does it though
sorry this is the best reference image
just one of the two of those instead of both
i do think the first 2 seasons handle its darkness relatively well compared to the latter seasons where htye go too much into shock value
If anyone sees the weapon images and wonders what the topic is...
Don't ask.
brings a new meaning to || balls of steel|| lol
look i really do enjoy this show for all the sillyness of it as well
like this scene im talking about was objectivly silly
okay but like
saying it imitates real life and the grimminess of it next to that is like
sure a shock š
it is a show that containes multitudes?
everything dosent need to always be one thing ?
the silliness is also meant to contrast against the darkness of it too
Boys ||That wasnāt even the first time theyāve shown a superhero who uses their genitals are a weapon to bludgeon people||
they have done that a few times accross both gen v and the boys
This whole conversation feels like when my wife leaned over to see what I was reading and I was on the page in Children of Dune where ||Paul and Chani possess their kids and make out|| and she goes, "what in the world are you reading?" and I tried to explain but no amount of context made it better and when she asked if the whole book was like that I couldn't honestly say no
That specific scene though is the sole reason I'll never wonder why Denis Villeneuve is stopping with Messiah. Get out before the books get too crazy
i personally think messiah gets the point accross as well
i think going deeper is fine but its a different vibe
messiah shows you the whole point of things in an unambigous way. Even if i think its clear from before messiah the point of it all
messiah im not a big fan of
why ?
it feels like it was made to make it obvious to dumb people
i mean yes?
thats the whole point of that book because poeple didnt get the message and he wanted as many humans as possible to understand and not missconstrude the message
i mean yeah i know im saying that you can feel that intention which is why im just not a big fan
idk if i will ever really put that in as a negative, sometimes you gotta be up front with ppl
and just put it in their face so they understand
i would rather a peice of entertainment be understood fully by as many as possible rather than being kept away from ppl because they miss understood it
I disagree
why is it good that lets say he left it before writing messiah and never wrote it
Rope dart
I think there's art in subtlety and leaving the door open for multiple interpretations
I don't think the best art has the artist telling you how you're supposed to feel about it
yaa i was looking for a better name for it but in googling it is called that a lot
i agree
A wise philosopher once said, "art is not meant to give you answers, but to give you questions to think upon" or something like that
i think the best art is art that lets you come to your own interpretations of it and doesnt just spell it out for you like messiah does
idk im all for that sometimes but with the specific themes and the timeing of things and everything i would rather this specific issue was clear
because what we are talking about is specificly relevent to even todays world
where poeple are looking at one thing and seeing 2 different realities and it causes issues
I would say that's a bigger problem in news than it is in art
its still an issue here because poeple walk away confirming their evil and destructive world views because it wasnt as clear as it could be
"hes just like me"
im not saying it is
im just saying its not a bad thing to be clear in this specific situaiton
in my opinion?
eh the existence of messiah doesn't really do any harm upon the world so
im nto saying like burn it
but its not very good
and thats where we dissagree i think its fine and its not bad
i think its pretty good actually
its just a matter of taste here
oh yeah i can see why someone would like it
i also like it specifically in part because its clearer to those who misunderstood things pre messiah
My favorite thing about my mythology class was seeing the subtlety present in ancient plays. Oedipus Rex is a play about a ||guy who kills a guy on the side of the road, not knowing that it's his father and the king of a nearby city. He then goes to the city, saves it from bandits, and marries the queen (his mother) and inherits the throne. He learns that the previous king went missing and vows to the entire city to get to the bottom of what happened and bring those guilty to justice.||
To me it's rather clear that the author of the play was satirizing politicians, claiming that they are the people responsible for the problems that they pretend to want to solve and they're so full of themselves that they've never stopped to ask if they could be the ones at fault. The fact that this is an interpretation that I have rather than something that someone clearly spells out in the text enhances the story imo
im not talking about the broad world of this, mostly just in this situation with this specific issue i like that it is spelled out more because waves hands around
like i love that some art is up for interpretation
and a large % of ppl i think dont even make it to messiah
im just glad that in this one specific instance we have a very clear position being made. Like i kinda hate how obvious and in your face narnia is on this kinda thing
as an adult i cant read narnia because of how in your face all the religion and religious stuff is
I was fine with just reading the first Dune book. I only read Messiah because I was gifted it. After that, I made sure to ask for no more Dune books.
Someone named Kurosawa making a banger Samurai film?
Many such cases
I think ive heard of his film Cure before, doesnt he do crazy psychological thrillers?

I imagine it would be weird for fans of the original to watch this version with the characters in their 30s
Huh?
Are you just meming on the puberty? Or am I missing something
I don't understand what part of what I said was confusing
Are any of the actors in their 30s?
maybe all the makeup in the image makes them look older than they are, idk
Pretty sure theyāre all in their teens or early 20s maybe?
Aang - 17
Katara - 20
Sokka - 24
Zuko - 25
Azula - 24
Top - 19
Assuming I can do math
And I think they filmed seasons 2 and 3 at the same time
I think it was Sokka who really caught my eye and just thought 'he looks old'
like not old for life, just compared to the cartoon character
Thatās fair lol. I think my focus when I watched the trailer was on how tired I am of Netflixās cheap CGI
but also when I first watched the original cartoon the characters were portrayed as younger than I expected, so it evens out
For me it was (Avatar S2 trailer) ||Azula going "I saw the Avatar and he's just a little boy", when the actor now presents as a grown-ass man.||
I do anticipate that is going to make some rounds and get memed on
Given how the memes were around the stills of him in some S2 previews in the last month or two
they should've cast brodie sangster as aang
Bro is going to be Korra bearded Aang by the time they shoot film of Book 3 š š
ATLA general ||Nah, he'll be the Aang that Zuko was expecting to find||
As mentioned, Iām pretty sure Iāve seen that they shot book 2 and book 3 at the same time
Huh. ||They changed the line to match with the gif that (falsely) attributes it to Joo Dee.||
||I'm sure they're gonna very promptly feature 'That's rough buddy' in the trailer for S3||
Probably yeah
nah he just mogginh
oooh (Avatar S2 trailer, ATLA S2E10) ||Wan Shi Tong|| looks good
"he's a little boy"
is clearly 17 and the same age as the person speaking i cant read numbers
so much of the backgrounds is this...flat grey-blue
Was Katara in like... 2 seconds total?
Avatar All ||Are we including the shot of her as the Painted Lady cause what in the world is that doing in this season???||
||Was that in the trailer? š ||
||Just a real brief shot it's so confusing xD||
My favorite part of the original series was the muted colors and lack of iconic scenery
-# /s
Adult Aang movies drops on Paramount+ in October. Just a few more months
Seeing people in the comments for the trailer that seem surprised that the TV show adaptation of a TV show is including all of the storylines from the TV show instead of cutting them
I don't know why anyone would think they'd get cut
S1 did cut storylines didnāt it?
Oh yeah how do we still have no adult Aang movie trailer
We got one, it released via twitter DMs and sketchy websites and is roughly 1 Avatar Movie long
They cut storylines from s1
They did that in s1 also
||Zuko has a Blue Spirit stint in books 1 and 2 both, though...not in the way the trailer is presenting it.
why the hell is Katara there as the Painted Lady????||
||Though based on casting announcements they ripped Jeong Jeong out of s1 to cram into s2...and are also cramming Painted Lady from book 3 in there...||
i dont understand what they're doing
Given that the writers (and/or producers?) changed from s1, maybe damage control? /s
Or maybe planning around limitations for s3 based on episode count? Really hard to say
Like it's so weird cause it just removes these elements and plots from their whole context
Well now im just confused
So I reread Red White and Royal Blue the other day and that reminded me I needed to watch The West Wing. I donāt want to get into the politics of it, but the show is great. Even if itās weird to see all the hallmarks of this show being 26 years old.

