In NY that would be 9th of May probably
Check the day after tho just in case
Right
Thank youuu
The MM/DD/YY is really confusing
Here if we say IDK, May 13th is 13/5/2026
In the states we do MM/DD because we say, "November 1st" instead of "the 1st of November"
YYYY-MM-DD supremacy
Yeah there are plenty.
Thing is that's not even a consistent convention in the usa to say may 13th
May the 13th right?
Yes
you say that but I'm not sure I've heard it any other way here
maybe people in other states or something idk
In most of latinoamérica we say 13 de Mayo
It's pretty consistently written MM/DD/YYYY even if we sometimes speak it differently
Like with that
when I say 'here' I mean in the states, or northeast US in particular
and yeah I'm not really talking about holidays, like we'll say 'cinco de mayo' when referring to that particular day even if we'd never ordinarily say any word of that
we'd never say fifth of july, for example
and if you're just talking about the day on the calendar without any significance to the holiday, you'd always say july 4th
It's definitely reasonable in my mind to flip between say, April 6th and the 6th of April
It's a phrase that exists enough that there's nothing confusing about it
Like if I heard it I wouldn't blink
Yet I don't think I'd ever default to it
yeah, I wouldn't say it's 'unreasonable' just unusual in this specific part of the world
I mean, I use both but only one format of dates, so I don't think the correlation is in the direction it's being made out to be.
It depends on subconscious formality and emphasis
it's one of those things where if you do it the other way, it's a clue that person might have grown up somewhere else in the world
In my mind Nth of Y is more "proper" than Y Nth
Just like "farenheight is good for humans" these arguments dont actually stand up to anything besides "its my culture and im used to it so its better"
neither system is better, you can argue 'logic' until you're blue in the face but it's just one of those things that make us different
Anyone who doesn’t use ISO-8601 is wrong and should change
If only it was inverted
which is stupid
Why would you invert it?
D/M/Y is the best
But then sorting alphabetically messes up the order
Sorting alphabetically already messes up the order if you don't include leading 0s or list the months by name instead of number
For sorting/file naming purposes I always do YYYY-MM-DD
That’s part of ISO 8601!
I would argue that it's not stupid since it gets the information across and it's the way a lot of people speak, that's just how language works
yeah ISO 8601 is better for computers but for humans D/M/Y is better
Idk, to me it feels like the people who champion dvorak keyboards. Sure I can get the idea behind the change in the design, but it's not really "better" for the US on the grounds that everyone in the US does MM/DD/YYYY
Something something Maxim Of Manner
Like, I think it would be better if we had 13 months with 28 days and a single new year's day, but if I was put in charge of calendars tomorrow I'm not changing it
we should have 10 months anyway
They'd have to be different lengths if we had 10 months
yeah
Coke
If the US doesn't want to adopt ISO 8601 there's always its own ANSI INCITS 30-1997 (R2008)
I prefer DD/MM/YYYY but YYYY/MM/DD is totally valid too but yeah there's no way I'm finding MM/DD/YYYY optimal
Like i said earlier MM/DD/YYYY is only viewed as optimal if you are born in the usa and dont want to change the way you do your dates. Its super easy to change how you speak and the arguement of "its how we say it" dosent hold water because there are too many counter examples
It comes down to "its my culture so its best"
I dont think anyone has said its better than dd/mm/yyyy
Just that its what everyone here uses and its better to be understood than optimal
Optimizing dates is such a marginal improvement to life doing 3 push ups probably has higher net impact
How is it easier to understand
Because its what everyone uses
it's easier to understand when it's the default in your culture and using a different one is just going to lead to misunderstandings
MM/DD/YYYY does have the advantage that the smaller number range comes first
But none of this matters lmao
also in a practical sense 90% of the time it's that people just use MM/DD
and then when year is important they add year onto the end (because it's usually not so important that you need to put it at the front)
that creates an awkward order when you're using years, obviously that's a good argument for DD/MM/YYYY over MM/DD/YYYY
but when it comes to the difference between MM/DD and DD/MM it's arbitrary in most contexts (with DD/MM still having the advantage that it's easier to add years onto it)
The clear solution is that we all just need to switch to the Julian Day convention.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julian_day
The Julian day is a continuous count of days from the beginning of the Julian period; it is used primarily by astronomers, and in software for easily calculating elapsed days between two events (e.g., food production date and expiration date).
The Julian period is a chronological interval of 7980 years, derived from three multi-year cycles: the ...
Unix time ftw
Count everything in UNIX timestamp since epoch. Don't worry about anything other than seconds.
Thats what im saying
Lmao
Why stop at seconds? Let's just count everything in ticks
I'm loving the current trend of people adapting FPS games absolutely hating video games as a medium
there needs to be some sort of metric form of seconds and time measurement before I can be elitist about what's clearly supereior
If only there was a metric version of seconds!
there is
and it was glorious
I wonder if you're gonna do metric time, would you set the base number at the year, or the day?
The metric second is also the second
metric time meaning strict base-10

Invincible S4E2 || Has the action in this show in previous seasons always been a bit light on frames? ||
Invincible 4x2 ||Iddd say so, yeah. Maybe not the first season? I never looked to this show for cool fights, I had anime and Xmen 97 for that 😂||
Lol yeah I was just surprised I didn’t notice the choppiness before lol
|| Also and ATLA ||
i have not seen the new seasons but the animators have been getting less and less time and money, its like 4 people doing it rn or something like that?
