in them and it's so odd!
I'm currently at 59.3 hours and i'm still in Act 2 xD
dang
8 stopped playing before the DLC on some 80 hours.
Although a good majority of those might have been on just one boss.
Now it is around 92 hours. But now having struggled with 2 of the newer bosses.
E33 DLC || Verso's Drafts || || Also because I couldn't find how to open the door despite getting the cake. ||
Act 2 ||Beat Sirene. Only content left for me is "Dangerous". One I don't have a good strategy for, another is genuinely crazy hard, and the last I could probably do but has an enemy that sometimes softlocks the game so I don't wanna deal with it till I can almost 1 turn wipe every battle.||
My current crazy speculation as of where I am in Act 2 ||Literally every person is actually a creation, and some of them are recreations of specific people from the group or family the Paintress was part of.||
What level are you?
Level? Uh...50 something?
That sounds about right for where you are
There are some areas that are available to you that you are not meant to do in Act 2
I feel like I"m almost at the point where i'll need to start like...redistributing my attribute points.
I just need more stronger pictos xD
Nah, hoard those reset thingies until you are done with the game
commit to your bad/uninformed choices
I didn't reset my points until I was already a man
I probably need to take a step back from the habit im in and actually reteach myself how to properly use some characters' gimicks
A gameplay question ||When a skill says "sets self-Health to 1" what does that mean? That it knocks my health all the way down to 1? Cause that seems crazy||
Gameplay || It does indeed knock your health all the way down to one ||

||I'm gonna have to go back over those skills cause that's crazy for a character i'm pretty sure doesn't have that strong a healing capability||
Gameplay || No need to heal if the boss is the dead! Also the skill does not remove any shields so that can also keep you alive ||
I might use Une vie a t'aimer as a new song that I play during epic moments in my books
I used "To Sail Forbidden Seas" before
I haven't finished the game and I'm at 137h
I am however nearly almost fully done with everything but the ending and the DLC
But since I refuse to do the fight I'm currently doing in any other way, it's going to take a while
I don't remember what my ingame file says though
I’ve played the game twice so far. 10 hours on PC, then I went to my gf’s place and had to keep playing so I bought it again on PS5 and then continued on PS5 until I beat it, taking it back and forth between my place and hers, then I beat the game on PC after I finished it on PS5 so I could do all the post game on PC.
I do want to do a NG+ run at some point. Definitely get the urge to play it again
Steam says I have 108 hours. My in game save on there the other day said I have about 80 hours I believe
And the PS5 I had 30-40 hours in the in game save
whaat
So you don't know the ending yet?
Nope
I don't think I'm happy with my build rn to do a NG+ so I'm thinking of redoing it normally
Crazy. It'll shock you
I doubt it, but hopefully you're right and I'll eat my words
I hope so too
anyways
I've been singing Alicia, and pronouncing Verso in french is so much fun
gahhhhh
Act 2 ||I got so close with Sprong but i missed two different parries that wiped both teams. oh well. come back when im stronger.||
There are very good buildcrafting reasons to do this but only in the Act 3 / lategame meta.
Act 2 ||Monoco on a Shield-spamming build using Cruler Barrier helps with this a lot.||
Speaking of Act 3 mechanics, E33 <mechanics> ALL ||People have gotten Lune with her new strongest weapon post-DLC up into the billions of damage with Elemental Genesis, on a short setup.
I think it's still lower than Maelle's peak on a single target but having 2+ targets increases both the total damage output (obviously) and also the amount that each target takes.||
Act 2 ||Monolith|| ||Inside Monolith|| ||What do you mean Expedition 70 made it here?? xDD||
oh no
||something about the battle arena in this zone is tanking my framerate||
Act 2 ||I think i've hit the point of no return for this act and now i'm stressing over whether i need to do more xD||
||You are not going to get locked out of anything!||
||Good to know, thanks. Sitting right at lvl 61 with my main squad and as pictod and luminad up as i think i can get||
...I don't know how to tag this
That's promising
Uh
Act 2 ||Post Final Boss of Act 2|| ||Epilogue|| ||Just started. WHAT WAS THAT. HOW, HOW GAME KEEP HAPPEN WHAT||
🍿
I can already tell i'm going to desperately need a sequel
oh god the game broke really bad
I literally could not see a cutscene cause every object in it broke
had to hard quit to make sure i didn't miss the cutscene
There's a lot going on here
Act 3 ||I don't know how I feel about still controlling Verso at camp during the act named after Maelle. I get there's probably reasons, it just feels...structurally weird||
That surprised me too
||Probably because of the relationship points||
Act 3 ||Esquie saved Sciel 😭 ||
Act 3 ||I am, so very confused||
||I finally looked it up. ...I guess I forgot to buy Gustave's stuff from them???||
Yeah, maybe
There's been so much good said about this game but it's not enough!!! I love it so much I can barely believe it. Gorgeous visuals, incredibly fun gameplay, a wonderful soundtrack, a wild plot with fun characters (I'm not done yet, about halfway so no spoilers please!) what more could you want?
Also, the theme is in my favorite key. Tiny thing,...
I might learn this!
Act 3 ||Flew around to uncover the map, but after 3 failed attempts at new overworld enemies, i and my headache are calling it for the night xD
I'll expedition later||
||Now to go watch Jesse react to the madness xD
Can't wait for him to feel simultaneously vindicated and flabbergasted like I was.
Was cool that I was right about everyone not being real. Did not expect the whole...inside a Canvas bit.||
Act 2 ||Watching Jesse fight Renoir is making me think I was definitely overpowered for that fight xD||
Act 3 ||Oh, I totally missed the dogs in the Epilogue, that's so cute||
I think I have a single bit of annoyance regarding something with the narrative and gameplay (very general) ||Pictos as a game mechanic don't at all match how the characters talk about pictos.||
Yes but that is because E33 gen || when they talk about Pictod they are talking about their magic in general.
Remember that some people imbue Pictos on their body, which is just a roundabout way of saying that they have magic (Lune's and Sciel's different powers.)
Even the weapon abilities are considered Pictos narrative wise. This is what Maelle means when she says that Curator upgraded her Pictos.
Gameplay wise they decided to not call literally everything in the game Pictos and gave a specific thing to be called Pictos. ||
ok I'm doing it
E33 replay!
E33 Prolouge ||I wonder how Gustave lost his arm||
||There's an Expedition Academy?||
The nevrons are going to be so shocked when they see me fight!
Prolouge ||So I think Gustave is 31 years old? He's going on the Expedition a year before his Gommage||
Prolouge ||Ohh. There was a statue of Esquie in the prolouge!||
Prolouge ||Ohhh. It was Lune that was playing the guitar at the beginning||
Would you have children in this world?
Act 1 music is so good
E33 All ||It seems that Verso was the one who left the message on the tree?||
||If he was going to help E33 find Maelle in the first place, why didn't he join them earlier? Why join them in Act 2?||
E33 All ||He didn't want to have to share with Gustave||
E33 All ||More seriously, he felt he needed some sort of grand gesture to convince the Expedition he was on their side, and the gesture he settled on was protecting them from Renoir.||
E33 All ||Fun fact: If you pay attention during the landing cutscene, you can spot Verso grabbing Maelle and running away with her. Presumably he's also responsible for Gustave surviving the blast that ends that cutscene.||
cool!
But parry 👉 👈
E33 All ||How do we see the Curator if he's trapped under the monolith?||
that resolves, none of my issue
it actually actively created confusion at the gameplay mechanics
I am not saying that what they implemented were perfect.
But I do think this comes from them overhauling both the story and the gameplay mechanics of the early design of the game.
E 33
Act 3 + DLC || Endless Tower || || Just when I thought that Duoliste was an actually doable boss. They pull out the second hidden phase. I had to find a different build with Verso around Simoso and I still lost because the one single grace I had before of them attacking the party singly so I can by luck parry and easy attack to survive, survive if they attack Verso then revive with Tints, revive with Line's ability.
And Blast them with some 12 million damage whenever Gommage is ready with Esquim and sacrificing 5 APs then Last Chance to give it the oomph it needs.
Other than that I was struggling with that fight, but now that it targets the whole expedition I don't know if I could do much against it.
This guy is just as bad as Chromatic Lamp master||
Same || the problem with Lampmaster is that sometimes it is showing that my turn would come first so I plan according to that only for Lampmaster to go first and then target the very member that was going to go next. ||
|| is there some mechanic that makes it cut turns sometimes? It happened with Revive Paradox based turn too. But I let that slide because perhaps it is because of some of party members died so it gaines some speed (that was my hypothesis for the hidden mechanic at least)
But sometimes it cuts turns when it was going to go after all my party members. For example, I had just come from a turn of both Lune and Verso and the turn wheel had shown the normal Lume, Verso, Maelle and then Lampmaster in the Turn order and so was finally Maelle's turn but Lampmaster just suddenly cuts the line and gets in to attack Maelle. I was not ready for that. I had planned the actions of all my party members by Maelle being able to use Gommage. ||
dlc || It definitely has some weird mechanic that gives it extra turns that don't show in the turn order. So does Duolliste, I'm pretty sure. From what I could figure out for Lampmaster, the color of the extra lives lamps indicate when it will get an extra turn ||
|| it definitely hurts much because unlike Duolliste where I could parry some of the moves but takes damage here and there so I could try to make them tankier.