Alright, tone for Resident Evil absolutely nailed.
Only takeaway Iāve had from the Cannes stuff is that I should watch paper tiger when it comes out
Does anyone remember a movie where a group of people go down into a cave system and the encounter some sort of humanoids that hunt most of them down?
Descent?
Thatās the one I think.
I just watched mortal combat 2
One of the movies of all time
Mc2 ||the fight scene with fire guy and hat guy was quite good||
||i also liked the fight scene with shah khan and the descendent of scorpio + the fight between katana and the white guy||
No clue what the plot was
It's Kombat bruh
Overall I give it a 7/10, it was overall enjoyable because the fight scenes were good and the dialogue and plot did not piss me off enough to detract from the fight scenes
Except for the white woman who was actually really annoying and delivered all her lines badly
i gave it the exact same score and review
||kitana was baller. sonya blade phoned everything in||
||oh her name isnāt katana?||
||I was really triggered when they first said her name cause I remembered that line from suicide squad||
Oh also the guy who plays Johnny Cage is the same guy in the Boys
And heās really funny

POP MUSIC INSERT
I saw that movie in theater for a friends birthday, I think it was the first time I saw a movie in theaters and thought during the movie "this movie sucks"
I didnāt know there as a mk1
I thought it was called mk2 because it was based off the game mk2
what about MC1?
Oh wait for a 3/10 movie I would say fantastic beasts 2
i would give fantastic beasts a 1 but that is splitting hairs
FB 2||mind controlling male mc to be in love for jokes and making it about ww2 were both terrible ideas||

Not only was the acting bad, not only was the plot bad, not only was the plot bad, not only was ||there was a random holocaust scene and wizard Hitler was trying to prevent the Holocaust|| but I actually could not tell what was going on for half the movie
3/10 for me is Rise of Skywalker
Hardly anything rates that low for me

Fun fact: that movie took me three tries to watch because I fell asleep in the middle of it the first few times
Not sure why. It wasn't a boring movie; watching it just made me feel tired. Maybe it was the shaky camera.
I just remember drifting off during a quiet scene, then something loud and violent happened and I thought "Huh, sounds interesting" and fell asleep.
Still a pretty good movie
The shaky cam in it are the worst
how funny/fun is Mother compared to other BJH films?
I loved the Boys finale
Yaa as a story conclusion I love how it bookends things kinda where we begin as well
It was so sweet at the end and I kinda teared up a bit
the rest of the season sucsk
but the finale was great
I think Boys finale ||Killing butcher|| was unearened compared to the comic
More Elden Ring Movie film sites spotted. The even got the npc henchmen marching about the same way š
I'm not expecting much from this movie lol
More than likely more commercialized slop like the borderlands flick
Idk, at bare minimum they've put a lot more effort into the costumes than borderlands bothered to
Not that that's very hard
I don't get judging it early though, we know so little about it that it could turn out pretty much any quality and I wouldn't be surprised
But the likelihood of it being as bad as borderlands is low
You have to try to be that bad
blech
I did a watchalong for a bad movie night of that one, and I regretted it
wasn't even fun bad, just boring bad
Borderlands suffered from production interference and being shot during COVID and it's a real shame.
I'd love to see the original script by Craig Maizin (writer and exec producer on Chernobyl, writer on Mythic Quest, co-creater of the Last of us Adaptation)
Craig maizin tanked tlou lol, Niel left cuz craig wouldn't listen and turned Ellie into a joke
that's...a reasoning and description of reality you've made up
It's well known
Both seasons of TLoU did well critically and ratings wise, and "well known" doesnt mean anything if there isnt any actual source besides people deciding it must be true
Cause Neil didnt leave
He still works on the show as an executive producer, he just isnt writing or directing for season 3
He's just busy with his normal video game job

og star wars is better than og naruto
i'm not sure about current star wars vs. boruto
that's a hard one
:stare:
dude current star wars has Andor
And everything else...
Lmao
Naruto manga is probably in my top 20 stories of all time so obviously much much higher than Star Wars
But current star wars vs Boruto is easily SW low diff
Usually we remove anomalies from datasets
I am still thinking if Boruto has any single good panel or moment
-# for me obv. in my humble subjective opinion
atleast recent star wars look pretty at times
okay yeah the first page was pretty great.
that's really it

It has been surprisingly useful
But do you think it's still good despite not considering it SW?