animation studio changed after season 1 as well
Oh dang…. That’s kinda awful
S4E2 || Well that was another solid episode ||
I’m looking forward to seeing what’s coming in the rest of this season
Yah it’s unfortunate how Amazon is spending money on every episode of Invincible. “The most expensive per episode animated series ever, with $2.5 million minimum per episode” sounds impressive like you’re going to see the most insane animation since 90’s tech animes……… theeeeeeen you see that they are blowing $200,000 (per person) for 6 celebrities to be voice actors for like 10 lines of dialogue and then they are gone
thats not the issue
its a time contraint
the issue isnt budget
they had a longer time for season 1 which is why that has so much better animation
I will say that they are putting the budget and time into the most important scenes this season. So at least they are making do
I've mostly decided not to watch it, I'm far behind on the series anyway but I'm not really interested in a version of GRRM's story that George hates
I sort of lost interest sometime in season 1 anyway, that's not necessarily the main reason I stopped watching, but it's a motivating factor in not trying again
I’ll probably still hate watch it 😭
||this is why winds isnt out||
||george too fuming to write||
-# nobody tell her
I still believe we'll see whatever parts of the book George has written one day, idk if it'll be in his lifetime, but it'll come
All of asrak’s antipsychotics will not shake me from this belief
HotD ||because they hate us||
||Aemond and Daemon not being depicted as two sides of the same coin is CRAZY work||
Hotd ||also what is up with daemon still hyping up Rhaenyra||
||give me nettles or give me death||
||i am not feeling the feminism in this thread||
||don’t you know @lone canyon and I hate women||
F+B and HotD ||they cut the one black character from the book||
||Sexist pig smh||
Duck sympathizes because he also hates women
I've been watching Jet Lag while I transcribe notes recently, and I've been loving it. Soutout to whoever posts here when there's a new season that really got it to burrow into my mind.
It’s so good
I rewatched Ratatouille last night. Great Pixar movie, one of their best. Never noticed their Incredibles reference before. Both movies general ||There's a mime in Ratatouille you see for just a few seconds who's identical in appearance to Bomb Voyage from Incredibles.||
And maybe this is a hot take, but I think my favorite character in that movie is Anton Ego.
i need to catchup on jlag i have not watched any of this season
Ngl I don't think that's a hot take at all
He's a compelling character for me
Very compelling indeed
Was watching rn
Ratatouille all ||Particularly his shift at the end. He's such a strong antagonistic force for so much of the movie, and you see how his harsh critique of cuisine has left him so gaunt and borderline emaciated, so it's particularly heartwarming to see him at the end looking not just happier, but also fuller, less thin, more color to his face. Like, the ratatouille was a life-changing experience for him for the better, and you can see how much better off he's been since then.||
Jetlag ||Episode 6 was almost all snack zone||
Questionably
Yeah not thrilled for hotd s3
Jet lag rail rush game design ||the rules for this season seem really good but the outcomes have been so bizarre. How a team with less stations is getting significantly more challenges is very confusing ||
Same tags ||Yeah, I really don't know as well. You'd think the designers would space the challenges out around the map a bit more, unless this is just the world's worst shuffle. But it does seem like the map is really top-heavy in terms of challenges, which means that whoever controls the north controls the challenges and therefore the coins.||
||I think it is randomized with a terrible shuffle||
Episode 6 ||It's made the last couple episodes a little un-interesting to me since it seems like Ben and Adam are kinda just screwed. Though this could solely be due to the reactions of the players. The two of them do still own more stations, so they are technically winning. I haven't watched episode 7 yet, hopefully the gameplay becomes a little more dynamic as Sam and Mike have to go start claiming more stations||
Happens I guess
||The big problem is choke points the way the game is designed you establish 2 choke points and both pump as much coins into it as possible the issue is that any asymmetry in challenges gets amplified as one side gets a tone of coins to shrink the opponents zone || jet lag rail rush
||I think it would work way better in a country with more of a web||
I’ve been doing backlog, not gotten to the new season yet.
I’m a fan of Michelle Khare and both season Ive watched with her have been fun, but Arctic escape really divided my loyalties because I immediately latched onto rooting for Ben and Adam.
I always root for Ben and Adam
This is the way, because Sam seems a terrible person.
I don’t think I would go that far? But I’m far from having watched everything yet.

Ah ok. My same issues. These days people say ‘terrible person’ and I assume something cancellable
So it’s good to know it’s just the same general stuff
Oh, not as far as I know.
Wait, hold up. Yall were talking about it before I posted it in here?
Nebula / patreon get the video early
When there are women on the show I've noticed he's more likely to point a camera forward while following them up the stairs rather than at his face, but I don't know if that's really cancellable. More just, come on man
Lol yes. The show in general at least
I talk about it every Wednesday in here, I guess it's finally catching on. 🙂
I'll keep an eye out, but that's not what I mean when I mean cancellable. I'm just used to constantly finding out either abuse stuff or political stuff with figure skaters that I get very suspicious
Ah so it was you who got me to watch it from just the constant reminders it existed.
Hehe. 😈
A week early
Ive binged All Stars, Capture the Flag Japan, Escape the Arctic, Shengen Zone (that was the first one), and now Hide and Seek UK
I've watched it all from the beginning I think, besides the.... Crime Spree on that isn't on YouTube.
I think hide and seek switzerland was my favorite.
I started with the territory game in Australia with Tobey and was hooked
I would love if they bring in Rainbolt as a guest for one of these
Oh no lmao
hed destroy them
I love it
imagine if they brought Brennan on
They already know the dropout people
It's the latest season worth a watch? The past few seasons have felt a bit boring to me
The guys just seem too good at the games now/ the games are just not a great watching experience
Yeah well thats why
TO be fair, they'd probably have to pick a game that isn't hide and seek
Because that would be instant death
Something that is fun but doesn't get nuked by his geoguessr abilities
How about a mini season of hide and seek, 3v1
It’s so flawed as a game tho but the ending
I will watch. that next
What do you mean as a flawed game? Strava map is OP, but I'm not really a game theory person and most of the time I've had it on in the background as I transcribe notes

I am very nostalgic for the first book of Narnia
I never thought I'd see the adaptation in the cinema
Please tell me you were born for the 2005 adaptation's release
Just starting Arrival.
Well, I was alive, but I was a baby
At least you were alive. That's more than some here can say
Damn, I feel old
This is also adapting a different book than the 2005 film
This is Magician’s Nephew, not Lion, Witch and Wardrobe
I recorded on a VCR tape the Narnia preview with the wolves that aired on the Disney channel and then watched it incessantly. Pop that tape into the media center box built into my mom’s Honda Odyssey and throw down the little screen and play that ish on loop
Maybe that makes you feel less old idk
I had the tie in movie game for the GameCube so... 🤣
Love that movie
You were at Oxford in the 1950s?
