Aegon's conquests aren't really one of them imo, it'd be a lot of retreading of stuff we've seen a lot of
I forgot which modern jet was the bomber but you get my point
||Why does the funny beard man author like incest so much||
||the Targ's are meant to show what happens when there's a genetic component to magic||
stuff I'd prefer to see a movie made about: [asoiaf]
||- Robert's Rebellion
- The Doom of Valyria
- The Long Night (westeros perspective)
- The Long Night (great empire of the dawn perspective)
- Any new Dunk and Egg story||
I’d like to see a redo of the main game of thrones show with a better ending 😭
in 20 years this will happen, I believe
I caved…
Still buying it on 4K blu ray as soon as I possibly can and streaming it multiple times when it drops on Paramount+.
It’s a genuine crime that Paramount pulled this movie from theaters…
Not only that but 0 marketing so far. No trailers. Nothing. Absolutely criminal how they’re treating this IP and all of the incredible work that was done
I’m genuinely fuming
It bc would be funnier if they did a movie on every person named aegon in the setting
It definitely is finished. Though an extended cut/director’s would certainly be welcome
I hope people show so much support for this movie in October
i dont think so theres too much money invested marketing based off the show more than the books themselves
where? HBO has dropped the original Thrones show like a tungsten rod
All their marketing is focused on the new thrones show
merchandising is a better word tbh
a new show would mean more merchandising
like, Disney is perfectly happy to do live action moana despite the fact that I'm positive that they are making much more money from moana merch than hbo is making from game of thrones merch
I think this would be a very boring movie
I dont think we get a thrones remake until the series is finished or george dies
those dumbass mobile games that HBO put at the start of KOTSK seemed more to me like "guys guys remember the show" but idk seems like too much invested in banking off nostalgia to want to do a new show
You seem to be overestimating how much it costs to make mobile game slop
Afaik that games been around for at least a few years
Its existence has no bearing on whether they make a new show in 10 or 20 years
but also dont see it happening until after the books are finished so that gives us 50 years until they reboot it
What
Books background lore ||I think it could make a good movie, but not as a war/conquest movie. I think it could work well as a dramatic movie, told from the perspective of either the North or Dorne, who politic'd their way around the conquest instead of caving on the battlefield.||
||that’s fair but it’s probably just gonna be about Aegon and his sister wives wrecking everyone for 2 hours||
||Probably. I just think they should write the targs as a force of nature, rather than protagonist/antagonist, and make the story be about how Westeros adjusts to their influence.||
There's no good outcome to getting into ASOIAF now
Wait until Winter, when we've failed to get the next book
Reading the books is worth it regardless of if you have to wait for winds or not
There is, the good outcome is you read some good books
Sometimes you have to get through a whole series before learning that the author never wrapped it up, at least here you know in advance
And you get a much better explanation than, "sometimes life doesn't wrap everything up"
Best thing is to not care about endings. So bad ending or incomplete series won't suck at all
😎
Common take
Personally I don't see how an ending can remove the journey you had with a piece of story for a long time
I think rather than GoT show having a bad ending, its having a considerably weaker second half
It can negatively impact or even ruin established things
GOT all example ||Jaime saying he never cared about the people and then going back to Cersei||
GOT S5E6 || Can this piece of crem Ramsay die already? 🤬||
|| Why does Sansa have to get all the trauma? 😞||
Can just not count it man
it doesn't have to ruin the show

I don't have issues with even dream endings if its for long series
or any
Well that first one is a stage play now lol
That is one of the most controversial epps because of that
Y’all I’m not gonna lie I’m so excited to watch seven havens. I’m just so excited for more avatar content
Based on what we just saw, DIGGER appears to be Tom Cruise playing Jerry Jones in a Roy Andersson movie directed by Michael Bay. I don’t think I’m exaggerating with this description.