Star Wars
Seppuku š
hope s2 ends up being good
Current SW also has Bad Batch and Maul

I wonder what its about
OG Star Wars clears Naruto easy tho
More specifically, my biggest question is, is it 2077-oriented or Orion-oriented
it would be interesting if its between 77 and orion
just give me a better paced show than s1
s1 was super fast to its negative for me

What a beautiful progression of comments
Thereās gonna be a screening of Sinners at my uni tonight
Iām excited, I havenāt gotten around to seeing it yet
That happened with me at Iron Lung in theatres. Maybe it was that I had eaten lunch before going to premier and the outside was very warm and the inside was very cold so my body became too comfortable and decided it was nap time.
If it wasn't for the intermission in the middle. I would have fully dozed off.
Intermission ftw
š
I disagree. Boruto is kinda good at times.
I disagree with your disagreement
It's in my bottom 5
and I have read plenty of cremmy manga
Will he "pause to react to stuff and make jokingly accurate predictions" here too? Because I want exactly that!
I don't remember my bottom 5 mangas. I do wonder what those are though
2 of the Bottom 5:-
Real Account
I know there could be more trash that I could add in the list but I haven't read enough of it to really make that call. This one I had read a lot and an sour on the time I gave to it.
Usagi Drop
Might have been in my top 100 manga or even top 50 if I did not know about a certain 'betrayal' that would happen in the future chapters that I did not bother reading through.
"I am my Wife" I did not like the premise
"Kichikujimma"
Yeah same problems as Real Account. A lot of edgy stuff that also suffers from some very dumb plot.
I am just typing the nominees right now. I don't know what else I would find that I dislike
Yeah it is really hard to find some really bad stuff from my memory that I had read enough that I can make a judgement on it.
It seems most are either average and unremarkable (so I stop reading) but the most offenders of being in my bottom tiers tend to be either Ecchi or Ecchi + Edgy with graphic imagery.
They tends to lose substance and I sometimes tend to read them more than I nor ally should because I have hopes that maybe it would be good or something but it isn't most times.
There are plethora of terrible Isekai that would have made my list if it wasn't for the fact that I don't read them for more than a few chapters
CSM and Boruto is something I have read a lot and I don't feel the same.
Meanwhile Jagaaan and Juujika I have read upto the point where I don't really feel hatred/dislike for it. It is also the edgy show that has the potential of being terrible and sourcing my mood.
But it hasn't for the 5 chapters of Jagaaaan and many chapters of Juujika I have read.
Grashos I haven't read at all
Today would have been Peter Cushing's birthday ; Tomorrow would have been Christopher Lee's birthday

Really funny comment I saw in a video on Project Hail Mary. ||Grace likes his personal space. Rocky also likes Graceās personal space.||
It was so good damn
After it ended I overheard someone saying they thought it was some sort of blues heritage film and were shocked by how it actually went
Hell yeah! Speaking of Sinners, I ordered this last night and itās here. So itās time to see if 4k blu rays are notably better than streaming for me.
Funny thing - I brought my PS5 home from my gfās place to test this. But I forgot to bring a controller back home
Luckily I have no shortage of keyboards
mangus arc
Idk what that quite means. But just ran a few minutes streamed on HBO Max. Moving on to the blu-ray
The temptation to watch this movie again tonight is so real now lol
It appears the keyboard cannot pause the movie. But I can at least pull up a menu to back out
Alright so it seems like I can spot a difference between the movie streamed on HBO max and the 4K blu ray. Though itās not all that substantial, it is definitely a bit better
I do wonder if I chose the wrong movie to test this lol
Can you explain the context for the eyeballs emoji?

Witness television history. PRIMETIME, a new film by Lance Oppenheim, starring Robert Pattinson. In theaters this Fall.
had no idea this existed but i'm seated
so peter jackson is trying to buy the Silmarillion?
that's the word on the street, and with Christopher gone he at least has a chance
too bad they didn't wait to make Rings of Power until they could do this, although I'm not sure that would have made people like it
i mean, the Tolkien family sold the rights of RoP about 3 months after Christopher's death
not exactly? They still didn't have the Silmarillion and are prohibited from adapting anything that isn't in LOTR
Christopher was around for the process of listening to pitches for the series and appeared to like Amazon's pitch
I think it was just the appendixes
yes, that's a part of LOTR
if it's in the four novels and not the appendix it's also fair game
Umm, I think the sale will go through, and I believe a Cinematic Universe will be
It's like adapting the Bible; you have to do it in several movies or series
entirely possible. They're already working on at least two films within the context of LOTR
I don't think it'll be a 'the silmarillion' movie or series at all, they'll just pick storylines from the book that they think will make good movies and do those
At the very least, if everything goes well, it will be by 2033 when we get something, at the very least.
And since there are main characters from their own stories that intersect in others, I think a shared universe could be more feasible
perhaps, but it only took 3 years from Lucasfilm's sale to Disney to release TFA
and I think the 'shared universe' as a concept is starting to prove more trouble than it's worth
the problem is you release one bad movie and it poisons your brand to an extent that's difficult to recover from
only if you do it wrong
nobody's perfect
the hobbitš
Now that I think about it, if this happens, the Silmarillion adaptations would be released at the same time as the Cosmere one
God I hope they put more planning and thought into it than that
But considering the Hobbit and RoP.....yeah my hopes are literally in the gutter
The Hobbit mistake was more Warner's than Peter Jackson's; he only wanted to make two films and was already taking a risk, but Warner wanted another trilogy. Besides, he was practically forced to go and rushed into it.
I don't think they'll rush it, if only because Serkis has a Gollum movie, and then Colbert has a Bombadil movie, it's not like there's a hunger for Tolkein content that makes them consider rushing
Can't wait for the gollum movie based on the critically acclaimed videogame
But there's no guarantee there won't be more studio interference this time.
What does seem clear is that Peter Jackson seems to be involved in everything, And he seems eager to return to Middle-earth
Please don't ping me for every reply.
Furthermore, if I receive adaptations of Middle-earth in addition to those of the Cosmere, I will be happy
I don't really trust on Amazon to deliver good movies tbh
I don't think they're selling the rights to Amazon if Peter Jackson is involved
This conversation has reminded me that the Pope made a reference to the Lord of the Rings
Onision will be teased in the post credits scene
Even still, his is the name attached to the project.
Between The Hobbit and the deleted scenes of LotR, I'm given to think that PJ's original ideas for LotR are generally not much better than anyone else's
The genius of LotR is that there's virtually nothing new textually. Stuff is regularly scrambled between characters, but almost never do you have him putting entirely new words in characters' mouths
Also the plotting is tight enough they didnt have to mess with events too much
People really show their writing chops when they need to solve plot issues
More than that, it is long enough that even in three four and a half hour movies they still had to cut a good deal
The Hobbit in three similarly sized movies ended up exploring new ground and every time it does it gets worse
The first movie is mostly source material and as a result it is far and away the best of the three Hobbit films
hobbit trilogy ||it makes sense to show the battle of the five armies. why the hell was it an entire movie||