But Lampmaster's attacks are too erratic and I have never been able to defend myself against them much. Even the self heal is somehow able to remove burns (and all these extra turn it gets) makes even a burn based builds near impossible to work with. ||
DLC ||Endless Tower superbosses|| ||Duolliste has two special mechanics: it does not take Break damage at all, and its second phase will get a turn after each player character gets a turn.|| ||Chroma Lampmaster can interrupt even Cheater turns to initiate its Plunge Into Darkness. Usually it 'leaping up' the turn order is because of a Slow effect wearing off and/or player characters' Rush wearing off, iirc.||
|| I think at this point I should just leave, If I am having this much problem with these two I don't think I could do Clea and Simon ( I haven't even visited them) Plus my B team is pathetically weak.||
I use neither mostly
From what I recall at least
But maybe I do and don't realise
I would take better notice next time.
dlc || I found Clea and Simon to be a lot easier than Lampmaster (since they are more vulnerable to overwhelming damage) ||
DLC ||Lampmaster was pretty easy for me. It neither has that much health overall, just 6 different small bars, and it doesn't do that much damage.||
|| yeah I guess I'll give them a go too sometime. But if new Simon even has half of the gimmicks he already had and then some more of the gimmicks like these guys here (even the exact someone of these might just be trouble)
I remember that I only defeated him with the Immortal Verso build by keeping Verso in the A team and then Maelle one shotting his rest of HP in B team. ||
||Even one of his attacks were one shotting my members.
Especially the explosive attack which targets all of them.
I was going fine, but by the 2nd broken and lamp and the last quarter of his 3rd life. All my Revive tints I used on Lune were finished so I had to do something else. Otherwise I was in a pretty good flow, although the fight was just a bit too tedious for me||
||That works for Divergent Star as well except you need to do more damage with both teams and his attack patterns are more dynamic.||
||Well you might want to try more survivable builds then.||
||How much HP does it have left for when the B team get called? ||
Lemme check.
||I think Expelled happens after he takes like 80 million damage.||
||And Phase 2 has only 116 million HP.||
|| Okay 36 million so I can't even rely on the Gommage for this. Gotcha.||
...game crashed
fun
||No as in the second phase has 116 million HP after you do the 80something to get there.||
Act 3 DLC ||Endless Tower|| ||And Gommage can definitely oneshot it. Case in point:||
I guess I have far less lumina points that I should have to do it.
Myax was maybe 15 percent of that
Yeah you basically need to fit that list there. That being said the actual target is 1/4th the number you see here so you do have space to leave stuff off (albeit less than you might imagine, because this is multiplicative stacking).
How is the DLC? I know nothing of it
I'm thinking of playing it after my second playthrough when I have a good build
How do you even access it?
it's a new zone in Act 3 (location) ||near lumiere||
Act 1 ||"First hit dealt and taken deals 50% more damage"||
||Hmm. I don't think I'll use this||
hey, could you add "replay" to your tags? especially if you're commenting on foreshadowing
other approaches could be like "act 1 + all"
I have been using them when appropriate
Act 3 ||Reaches Boss|| ||Yo Alicia got hands||
||I feel bad for every Nevron i've ever fought||
Now this, this is just evil
Act 3 ||Maelle Final Relationship Conversation||
Good conversation to have
I'm having so much fun with the combat
I understand more of each character's abilities this time around

E33 All ||Omg is it even possible to beat Glgra when we first meet her?||
I've been practicing the song Alicia and I'm getting pretty good at it!
Such a shame my voice isn't how it was before
How do stains work when Lune uses her Aim?
I can't believe I missed this whole area in my first run!
What do you mean how do they work?
I shot the enemy a few times and I noticed that I generated a different stain each time
Wondering how that worked
hmm
I looked it up and I think it's a weapon skill?
Yep, there's a weapon that has a chance to generate a random stain on free aim
Christmas, I guess spoilers ||https://fixvx.com/expedition33/status/2004195873832714587||
peak videogame
E33 All ||The whole plot reminded me of the movie Inception a bit||
...
Act 3 ||Dark Arena|| ||Only getting a single shot at Golgra here is insane. I, do not like this.||
Act 3 ||Weapons All|| ||Decided to look up a list of weapons has i had a cool idea for my squad and wanted to see if it was supported, and yall, why in the world dont Verso or Monoco get Void element weapons? Maelle gets two gosh dangit.||
||Is Esqiue riding on top of François? 😆||
Man, I just can't shake the rust off for this DLC
I'll just put the health on normal and steamroll everything
Act 1 ||I wonder if the Play First Picto works on bosses too||
It does for most of them.
||I meant First Strike Picto, sorry||
Act 1 End ||NO! GUSTAVE!!||
||WTF||
E33 All ||So here I think Painted Renoir tried to make Maelle go out of the Canvas? But we hear the real Renoir and Aline talk here, and it seems that Renoir made her stay in the Canvas||
Tomorrow comes!
Everyone I've recommended this game to has been gobsmacked by just the end of the Prologue.
Goddamn does this game have a strong start.
I mean it has a strong middle and strong end yes but I love how I never have to say "oh well you just hafta get past the first 5 hours and then it gets good". It's just good.
Patch 1.5 ||oh no, everyone is edgy. I cannot run this, by they kinda look good actually 😅 ||
|| I am just glad there are some actually Good hair variety for Monoco now||
||This general getup looks weird as heck but I'll give it a pass because Lune looks gorgeous 🥵||
E33 All ||"I'm really sorry I didn't arrive sooner" says Verso.||
|| I think it looks the most good on Maelle. Especially that half black half red thing they have going on. Looks straight out of Metal band member. ||
Act 2 ||So many dead Expeditioners.. Why are there so many?||
||I guess they did mention that the numbers lessened as the years went by. And it seems likely that they sent great numbers of them at the beginning when there was still hope and memories of before the Fracture.||
Omg I have Energizing Start I, III, and IV, but don't have II! That's so annoying!
The same as me
Yes we seem to have a lot in common when gaming
Act 2 ||The best thing we can do for these white nevrons is to.. help them and kill them afterwards.. right? For the Exp?||
E33 All ||I'm kinda glad I started this game later than others. I literally had no idea there was an Act 3, and I was so shocked!||
Actual answer tho it's revealed in Act 3 ||Help them and don't kill them unless they ask.||
DLC ||Worth it for the amazing run animations.||
That one is actually just harder to find than the rest. They are at least in natural path if progression.
They sure are something
Patch 1.5 ||So what is in this patch? I've beaten Osq, opened the birthday party gate, got the new mime and a couple of chromatics... I need to get the gestral kid to move off the diving platform, but I forgot what it wants. I think new Endless Tower levels? What else?||
||Yeet the child.||
gl hf
full game ||I don't want this life...||

Maybe... I don't do this...
||I feel pretty good about being able to do Duolistes eventually. Maybe Clea. Chromatic Lampmaster felt so chaotic. And I am not putting myself through another Simon||
Welcome to the Chad Corridor, where all the bosses are gigachads
photo mode wtf, hide that UI when I am pressing the "take screenshot" button!
I'll go retake these
honestly i think i'm going to do new game+ before i touch the new stuff
if i'm going through the effort of re-teaching myself the game, might as well do it from the beginning
|| Tbh for me lampmaster was harder than new Simon phase 1. I just don’t have my team built to be able to deal damage to phase 2 currently ||
Yeah, I think it's just been too long for me to relearn buildcrafting for these
Yeahhh I was feeling that way too initially. I ended up still rebuilding my main team. Have yet to do the backup team
I need more color of lumina
Is the DLC good? What is it about?
it's not a full DLC, it's a patch they dropped the night of the Game Awards
it adds a new End Game area (||Verso's Drafts||), and several new pictos, weapons, and skins
and all the QOL I'm sure you've already been enjoying
I would say it's definitely more on the whimsical side of things
it's not Big Serious Lore
It’s very fun imo
I do love these
Act 3 ||Flying Manor|| ||Beat Clea...annoyingly Lune got nommed by one of her ghost Bourgeons so Lune didnt get the xp :/||
||Also absolutely hilarious for it to give only like...maybe 10k chroma for such a hard fight when every pictos and weapon now costs mininum 80k :/||
Yeah, the economy gets a little weird late in the game
Act 3 ||This lighthouse snake can [censored for broadcast].||
||Yup its timing is just very weird and even the movement is a bit janky as the visuals crowd being able to see it.
These are the worse parts and not the lamp trials mostly because I can just be done with them (but they are hella annoying and if I misremember them by even a little then my whole run is ruined.
There were many times when I failed a trial 1/5th of the way to the fight I just abandon the battle. ||
Redistributed points, upgraded weapons, ate that sucker for lunch
I feel weird about the difficulty of this game cause every boss i see people talk about being super crazy hard i just kinda...like it's hard, but not "took me 10+ attempts" hard
maybe like...4 at most?
Helps when you clear the map and get ahead of the level curve
Well that's if you're playing to win and using all the tools at your disposal, which a lot of people don't.
Lot of folks live the "im gonna parry or im gonna DIE" life, and die a lot.
Which is how I expect Brandon to play when (not if, when) he eventually plays this game.
im sorta playing like that xD
Act 3 ||I have Verso using a sword that prevents him from healing but starts him at S. If I just don't get hit then I'm always using his strongest moves xD||
||If your Verso has more than 1 HP he's playing it safe😛.||
ive been tempted...
I mean if you’re not playing with all characters always at 1 HP and never dodging, only parrying, are you even playing E33?
-# Yes. The answer is yes. No gatekeeping here
Act 3 ||I think I have...the Fountain, Chosen Paths, Renoir's Drafts, another place I can't remember the name of, dlc area, Endless Tower, and...3 overworld bosses plus one or two overworld spots left||
||Oh, and Flying Cemetary||
Would you like some direction on priorities?