Yeah, obviously
Narnia is one of the biggest reasons for my love of reading
Ive tried to read Narnia as an adult
And it is really hard to read with how much I can see and feel the religion
And its so obvious
As a kid I didnt see any of it
Relevant
read them when I was 10 and vividly remember being so curious as to what Aslan was refering to when he said that he goes by another name in the real world
I just thought it was more Narnia lore 😭
SAME!
To tack on the meme, while multiple times Tolkien denies his shell shock of WWI influences Lord of the Rings, for multiple (if not even more) instances he does also just flat out outright explain the world is just a Catholic Christian world wearing a silk-thin blanket Halloween costume of Olde-British-Norse mythology
Finished Arrival. That was an amazing movie. I love Story of Your Life, so I am really happy the adaptation lived up to it. Denis’ visuals match the story very well and Amy Adams performance was beautiful.
Religion and war trauma
Is there anything like letterboxd/storygraph but for TV shows?

yeah sorry out of luck then
anyway you people like avatar so i have a question, in a different server im in we do watch parties for s bunch of shows and we vote for what shows to watch and one of the shows coming up is legend of korra because no ones watched it but everyones watched avatar except me i havent watched avatar do i have to watch it to understand legend of korra i have time to watch avatar bc its after we finish Son ofthe century and the sopranos i jsit wanna know if its nessecary because it doesnt interest md that much
I guess it's not strictly necessary but it's highly recommended
Kind of like reading Mistborn Era 2 before Era 1 except the time between the two is only like 70 years instead of 300 so there are even more connections
I remember watching a bit of Korra when I was younger (ive never watched avatar) and I don't remember having many issues
But like, it was long enough ago that I may have just forgotten that
Dont have the energy for a movie tonight but i'm gonna put on an episode of succession

Its not bad either though

I'm excited for Dune 3, supergirl, werwulf, clayface & backrooms

I'm hopeful for it. Apple TV is still pretty fresh on the scene, so we'll see if they insist that Severance gets stretched longer than it oughta be like Lost. Fingers crossed that they let it come to an end
Im not too worried about the show itself im more worried it will end before it gives us the answers I want
Though they're ressurecting Ted Lasso now, so I don't know
I don't really have a ton of trust in the Severance guys to see that story through, though I also didn't love the second half of season 2 so take that perspective for what little it's worth
Expand that to all Spider-Man movies please 🙏
Was there anything specific that you didn't like, or was it just not clicking?
Severance ||The core conflict, the 'damsel in distress is going to die because of the work you've been doing, but you saved the princess with literally seconds to spare even though this work has been going on for years', it was just storming stupid to me||
suspension of disbelief issues mostly
it wasn't really on my radar but I did see a trailer when I saw... some movie, what movie would I have even seen recently? IDK
PHM, that's it
I got AppleTV to watch Murderbot but cancelled it after
There’s just not enough on it as a platform to justify keeping it imo
Especially cause foundation is lowkey mid
I only have Apple TV because it's bundled with apple music and a family plan
I've watched episodes of a few other shows, Pluribus, Slow Horses, For All Mankind, Ted Lasso, but I'm not really good at finishing shows
I sometimes watch just a few episodes and say 'yeah I kinda get it'
||That's valid, yeah. I feel that was partially an issue with setting up the rescue window. I still don't entirely understand why Lumon was going to kill her instead of try to show her off as a new product demo or whatever. They had her severed in many different ways, so I think if their plan was, "put her brain back together to show we can bring people back from the dead, then block off her memories of the prison," that may have been better. Then the reason to break her out is so she can keep the prison memories and testify against Lumon.||
||That finale was great though. I really liked the whole structure of switching between the severed and non-severed Mark to get free||
I thought it was a contrived and disappointing idea executed reasonably well
I just don't have a lot of hope for the show in the aftermath
Severance ||but yeah, the whole 'I don't understand why they wanted to kill her' is probably a key part of why I didn't like it, it felt like some producer just thought they needed to ramp the stakes or something||
||maybe they just wanted to make sure their narrative was locked down or something, but they probably should have been rid of her the second word of her possible survival leaked to the outside if that's the case||
I'm wondering where it's going to go after the end of season 2. ||I get heat of the moment and all that, but I truly don't understand what innee Mark's plan is. He just killed one of the higher ups, so there's no way Lumon is going to just let him get back to work. And he can't leave the building or outee Mark will just go about his life like normal.||
Severance ||I guess that's the other thing, like, I don't honestly trust that they knew where they were going with it either, when they wrote it. They seem like total pantsers, which is cool when it works, but to me, it isn't working. Like, it feels like one of those shows where they introduce mystery boxes without a clear idea of what the answers are||
||and I don't know why innie Mark would trust Lumon, the company he just raided to release their hostage, over his alternate self||
||so it's less "Lost with answers" and more "just Lost"||
I think it's a little unfair to say that a show that isn't done yet never answered all of the questions it raised
that isn't what I said though
I was replying to nullvoid
to be honest Lost did the same thing
you introduce a mystery box, eventually you come up with an answer, but what makes it an Abrams-style mystery box is that you introduce the mystery without knowing the answer as a writer
Lost offered at least some answer for like 90% of their mystery boxes eventually, whether the audience liked it or not
and that's not intended to complain about the remaining 10%, I think it's good to have some lingering mystery even when you're done
Abrams was a producer for lost, the main writers were Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse.
Abrams did have that philosophy of making mystery boxes without knowing what was inside, but Lindelof and Cuse purposefully never put any of Abrams' boxes into the show if they didn't know what was inside.
Abrams gets pointed at because his influence and his boxes are all over the pilot, I know he didn’t do the day to day or much at all afterwards
For sure. And we've seen from his other stuff that he never really seems to know what's actually in the mystery box or what it's purpose is
The idea is really good and can create an engaging story, but you really have to have some kind of outcome in mind. Is there a cool character motivation inside? Is the point that characters want what's inside and it doesn't matter what it is? Is it that there's another mystery box and the whole idea is endless mysteries?