“Tom cruise playing Jerry jones” yeah that’s all I needed to hear
I literally had a dream last night that I met Tom Cruise and he knew my name but was coyly refusing to explain how
This man is everywhere
Should’ve done a stunt, he would’ve answered all your questions
True, he's similar to some sort of woodland spirit in that sense
Asoiaf ||my pitch is to make the Targs ancillary and focus on the Harren the Black rule of the Riverlands through the lens of the Brackens and Blackwoods||
Asoiaf ||if they want something that will have dragons i feel like the Doom would be a much more interesting movie plot||
But I think that'd reveal things George doesn't want
Im already worried the film being made is going to reveal too much about that, let alone this 😂
dammit im at s2e9 of for all mankind and i jsut cant help but feel the hope
its really helping me hope for a better future and the line of "we just have to choose not to kill today"
is so important
Gonna have to show it at some point
They very much dont have to 😂
Don’t have context here, did Godzilla also go to NYC in one of the bad movies or something?
A movie so bad we shall never speak its name or acknowledge its existence
There are bad movies
Then you go further beyond and wraps back around to a It’s So Bad it’s Good movie
Very few go even further beyond this point and goes back to…….oh…… this is just bad
Okay I'm not gonna stand for this
American Godzilla is a perfectly fine monster movie
Yeah sure it's not the best but it ain't so bad it's good, it's decent and fine and I watched it when I was like 10 and it was the first movie I saw in the cinema without my parents and so I will not stand by and let it be slandered like this
It’s not a real Godzilla movie but it is an ok monster movie
Yeah not talking about Legendary Godzilla 😛
It’s so funny that immediately after it’s came out, Japan Toho immediately revoked American studios permission to use it until Monsterverse Godzilla
The next immediate Japan Godzilla movie that came out has our Big Radiation Boy Beating The Absolute Snot out of a big lizard that looks suspiciously similar to the one the American movie in the B plot of the film
Godzilla is about nukes, right? so it does feel ... appropriate for there to be USA/Japan infighting over it
They were going for a vibe, it wasn't a Godzilla vibe, and it was... fine. Also very much not understanding of Godzilla. But it was a fun blockbuster for a kid.
Well it was more like ……. “Oooooookkkkkayyyyyyyy America, we will give you permission to make a Godzilla movie. You won’t mess it up and make a really stupidly bad movie riiiiiiiight???”
Plus this great turn of the millenia advertising
Hugh Jackman???
lol
He does kind of looks like Hugh Jackman in that poster though
Imagine the casting process for Wolverine
"Man what a unit of a character. How'll we even get someone to play him?"
"I know right? We'll need a huge jacked man."
-# (Famously Hugh Jackman did not think wolverines were a real animal, and method acted Wolverine as a wolf for a few months until someone showed him one)
usually, not always
sometimes godzilla is about corrupt bureaucracy, sometimes it's climate change, yet other times it's born from the vengeful dead
Im so curious how they are gonna translate that game into a movie narrative
i feel like it demands to be surrealist arthouse
Reference to jacksepticeyes’s style of videos?
Never watched him so i don’t understand this
it's a joke about Bloodborne
Hmmm
there's dungeons you go into to grind stuff, and they have different internal ids
that one is a meme
-# Context of joke ||There are like (4.8 quadrillion^google) randomized side dungeons in bloodborne. Each one can be entered by slapping random letters together.||
-# ||One code, cummmfpk, was discovered one day by a silly little dude. Suddenly upon entering the dungeon 300 enemies just fall off a cliff and die instantly, as if the ground they are supposed to be on just isn’t there, and all the bloodecho points went to the player like they killed them.||
-# ||The silly dude shared this with everyone on internet, and every bloodborne player uses it as a “optional cheat” if you don’t want to farm blood echos legitimately||
Oh, apparently Sony isnt animating the movie
They are just distributing it, this is the company behind the movie https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lyrical_Media
Theyve never done an animated movie
And are also currently working on a Death Stranding animated movie
I’m 5”0, they should cast me as Wolverine

How do you feel about Hide and Seek ooc?