I've been hitting zones based on when it no longer says danger and hitting the overworld bosses every so often if they don't beat me silly in the first round
so i'm good, i'll get through it. most of the time consumption comes from just...the getting places
Speaking of priorities in an amusing sense
Act 3 ||Watching Jesse Cox's LP, his chat told him to do Flying Manor before the final boss. He got to Clea, got wiped super crazy hard, just gave up on even trying to do it, was complaining a lot about not having enough health or speed recently.
The man's still running lvl 13 pictos XD
Brilliant troll on the chat's part to send him after Clea when he's bad at parrying.||
E33 all + DLC || I have to say that while Verso's Drafts seems like an area to be done at the end game. I think it is balanced in the way to do it before some of the Endgame fights and area like.
It is better to visit the place before Renoir's Drafts for sure and some of the 10th Stage of Endless Tower.||
Does anyone know if having a crit rate above 100% does anything? i cant find people that agree nor can i find someone whose done comprehensive testing
Never tried messing with crit rate over 100 specifically but from other damage testing I’ve done damage is consistent once you have at least 100% crit rate and I never noticed any changes when changing pictos around.
And I’ve never seen anybody with the really big damage numbers talk about it
so I’m like 99% sure it doesn’t do anything
alright
Above 100% is the same as having 100%, it just means you always crit. There's no Warframe-ass multilayer crit system in this game.
that'd be broken
Act 3 ||Got to Stage 10 Trial 2 of the gauntlet in one go before hitting a snag||
E33 All ||I would love to be a Painter. I would create the most beautiful worlds!||
Started playing last night and thankfully I've had almost nothing spoiled for me (I think). I knew the basic premise of the Expeditions going in.
What I was not prepared for:
[Prologue] ||"The Paintress will soon awaken." I didn't realize she was asleep or that we'd see her wake up and change the Monolith countdown. I knew what was coming with Sophie, but the preamble to it made it all the more gutwrenching. This society built around having a deadline on your life is SO interesting. It's such an intriguing play on a "if you knew you had a week to live, what would you do" sorta thought experiment. ||
[Act 1] ||The team being immediately massacred on the beach was such a striking moment. Along with the older guy who has somehow loved through Gommage (and who, to me at least, bears a striking resemblance to Gustave(!??). The absolute devastation and immediate demoralizing what phenomenal. They had such hopes going in but not actually knowing what's on the continent and they get wiped out like nothing. I literally told my wife that I wouldn't even have been disapppinted if the story had ended there lol.
I have just got Maelle in the party. The Curator seems like someone who is stuck partway through Gommage, given it's kinda constantly dissipating into flowers like the others did.
Really enjoying the game so far :3||
Nice! I am excited for you
E33 Act 2 ||I'm going back to act 1 spots to use the R1 ability, paint break was it called? Hopefully it's worth it||
||Oooo. This unlocks a whole new spot in Ancient Sanctuary||
Found Energizing Start II!
||Hmm. I swear I saw one of these paint spikes in Flying Waters ||
hmm
I wish the favorite mechanic wasn't separate for Pictos and Luminas
I just got this status effect called Bound which prevents the character from dodging, and I'm like: good thing I don't dodge!
Act 2 ||Chromatic Gault is really testing my parrying skills!||
Is Elemental Genesis good?
I have 26 skill points left for Lune and honestly Idk whether to use other abilites or not cause I'm happy with my build rn
It's real good if you can use it
It is really reliable good damage if you have good AP generation and gave her some good crits. Preferably maxed out.
Elemental genesis is great for multiple enemies but with high crit rate lightning dance is more damage on single targets
Extremely good.
The strongest non-Gradient AoE skill in the game.
(yes, with a proper build it beats Hell)
I ran EG for like a third of the game, once I could use it reliably
Another good thing is that it has great AP costs and with Elemental trick. It has some great set up reliability.
Could I get some tips for attributes spending on the first three characters?
Act 1 ||Gustave maybe vitality and defense, Lune same with some speed and then Maelle luck and speed with some attack?||
Act 1 ||IIRC, some people swear by agility maxing in the early game to get more turns. IIRC, I went deep into Might, but it doesn't scale well towards the end, so if you do that you'll be respeccing eventually.||
Act 1 ||The other main strat is to just dump points into whatever your weapon scales off of so you get a blend of raw damage and other stats, but your scaling will change from weapon to weapon, so...||
^ ||When I was starting off, someone said Luck, and I leaned pretty heavily into that, and it worked. I think it doesn't super matter||
Some kind member in this chat suggested that I should focus on Vitality and Agility early game!
I think I'm kinda okay throwing stuff at the wall as long as it's not unreasonable to respec multiple times later on. I know I have some items for it now, but I am an item hoarder 😅
My recommendation for most of the early through mid, maybe even late is: ||About 20 vit, 15 luck, 47 agility, dump the rest in might. for every character.
those are like, rough places where the benefits from putting points in started to slow down.||
||When you hit the lategame super hard stuff, then you gotta actually like, care more about scaling and stuff||
||Though if you find yourself getting hit a lot, you might want more vit||
Oh im near end game and I have like...almost 50 of them still hoarded after respeccing everyone xD
This is great to hear! Thank you :)
Also nice knowing about those soft caps. Gives me something to aim for!
diminishing returns would be more accurate
luck probably has the steepest drop off of all of them it's wild
True but it does reap them off by giving you benefits for speed or defense with each extra attribute point.
My final builds at level 99 ended with everyone having 99 in 2 stats, and 33 in the other 3 stats.
The 2 stats were whichever ones their selected weapon scaled with, and the weapons were selected for their abilities.
Act 2 ||He Who Guards Truth With Lies||
E33 All ||I wonder why Renoir created the Axons||
All ||There is a moment during Reacher when Maelle talks about it briefly, about how Renoir paints to... I forget what she says, but it's a bit like he paints to tell stories, to convey meaning, to reveal, to inspire. Each axon represents both how he sees his family, and also what he wants for them. Alicia is afraid of heights, so Reacher is massively tall, but Renoir also sees his younger daughter as someone who excels, who reaches for the sky||
||As Verso sums it up nicely, "He just wants you to fly."||
Act 2 ||How did E70 even get inside the Monolith?||

All ||im trying to remember if there's anything special about that year and the best i have is it's when Maelle's parents died||
I've shared a few video essays and lore videos, if you want to go trawling through the channel's history
E33 All ||I had literally no idea what Renoir was saying here. Now I finally understand||
||Paintress time!||
E33 All ||I want to do all of the Act 3 stuff before the ending, but I am very curious to know the other ending||
Act 3 ||Stage 11 Trial 1 can kiss my whole entire ass. They've applied this stupid pink haze over all 3 enemies that's the same color as the background so I can't bloody see them||
Act 3 ||Every so often I poke at the Duolliste fight and I'm just...god this requires perfect parrying||
||That one came with the 1.5 patch, along with all the other secondary canvases, and they are all the pinnacle challenges of the game. It's where parry gods go to live - or die 😛 ||
Act 3 || Unlike most other 1.5 bosses Duolliste can actually be beat with 0 dodging and 0 parrying! (there’s a joke here about the French and cheese but I’m not funny enough to come up with it) ||
||Does it involve Auto-Death explosion? xD||
|| Auto-death was involved in my strat! ||
DLC superbosses ||Duolliste was the first of the new bosses that I cleared. I did it before getting any of the new gear from the actual DLC zone, or updating my builds for the patch. Basically I got to phase 2, then while learning the moveset everyone died and I ran out of Revive tints... but I really, really learned the rhythms to the point where I was just sitting there in an untouchable parrying trance with only Sciel alive (that too on a support build with none of the soloing-related luminas) and decided eff it, we'll just keep going, with a damage strategy of just building up Sun Charges until Gradient 3 was available then entering Twilight and firing off End Slice.||
Overall the fight took over an hour and 1063 parries but the boss died on that attempt. Not how I normally play, lol.
The other superbosses of course I did after going to the actual DLC zone and coming back with a bunch of new gear and updated builds so I never had to do anything like that again.
So... Act 1 ||So far for me there have been two seemingly friendly Nervons that have little quests attached to them. I went ahead and did the quests... then murdered them. Should I not be murdering them? 😅||
If you want that answered ||It is not the optimal outcome for their little questline but it's not that consequential.||
Ohhh ||Oops! Is the outcome mainly "feel good" or is it mechanical or result in a unique reward? Depending, I coukd see myself quickly starting over since I'm only a few hours in at this point 😅||
It is primarily a mechanical reward.
It is ||100 color of lumina that you receive in Act 3||.
Hmm. ||So not terribly unique? Like a thing I can get another way?||
It is farmable but farming just takes a while. If you're already a ways into the game then the time cost of restarting makes it already not worth it.
It's also only really relevant if you want to go fight strong optional bosses in Act 3.
||You can still get it. There are more of these white nevrons, and what mattes at the end is whether you kill or spare more than half. I don't remember how many there are, but you can get away with a couple of murders||
I will want to do that, but if it's farmable another way then that would be my preference to restarting. Thank you for the info :)
Even better - thank you!!
...
Act 3 ||Simon|| ||Is it possible to avoid his move where he sends you to 1hp??||
||Is it more than half? Wild, I kept seeing it was more than one.||
Nope.
I could be wrong
||Me who starts the fight at 1hp anyway:
||
I MKB'd it!
I don't touch controllers!
-# and I pay the price
Though in this case I don't think it matters much
Ill roll with controller for nostalgia sake
Helps that the last 3 games I played were controller games xD
also...I see...so this is the music I heard for 30% of TGA
it is indeed a strong intro (Im still in the menu!)