If the writer doesn't know what the point of having the box is, it can lead to very unsatisfying endings
But yeah. Honestly it's worse than "he didn't do much day-to-day" stuff. He brought Lindelof onto the project at the start and then left partway through making season 1. So Lindelof, who was just starting his writing career, was put in charge of this massive show with little to no warning. A show that, as a reminder, had a pilot so expensive the head of ABC got fired for approving it
A lot of people think that's why a lot of the show centers around people being thrust into impromptu leadership roles
finally got around to watching the super mario galaxy movie and it is definitely a movie that exists. Kid was entertained and I really appreciated the full orchestral versions of familiar riffs but ||it does seem odd that there was more Fox than Rosalina in this movie. ROB and Mr. Game & Watch appearing makes me wonder if we're thinking about a Super Smash film eventually... or maybe they're just present as Nintendo deep cuts||
Its what george orwells horrible trotskyite moralist allegory on rails deserves
Rampant speculation ||Calling it now, the Zelda movie ends with the Postman running up to Link to hand him a letter with a familiar seal...||
||My assumption is that the eventual smash bros zelda will be separate from the live action||
I had a very similar gripe with the movie (mario galaxy movie) ||its called galaxy movie. You cannot just stop at like.... 4 refrences, and then shove other game refrences in there when the title told me it was supposed to be about GALAXY. I wouldnt have been nearly as miffed if it was just mario movie 2. But my hopes were high... alas 😔💔||
||theres a 3rd mario film teased so maybe at the end of that||
Wait WHAT???
You’re telling me Mary Jane was in TASM 2??? And was cut???
Yeah the TASM films were a mess
TASM1 had a decent plot, but the tone was too dark and the suit sucked
TASM2 fixed the tone and suit, but the plot was a mess
TASM2 had a killer soundtrack too
I never honestly watched the ASM movies
I remember I was obsessed with Electro's theme back when the movie came out
oddly I never watched Homecoming despite watching the second and third Holland movies
I've been meaning to go back to it one day but never bothered
I think the only Spiderman movie I haven't seen is Spiderman 3. I think I saw parts of it, but never the whole movie. And I'm fine with that.
I've watched it once, in a theater, and I don't really remember it at all
Fun fact: When I was young I disliked Spiderman 2 because I found it annoying that it was trying to be two movies at once that didn't fit with each other at all. (Superhero flick and romantic drama)
Almost like that's whole point of the Peter Parker/Spiderman double life dynamic, wowww. But I was a dumb kid who just thought the movie was trying and failing to be two things at once. It totally went over my head.
I have a soft spot for TASM 1
Yes its not perfect but it was the first live action Spider-Man I watched in theaters
It feels like it's trying too hard to be The Dark Knight
Yeah, it was the era where every CBM was trying their damndest to be like The Dark Knight
And then every CBM tried their damndest to be like The Avengers
I don’t even know what the next trend is
I don't think that's really the new trend, the newest one of those is 5 years old
I did say next after avengers, not necessarily new
I don’t know if there’s a ton of it out there but the shoe could fit
Also, like, Watchmen was a bit earlier, anti-hero stories and subversions of superheroes might be a bit niche, even if one version did well
I don’t know if it’s a trend or not, I just don’t disqualify based on timing
Multiverse movies were also big for a minute there but I think it's on its way out at this point
its also not a new trend at all
Might not be a new trend but it's an ew trend alright
Eh i like it tbh
I generally dislike satire or subversion made from spite
I like ASOIAF (not necessarily GOT) because it's a respectful and thoughtful subversion of heroic fantasy
Garth Ennis meanwhile is a being of pure spite
Subversion like that also only works once or twice, imo.
And do it too many times and it just gets boring.
Boys author?
Yeah
Stop, please
What did we do to you to deserve this
covid began 6 years ago
Makes me curious, I know relatively little about The Boys beyond the headlines and watching the first 1-2 episodes, but what do the creators think of the Amazon version? Do they stay quiet, are they salty, do they like it?
No clue because the more I know about Ennis the less I wish I did
I wouldnt call it satire made out of spite
but i think people overhate on the boys comics tbh
All I know is that Ennis had nothing kind to say about the right-wingers who took forever to realize the show was making fun of them lmao
Watching Devil Wears Prada and I think, "movie tries to convince me that Anne Hathaway isn't stunning" is my favorite genre
They call her fat!
Makeover time!
||Her sleeves fit her now, so she looks like a completely different person||
Devil Wears Prada
||Nigel telling Andy when her whole life crumbles around her she'll be ready for a promotion is gold tier foreshadowing||
||There have been so many shots that make it look like someone's about to get hit by a car that it's kind of a relief that Emily got hit by a car so I can relax||
Daredevil Born Again 2x8 ||Ok this is getting ridiculous, WHERE IS SPIDER-MAN???||
||You’re telling me all this stuff is going down and he’s NOWHERE to be seen??||
i also find it amusing that emily blunt is supposed to be wearing the peak of fashion but in 2026 she looks super tacky imo
The hair alone is just so out of place
Severance 2.4 ||What.||
||They're really just going. Full cult.||
||tallest waterfall on the planet my ass||
||Theremin moment||
what is this show
I wanna say you're on the weird episode, but that describes pretty much the whole show.
But I found 2.4 to be weird even by Severance standards, though, haha.
Grumbles. The theme song for Peacemaker s2 is annoyingly catchy. 😒
I finished a couple days ago and the opening fanfare in particular is just looping in my head.
Jet lag Tawain ep 7 ||the cracks in the game design are really starting to show ||
||I have never had more respect for this series than both of them using the stalemate to look at ducks ||
I’m not caught up with this season uet
the best actor OAT
the Meryl Streep version of actors (he can do anything)
Matthew Lillard has been cast in Man of Tomorrow!!
Currently unknown who he is playing
2026 is The Year of Lillard and I'm about it
He had an interview a while back about how he thinks no one actually likes him, they just like the nostalgia when they see him and it makes me so sad
He’s obviously playing Wonder Woman
Pretty sure he's just gonna play Shaggy
...in Superman?
There has been a Batman and Scooby Doo crossover...