Ooc?
Started watching Jet Lag recently and despite it kind of being their flagship, I think Hide and Seek is the worst game they play of the ones ive watched
Out of curiosity
I like hide and seek the most.
Haha fair
For me it feels a bit repetitive, like the seekers kind of do mostly the same thing each round
I like a place being showcased and not a single challenge, you feel like you get to know it more.
Ive watched the UK and Japan hide and seek games
I think kind of a major issue is that it would be more interesting if they made more mistakes but theyre pretty good at the game 😅
It makes me feel involved and try to guess where they are...
so they just sort of zero in on the hider each time
using generally the same questions
They've messed up sometimes though.
I did enjoy the Japan one much more than the UK too
Japan I think had a lot more train lines
Hide and seek Switzerland was my favorite.
Especially local train lines
Which helped them to start making mistakes
Whereas here in the UK we dont really have local trainlines
Better than the US, I feel jealous watching any public transportation videos.
i still think new zealand is the best season theyve ever done
No talk. 🙊
The ticket they use for the UK isnt even available for citizens I believe, only tourists 😔
How does that work? I don't really understand how public transportation payment stuff works.
So if you use the britrail pass you need to be able to prove that you are a foreign citizen if asked
Now
Does anyone ever actually check, i think thats up for debate
So is it actually cheaper or something?
Cheaper than individual trains absolutely 100% for the amount theyre using
If you were just taking a couple of train journeys probably not but definitely for going to several cities on a trip
You would think brits would get the cheaper fare.
Train tickets are so expensive
Apparently citizens have a thing called the all line rover that ive never heard of before
But individual tickets are so killer here
Theres a young adults railcard that gets you 33% off any train but theyre still expensive
That railpass costs you £30 a year but if you take trains even just a few times youll pay it off for sure
According to trainline the britrail pass for foreigners is £258 for 8 days, and according to national rail, the all line rover for residents is £625 for 7 days
@velvet oriole
I wonder if the government subsidizes the the britrail pass to attract tourists
Because if not, thats a stupidly insane difference
yeah that's a good tourism ad for the uk thank you lloyd
Haha
Definitely come here over the spring and summer, as a people we can be pretty doom and gloom but it is absolutely beautiful here if you get out into the small towns and villages and the countryside beyond them
£625 for 7 days of unlimited travel (mostly offpeak only)
oh I didn't read further down
still, that's a storming insane price
I could go Gatwick to Edinburgh and back for "only" £200
the hell do you need to do to make that worth while
and your lucky if the trains arrives with 7 days
Trains are usually good for me
But the trains out of my town end up in London
I dont generally have issues
Like after watching jet lag, essentially every single time they step in a German train station, its a worse experience than ive ever had in the UK
I’ve been having a good streak recently with tfl so I’m not going to say anything to jinx that right now
Ultimate plot twist: Adria Arjona is playing Lana Lang in Man of Tomorrow /s
I Love Boosters def best movie ever
She could be Lori Lemaris, which would be truly out of the left field
trains are always delayed here in belgium at least
First teaser for ‘SPACEBALLS: THE NEW ONE’.
In theaters on April 23, 2027.

I am glad he found Spaceballs: The Money
I like how it's just a pile of loose cash
I suppose that’s an acceptable title if they can’t go with The Search for More Money
My parents are now denying having seen and enjoyed Spaceballs. A film they got from blockbuster just to watch with the whole family
????