It's a very hangoutable menu
well... time to hit that new game button. Always exciting!
Welcome
Also I just went in into my fight and did a few tries and I've noticed my save says 85h
but steam says 138h
Yeah, it do be like that
the 1.5 patch notes said they fixed it, but not retroactively
Mine is also off by like 20 hours
60h is off by a lot
IIRC it was almost definitely caused by wipes
because a wipe just loads your last autosave, so the playtime counter wouldn't tick up
huh
(The introduction of the "Retry fight?" prompt probably changed things a little, but there'd probably still be a desync if you quit between attempts)
Prologue || I was gonna remark on how very jrpg of them to put that trash can right at the beginning and when you interact with it, game says it's just a trash can. Then near the harbor I ran into another interactable trash can, and this one is glowing suspiciously...lo and behold, there's a dude in there and he gives me an item! Now I wanna go back to the start to see if there's anything in that other one
(I won't) ||
very jrpg
So about that
WHAT
Oh yeah, I had heard plenty it had jrpg in its dna, but that was oddly specific, and very funny!
also Prologue || Just got humbled by a mime 😌 ||
Yep! || There's a trash can a bit before the lady playing guitar, if you interact with it a bunch (each interaction the dialogue gets suspiciously more insistent that it's just a trash can) a dude will start talking to you
||
||It's not a missable item at least||
Act 3 ||Simon|| ||Making some more attempts and this is making me feel like I just don't understand how to play the game xD Like, it's not just getting the parries (which let me tell ya, those light speed attacks are faster than i can press the button), I feel like i'm not building character damage right||
||Simon is, by far, the hardest boss in the game until you get to those 1.5 uberhosses||
||Is it possible to go beat the main story then come back here without doing NG+?||
Ok, I know I said I'd play till 4 AM, but my sense of self preservation is speaking louder, I'll cut it off at the beginning of Act 1 😬 . I want to keep playing, I'm certainly intrigued, but I'm not 15 anymore. I can't just sleep for 8+h from whichever time I go to bed, I know I'll be wake by at least 8 AM and feeling like crap if I sleep only 4h xD
also, weirdly enough, what seems like it's going to be a limiting factor to how much I no-life this on my days off will be my freaking headset? Wearing it for long stretches of time just starts feeling uncomfortable :/
Yep, you get a save just before the end
||Then bye bye simon xD
I, cannot, parry that speed of light attack and i don't feel like bashing my skull open trying to learn it when there's more game I could be playing||
That's 100% fine as far as I am concerned, I did the same
||And even then I couldn't be bothered to fully learn the fight, and just looked up a one-shot build||
Act 3 dlc ||Running around Verso's Drafts is putting such a huge smile on my face. I really needed this.||
alrrighty. think imma wrap up the story now
I was also MKB'ding (as I couldn't get a Nintendo Controller I did have to work to on my Laptop) my way through the Act 1 of the game but had to stop because I was starting to feel the response in my 'W' button of Keyboard starts to lack response as much.
Thus I had to figure out a way to quickly get it to work or else I might be ruining one of my Keys. (This game makes you walk forward a lot. Especially since you are changing the camera with mouse/right analog. )
Yup Act 3 || Main Story fights in Lumiere are balanced in the way to be fought directly after end of Act 2. You are supposed to be at least lvl 55 to 60 there.
Meanwhile Renoir's Drafts makes you level up to 88 or near that. ||
|| yeah weirdly despite Verso's Drafts being DLC content it is balanced in a way to be fought at level 68 to 77. Definitely earlier than Renoir's Drafts a content that was always in the game.||
Act 3 ||Lumiere|| ||Final Fight|| ||Why is it making me choose ;_;||
||Does the backup save the game makes mean i can come back here and see the other choice if i want?||
yes
E33 All ||That ending choice is, it's so weird i guess.
The entire emotional crux of it is solely about the grief of the Dessendre and Maelle's life...
They never once bring up during that whole sequence whether every other thing in the Canvas deserves to live.||
||Yeah, that's a common critique||
||Like, it's definitely very important, and feels intentional, but it's...weird how sidelined everyone else is when our inciting incident is the grief of the people that live here.
Beautiful game still, just...
Like Id like just a bit more from the others. If i understand the metaphysics of the world right then i think there's an interesting conversation to be had about like, how itd be a sacrifice from Maelle/Verso's soul to keep painting new life||
||Yeah...I feel the balance and scaling is...borked for it to work like that. I just one-shotted my way through everything including the final fights||
||In a way, I think the story is about the Dessandre family, and how they deal with grief; the people of the Canvas are... an important background detail that informs Maelle's and Verso's worldviews, but the game is still about Maelle's and Verso's worldviews, it's not about all the rest||
||It feels weird then for the story to focus so heavily on the people of the Canvas as being the emotional hook that gets you invested if...ultimately the story doesn't care about them||
||
Common critique; I try not to think about that too hard||
xD
||Like the game sits at a comfortable 9/10 for me. It's just an odd choice, one that i've been feeling coming since i noticed the rest of the cast spending a heck of a lot of the cutscenes just...standing there, staring xD||
||I do feel like the story may have hit me more if I'd gone to Lumiere immediately...but there's like, so many other bits of story you just don't get if you do that that I feel is important for the emotional weight also||
||Perhaps. I found that for myself a lot of those other things were separate conflicts. I am endlessly fascinated and charmed by Clea, but her stuff doesn't intersect with that final choice in any way beyond showing you someone who absolutely would've torched this canvas ages ago (and kind of has been trying to, honestly)||
||It was mainly the painted Clea and Alicia stuff, like...I felt that was important for Verso and Maelle||
||In retrospect, working to get everyone's relationship score maxed out is hilarious considering how little those relationships or characters mattered to the decision making at the end||
||I guess where I sit, is I find it very intentional that every member of the Dessandre, including the painted ones, are almost horrifically selfish. I guess I mainly just wish the rest of the cast got one last chance to argue for the sake of themselves, even if the point is Maelle, Verso, and Renoir ultimately don't truly care about them for their own sake.||
...
Act 3 ||Lumiere|| ||I just learned you get a perfect catalyst from the trash can man if you talked to him in the prologue, now that's just mean xD||
||brother got recycled||
...wait, huh
Act 3 ||Lumiere|| ||Renoir fight|| ||Im watching Jesse play and his chat mentioned he somehow missed a cutscene during that fight, which, what?? Cause like, if he missed it then I also definitely missed it xD||
...omg
Act 3 ||Final Fight|| ||Verso and Maelle have a conversation as the fight goes on? Geeze...being able to miss all this on accident cause you leveled up too much i think is a legitimate problem||
||Did you see Aline join in?||
||I saw that one and so did Jesse. he's gonna do that fight again to see what he missed and get the other ending so ill see||
🤣
E33 All
||https://twitter.com/versophd/status/2006234678097756452?t=EPmhFUHqblOtwGu-WJ04XA&s=19 ||
sciel: do you ever want to talk about your emotions, lune?
lune: no.
verso: i do.
sciel: i know, verso.
verso: i’m sad.
sciel: i know, verso.
E33 all || What is weird is that we have 4 dialogues with Sciel and Lune that is just about Verso not talking. ||
just hang out in the menu for a bit as I start todays sessions and you know what else is funny? I was watching TGA at like 2x speed, so the music sounded like this crazy ballad, not the sombre-ish music it's supposed to be xD
I am stuck in this same thing, everything else I can parry, but unlike you I am stubborn as hell, so I keep trying.
I will get it, I know I will
probably doing more than 2 attempts per week would help but y'know
details
Probably
It's maintenance workout
uh-huh
sure thing
Act 3, lmao
Act 3 ||Post Renoir's Draft || ||Abyss|| ||I almost got the full speed light attack!||
I guess that was a fluke 😭
nvm i almost managed again
I feel I'm close to a break through
||I am desperate to figure out how to get numbers like those
If it requires grinding out more lumina i'm probably gonna take an extended break. i really wish the game had a mechanic like Metaphor or others where if an enemy is a lot weaker than you you can just poof it without starting a battle||
||That was Maelle's 3* gradient attack, and the reason it's so high is just because the enemy has so much health, and I assume it's % based||
||I have done 5 mill counter just now though||
none of that was enough
||Nope, it's flat damage. You must've had some stacked multipliers||
oooh
||What? Everything i've read about it says it's percentage?||
||I sure did have a bunch of them, but i thought it was % since it's so high||
Oh, well, I am full of it then
Ah, I should specify ||That was a "kills weak enemies", and not the "otherwise it does extreme damage". I assume if the %hp left isn't low enough then it does a flat amount of damage, however in my case that was a kill number||
|| kills weak enemies means it one shots non bosses, it does the same the amount of damage to bosses regardless of how much health they have, current or max, it’s 50x your basic damage I’m pretty sure ||
I see
||okay, I've noticed I keep dying now to the same specific attack about 6 or 7 parries in, that's good, at least, that I am consistently parrying 2/3 of it||
Correct, it's a 50x base mult (base is your Attack Power from your weapon and stats), then x3 from Virtuose, and the rest is Luminas.
That's basically how every skill in the game works.
Attack power * skill mult * character's core mechanic effects * luminas * luminas * luminas... everything doing multiplicative stacking.