There we go, there's been a Superman one too
What are we talking about here man
What was the entire point of this scene in Civil War then Joe
I almost felt like that scene was a sort of under-developed version of the whole, "with great power," thing. Like, it was the precurser. We see later on in No Way Home ||that he learned the lesson more directly with Aunt May's death, and including that felt to me like the movies saying that he didn't learn that lesson with Uncle Ben's death||
I had a random thought, one of the reasons Game of Thrones is great is because of it's opening.
Because it actually shows a map and focuses on the important places, it helps give the audience contextual clues about where everything is and that helps explain the vast distances. It helps where a lot of shows fail because you have no idea where anything is at.
wrong channel
where?
General probably
Reading the interview, I think they were saying that he wasn’t involved in the same way as previous Peter’s were. General Spidey mythos ||Most of the time it is Peter’s actions (aka not stopping a robbery because he felt slighted) that caused Uncle Ben’s death. I think with MCU Peter, what ever caused his Uncle Ben’s death was disconnected to Peter.||
Possible example ||This Peter hid his powers, and feels that if he understood them when Uncle Ben was killed he could have prevented it.||
||MCU Ben’s death probably did help lead to him becoming Spider-Man. But he doesn’t have that same regret and self-flagellation about the it.||
Korra ||i dont think korra has a better written episode than zuko alone or the first toph one @lone canyon ||
I can’t think of any standalone Korra episode that was really good tbh
Korra did have a lot of good fights though
||the fights were entertaining but some were just flashy||
||the kaiju battle at the end of s2 is so lame||
||okay the mecha and kaiju stuff sucked||
||I really liked the fight with Kuvira vs the bandits though||
||also the red lotus breakout fights||
but have you considered
They sucked lowkey 😭 😭 😭
||the giant metal mech at the end is one of the dumbest things i have ever seen||
ok but I was just talking about the probending fights
"fresh and juicy" lives in my head rent free
They wanted to be gundam
Not even gundam, they wanted to be code geass
Is that better or worse?? 🤣
I haven’t watched gundam but it seems to have less egregious moments than code geass
I though code geass s1 was unironically really good though
Code geass s2 ||it got really dumb with the geass fight between lelouch and the emperor over the spiritual collective of the platonic ideal of all the worlds ballsacks or whatever that was, and the ending just got kinda ridiculous||
||anime has an issue of ending with abstract nonsense||
I was prepared for some slander, but those are definitiley valid complaints.
I really liked most of code geass!
But yeah, the (Korra S4) ||mecha kaiju battle definitely killed any remaining investment I had in the show at the time.||

Daredevil Born Again 2x8 ||Peter seeing the news that Matt revealed his identity:||
Is it Born Again or the OG?
Born Again
Oh crap, my mistake, just fixed it sorry
||I mean its just the end game of eva its not that complicated || code geass
||when eva did it, it was cool||
||Its still pretty fun tbh. Its a 1-2 episode thing that explains why the emperor is inactive and the reasons behind the geass. And then we get to go back to the actual conflict with ethe people we know ||Code geass
Code Geass All ||I think the main problem with it is that it's a major conflict with one of the (if not the singular) Big Bads of the series, and it runs on a branch of the magic system that was essentially unexplored and unexplained before that point (or after that point, tbh).|| So it's perfectly understandable for the general reaction to be '...that was weird.'
||The steals ruined this game for me.||
I mean it is explored
code geass ||nothing in season 2 is as bad as lelouch's geass accidentally being on when he says "boy, and i had been planning on telling you to 'kill all japanese' euphy". bottom 5 moments in fiction of all time for me.||
||nah that one is fine its so absurd it works. Like yeah that would be the most absurd thing he could ask her to do and the odds are so insane||code geass
New statistics about Gen Z's entertainment consumption have been released:
︀︀
︀︀• 59% subscribe to a streaming service just to watch a single title then unsubscribe
︀︀
︀︀• 70% no longer buy physical copies of films
︀︀
︀︀• Gen Z is the most theatrical generation, with 13% more likely to attend opening weekend than older moviegoers
︀︀
︀︀• 62% won’t pay full price for video games
Gen Z is the most theatrical generation, with 13% more likely to attend opening weekend than older moviegoers
i wanna see the methodology on that one
becuase are they saying they are more likely than cohorts at the current moment or age
“Teens and young adults are more likely to physically go to the movies”
62% won’t pay full price for games.
I’m curious what percentage could afford of Gen Z folks could even afford to
I think that's kinda... always been the case
I mean why would they 99% of the games people will buy will go on sale if they wait. How dare the Gen Z base have delayed gratification
Also on the games that they know won’t go on sale I feel like they would pay
I feel that’s really asking how much you play video games more than anything else
I believe that first statistic wholeheartedly because some platforms are switching over to minimum subscription length
Also because that's what I do. Subscribe, watch a show, cancel a couple weeks later
I’m not saying how dare they have delayed gratification. I’m just commenting on the state of the economy and what I’ve heard about the Gen Z struggle to straight up survive financially.
I just felt like that statistic in particular was funny given that additional piece of context
Theres a reason why weekly epps comming out or batches of epps comming out take place over like 10 or 15 weeks
Im actually very much in favour of weekly epps and like hour long epps comming out in seasons of about 15 epps
I've never heard of minimum subscription length being a thing in streaming (so far)
I mean then you just watch it 10-15 weeks later if you’re the type of person subbing for one month to watch a show
Not to mention Steam works in a way where you are kind of incentivised to wait around for a discount deal.
The same way as the 70% no physical copies stat just feels like more a problem of the industry not providing these things rather than the opposite.