Probably RoP is what drove PJ to get back to Middle Earth and do a good adaptation. To wash both the RoP and also his legacy with Hobbits (I kind of like the trilogy, but still acknowledge that it is has a lot of faults)
||it should have just been 2||
should have been 1
I think 2 would have been perfectly valid, I think 1 could have been a little rushed
Im being realistic lmao
I don't remember the book having as much content for 2 long movies
it has like what sub 100000 word count
hobbit ||showing the battles and building out the cast adds sufficient time i think||
and Tolkien was one who would indulge in more descriptions and worldbuilding stuff than the general fans' "plot"
That is also frai
Fair
yes
Hobbit ||The Hobbit movies are guilty pleasure movies and I like them, but movies 2 and 3 could have been one movie. Movie 1 is fine as is||
It is also relatively dialogue heavy and dialogue often translates to more time-per-word than action does
On the latter, Tolkien is somewhat unusual because Helm's Deep, for example, is like two paragraphs long and they made it the B plot for the second half of The Two Towers
I understand there are fan edits of the movies to condense them but I wonder what kind of demand there would be for such a version as an official release, with Jackson's supervision
I will just live with the GDT Hobbit movie in my head cannon.
why couldn't it be weekly release
š
I would have been able to watch it
Wait what format are they doing?
every ep released
Tolkien left a lot of space for jackson to build our fights

After years of slapdash sequels and waning fandom, the Camp Miasma slasher franchise is handed over to an enthusiastic young director for resurrection. But when she visits the original movie's star, a now-reclusive actress shrouded in mystery, the two women fall into a blood-soaked world of desire, fear, and delirium.

New trailer!!! Going to drag my brother to this
There is a horror(well for them I would enjoy it) film to be made about all these dead people coming back for vengeance on their AI imitators.
I would actually go out to the theater to see that.

More avatar in concert
Iāve been thinking recently about how Iād love to see ATLA in concert a third time and idk when/if theyāll come back around. So this I will happily take
Hey, I just saw a video about the possible cancellation of the Percy Jackson seriesš
It lost 50% of its viewers in the USA and 60% worldwide
I need comparisons to other shows. But those numbers sound crazy to me.
and Because they haven't announced that they're filming season 4, when they were already doing so 6 months before the premiere of the next season
Shows do decline in viewership a lot these days, butā¦
Now that I think about it, nobody mentioned season 2, even though I have a section of my library dedicated to Rick Riordan
Yeah same weirdness as with WoT.
WoT was something where I think fans could tell that the show was on the bubble after a lukewarm reaction to season 2, Amazon clearly pumped the brakes on marketing
so if that's happening with any show, the network isn't really pushing it, I'd be concerned
I mean, I talked about it quite a bit in while it was coming out.
TMA 16 || Going from a really scary cave diving episode and seeing an episode called āArachnophobiaā when you have arachnophobia⦠oh no no noā¦||
I think that was one of the few episodes I saved to listen to at another time, instead of when I was walking home in the dark...
TMA ||the cave one? cause HOO BOY||
No, the other one you mentioned.