Luminas are apparently split into two types based on wording
Ones that are a percentage of base, and ones that are a percentage of a total
Yeah and there’s also weapon effects. The || 4.2 billion || number is with the dlc weapon which || gives Maelle another 3.5x multiplier which was not needed lmao ||
Yeah the weapon mechanics are all core character effects since they're all tied to the same character. ||That number will technically have Verso' weapon effects too from the one that gives the Rank bonus to teammates instead of himself.||
||Which one?||
||Esquium||
||How's that one give a 3.5x modifier? It gives a max of 200% doesnt it?||
|| I didn’t use that Verso weapon (the number is from my own gameplay) since I’m somewhat sure it’s currently bugged and doesn’t give the buff ||
||It gives +50% for each AP consumes, so +250%, so 3.5x||
||...i swear i can math||
Early Act 1 || Why are mimes so damn powerful? (I know why, there's a good skit about it). The game seems to make me want to believe that the final boss (whether that's the Paintress or not, if I had to guess based on my jrpg lore it should not be, there should be a 'hidden' eldritch final boss, but I digress) is just going to be a mime. I think I answered my own question, the Paintress is obviously being controlled / coerced by a mime god. ||
Obviously
we so back
How'd you figure that one out?
massive brain
its 2 am, ... lets start 2026 in style
DLC weapon || wouldn't it be 2.5? As there are only 5 APs consumed. ||
Oh
||I believe it's additive? (Base * 2.5)+Base = Base * 3.5||
Oh heck, I was just reminded Jacob Geller did a video on E33 I can watch now
🖐️ 😐 🖐️

This is the music that plays in the Mime/Petank fights in Expedition 33. It's quite fun to listen to and even more so to play on guitar. But oh boy was this a challenging piece to arrange. That guitar solo in the second half of the song is FAST, and learning it was quite the undertaking. I had to listen to it over and over again at a slower spee...
Time to Clair, and to Obscure
Act 1 post Flying Waters || Aw man, I didn't realize you could shoot in exploration mode, so I moved past the first locked treasure thinking I'd eventually loop around to get to the lock on the high ground ... I only realized you can shoot those when I found the 2nd locked thing... and that was at the entrance of Flying Waters... anyone care to tell me what I'm missing and if it's worth the trouble of tracking all the way back through FW and... back out again? ||
uh, according to google its a Chroma Elixir Shard
seems pretty good
ah, running back wasn't that bad, and I ran back from a farther flag than I could've
Right, I forgot how tight this prologue was https://youtu.be/J3AUxMzgFiE
A slow and intentional longform Let’s Play of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. This is a story-rich first playthrough where I take my time exploring, reacting, and (probably) crying. Welcome!

(Her playthrough was very good, she picked up a lot of stuff before it gets explained properly.)
End of Act 1 / Beginning of Act 2 ||Wow lots went down! We have names of a particular antagonist, Renoir. I have some apprehension towards a particular advancement.
But before that, a... cultural question? Are the Gestrals and Esquie supposed to be funny? Or just whimsical? Because I find both to be quite grating and unfunny. Gestrals are like minions and Esquie is weird for weirdness sake, it seems to me. Unsure if there's just a cultueral difference in humor and it's not "for me" or if I'm missing something lol.
Okay. So at the end of Act 1, Gustave is killed by Renoir and Maelle is saved by Verso (who Esquie had mentioned was his old friend). I had dread going through this whole section because of Maelle nightmares that she was going to be killed, but I didn't fathom that Gustave would be! Which is an amazing, gutsy move to kill off your main character!
...
If it weren't immediately dampened by replacing him with what is essentially a mirror... both visually and mechanically (insofar as I see the Pictos, Lumina, and equipment transfers to him, though I can see he does have some different abilities). I thought it'd be so cool to switch the "main" focus to one of the girls, Maelle probably. But we have to have a male de facto leader it seems? It feels kind of cowardly. And maybe I'm misreading this because I haven't actually played in Act 2 yet and it plays out in a way that is more satisfying than that.
AND why are the three most prominent male characters all basically identical? Lol. On the beach I literally thought Renoir was an older version of Gustave given how similar they look. And then they had the audacity to introduce a THIRD character who looks almost the exact same! It's so funny!
All that said. I like Maelle, I LOVE Luna. I haven't had enough time with Sciel yet, but she seems sweet. The Curator is spooky and interesting in how he and some other background characters we've met seem to be "stuck" in the middle of thr Gommage or something.
||
||I definitely find gestrals and Esquie to be both funny and whimsical||
||I also love learning about the previous Expeditions! The world and set up of the whole conflict is SO cool.
The fights are also fantastic and I love how you're given just the right number of fights to learn and areas enemies, their mechanics, prep for the boss, and then execute. Not too many, not too few. It feels super well balanced in that way. LOVE finding throughlines in characters abilities. Sciel in particular I'm vibing with right now. But that's me every time a new character is inteoduced :)||
||Also ill be honest, i do not understand anyone ive seen that thinks Gustave, Renoir, and Verso look identical xD||
|| I personally find them funny. Though tbf, I would say some of the other great moments with Esquie are still yet to come.
Though the moments we had with him in his Cave and Francois were very funny.
I definitely agree that being shoved with Verso who got everything Gustave had to be a slap at the beginning of the Act 2.
That is all I'll say for now. ||
Oh I've met enough people that thinks so. Myself included
yall make no sense to me xD
||The detail on the characters models is pretty good thanks to UE5, the variety is not. That's one of the aspects of the limited team size and budget.||
||All three mentioned characters have very different face shapes, nose shapes, hair styles, etc||
||I think they have pretty similar face shapes (at least Gustave and Renoir, I'll admit Verso has a thinner face and looks a bit different). But they're all three white men with dark hair and facial hair with similar builds and similar enough faces. At least to me! ||
||Different people notice/rely on different aspects more or less, and I think the actual body shapes in particular are limited. But I'm not really the best person to discuss it in detail as it's all not something I'm usually very observant about to begin with.||
||Gustave has a triangle face, Verso a diamond face, and Renoir a square face
like im genuinely having a hard time seeing how they could be seen as identical||
|| I would have said Gustave had square-ish face too. While Verso I could believe to be just a thinner Gustave.
Before the exposition about Expedition 0 by Verso at the end of Act 1.
I was sure that Renoir was^ just Gustave from an alt timeline and so was Alicia the Maelle.
While Verso was from a 3rd timeline where there is no Maelle.
And Renoir's talk about killing Gustave being a mercy being related to something worse happening in future if he is kept alive and Maelle is the one to do something bad in the future which is why Alicia is the one to point to her and Renoir says that it is her fault and she doesn't even know it yet.
||
maybe im just delusional idk i feel like it all the time
Act 2 ||I thought Renoir was a older Gustave when I first saw him in the beach where he massacred E33. For a split second I thought that was why everyone was so confused.||
I've seen quite a few people jump to that conclusion in the moment, so there must be something to it; I don't see it though
Or perhaps it's that you're actually more observant, and struggle less with differentiating faces/people than many of us do 🤷
Yeah I struggle with faces a lot
Happy Décembre 33rd to you all.
I was gonna comment on this yesterday and forgot... Act 1 Flying Waters || I killed the optional troubador boss and uh... I still have no idea how their attacks work
. I just retried the fight a bunch of times. Could almost never get the dodges/parries right but eventually lucked into a kill 🙈 ||
🤔
Same goes for the women, I guess
Act 3 ||I've seen some talks about the similarities between Sciel and Clea too||
hmm
A lot harder than expected. I haven't learned a new piece in years
Oh this is good stuff

Merde!
Hmm, yeah, good vid
So hype
Whatever they do next is an instabuy on multiple platforms for me
They’ve earned my trust completely
New update stuff ||I finally decided to play all of new stuff. I did verso's drafts. Is the Simon in the tower new?||
Yeah
Oh no
im so bad at this game
That's what you said for Silksong at first too
Chroma is flowing!
Act 1 || Oh, the Lorien and Alice gestrals are so cute ||
yes, that is Lorien 😅
it's what I meant
and Alice does the vocals for a bunch of songs
E33 All ||Thought id go look up fun conversation about the story online...my god the Verso v Maelle discourse is mindnumbingly stupid.
Think imma stick to here and video essays xD||
E33 All ||It's still really funny to me that they possibly had no analytics on the ending choice and Jen Sved-Yen decided to just poll her Instagram followers instead.
||
Act 1 ||The Alice gestral is new too, she was just added in the Thank You Update.||
oh 😮
||Lorieniso is also Lorien Testard's Spotify header.||
Act 2 ||Just made it to Monocos Station and am getting my ass handed to me. I just messed with my Pictos to unlock more passives, but something I've done has made myself a LOT less survivable. All my characters die to a single of his hits 😅||
||You probably lost some bonus stat points||
General mechanics || What's the logic for weapons upgrading in combat? 🤔 . Doesn't seem to matter which weapon you have equiped, is it random, or do they all just get xp or something? Considering that there doesn't seem to be any reason to not just upgrade your preferred weapon at the Curator. Saving up materials I guess is pointless? ||
||It's dropping duplicate loot at a higher level than you own||
||certain enemies have a loot table or static encounters drop specific weapons, when you get a dupe, it levels to the level of the new drop||
||Equipment loot drops are fixed FYI, no RNG involved||
||this is also true for buying the weapon a second time from a vendor||
Ah, fair
ah
ok, then || dumping all my materials before I potentially find a weapon I like more is not necessarily the play, though the power gains are massive, I'll do it anyway xD ||
||You wouldn't happen to have equipped perilous parry have you?, also your equipped pictos make up over half your hp generally||
Ill keep 3 for a rainy day
||IIRC weapon upgrade materials can be farmed, at least up to a certain grade||
||No joke I didn't upgrade my weapons with materials until post game||
||basically, if you've played a Dark Souls, weapon upgrading works much the same way, (with the addition of the dupes as mentioned)||
||or until I had a weapon effect I wanted||
||the economy of weapon upgrading, that is||
I haven't, but I won't stress too much about it
Every tier of upgrade material except the very highest one is farmable iirc, it is very much a Dark Souls type situation.