Elden Ring movie thoughts ||You know, I wonder how much the movie is gonna play up the Marika = Radagan twist. It occurred to me that in Elden Ring, that's essentially the only meaningful revelation in the story. Everything else is Go To Place, Kill The Biggest Fella, Move On||
elden ring movie + game ||the only other twists I could see them playing up are the ranni quest ones or the miquella related ones. The latter seem almost assuredly outside the movie's scope, and the former likely are also, but I could see some manner of reveal made out of ranni being behind the night of the black knives even if ranni's storyline isn't the main focus. We might also get a reveal about Melina's true parentage, if they want to canonize something not explicit within the game itself||
||it really depends on how much of a specific story is being told, vs how much the movie is just being elden ring, generally, as a whole. A lot of the questlines and endings in elden ring could be written as a movie plot, but screen time for that would be at the expense of generally elden ring things along the main, basic path||
||funniest possible outcome: the movie reveals info about the gloam eyed queen and lore debates now have to argue forever as to that info's canonicity||
Elden Ring ||I forgot you don't know Ranni is behind the knight of black knives going in. That's a good point. Really, exploring Marika and her kids and their messy messy relationship is where I'd put 100% of the focus. It's where all the juicy stuff is. But yeah, I don't see all the Miquella stuff being part of the movie.||
||Honestly, if the movie even mentions the GEQ I'd be shocked (with the balls of it)||
||I think the ranni storyline is one that would work well as a relatively self contained movie plot, given it has a cast of associated characters and can dovetail into maliketh and destined death being part of mandatory main progression (which otherwise might feel strangely tacked on if the movie doesn't cover the rune of death in some way beforehand, whether through ranni or fia's questlines), but it would spend a lot of time underground in the eternal cities in a way that wouldn't deliver on the basic recognizeable main path elden ring set pieces||
speculation + set leaks ||we've seen what appeared to be redmane knights, so radahn is likely going to come up in the movie. Makes sense as a major elden ring story beat to hit, and keeping the story cohesive would probably dictate tying that in to other plotlines in another way beyond just getting shards of the elden ring, so the movie might lean into the malenia and scarlet rot angle of it, or with the "holding back the stars" angle and the meteorite that opens the way to nokron||
Elden Ring ||I could absolutely see the movie doing Lucaria with Rennala (to set up Radagan), Caelid with Radahn, Lleyndel for Morgott and then up in the air on whether we go to the giants peak before going back to Lleyndel for the final fight||
||This is assuming the movie is gonna be a series of boss fights but honestly who knows||
Long sleeves + short skirt is always kinda a funny look
oooh
Finally seeing the light of day after being an on-off project since the 90’s
I wonder how its animation will look. Like, this may just be a promotional image, but I'd watch a whole movie animated how this promo looks.
It looks really similar to the promo for Incredibles, which had a very different animation style. So I'm not terribly optimistic
I'd like it too though
So its not a movie about a disgraced competitive breakdancer?
Brad Bird does crazy concept art but in general some of the more plain Incredibles concept art was translated 1:1
Other Incredibles concept art he made was WOAH
:
Other art you can see they just took the abstract 60’s style Brad uses and made the scene from there
great art
Greart, if you will
Okay it’s been over half a year since I caught up on SAGA, the comic had already been on a half year hiatus when I did catch up, so I bet there are at least a few new chapters out…

MATT REEVES POSTED THIS
Watching one of the Bond movies and the amount of infrastructure damage is taking me out of it 😭
reeve's batmobile is potentially the coolest thing I've ever seen in theaters
Watching this scene in IMAX during opening night was genuinely a life changing experience https://youtu.be/iSLVSi3EgSM?si=_ExwL8kL8IREeP_o
The scene that made us all shiver when we watched it for the first time (and the second, and the third, and the forth).
The Batman is available on HBO MAX and Blu-ray. All rights belong to Warner Bros.
Ngl for ne the sound system in a proper imax theater is arguably more powerfuly immersive than the screen
If The Batman sequel gives as good a car chase as the first one did I'll be happy
Which, frankly, high bar
Car chases fell off in the Marvel era
when exactly does the "Marvel era" start?
probably when Avengers came out
Yeah about then
In the 2000s in particular car chases were a staple of action films in a really general sense
But of course they don't really make sense in the context of many superheroes
Tangential but I think John Woo's Once A Thief has my fav car chase
The first one is kinda meh but the big mid movie climax had my jaw on the floor
I thought the car chase in Ant-Man and the Wasp was pretty cool, what with the shrinky-phasey gimmicks going on.
I hope I like supergirl enough to push my non-dc fan friends to go
I should've with Superman
lol yes
Golden eye?
Casino Royal
Huh I wouldn’t have clocked that as a big structural damage one.
I come to y'all in a time of great need. I am going to see Mortal Kombat II tonight, I have yet to see the first one. Can I get a quick summary of the first movie so I don't miss any crucial plot elements?
Any good movies in the theaters right now?
Is the drama on near you still?
I don't see it.
Mortal Kombat II just came out and I assume it's going to sweep the Oscar's next year, so you could watch that
Do I need to see the first one?
I hope not, I haven't seen the first one either and I'm going to see it tonight
I'm guessing if you ask a fan of the franchise they'd say yes but it'll probably be fine
I'm going with a friend who gets upset that I watch movies out of order a lot, I'll ask if there's anything I need to know from the first movie just as it's starting
I think most movies are made with the intent that it should be accessible to someone who hasn't watched anything else before, even if it tries to reward people who have
Depends on the movie and the franchise, really. In most cases movies will remind audiences of what happened in the last one since the general viewer only watches a given movie once or twice, and this has the added effect of bringing outside audiences up to speed.
It wasn't until after I saw Thunderbolt* that I found out that all of those characters had movies prior to that one, and I never felt lost. But if you watch Dune Part Two before Part One you'll probably be decently confused for a hot minute
I think some of that is just Dune, like, watching Part One is gonna also decently confuse you
but sure, it's probably less accessbile as a standalone movie than some
That's fair yeah. More the distinction I meant was that some sequels are "the next story" and some sequels are "the rest of an unfinished story"
That being said, I'll always err on the side that you're probably fine if you jump in partway through. I think sometimes people underestimate their ability to figure out what's going on
Movies get taken out of theaters way too fast these days
I’ve heard The Sheep Detective is a very good murder mystery
I want to see that one!
I decided to go watch it because I was right near the theater and it was at the right time.
oh, I didn't realize that was already out
that might be a today release
Describing Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy as having swagger is 100% correct
Oh nice I thought sheep detective looked cute
Anyways here me out for the new James bond nothing changes character wise, except shes a woman
Now with the latest set of Invincible done, we can return to our regular scheduled Invincible psychoticness………………
The original:
The many, many, many memes:
I need to get back watching that show. I stopped in s2, is the quality still good?
quality in what sense?