RoP had a second season?
I only ever started the first episode of season 1 but tbh it had me curious. Life just did life things. But I thought season 2 was just taking a really long time to come out so I wasnāt really in a rush
For some reason I thought they already had a season 3
Havenāt been following it too closely
I find it incredible that the same company that made Rings of Power has made Spider Noir
Oh this looks really interesting
Sold me a lot more than the first trailer
I might have to see this...
Xmen 97 looks really fun as well
i just watched mamma mia!
it was meh
really hard to enjoy a musical when the main actors are not singers
Season 3 is coming out this year :p
Very much looking forward to it personally, season 2 was very good imo.
Getting caught up on Wonder Man, four episodes in. Really interesting. I like how it makes me forget it's a Marvel show and just seems to be about a show about what it's like to be an actor.
That being said, Wonder Man Ep 4 ||Of all the weird things I'd expect from this show, a nightclub remix of "In Summer" from Frozen would never have crossed my mind. That's wack. š ||
Backrooms'ing today
he really puts his all into the song too
Wonderman Episode 4
||I was not expecting the reason for superheroes to be banned from Hollywood to be that Josh Gad jumped into a man and died||
Youāre so based
mama mia ||I think Christine Baranski was the only full Broadway singer? (The Does Your Mother Know That Youāre Out lady)||
Anyway I think movies far too often cast regular actors in place of Broadway actors in musical movies and it is noticable
Like just cast people who regularly sing Broadway PLEASE
I think Mama Mia is better off for it than Les Mis tho because Mama Mia has some aspect of campiness that the bad singing can feel okay about
It is quite distracting
I appreciate mamma mia as a fun campy feminine movie, but it still falls flat in a lot of ways
Ansel Elgort in west side story vibes
Backrooms was good š
Few things I'm a bit iffy on but overall told the sort of shorter contained story I enjoy + worked really well technically and in terms of horror for me
MG have you watched The Gilded Age??? it's stuffed with broadway actors and we haven't had a musical episode, surprisingly enough
iirc part of it was production started while theaters were shutdown for COVID and they were like, dang we can scoop up all this bway level talent for our show
Yeah, MCU lore is wildin'
Yes I have haha
My mom loves that show
Itās a good show
Gotta love casting all the Broadway divas as New York elites
9/10 actors in that show have been on Broadway lol
Also Denee Benton (who I LOVE) is a lead so WWWWW
And ofc Audra McDonald and Brian Stokes Mitchell getting scenes together is fire
Donna Murphy is fun too
The worst is Russell Crowe in Les Mis
Awful casting there
Tbh, I could never hear the issues with his voice. It sounded fine to me
Ohhh I want to watch gilded age
He was okay imo. He had one really good song (cool)
I thought cool was good but he did a really bad job with Maria imo
He came off as stilted but I think some of that was intentional
Most of their interactions were sold by Rachel Zegler who did a fantastic job tho
Tbh the romance part of wss is also the weakest by far, especially because Maria behaves in truly inexplicable ways
I just thought he sucked in the movie overall, there was a lot of heavy lifting in his scenes by zegler and Faist
Faist was fantastic
they finally get colour grading right for a show and it's one meant to be seen in black and white
Harsh differences to make color grading translate to Black and White is a whole art
What would have been funny is if the Color version was in classic⢠black and white stage colors (seen here)
also I didn't know it was from Prime instead of D+ going inn
Learning Nic Cage actually pushed for the color version so younger audiences would be more willing to watch it, and then check out the black and white one out of curiosity to hopefully make them interested in getting into older films has definitely helped sell me on the two version
Yeah, itās a Sony thing, off the Spiderverse property
so I was very relieved when I saw it was in 1.85:1 aspect ratio instead of 2.39
2.39:1 for TV shows is such
I hate the aspect ratio so much
I was initally skeptical too but it's so pretty that I'm sold
I don't think you'll be able to get back out of there
Iāll find a way
I expected to be disturbed, and instead was disturbed in a way different from what I expected, so it was still a disturbing experience. Still kind of processing it.
Gonna watch another episode of Wonder Man to offset it.
Doing Spider Noir in BW as intended
And I know it's not the point but between this and Sinners we've got Li Jun Li rocking the 1930s
Wonder Man Ep 5 was barely 20 minutes? Disney+ doing Disney stuff, I guess.
I really want to see Spider-Noir, but it would feel unfair to not finish Wonder Man first.
Wonder Man is very good! I would finish it
Been waiting for a Spider-Man Noir movie (close enough) ever since I first played the Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions game.
Oh, I'll definitely finish Wonder Man, this show got me hooked.
I'm still in the first episode but Spider Noir is very stylish, Cage is definitely having fun
that episode felt like filler
Wonder Man Ep 6 ||Simon! Stop screwing yourself over gahhh! Stop overthinking! Stop relying on other scripts! Not in front of Von Kovak! I'm feeling secondhand pain for this.||
Wonder Man Ep 6 ||Gosh, that nightmare jumpscare was wack AF. Had me really freaked out for a bit.||
Same tags ||"I can't imagine anyone else in the role." YAAAS!||
||I know it's all gonna go to hell pretty soon, because these things always do, but it still feels good in the moment.||
Caught up to Absolute Batman (falling behind with the last 5 issues)
This is genuinely the best comic on shelves rn
i need to read absolute evnetually
Absolute Batman and Absolute Wonder Woman are the ones worth reading the most IMO
All of the Absolute titles are great in their own way but those top the list for me
yeah i heard martian manhutner was really good as well
I've really enjoyed all the Absolutes
MM is really good, definitely worthwhile
Absolute GL is one of my favourites honestly, but I imagine it's not for everyone
|| I had not seen the scene that Simon references so I was going whole way through " Oh that is some high quality stuff Simon is doing. Wait, why does Von Kovak feel awkward? This is a scene from an existing film? Oh noooooooo||
AMM is my favorite of the bunch. Deniz Camp is the best comic writer in the game right now imo
He also did Ultimates for Marvel which was the standout in the new Ultimate Universe
The casting for the mad king stage play is out and JonCon Brosā¦. Itās bleak
But I like the casting even though some of them look a bit old for who theyāre playing
Caught that one yesterday. Had to see it in theaters alone because it didn't feel right to bring anyone else to it. That film left me feeling profoundly disturbed. I went into this movie in the know of this particular Backrooms series and thought I knew what to expect from it, but it managed to keep disturbing me anyway.
ok this show is so so trash but
Suits S2E8 ||OMG I can't believe how they have Louis eating out of Hardman's hand when he was being set up by Hardman as as the fall guy way back when the embezzlement happened. Can't wait for that shoe to drop||
S2E9 ||Oh hey, there's the shoe||
||I've seen cooked spaghetti that's harder to bend than Louis Litt||
We love a trash cable show
Anyone watch The Backroom movie?

Wonder Man Ep 7 ||We get barely a glimpse at Simon's dad, but Sanford is already such a great character. Great dad, love him.||
||Also, happy for Simon getting the role, but a bit worried about him letting it get to his head.||
||Dang it Simon, don't mess this up! Don't try to change the costume, don't try to change the dialogue, stop regressing to the old bad habits!||
||Forget the Damage Control stakes, at this point I'm just invested in Simon not screwing up his role.||
||Trevor saving the day by just being himself again.||
||This is a show about people getting in over their heads and messing things up on their own. I'm not even thinking of "Damage Control A-hole" guy as the villain anymore, the villain is "getting in your own way".||
||Or maybe it's Kathy Friedman.||
||Why are they being so weird around her, it's icing their game.||
||Severance reference in a Marvel show? Modern.||
||I don't think I realized this sooner, but Simon's just... always awkward. It's like, his default state.||
(Still Wonder Man 7, btw)
WM 7 ||Oh no, oh no. She's a dear to Simon but now she's tearing into Trevor. But the focus was so much on Simon we weren't ready for that. Daaaaang.||
I hold hope for there is no antimemetics department gets an adaptation given its has a non SCP version thats much more appealing for major studio who like to make money
WM 7 ||Ohhhh no, Simon knows Trevor's secret now. š¢ It's falling apart now. š ||
WM 7 end ||Frick. I was gonna stop at this episode, but that's a darn cliffhanger there.||
Funny thing about Wonder Man is that the episode descriptions seem nonsensical but only really makes sense after you've watched the episode. Usually, those descriptions give a description of what you're going to see, not the other way around.
Wonder Man 8 ||What I'm wondering now is, are we ever gonna find out how he got these powers, or will this go unanswered?||
Yooooo! I didn't see this!