HYPE
I'm either on point with the parries and do a fight hitless, or I'm complete garbage and miss every parry. There is no in between
That just means you got gud at reading certain kind of movesets and not on others.
Act 3 dlc ||Verso's Drafts|| ||Osquio's got hands. im too tired to try and understand how to play to beat him right now xD||
||He did feel a bit difficult to read. Fortunately my entire party is in their high 90s, so I just tanked most of it 😅 ||
||My party is also in their high 90s and die in two hits ;_;||

Interesting article about the structure of Act 3 ||https://www.gamesradar.com/games/rpg/clair-obscur-expedition-33-lead-underestimated-how-many-players-would-do-all-the-side-content-regrets-disappointing-people-that-wanted-a-challenging-end-boss/||
||"We weren't sure if our game was going to be that good," Guillermin says. "And if it's not, people may just want to see the story, and go directly to the end of the story. So it was a surprise for us [that] people were doing every single thing there is to do in the game before going to the final dungeon. We're happy about that, but we didn't see it coming."||
They did not expect Usha behavior lol.
I mean, I feel like just finishing the game is wild
My opinion is that they should've made the Act 3 ||character quests part of the main sequence||. There's some important context in there ||and the Reacher in particular is a big fully fleshed-out level||.
||I was genuinely surprised when all the Expedition collecting was done in a montage||
which is funny because most completionism people do it this way, vs the "only do the main story", not everyone obviously but it isn't uncommon behaviour.
Somewhere in act 1 || Why do they keep referring to this guy as 'white-haired man' if his hair is black??? ||
Act 1 ||It's kinda greyed, probably more so than anyone they've seen in a long time.||
he so fine
That's not what I see in game
is there a problem with my lighting settings?
No, you are right, the visual doesn't quite match
Act 2 || Whats this bs, I get discount Gustave now?? ||
Heh
Act 2 || Also in hindsight its pretty funny. When I sent that message asking about the white haired man I said "somewhere in act 1" while I was literally in the 1v1 fight against him, i.e. the exact end of act 1 xD ||
further rethorical observations || why do all these men have the exact same hair? I have seen they are capable of giving men other haircuts, so they are either trying really hard to red herring me or these dudes are all related?
-# they all also have the same weapon which idk if these weapon summonings are genetic or what XD ||
||Everyone summons their weapons, it's just a part of the magic.||
|| I mean the weapon type being summoned ||
|| Tbh, unclear what black haired man is summoning exactly, but it looked quite sword-like ||
wild, cause that is what i see in-game
|| To clarify what I meant by "weapon summonings being genetic", I meant what kind of weapon you get when you summon a weapon being determined by your bloodline. Which makes no sense, sure, but who knows, this game is very whimsical! ||
hmm
Act 3 ||Was Renoir inspired by the artist, Pierre-Auguste Renoir? His wife's name is literally Aline Charigot.||
I think since Soia is early in Act 2, maybe tag this differently
So he knows you are ahead
But maybe! I've seen people speculate on that
😭 😭
It's been forever since I saw Kon here
E33 End ||Verso's ending|| ||I didn't think I was going to play games for a while, so I searched up the other ending instead of finishing all of act 3 like I was planning to do.||
E33 end, Rhythm of War?||Very very sad. It does make me wonder how differently I would react to deaths in stories after actually experiencing the pain of loss Irl which I haven't so far. I had the same thoughts after reading Rhythm of War because I didn't react as strongly as other people did.||
E33 ending spoilers ||god I'm just thinking about how painful Verso's ending is, particularly Lune sitting in the portal accepting oblivion. After thinking it over I got struck by her speech to help Gustav all the way at the beginning.
"As long as even one of us stands, our fight is not over"
And so, as the very last living person in all of 33, and Lumiere, she sits down||
Act 2 early ||Renoir looks quite dark haired while Verso looks very grey-white haired to me which also did make me go, wtf?||
||idk if it's my own computer, but everyone's hair color is kinda weirdly shifting in cutscenes||
no I think the models is probably one of the places where it is most obvious it is in fact an AA game leaning into indie, that and the UI
idk why we're spoiling this lmao
I spoiled mine just because character names
I spoiled b/c you spoiled
yeah haha
E33 Act 3 ||Hmm. I was wondering why I didn't see the Verso magic cutscene during my 2nd playthrough. Turns out
you have to go to camp immediately after recruiting Monoco at Monoco's Station before you head into Old Lumiere.||
||Verso and Torso is the cutscene||
Same! || When budget Gustave comes in to save the day I was like "now there is a dude with (a strip of) white hair! "||
And yeah, same as Aviox there is some weird hair movement/lighting going on in the in-game cut scenes (but not the pre-rendered).
That said || black-haired man is still black haired in the pre renders, so
||
Same tags ||You just summed up how I felt about Verso from the start, hehe. I was like "Excuse me, my favorite character just died, how dare you just replace him like that."||
||I actually think the fact that he was swiftly replaced made the death much more emotional for me, because like, that's life, not replaced in the hearts of people who loved him but otherwise yes, just replaced, irrelevant||
E33 all (Act 3 stuff not safe for Soia and Usha) ||There's also the fact that this is exactly what Verso intended. The whole point was to force himself into the party as a Gustave replacement after letting him die. So he's a "replacement goldfish" if you will from both a Watsonian and Doylist perspective.||
not safe for me either
nope
Phew
I suppose it's not "all" because it wasn't about the ending, but better safe than sorry, just in case.
(I should play this game one of these days)
You know what, if the Steam Machine ends up being reasonably priced, I'll get one and the first order of business will be to get E33 on it.
Early act 2 || You know what the worst part about discount Gustave is to me? On the first night at camp you get teased with Rapture (Rupture?) lore if you talk to Lune, but we never get it! Wth, if you're going to give me an E0 dude, give me the lore dumps that come with it! ||
Fracture
Reading that made my mind go to "trouble rature". I got that "Lumière" brainrot in me. 😛
Act 3 + DLC || Does Draining Cleanse not remove Barbappa of Feint? I mean I guess it makes sense for balance purpose after all but I read somewhere that it does do that. But it doesn't for me ||
Act 3 Final Battle ||https://twitter.com/versophd/status/2009454282123432403?t=jM_oDNEkxYi5C8c93ypUsw&s=19 ||
^ ||someone once pointed out that he is vulnerable to burning damage too, and that's even funnier||
||...Funnier?||
||I suppose in a black comedy way, but I think it's kinda sad.||
this music really is good, I almost always sit in the menu for a bit when Im starting a session
yeah I love Alicia too
Game is mad tight
Act 2 + Silksong || Wow, they managed to provide a mini game worse than flea dodge ||
Which which?
|| The gestral raft game ||
Yes, everyone's favourite
Kon suggested to me that I put the FPS at 30 for that specific thing and it worked (for me)
But this was pretty soon after the game release
What's the reward for the 3rd one? If it's not something giga good I just won't do it, it's miserably unfun
e33 + silksong ||generally does not land minigames at all, i'd take every flea game over the gestral games||
rewards in these tend to be ||bathing suits||
big lmao
Skip it, you don't need to beat that guy for the Achievement.
I did get a || catalyst for the 1st one though, but yes, a cosmetic for the 2nd ||
2nd is all you need.
you don't need to, but know that I did beat it 😈
it sucks, but there is a trick to that makes it so much smoother
Act 3 ||I wonder if the similarities between Visages and the Scavenger - giant creatures who have and use masks - means anything...||
Act 3 ||Idr what the Fading Boy says about the Scavenger. It's a Clea creation, so maybe she was inspired by Visages? The echo of her in the resin lady mentions she makes her Nevrons to kill Aline's creations to honor Verso's own, so maybe the Scavenger is meant to be her also making an homage to Verso?||
||Yeah, maybe something like that||
Act 2 || oh no, there's another parry?
||
Act 3 all || After playing the whole game, I gotta say a hot take that there should be actually even more types of parries. (and yes I know I was just in the place Soia was where just the introduction of gradient parry/counter messed up all my senses but I still think the game could have been really had some dynamic ness to it in the enemy turn that wasn't just normal parry. Jumps and Gradient do fill that role but now I feel like there could have been 2 different sorts of reactions too (dodge not counting as it just feels like it is just a safer form of parry that you use if you can't master normal parry yet)||
ohh I get it now
time to do a little expeditioning I guess
I failed the first parry, inexcusable
Act 3 ||post renoir draft||||abyss|| ||Why does We Lost go soooooo hard||
||I ALMOST got the sword of lumiere attack down||
The harder the boss, the harder the music
||whoop I only missed the last attack now, I'm so close to breakthrough, then I'll only have to finish learning the light attack speed and I'll be set... for phase 2... and then idk what hell awaits in 3||
my controller freaking died like this... (same spoilers as above) At least it was during my own attack
Late Act 2 ||I have no memory of this scene: https://fixvx.com/Leonsdrafts/status/2010095129349239202||
Funniest scene in the whole game. The way Verso and Monoco were just egging Lune on to try it😭 You can tell they thought they were hilarious in this moment.
||Does this only happen if you try to beeline to the Monolith without getting the Barrier Breaker first?||
yes
Makes sense.
||I also missed the Verso getting cut in half scene in my playthrough.||
Things saved for an eventual NG+ I suppose.
time to itade nai
the world map music is also real good
||Yeah you get it if you go to the barrier at any point before getting the Barrier Breaker||
...discord why you do this to me
Same tags ||It's seriously one of my favorite tracks in the OST. Might even be third place.||
same
I've a mechanical question I had not considered til now, what counts as a turn?