I think they just want to rewatch Spaceballs with you
just finished s3e3 for all mankind || i honestly cant wait to see what happens with this race to mars, the series is just again like i said before giving me so much hope about everything in our future. The Boys S5E3 ~14 minutes in: ||So this is Hughie's reckoning episode. Got it||
the whole cast came on stage on The Game Awards
it was very silly (kind of lowly)
agreed that the movie looks great though
Seated for
Lmk what you think of it
Don't think you'd enjoy these type of movies
Wha
Why wouldn't I lol
Also 9/10 absolutely floored
You seem to have widely different taste between books and movies
Has some insensitivities but otherwise near perfect action adventure
I do yeah lol
It's a wuxia
I'm much more open to things for movies
Since it's a much lower time sink
Books I have a very specific taste in
Like I'd almost certainly not like a dialogue only romance book
But Before Sunrise is a top 10 for me
All the Donnie Yen ones but it's been a while
Yeah, from what I vaguely remember, the TGA bit felt like they were told they had <number> minutes of stage time, assumed that'd include trailer/reveal runtime when it didn't, and they may have been enjoying the festivities.
This trailer looks like they know they're the spiritual successor to a cult classic "Bad Movie", so they're showing off the increased budget and doubling down on the campiness. They aren't trying to make the characters feel like real people, because they aren't
I think unless they mess something up badly, it'll be a great background noise movie
Toon Turf pilot || RIP Billy I was not expecting such a horrifying death 😭💔||

Is Project Hail Mary any good? I’m thinking of going to see it this weekend.
Its worth seeing in theaters
biggest screen you can possibly get
https://x.com/HollywoodHandle/status/2044829370506969589 He shouldve stayed dead
Is this to counteract the IMAX screens of Dune?
I doubt Dune has anything to do with it
They aren't rolling out a whole new format just for Dune
Because Dune IMAX tickets sold out and that may have made a statement
Hell didn't they change the premier of Doomsday
No it’s because of competition and making new tech to make money
Is this even making new tech?
New filming/theater screen techniques
Its because imax has been super popular in the 2020s so they need their own imax related product based around that
I'm sure they're watching Dune, that isn't what I'm saying, I'm saying this is too bit to just be about Dune
So that Disney can’t pay imax no more
Based on the tweet its just a list of theaters that meet certain specs
How is this related to imax?
I imagine some or most of the theaters on this list will have imax support
Imax is a brand that sells a product in vaguely the same industry as disney, so this is step one of stamping out a brand
The big idea will be to have Infinity Vision cinemas down the line
Omg
Trailer is coming and the descriptions are already coming out
I don't know if this is accurate but the marketing for this movie I'm sure they're paying a total of a billion dollars or something close
Peak
That's a lot of money to spend.
Even if it's not a total flop, which I doubt it would be, that says they're basically banking on it making as much as Endgame.
I think I'm not too far off from what they're investing
There is no way in hell it makes endgame money. That was a once in a lifetime lighting in a bottle
no, I don't think it was just "luck"
It was several years of construction, now they are trying to replicate that by saying that it is the continuation of those years and a few more
I don't think the mcu is in the right place to achieve another endgame moment
I'm not trying to say it was luck, it was the capstone of different factors and years of trust that they don't have anymore
They're really throwing everything away for this movie
And reading the descriptions of the trailer and the statements they just gave
hasn't it been like multiple years since endgame
What they're trying to do is convince people that they shouldn't see what happened after the endgame, or at least not all of it
(In world)
Definitely seems like they're marketing this as a sequel to endgame (with a few little new things)
Rather than a proper culmination of everything since endgame
There are like a dozen new characters that got introduced post-Endgame in Doomsday
I guess they're trying to make something like the Cosmere? Like a WaT?
Wild how this take stays around despite being completely wrong
But the majority of the marketing, imo, has been centred around things you can pick up from straight from endgame, only needing one or two movies to catch up
They might be in the movie but aside from the chair live stream I don't think Marvel has really promoted them being in the movie or the movie being about them or that you should see the movie for them
A lot of the promotion has been like... centered on the leads of endgame, about how it follows up endgame
Uff, I want to see the trailer
Well they were featured pretty heavily in the footage they showed today
They have shown it and have not taken a photo despite it being allowed
If there had been a trailer for the [mcu] ||new avengers|| in the set of trailers I wouldn't be saying this
That might change my mind then
When/if we get it
And there was a trailer dedicated to Shuri as BP, Namor, and the Fantastic Four
yes, like I said, they're like a couple of extra things
????