I think I can never imagine how Star Plus shoes do this multi-generational story where the characters have the grandkids become MC and still keep core audience.
The two times this happened in Zee TV, I feel like they started to lose their core audience.
Both with Kukum Bhagya and Pavitra Rishta
Further drama, new face. Trying to get in new viewers.
They try to maneuver a quick change of new audience, but in typical Ekta Kapoor fashion, those shows fail miserably
It's soft reset so that their failing show and TRP can be saved by shoving in new faces
And the good/bad part is, she knows how bad of an idea that is. In the movie C KKompany, her brother is a main character and she gets a guest appearance making fun of this type of trope
Finally!
very much hope Hollywood learns the right lessons from this weekend
I watched purge election year against my will

Oh well guess ill just have to wait a bit
nice
I want to see it in theaters now!
Thatās just like the iron lung thing. Wonder if theyāll block it from the charts (they wonāt)
Or they keep making live action remake slop and never learn (either one)
I know this was meant to be a small, low stakes project but it seems to be doing worse than imagined
I thought the low end was ābarely missing Soloā but it could miss the mark by like 25%
release a SW blockbuster in June
its third in box office after two horror films
Eh
Talk about qualities asidr
horror films have been the most successful at Box Office post Covid
Every year
Oh how the mighty culture sledgehammer of SW has fallen
And not just any horror film is beating it. A measly $750,000 horror film is beating the snot out of a $165mill SW movie
Hopefully its a wake-up call for Disney
A fresh non-baggage film vs a film that requires years of content knowledge and the fact its a declining franchise
Same thing with Marvel
Will be very interestnig to see how Doomsday performs
I think both franchises are both just sort of ready to be done? They still have their fans but they've sort of done everything they can do
Probably not very good, even with the family Christmas slot
I would say that the weight of the MCU and Avengers would pull a lot but given star wars, thunderbolts, f4, etc.... I dunno anymore
I think Doomsday will do Avatar 3 numbers
Secret Wars could do more or less depending on whether people actually like Doomsday
Side note I started watching The Boys with my brother
Itās crazy how good s1 is actually
I watched a few episodes and yeah it was really well done, I never felt driven to finish it though
Wonder Man Finale ||TREVOR NO WHAT ARE YOU DOING NOOOOO||
||He can't do it again. Why would he do it again. I get he's trying to protect Simon, but aaagh there's no coming back from that. š¢ ||
||Crazy how seeing "The Mandarin" appear again would be confusing and maybe terrifying in another setting if the MCU had gone in a different direction, but this time it's just... really bittersweet.||
||But you gotta hand it to Trevor, for writing his own script for the Mandarin act this time around, he did a pretty darn good job of it. Especially considering he pulled it all off in barely a day. Putting his acting skill to one final epic use... all to protect a friend. š||
||Damage Control A-hole getting on my nerves as usual. "Yeah, I had my suspicions from the start."||
||Von Kovak once again showing why he's the "visionary" director. "Use these emotions to inform your character, but also imagine you had a dream that your mother cooked you a hedgehog for dinner and see what that inspires."||
Wonder Man Finale still ||Simon looks so legit in the Wonder Man suit, but dang they really just... cut straight to the premiere of the finished movie after that? That's a lost of time-skipping going on there. And gosh dang it, Barnaby was played by Joe Pantoliano? What a cruel irony for Trevor.||
I am loving these reactions
||Nice to see Eric not being a jerk still. Nice to see the brothers making up.||
Glad to share them. I figured maybe a couple people would appreciate a liveblog, haha.
Plus I need to vent somewhere because this finale do be making me feel things
Wonder Man finale ||Hmm. All of a sudden, we switch things up halfway into the episode and it's got me feeling dubious cuz there's barely 15 minutes left of it. What's Simon up to, eh?||
||Yeah, I'm so confused by these new scenes right now. My theory is... Simon is shadowing this rando in Yucca Valley to study how to act the part of keeping a low profile and blending in as an everyman so he can... discreetly bust Trevor out of prison? I don't know, I'm having trouble making sense of it. Is the guy a security guard at that prison? I'm just throwing out theories with 10 minutes left of the episode to go, haha.||
||Hmm, this Chuck guy does seem to be a cop or a security guard based on the dialogue. Chuck seems like a great guy and he's already an interesting enough character, but why are we just getting introduced to him so late? Anyway, feeling confident about this whole infiltration/prison break theory.||
||It's Damage Control! I frickin' knew it!||
(Still the Wonder Man finale) ||Using his acting skills to jailbreak his best friend. Oh, whoa whoa whoa, and not just that, but his powers too? He's gotten control of them, honed them to a fine degree. Ooooh.||
||Doing a solid for Chuck's family and their financial problems on top that is the real hero move. Don't let him be liable and help a brother out? Dang Simon, you really have become less self-centered. End of the last episode, and we see Wonder Man doing some real superhero stuff. Love to see it.||
||"Simon Williams is an extraordinary threat... or asset." Dang it, Damage Control A-hole, I knew I still hated you.||
||Okay, but how did Simon get his ionic energy powers? This never gets answered!||
||He flies now, Trevor is freed, Damage Control A-hole guy is screwed, and... Season 2 please?||
Okay, finished the series. Hot dang, that was really, really good.
Next on the queue: Spider-Noir. That and Season 5 of The Chosen.
Oh right, I forgot how big my Disney Plus watchlist is. It includes stuff ranging from Firefly to Sister Act 2 to Frankenweenie. Wack.
Spider Noir has been great 4, episodes in.
Watching it in black and white and they've done soluchna good job with it.
||The big theory is that he is a mutant.||
Poster or trailer?
Wonder Man/Ms. Marvel/Spider-Man BND ||The is a theory going around that the DODC is transforming into an anti mutant task force. Considering the way they are targeting enhanced individuals (And Kamala was revealed to be a mutant at the end of her show) plus and anti-mutant X-men villain is rumored to be the head of the DODC in BND, and the next saga being the Mutant saga. I think it is a safe bet.||

Check out the new trailer for The End of Oak Street! In theaters August 14, 2026.
After a mysterious cosmic event rips Oak Street from suburbia and transports their neighborhood to someplace unknown, the Platt family soon discovers that their very survival depends on them sticking together as they navigate their now unrecognizable surroundings....
||The implications of that would be massive the plant life alone would change the timeline ||
Yeah, grass didn't evolve until after the dinosaurs went extinct, to name just one example.
Thatās actually I believe been contested in the last 3 years
But yeah that would still be massive
||So if the chunk of land is that high up, above some reasonable looking trees, how did the dinos even get up there š¤ ||
Actually, yeah, I just checked, and technically grasses did exist long before the Dinosaurs went extinct. But apparently they just didn't become super widespread like they are today until afterward.
I believe thatās a more modern development in our understanding like I think we found that out on my way out of school
Science is so cool