Act 3 gen ||I'm here looking at Sciel's Fortune Fury and it isn't working how I thought it would? 🤔 ||
On other note, Act 3 ||post renoir's draft|| ||abyss|| ||I'm now consistently parrying the sword of lumière! And I'm almost having a breakthrough through the light speed attack, almost||
Elaborate
To expand on this ||it says an ally does double damage during one turn, I've used it on Maelle, it works normally, (or as intended), she does a crapton of dmg, okay. But then if I use gradient attacks with Maelle it no longer affects her skills after even though that should be the same turn?||
was on it
I've changed my strategy to count on this but 🤔 I don't get it
or rather, it hadn't even occured to me that's not the same turn
||gradient attacks trigger a bonus turn||
Why does that not show?
||There's some unintuitive stuff around how "play again" works, and I think gradient attacks hook into that - so the gradient attack takes one turn, and it just gives you a free one immediately. I suspect you'll find that if you use your free turn to do a "play again" move, it won't work, because you only ever get one freebie||
||anything else that triggers a second turn you can see on the left||
You are correct in your suspicion
It just do be like that
||i think the unintuitive part here for me is that when you do play again you can see the character icon being inserted on the turns on the left, which, along with the descriptions, makes it very clear it is a separate turn||
Pain
Probably just a little bit of technical jank
We've got this tech to make this thing happen, let's repurpose it for this other thing
It is two consecutive turns.
Clearly you are not a ||Cheater|| user. 😔
Nope
Act 3 ||Oh, dang, I never noticed that the ceiling of Renoir's atelier is also painted - seems like with Axons||
Act 3 ||The Manor|| ||That Canvas in the duplicate atelier taunts me. Feels like it should be dlc or something||
||I love cheating||
I just parried a full combo while looking down at the cat 😭
But I still can't manage to parry that one other attack
Bella is a pro gamer fr.
||There's also the fact that Lorien Testard deliberately left all the Manor tracks out of the soundtrack album, because he says he's saving them for something else. Hmm...||
Omg my monolith is shipping soon apparently
I need to figure out where I’m going to put that
itade nai time
E33 Act 3 ||I was doing some like 25 mill with Maelle's stendhal a few days ago and now I'm not passing the 11m, and I'm not sure what's the difference, obviously something in my build stacked up consistently every time and now it is not? 🤔 but what, I'm doing just about the same. I guess I'll have to go and check 😩 ||
||post Renoir's draft|| ||I think a whole lot of my enjoyment from this fight is having to start phase 2 every time and We Lost hits in and I'm in pure bliss while i get annihilated
||
||Are you remembering to Gambler?||
||I have empowering parry, I have immaculate but I'm not receiving any hits so that should still be there, and I do have warming up but this does generally happen in turn 2 so that is also consistent 🤔 I don't think I have anything else that could vary... she has greater powerful and Fortune Fury on her...||
||oh i also have at death's door since her health is usually 1 anyway||
I don't have it on
|| Maybe it's the Marked debuff? ||
shouldn't be 🤔
If you can take screenshots easily you might want to just snap a screen when you hit the counter to see the list of all the luminas that are triggering.
the counter is working normally
well I'm sure everything's working normally
the attack that's doing less is ||stendhal|| but because ||stendhal is just killing phase 1 in one hit I don't really get to see the lumina's pop up lol||
||and in phase 2 I don't get to stack up all the crap because I die to the light speed attack
||
okay, this is the furthest I've ever gone 😩
I'm in that "just one more try dammit" mode now
I should go be responsible
I closed the game 😌
Act 3 || Renoir's Drafts boss || ||Simon all || ||Nsf Usha || || Boy Usha has yet to experience the biggest plot twist (gameplay wise) that would ever be hit.||
You’ll get this Usha! Eventually!
I got the one attack parried! (Once)
Parry it!
I have a guess at what this says but won't click 😔
just did this 3 times in a row, now imagine i can do this with my main team instead
aaaaaaaaaah
Act 3 ||post renoir draft|| ||I got him to be red||
||the triple sword has the same cadence as the double so pretty easy, now, my team being gone is pain 😭 ||
||Do I actually have to build Monoco 😭 ||
||This is as far as I got with honest tries||
||It is only bothering me because I wanted the XP on my main team so I can get to level 99 without grinding tbh
||
||I think I can sorta control the damage to the most output before being removed but its tricky when my parries do increasingly more damage
||
second time in a row btw, I think tht's a good indicative
I am giddy
One more try 😌
GOOOOT IIT
||I gommaged the guy to death, I didn't think he was gonna die, I got too excited and didn't look at the number but I did over 40% of it's health with it lmao||
Also, it was a no dmg fight 😌
come again?
so... what was this?
Is this worth or just in case you feel like (which I totally get)
I have go get ready since I'm being social today but now I wanna keep playing
I'm so close to the end, I feel I've been stuck down here forever (I kinda have)
That's just a QOL feature they added to some bosses
||So has he 😏 ||
||After release people wanted to fight Simon again (perhaps without a one-shot build), so they patched that in along with the difficulty modifiers||
that's cool
I'm not going to... PROBABLY
I can't believe I'm free of that fight
it IS possible I will actually finish this game!?
And then after you finish the game’s story, you do the tower
She can do most of the tower now
I'm almost done with the tower
that said imma go do the dlc first anyway
I'm also missing a couple of things
Act 2 || Well, I was right on at least one account so far ||
nice
|| Simon removes the party from the Canvas.
That is one of the most famous "what in the world?" moment in the game while playing for everyone.
That was also a big shock for me. But it was just as much a bottleneck because my backup team was not doing as much damage my primary and the lumina difference was staggering (before the DLC, there wasn't much ways I had left to get color of lumina that wasn't a glitch. So I had to fight a Gestral Merchant near the Draft again and again and get 1.4 CoL per fight ( 1 CoL guaranteed with chances of dropping 2))
Not only that, unlike you who had a hitless run with his attacks (congratulations) I was still struggling with never being able to do the Long Combo even when at just 2nd Phase. I had done a lot of mental imaging of that move by jacking defense and health to get more chances to fight and survive.
And even watching the attack on YouTube and I still don't know if I could not do it just because I sucked at parrying or if the R1 button was just not responding fast enough against the attack to parry on time.
I then decided to wait until holidays to give it another go in January but by then the Thank You update had come around and I was just too much done with this guy so I finally made an Immortal Verso build with a guide and killed him with that
In the end, I had to give up my plan of doing it the hard way but the fights in the Update were still cool (after jacking the life)
||
Hehe yeah
Act 3 DLC || Endless Towers || || this does not include the Ultra Bosses. Those were quite a nightmare. They once again made me go and open wiki to find every single lumina that I am missing and get it
At least this time the buildcrafting was done by myself. I had jobbed Lampmaster by myself before finding all the Luminas. (I was actually lacking some really good ones)
It also made my fight with Duolliste easier as I was struggling to even do the 1st phase for 2 days before and even doing it would take me half hour each time only to die immediately to 2nd Phase and not getting to practice but now I could clean 1st Phase quick and move to next.
I also wasted my time on Clea for more than 3 hours like a buffoon and only having made a dent in her health to quarter way through when she introduced even newer attacks. I tried learning those too with all those shields I had stockpiled with Monoco until I decided to just make a stunlock build. Which is absolutely why I think they gave Simon an anti Stun build.
Though I think they should have made him stunnable at least once. And then he could have had some kind of immunity. He is faster than Verso anyway to do any Stunlock shenanigans. ||
Act 3 || Endless tower || || Superbosses ||
|| Yeah I eventually will need to see what luminas I’m missing, grind a bit of CoL for the backup team, and get everyone leveled up a bit for TDS.
Still need to do Duollistes and Clea 2 as well though, which I should be able to do with the main team today as is afaik ||
Act 3 ||Verso's Draft||
Good stuff
||I think I just punched a kid into oblivion||
Yes
Justifiably
Ending spoilers ||you know, I would be more sympathetic to almost picking Mellels ending if her painting life wasn't 13 years of being a lonely sad orphan rather than her real world life being the child of one of the most wealthy and influential people of not France||
||but also I don't think they could of made her story work if she had a good life...because then she probably would have lost someone close||
All || there would also be a lot less reason for her to go to the Expedition. As she would not feel the otherness that she does in the canon version. ||
All ||Saw a twitter thread where someone found a newspaper with a picture of Gustave in the Manor and it spawned all sorts of theorizing...then someone slid in with the news it's just a reused asset from Lumiere xD||
Guys, I'm not digging the DLC 😔
I reckon ill be done by Tuesday since I'm trying to not play today
Rip
well i went in a little...
Act 3, DLC ||Verso's Draft|| ||I found a guy that mde me shoot balloons, now I dislike this even more 😩 ||
I really don't like the aesthetic, the vibe and some of the idle music
I also ||haven't fought any boss yet but the regular enemies are not something I like, and the status effect is just annoying||
E33 ALL
It didn't super jive with me either
I do have this I guess
Yeah... idk it's just a type of aesthetic that I think is funny for 5 minutes before I'm just completely done with it. ||and the happy merry music just makes me go 🙄 ||
We'll see, I will finish the DLC, I'm incapable of not doing so
||I fought the merchant but I don't have anywhere near enough chroma... am currently circling to ensure I got all the upper areas done||
I was raging at it for 2 and a half hours.
DLC || Post balloon game || || I didn't rage at it when I played it the first time. But the next time I was actually finishing my Picto collecting and that made this worse. I was just stuck there for 2 and a half hours doing the activity where the task itself is of 15 seconds to finish.