It’s good. We just meme how they waist a ‘$2.5mill an episode budget’ with half or more of that to pay voice actors
Mortal Kombat II very good
Which is genuinely hilarious to me because half of those voice actors end up walking away anyway
IM SO HYPEF I SEE IT NEXY WEEK 🤩
I have to see my divas on the big screen

Im 80% sure you can get away with watching mk2 without the first one, but TDWP2 feels a lot bettet with the context of the first, its got cute callbacks~
I am seeking your wisdom cosmic dont let me down
i think you will come out of DWP2 with an Opinion and i can't imagine you having much of one out of MK2
I will post my thoughts in this channel if that sways any votes
That too. DWP2 has something to say and mk2 is just "OWAHHH MORTAL KOMBAAAT 🗣🗣🗣"
I like mortal kombat :3

||a frustrating movie for me. there were a lot of small goofs that built up. some weird dubbing in the opening. the funeral seen being very quick to the point of being jarring. there not really being a climax, structurally. the actually deciding moment of the film happens when anne hathaway calls someone off screen. i feel more could be done with that. im imaging a scene where anne is arguing to lucy liu that the magazine is important, or something similar||
||i do think the characters were likable and the dialogue flowed pretty naturally. i think it also had a well defined generational divide that did not rely on overly cliche sticks||
||an issue i have not just with this film, but with a lot of more modern ones, is that lack of scenes. it feels like there are not smaller objectives or things for the characters to be doing, and so the plot just glides along in an on the rails fashion. i imgaine@novel bearnodding his head sagely at this. i dont think the way the characters handled situations revealed anything about them, bc the situations are, under the hood, make phone calls are get coffee or talk to people at a party||

Just got back from The Sheep Detectives. Very fun, cute and sad movie. I did not predict the killer.
||The doofus cop was hilarious and it was great when he finally solved the crime. The sheep culture stuff was really interesting and sad. Feel so bad for the winter lamb and Sebastian.||
Feels like Dune Fans are intentionally calling Ruin for you at the Dune Day
Instead of Star Wars fans giving you strength and wishes in Star Wars Day
||The Viltrumite is taking over ||
Ehhhhhh!!!!!!!!!
A Magnus Archives listener
Let's gooooo!!!!!!
Time to watch Final Destination
You TMA-ing???
Funny prank everyone i watched MK too
@molten jetty big for you
I really enjoyed it. It is a very clean movie
MK? Lol
Attempting
We’ll see if I stick with it lol but I enjoy it! It’s a matter of free time management tho
Yeah I did a lot of my initial listening while driving back and forth from physical therapy
Yeah I did some listening while playing an MMO or doodling
It also happened to be a cold rainy, dreary summer-fall so it meshed well xD
I binged Season 1 a lot in pandemic and then Season 2 onwards I made it a thing to listen to 1 or 2 episodes a day. One of those while just before I am about to sleep.
There is a 70% chance that it would make me asleep (then I would relisten to the episode awake)
But if not then it is a perfect moment to listen to with the stillness of the night and nothing visually being fed to my eyes to draw attention
they made 2 mortal kombat movies this decade?
didnt know they made one
And finished with Final Destination. Pretty great movie, though I do not understand the twist.
The first movie?
Yep
are you referring to the end when you mean the twist?
FD ||So Alex saves Carter, then Clear, thinking that when he saves someone it skips them.
Six months later Alex mentions he was never targeted...Death then tries to kill Alex, fails, and kills Carter instead.
The twist is they didnt escape. Death just waited.||
Not that, I got that
I mean the twist that ||Clear is before Alex in the death order||
||I think Alex coming to that conclusion is absolutely deranged. He died before Clear in the vision, he sat right in front of her, and the only way his statements make any sense is if he has to make a formal declaration "YES I AM SWITCHING SEATS WITH YOU, WOMAN ASKING TO SWITCH SEATS WITH ME" in order for that to count. The fact that reality assumes that he would have been in his original seat is dumb because there is no world in which he is in his original seat. Not vision, not reality.||
||And Alex has no reason to guess this. This assumption comes from nowhere and has no basis for assumption other than the fact that he isn't dead yet which can be handily explained by the fact that he's rigged this house to the nines (granted he CONFIRMS he's right afterwards when he starts flicking a lighter, but he still had to make the assumption beforehand)||
||"I never moved. Christa asked me to change seats, but I never moved. I would have been up next to Tod. Damn! Why didn't I remember that? I never moved. Clear's seat was in front of mine."
This is what he says, and this entire paragraph doesn't make sense to me. He DID move, in both the vision and reality, the only difference was where he moved to (either next to Tod or the lobby). There's no reason being reminded of Christa should have made him think this.||
||No he doesnt actually move seats in reality, he's panicking and goes to check if the tray will break like in the vision||
||Course it's been...decades? since i saw it so ill defer to you until i can watch it again||
||He doesn't formally move seats, but he still moves. Like I said, this assumes he has to make a formal declaration "Yes I am switching seats" or sitting in that seat in order for it to count and I think that's absolutely insane. Because he's not on the plane. If he was on the plane, he would have switched seats. I doubt those girls would have went to their assigned seats with Alex gone, I think they woulda just sat right in his seat anyway.||
I feel like there's something I'm misunderstanding or overthinking here
But I think the justification is absolutely insane in all regards
Ive seen someone say one of the most recent movies does something with this so 🤷♀️
Interesting
Funniest part is I found such an easy solution to make all of this ||except the statement that he didn't move because thats just a stupid statement that is factually wrong in every possible scenario|| work.
I think a simple solution could be ||that the reason why Alex was able to "save" Carter and Clear was cause Death was screwing with them.