C3 and c4 are types of carbon fixations grasses can be either c3 or c4 which you can track using the different weights of carbon becuase you are what you eat

Fun fact, apparently Charlie's reaction to being yelled at was genuine, because no one told him that Wonka would be yelling. And also the unease of the characters during the tunnel scene; they apparently thought that Wilder actually WAS cracking up. lol.

this could be great or awful depending on how seriously they take it, im tired of war of the worlds over and over again in these type of movies
Guys, if you wanted to buy tickets for a very hype movie, would you do it online or by going to the nearest cinema and do it physically?
If youāre worried about it selling out, do it online
I tend to buy all my tickets online.
Only exception is the little local theater which doesnāt do online sales.
Nono lol, I just want to get tickets for my family
And since there are 5 of us, and getting 1 is already difficult
Iād get them online then
Wow, the last time I went to the movies as a family was with Avengers Endgame
It is a good option because "I have them at hand"
But also the last time I wanted to buy them like this was in spiderman nwh and I didn't succeed because the page was falling all the time
The bad thing about going to the cinema is that I don't know how many hours I would lose until it opens
I do online, through the theater's own website if possible to avoid Fandango fees

Zack Snyder is set to direct the āESCAPE FROM NEW YORKā reboot.
ļøļø
ļøļø(www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/zack-snyder-escape-from-new-york-remake-1236610684/))
Its all over
terrible news
@studios stop employing Zack Snyder
The concept of Henry Cavill being casted as Snake is now a real possibility
you would never see me again
PLEASE why are we still hiring him š
He needs to make twilight of the gods season 2
Mmmmmmmmmmm how did I get Zack Snyder Twilight out of that
Actual genuine nightmare scenario š
I think zack snyder for an escape from new york reboot is the wost possible option
Can you imagine if they hired him to make the Mistborn movie?š
Because Mistborn is "dark" and there are references to religion
Then we will have a better Mistborn movie???
Worse
Better š
The Snyder Cut
Vote for worst director for Mistborn.
Well I imagine he would have trouble directing well then
SMH lynch got that dawg in him. The grave canāt stop him
I can already see Snyder making his 3-hour cut of Mistborn to emulate what LOTR did
although I have the impression that most would be in slow motion

Fellowship of the Ring book is shorter than Final Empire
And a bunch of content in it are cut
nahhh, Mistborn is not written in such a way that an adaptation would be long; a large majority of the pages are reduced due to the battles.
|| bombadil chapters ||
Eh
it has more content than LoTR books
If you look at the way "mistborn" is written, BS did it to make it easy to bring to the big screen
He's gonna cut all the stiff I like to make the movie 2 hours
More words don't mean more content; just look at the Bible
I have read both books. I like LoTR but a huge amount is just description
Mistborn has more content
More stuff happens in first 50% of TFE than whole of Fellowship
So 3 hours Snyder cut isn't a proper meme
It's better adaptation šāāļø
Thats assuming the 3 hours is all content
True
From half-watching a good chunk of ZS:JL I imagine a lot of it would just be from slowed down sequences
he would out do himself
in Rebel Moon he added slow motion in 6 min slow mo scene
Now he's gonna go deeper
Slow mo inside slow mo inside slow mo
Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think the Mistborn adaptation has themes open to interpretation deep enough to justify a 3-hour runtime. To be honest, it's been a while since I reread it, but I think a good portion of it is dedicated to explaining the magic system
[Mistborn Screenplay] ||I seem to recall Brandon mentioning that he even found it easy to combine scenes Like when Kelsier robs Straff's mansion and BS said he'd combine it with Vin's training||
I think you probably could make a 3 hour cut. I think you could probably also make it work in less time, with just more condensing of sequences
I am more of a character reader. With 3 hour run time || Crew interactions, Vin infiltrating balls and etc stuff that I like, would have to be cut ||
Idc about main plot. Never the reason the stories really hit for me
I like to analyze the way books are written, but if I had to say something, it's that a good adaptation only takes what the plot advances
LOTR is a very special book, it's like you're reading mythology
And that brings several variables in its adaptation
Then there is mistborn, which has its most modern style (it does not mean inferior), and being more direct it would not be so complicated to get from a point A to B
That's the difference for me. The "plot urgency" is the thing I hate in books
let the characters have quiet moments with each other. Let me be in the characters shoes and see how events are affecting them
Take it slow and let me be there in the world (a lot of TWOK chapters are this)
There's no rule in art. I can only say what my preference is and what makes smth good with that.
Mistborn being sub 3 hours is gonna remove moments I like

oh, I would like to too, but I think that several companies in the industry are already focusing their rhythm on something similar to tik tok
You guys wanna know something funny
So
When I was little
Like Iām talking 5 or 6 years old
I always thought movie directors were a one man crew
Like the director did EVERYTHING
From holding the camera to lighting everything
So I would always get confused when me and my dad would watch a movie and the director would be acting in a scene
Cause you know sometimes directors put themselves in their movies
How would you be that young and know its the director
Well my dad would tell me
I probably was like 10
Idk
And I would be confused as to how the director could hold the camera AND star in the movie
Because like GENUINELY for like the first 12 years of my life I thought directors were ACTUALLY the ones holding the camera
I believed as a kid that actors should act in the film again, but in another language for the rest of the world
Yes yes yes yes yes!
Apparently it turned out to be just IGN clickbait nonsense, and the reveal was just a flag with the icon from yesterday's tweet
no sign of a trailer today
Better photos of David Corenswet as Superman on the set of Man of Tomorrow, spoilering since these are technically set leaks but no major or minor spoilers