I tried with mouse, with analog, changing both's sensitivity at many different levels.
Seeking hints from YouTube.
Tried sticking to a lane, good general advice but still not enough. When I finally did it, it was for pure luck and I was just gald to be out of that he'll.
At least the Beach diving game is purely cosmetic.||
I think I missed this
DLC gen || other than that, I think I actually like this area. A place that actually explores Verso's hopes and dreams to unadulterated amount really sells. I almost cried when the merry go round scene happened with Verso and then again with Monoco.
The Enemies are interesting lore wise. Have good attacks and the status effects is something that actually made me be a bit wary of it instead of just power through it like I did with other Status effects.
Of course due to the enemies being scaled to be fought before doing last of the Endless Tower and Renoir's Drafts. I have to jack their HP up by 5 times until I could struggle but even there taking the Immortal Verso build is just mistake (even with the nerf) as it trivialises it so I even removed that. It actually felt better to have some variety in playstyle now that I was free from the Hell of fighting against Simon. (Then I was shot 52 times in my back)
Of course once I felt I had fought at least each kind of enemy once or twice, I returned them to normal HP and plowed through them.
I do wish they dropped feet for Monoco (I know they are not Nevrons but Monoco seriously needs some new skills. Currently Creation Void is the only one that can match up with the damage scaling with some of the other's skill and even that by not much.
Even his support skills are not great other than very few, he might not have been as useful if it wasn't for his gradient being useful. ||
I'm assuming they're talking about the ||Half-Baked Gestral who gives you the Trigger-Happy Pictos||? ||I think I beat that guy very quickly by just shooting the balloons with mouse aim.||
If it's something else then yeah Idk.
Ohhh yeah I remember now. I did do that game. Forgot about that lol

Obscur track from the... uh, Act 3 ||Painting Workshop?|| is stuck in my head.
Yesterday I was doing workout to Act 1 ||Lampmaster||
Ive made a selection of various OSTs for the gym
That's a good one.
At the big Paris show of Painted Symphony they even did Act 1 ||the whole turning on lamps ominously one by one|| intro for that song.

flights to see https://apaintedsymphony.expedition33.com/#dates
full game ||Some interesting observations in this video https://youtu.be/EFUdlm7VpLk but I feel like it's inconsistent in whether it claims that people gommage into the color of their own chroma, or the color of the chroma of the Painter doing the gommageing||
You might not have noticed it, but the colors of petals in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 aren’t just for show. They were chosen deliberately and they reveal who painted a character, who influenced them, or whose influence is affecting them in that moment.
We break down the hidden patterns behind the petals, from the gommage festival all the way...
||Yeah i saw either this video or a different one on it and there's a degree of inconistency that my guess would be either artistic handwave, or their behind the scenes rule is just looser||
I'm stuck in the dumbest crap
Dlc ||Verso's Draft|| ||There's a minigame on a seesaw and I don't know what am i supposed to do? Like what's the correct timing? I'm baffled||
||hi edgy-not-esquie that Verso painted at some point||
blinks
Ok, the DLC has now massively improved
But also I'm not doing this tonight
This song slaps tho
||is it possible to parry this fast? Sheesh||
|| It is indeed ||
Yeah they cooked yet again
Yes, this is really fun
Also y’all my E33 monolith arrived in the mail today apparently!!! Gotta wait until Thursday morning to open it though
i need this song in my life
one more try, just for the song
Oh crap is this song in the free extras?
Oh hell yes
me: coffee doesn't get on my way of sleeping
me with this song:
(at 2am)
Mine also arrives in a couple of days
There's people claiming that with 436 GoTYs, E33 has now surpassed Elden Ring with its 429 GoTYs to become the most GoTY'd game of all time. The GoTY GOAT. The question I ask is: where the hell are they getting this many GoTY's from anyway
How are there even 436 gaming publications giving awards? Are they counting random content creators? Does the Coxxie win count?
The only one I care about is the one on the big stage with the medley, and I'm a shallow mf who cares about it because it's on a big stage and has a goddamn medley.
DLC ||Osquio theme|| storming slaps.
Gonna be honest tho it sounds like it belongs in Cyberpunk 2077.
I can see that, but it does have an E33 cadence
DLC OST ||When I listened to the new tracks, I immediately loved "The End In Me". But Osquio's theme certainly grew on me after a few listens.||
I really disliked that one 😅
Gimme 20 minutes and 20 buck and I'll spin up a game review website with a small handful of reviews and a GOTY award for E33 to push it to 437
||Whee Whoo Days||?
I dont recall the name, I'll check tomorrow
I just love how I keep finding E33 tracks during album relistens that I didn't pay attention to the first time but love once I hear them again. It's like every time I think I've finished my E33 favorites playlist, I'm adding more.
Okay good, haha, I don't know how you could have disliked that one 😅
It's the ambient happy sounding track.
Yeah, I don't like any song except the 2 we mentioned
But there's one I specially disliked
My most recent addition was "Tout Ce Que Je Suis, Por Toi". I don't know its in-game context in the slightest, but the string-piano combo and odd time signature are just lovely.
Morning this is still me
...
Monolith music box is tight though
Very nice
Hell yeah! So hyped to open mine tomorrow morning!
Ah, I guess that's intended - the product page lists this as a steelbook
Timed open pre-order: This product is an open pre-order which will close on Thursday 12th June at 5pm CEST / 4pm BST / 11am EDT / 8am PDT. Product Includes*: • Monolith Music Box Statuette - 20.3cm tall, hand-painted, resin • The Expeditioner's Journal - a 48-page hardcover artbook • A Steelbook® featuring Gustave, M
that's fine, it's not like I could've used a disk anyway
Yeah, they could've thrown an empty disk or something
I mean I’d be happy if my set came with a surprise steelbook, empty or not
Or it could have - not a cd thing at all and just be a box
It is just a box though - it's just meant for your disk
Physical media. Could you imagine
probably a consequence of Laced Records thinking about music products
I had to look up whether a disc could actually hold the game, and with E33 being only 44 GB it looks like a Blu-ray actually can.
A hefty chungus game like BG3 at 145 GB would be a nay.
a fake paper/card disk with more art would also be a good option
My sister suggested I play Exp 33. 😂
Oh my god, I did not know that BG3 was 145 GB
I know some modern shooter games reach those levels. But that is an insane number for a game this popular.
Dang, this stuff is really nice! Need to decide where it’ll live ultimately.
Music box monument is heftier than I expected. Never owned a steelcase before but it is very pretty. I can see the appeal
-# Also yes glass desk bad. I want to replace it but also kinda hope I can hold out until next year when I will almost assuredly be moving
-# I live in perpetual fear of it shattering, disintegrating into countless little shards
I love how even the box it came in looks nice/is a good display piece
I miss game dearly
This is Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 OST compilation. Music by Lorien Testard.

I wonder if Soia finished the game
Soia was travelling
I wonder if Soia remembers anything about the game
I'm somewhere in act 2
I have not yet
What is your favorite moment in the game?
Mine is
E33 All ||When Maelle meets Alicia in the manor while the song "Alicia" plays during Act 2.||
And also
E33 All ||The Painted Renoir boss fight at the end of Act 2||
I love game so much
E33 Act 2 ||ohhh Andy Serkis is the guy that played Caesar and the guy in age of ultron||
||Don't forget Gollum in The Lord of the Rings! He's one of the best actors out there and he kills it as Renoir.||
|| he also had a role in Planet of the Apes if I remember||
||That's what w0dp meant by Caesar, I think||
Ahhh
I hit a mental block in Act 2 when ||the world opens up a bit and Esquie can go througb coral, and I'm intended to go fight two Axons.||
Kinda just wondering about general missable content: ||am I in danger of missing out on stuff if I just rush the story at this point? I had been trying to go back to get feet for Monoco but got a bit overwhelmed with some of the tougher enemies out in the world and amount of exploration suddenly open to me. Was in love with the game but kinda hit this block and haven't played in two weeks. If I go for story am I gonna hit a point of no return where I can no longer access some equipment, abilities, content etc?||
There is no missable content once you are out of the prologue
I rushed on my first playthrough and it was better in a way because I didn't cheese my way through the bosses
Very good to know, thank you :)
I'm such a terrible completionist, but I kind of just want to enjoy the story and see it to its completion (for both me and my wifes sakes, she's invested as an observer :3)
Imagine trying to get everything done in e33
/s
what is your controller?
Nyxi
Its... mid
It has hall effect, which is the reason I got it
because all my controllers get drift after like 8-12 months
but the buttons are so clicky
and the triggers are binary
What does binary here means?
it acts like a button, no path
Can someone confirm for me E33 ALL/achievements ||the 2 hidden achievements I'm missing are ending related?||
Hmm, I don't know what you are missing
||well, are there 2 hidden achievements related to the end?||
||I don't know which ones are hidden, and which ones are not. There is one to beat Simon. There's a "get to the end of the game." You might be missing those?||
||Top of the Endless Tower?||
I would say that's better
I have decided to ditch the DLC
no point doing something I'm not having fun with
so I've been finishing up collectibles
and am currently at E33 all ||Lumière||
Excellent
Yeah yeah, Im going to finish the game, what do you know
(This is where I close the game and forget to get back to it for a month)
I believe in you
||I have put enemy health at 5x, idk if that'll be enough||
Maybe not, but you'll have some time to adjust
yeah that's what I thought
That's Brand theft
Maybe it's Brand theft when you do it
I fought an enemy just to see and seems about right 🤔
Maybe 5x is good