It never skipped anyone and Alex is just wrong, cause six months later Carter gets killed.||
It's just as simple as ||saying Alex was sitting IN FRONT of Clear originally, was asked to switch seats, moved to a seat BEHIND Clear, and then forgot he switched seats and was going off of the seat that was on his plane ticket||
That explains everything nice, simple, succinct
Could be very easily caught by an observant viewer, no BS
||Death gets a...reputation in the franchise that makes this make sense to me xD||
||It skipped to Billy though. Granted, maybe he's just wrong about the death order to begin with, but I dunno I think the idea that Death is going by the order makes more sense for a franchise which presumably upholds that rule. If the movie was standalone I'd believe that a lot more, but knowing there's a franchise to follow, I assume that the assumptions made in this movie are solid||
||Death messing with him makes sense, because he does it in this movie, but I don't think he would break the rules to mess with him||
I need to rewatch these movies but i also cannot
lmfao
they trigger my thanatophohia hard
Like, it gets bad
Anyways i should have been asleep over an hour ago xD
Right??? The seasons just get better and better!
Gen V S2E2 || Emma and Polarity duo is going to be interesting ||
Final Destination 2!
I was gifted a movie voucher but the movie I wanna use it on isnt showing in my state
Oh my GOD Final Destination 2 was god damn AMAZING
You've now experienced the movie that traumatized a generation
I'm just happy ||the kid didn't die in the dentists office||
That freaked me the hell out
||Hell yeah crush him with a window that's way less freaky to me||
... I can't decide if that's all AI, or just some of the signs
I honestly think it's regular photoshop
some of the edges you can see where it's been cut and pasted
Yaa just looks like a couple modern signs slapped on an old image
AI has different kinds of weirdness
it's mostly the houses for cash sign that's triggering my alarm, yeah
“An old image” like this isn’t the opening of one of the tv shows that reimagined what tv could be
I’m younger than Twin Peaks!
I just really like jt
realtors posing as average joes I think
I think the idea is people who call numbers from those types of signs are less likely to have an agent or realtor of their own and therefore are easier to fleece
sort of like how some scam emails deliberately have typos to self select who responds to them
Uhh the image is still old? What does its cultural impact have to do with its age?
I wasnt putting any value judgements on it
Just saying the truth that the image is old
"Hello, my mom left me her house, I don't really know what the market is like in her area. What sounds good? $5000?"
In theory, if the person on the other end of the number is playing fair, you can get a better deal with something like that because nobody needs to pay a realtor.
Of course, because they're the only prospective buyer, you don't actually interact with the market, so the price they're offering may not reflect the actual market...
I think I'd probably rather go through a realtor simply because it's their job to get a good price.
That, and from my own home buying experience realtors know what you do and don't have to mention when selling a house. People selling without a realtor always bring up more than they should
Oh, absolutely, for the most part using a realtor is probably the right call. But a House4Cash company probably also has a much smaller turnaround time if you need to liquidate the house now to deal with some financial crisis.
That is the exact niche that business is ment to fill
They uasually take houses in any state
As in they will take a house as is
Dirty or disgusting or filled with trash
Is it a recent image?
No they are saying it is an old image but not just "any old image" but from a very profound thing that changed tv landscape and they feel it is reductive to call it just that. Honestly I don't have any idea what is this an opening to either but that is because I am not an American boy. I just larp as one by having watched stuff like FRIENDS, Office and HIMYM and that is about it.
Youve never heard of Twin Peaks?
It was a rhetorical question
oh you mean Farstrider
I guess I have. At most I have seen some spoiler bars for people watching it either here or in some other discord, nowhere else though. That's the one with Cillian Murphy right?
...i cant tell if you're doing a bit
I am not...
In fact, my first guess at what this could be an opening of, I thought it was X Files or something.
Twin Peaks is the show that basically started the genre of “weird small town has a bunch of paranormal stuff going on and its a mystery”
Peaky Blinders is the Cillian Murphy show
oh
Your Welcome To Nightvales your Alan Wakes etc
is that so
yeah it did give the eerie paranormal small town "things are not as they seem vibes" with just one image which is also edited. So honestly pretty aptly made opening (at least this shot)
Peaky Blinders is peak, except for the parts which suck ass
which is like a good 60% of the show excluding the closeups of Cilian Murphy's eyes and wideshots of him aura farming
how did they make him twinkier
hes a clone of CLark is what i meant mostly
Yes, Conner Kent has always been a clone of Superman made by Project Cadmus. Usually mixed with Lex Luthor’s dna because Luthor is trying to babytrap Clark just that egotistical
He’s gonna be voiced by Darren Criss too, who voiced Superman in the TomorrowVerse animated movies and played Music Meister in the ArrowVerse
The guy from glee?
Yup
Has Lex been introduced in that show yet?
Minor MAWS ||yeah, he’s just called “Alex” in season 1 but he’s revealed to be Lex Luthor in S2||
Probably playing, Fallout General ||The Courier|| no?
I hope not
i doubt the courier is appearing
funniest answer is kimball lol
Hes obviously playing a deathclaw
Hes obviously plaiyng my OC
The show is post nv the courier is long gone
Halfway to Denver

At this point, IVE been cast in Man of Tomorrow
Why are food movies always making us hungry?!
From the Hollywood Reporter article where they got this from
Very interesting that they’re keeping details of his character under wraps
Lol, I never imagined that Michael B. Jordan would be producing romantasy
Michael b Jordan???
@keen flax
Michael B Jordan is executive producing a show based on a famous dragon-based fantasy series you may have heard of 👀
I cannot even begin to determine how much agony this brings me
Thanks to him im gonna be sat for this 😌
Didn’t they already announce this show years ago?
I thought they got so far as casting an Aussie guy as the pretty boy love interested
i can feel @keen flax 's conflicted energy
My poor bf, im gonna hold him hostage so I can yell at him about this after I watch the first episode in solidarity 😔💔
sorry what
Michael B Jordan??
Yeah that's kinda out of left field.
Would be funnier if it was Michael J Jordan
Honestly I'll probably watch it
tbh i thought they were related
I’ll definitely watch it
I remember when my mom bought me Fourth Wing for Christmas. I didn’t say anything but I did chuckle and she asked why. I then told her that it was the “dragon smut” book.
The real joke though was she let me go get another book and I ignorantly got the second Kingkiller book so… 💀
I may actually get caught up with the boys in time for the finale. Gen V S2 finale time
I remember when I met my 65 year old dad for dinner and a caps game and at dinner he told me he was listening to Fourth Wing