Wasn't he the one who was raging about how superhero movies aren't cinema? Interesting double standard
This is not absolute cinema
Yesssss, very good. I need more.
Petition to make Guillermo Del Toro the new "Absolute Cinema" guy. I'm starting to think Scorsese doesn't deserve it.
I'm inclined to overlook someone saying something dumb in their 80s, personally, but it is a sign that maybe stop listening to them
I'm not sure why you needed to wait until now to stop listening to him, he's had his head up his own ass for decades
decades?
that feels pretty revisionist
Shutter Island, Wolf of Wallstreet, Killers of the Flower Moon, and The Departed were all within the last 20 years
and I feel like lots of people have come around to his comments on marvel movies, he was just ahead of the curve
His only recent miss was the Irishman
youtube video essays about how marvel's process of making movies is bad are a dime a dozen nowadays
and I think more "serious" authorities on movies probably had similar thoughts to Scorsese at the time but didn't want to rock the boat
yeah, I haven't seen that one but that is what I've heard as well
No his movies have been (mostly) fine
But he's basically always spouted off in the most elitist way about True Cinema
This isnāt really a Scorsese issue, thereās been a recent shift going on with people in Hollywood coming out and saying that they accept AI
I'm only really familiar with his take on marvel movies but in that case I wouldn't even call it elitist
some authors saying they're okay with AI use too
it is sort of weird to see an 'elitist' embrace AI slop, I'd think the two should be mutually exclusive and that you'd be more likely to see AI embraced in the genres where they can theoretically throw Harrison Ford on some guy on the next Solo film
Can't be a luddite
I don't really view the world through a true cinema vs. not framework, I personally think it's not a useful distinction, but I understand what someone like Scorcese means by it and think that there is a meaningful and important statement being made about stuff like Marvel through it, that isn't just pure elitism and nothing else
He's clearly a washed old man now though if he's pro-AI
looks like he's now using it (or at least is marketing it) for preproduction
the video is basically him generating mood boards to show his production designers and whatnot
tbh i have a hard time of thinking of scorcese (or other hugely important, influential figures) as washed, and I do think their voices hold some importance
"AI is revolutionary it'll democratize the creation of art and revolutionize the process" and it's some very minor step in the pipeline being made mildly faster while lower quality, at the cost of all those data centers
im just shocked its scorsese of all people
he's already used what I think most people would call AI
very prominently in fact
wait no, Irishman wasn't deepfake nvm
just that really bad de-aging CGI
Irishman was just a good ol sixty year old man protecting to be 20
yeah I guess it would have looked better if it were deepfaked
Tbh my take is that calling on a consumer boycott of AI is gonna fail, as all consumer boycotts inevitably do
The biggest sticking point for AI is the building of data centers, with the latest expansion being particularly unsustainable rn tbh
That will probably ultimately be what kills the AI hype (first time NIMBYs are on the right side of history lol)
if you genuinely get to the point where AI is so expensive you might as well pay humans to do it instead, then sure
I mean, AI to some extent will always be here to stay and can genuinely be really useful but the free apps + general overuse probably isnāt sustainable
Think about how much people freak about nuclear plants 100 km away
Saying āweāre gonna come into your neighbourhood and build a giant plant that generates noise and heat and uses all your waterā is gonna go down like a bag of rocks
Oh they're not building nuclear (yet)
They're building gas plants on the scale of state/country power plants
Okay well most of them time nimbys are wrong and also stupid
But if itās NIMBYs vs Big AI, I think the NIMBYs will probs win in the end lol
But don't worry bros, once the desperate need for chat bots is fulfilled, they'll turn the remaining resources to solving climate change and making free energy for all
The NIMBYs are also not happy with the gas plants
Thatās true but most nimby-ism seems to be targeting nuclear
Which is why they're doing things like applying for licenses that only fit 1/10th of the eventual built capacity, or building them on trailers so they're "temporary" and don't need permits
Okay NIMBYs donāt always win but they do win a lot
Gas plants also for better or worse create jobs
afaik NIMBYs in most places in the US can still block that datacenter
A data center is literally a box that takes in water and generates noise
I had a PBS video about this thrown at me today, can you tell?
they also raise electric bills
NDAs and carefully constructed plans that don't require community meetings baby!
I have not seen this video, but generally if the municipality organizes it can block these things either by lobbying or by replacing officials
organizing is of course not trivial
My point is, telling consumers āthis movie uses the bad and evil tech, donāt watch it!ā is never gonna work, whereas ādo you want a data center in your neighbourhood Y/Nā is gonna be an overwhelming no

Definitely some bias in the video, but I think it's generally on point
I think most boycotts struggle heavily because getting people to actively care enough is hard, but I don't think that necessarily applies to boycotting AI, nor do I think boycotts are necessarily even the correct framework
Most boycotts are built on trying to act upon something that isn't really in the public eye, for which getting people to care enough to change their behaviors is inherently hard, but AI does in fact have a very large swath of people who are viscerally (and correctly) against it for what it is on the face of it. A very large number of people will simply see things that use AI and avoid them because of that on the face of it. Yeah, sure, a lot of people are also happy to mindlessly consume it, but the starting number of people against it here is way higher than it is for most issues that incite boycotts.
It's more just overall culture and trends of consumer behavior at scale not liking AI, than the typical boycott where a small interest group tries to motivate a larger number to care
It's a more extreme example of it, but NFTs didn't need a boycott to fail, they just weren't good in the first place + acceptance was not the default
I think there's a distinction in the sense that there are going to be some technologies that are, in essence, AI, that use the same underlying technologies, that are likely to be accepted (or at least tolerated), and some aspects of it that won't. And I think you'll find more people than you might think who claim to hate AI say, 'oh well it's not that bad if it's doing this one limited thing'. The low hanging fruit of an example, oh, it's not that bad if it's finding cancer that doctors previously couldn't identify
i think that the anti-AI movement is very much a boycott, especially when it comes to people trying to raise awareness of what games/movies/etc contain AI and shaming creators or companies for using it. they're not really wrong for doing so but its an attitude hugely prevalent in online places and much less prevalent irl. the best comparison i have is the HP video game, which saw huge online opposition which had almost no impact on irl success
in both cases, i think it's an attempt to "moral-ify" consumer culture, which fundamentally does not work. if it did, everyone would be cycling vegans who upcycle their clothes.
Polls of public opinion on AI are generally pretty split. HP and JKR are something where the general public is extremely unaware of the issues compared to people online. I don't think this is a good comparison.