Eh. One of those characters was around pre-endgame and another came from their most standalone movie yet
But i haven't seen the full proper official trailer so I might change my mind there
Maybe they're running it like a Stormlight Archive, showing references, but certain things important to the plot are the original Avengers we already know
Really not sure how you’re coming to that conclusion
I do think that if post-endgame hadn't been such a flop, then they wouldn't rely on the old avengers so much for marketing this
Some movies weren't, and that's why they're using those as an anchor to connect them
They definitely are using RDJ and Chris Evans to hype up the movie in marketing but I don’t think that means the entire movie will be like that
Be aware that they are also using the marketing of making a good story, using the Russo brothers
And it has worked for them because they have managed to get my family interested in the film
And my family is over 50
The only post Endgame movie I like is the one with zero followup lol
Hell that one's straight up fav MCU movie
Yep, like I said, they're trying to convince us that it's a good movie, not just fan service
Millions of good reasons I'm sure
How many zeroes does that reason have, Chris
The jacket is green for a reason
I'm sure RDJ's grandchildren will continue to enjoy the check for this movie
As I'm reading, they say this is a real Doom, not a Doom Stark
I think "shouldn't" is probably an overstatement but "absolutely don't need to feel obligated to see everything or really anything post-Endgame" is probably closer to the truth
They seem extremely aware that a huge chunk of their audience has fallen off the wagon, though I'm not sure I think they've identified why correctly
They're not going to release the trailer, are they?😭
They've shown the trailer twice, it's impossible that someone didn't record it
The fact that doomsday has had multiple trailers already and meanwhile the adult Aang movie…
And yet we know far more about one than the other
The most interesting thing I’ve learned from this event is that they’re still making Ice age movies
I just saw that paramount released a trailer for the live action street fighter
I'm still waiting for the baby to come back😭
I have 0 doubt in my mind that the adult Aang movie if put in theaters would make more money than the live action street fighter movie
As someone that loves animation, people consistently underestimate the Western stigma towards cartoons
While the Street Fighter movie has punching, kicking, and swearing, so it's clearly mature and for adults
I feel like if demon slayer can make 130 million in the west, avatar could easily make far more than that
Idk I feel like a street fighter movie is still more niche despite the LA vs animation aspect
Atla is super popular within a niche adult audience, its not particularly huge outside of that
Street Figher looks awful and I think it will make a killing
Street Fighter looks like an amazing crempost of a movie
Yeah it looks like the right kind of bad
Yeah ATLA has a ton of street cred for millennials but I really haven't seen it be anywhere near as big for gen Z
Depends which end of gen z youre talking
Its popular for VCR Gen Z
Less known in ipad kid gen z circles
I'm 2005 and idk a single ATLA fan irl
Even for VCR gen Z they didn't watch it as children
Including myself
ATLA did poorly among children even when it was new. Its audience was primarily older teenagers
Who were not buying toys
Yeah mostly watched it as teenagers or adults
I was 20 lol
Just watched the trailer and I will agree with that.
Wait, for real? I feel like I remember it being quite popular as a kid
Doing poorly with children is the root of all Avatar's problems
*also clarifying, popular within its niche
They couldn't sell toys and Nickelodeon never figured out an alternative monetization scheme that made sense and worked
Or at least, being bad at selling merch to children
I think my fav show growing up was Transformers Prime
It was back when mainstream culture hadn't quite realized being nerdy was socially acceptable now, so they probably could've made bank with stylized clothes that weren't obviously a reference to a kids show, but I don't know if anyone at Nick would've greenlit something like that
That would probably have helped but even so nothing sells quite like kids' toys
Which is what Nickelodeon's primary business really is
Gotta get them started on microplastics early
(It also doesn't help that the other times there have been Avatar movies or revivals, it doesn't seem to have worked out)
Or, at the risk of triggering a Cosmic Crashout, spiritual successors
While for Street Fighter, Video Game movies are apparently working now, and SF games have been successful enough for long enough that they released a new mainline title a few years ago
I mean... yeah it wasn't the property's fault in the case of the movie or the live action.
And paramount also kinda shot Korra repeatedly
To the businessman, it doesn't matter who's fault a property's failure is, just that it's consistent
It's low-key remarkable that the new movie exists at all
I mean the show did fantastic on Netflix
Or the Netflix show, honestly
The animated show did fantastic on Netflix that is
I'm not nearly as down on the live action Netflix show as I think most are, but it wasn't great either
Only a businessman with 0 self-awareness
So did Friends, and it only got a one-off resurrection special
(My TLDR on the Netflix live action is that most of its sins are just amplifications of the original show's sins, which are very plentiful in s1 which is nearly bad)
I enjoyed the Netflix show when I watched it in the moment. I definitely was able to see the faults more in hindsight. But in the moment I was just like... I'm happy to have more avatar stuff lol
I... dont really know how to feel about more ATLA stuff tbh. Like my inner child me is like "yipee gimmie gimme" but deep down I know they are NOT catching the lightning in the bottle again.... and lord have they tried 💀
I haven't watched the live action show (I probably will at some point), but from what I read of the synopsis on Wikipedia, it sounds like they missed several key points of the animated show.
So like im still hyped for the movie and seven Havens, but... mmm
I'm a simple man. If you slap Avatar on it, I'm going to enjoy myself
I'm really curious to see what you end up thinking of the movie in October. Or even a damn trailer if they ever decide to drop one
I mean its still 6 months away
The thing that's wild to me is that Paramount ordered 2 seasons of Seven Havens and supposedly they have internally greenlit another 2 seasons.
So you have that, yet they have this movie 6 years in the making. Meant to be a one-two punch between that and Seven Havens to kick off the start of establishing Avatar as a more relevant modern IP.
And then you pull said movie from theaters. A movie that would be incredible to see in IMAX - I say as someone who has watched a total of one IMAX movie and would have paid to see it in IMAX multiple times. Said movie that sees a few leaked clips generate something like 29 million views on twitter on one post in a matter of like 8 hours?
Like... you form Avatar Studios and write them a blank check. You give them the time to ramp up on a bunch of projects. And then you just pull the rug out from underneath it all? While simultaneously still greenlighting more?
Their strategy really makes no sense
Id expect a trailer soonish but its not surprising there isnt one yet
There hasn't even been a single officially revealed image
They had some merch leak on target a few weeks ago, which was the first actual look since the one still from cinemacon or comiccon or whatever a few years back - which wasn't supposed to be released to the press either, but was leaked
Me too! I hope and pray its good, I really do. Im always hella dissapointed when I dont like a ATLA thing
harshly glares at the 2010 movie
I really hope Seven Havens is good. Clearly even if it's bad, I'm going to like it. But I hope it's good
Aha yall thought i was gonna bring up korra again huh 🥴
Is it an imax film?
Actually I have 0 clue. I've historically ignored IMAX. I've only seen PHM in IMAX, and I wouldn't go pay IMAX prices for a movie save for like... Avatar and Spiderverse
Don't some movies release in IMAX even if they weren't shot on IMAX cameras or made specifically for IMAX?
Like I feel like people make a big deal out of it when movies are actually shot on IMAX cameras
And obviously ik this is animated so it's different
But point still stands @ non-imax media still airing in imax theaters
Maybe I'm just super dumb but I just thought IMAX was basically like a higher quality image and then like if you did the IMAX cameras there's an aspect ratio factor
It looks like IMAX cameras have specific technical specs?
So aspect ratio is part of it, but there's more to it than that
What I'll say is I genuinely very much enjoyed the movie and immediately wanted to watch it again after I finished it. But I'm only allowing myself the one viewing of it prior to October.
I think it's good. Definitely not perfect. But good.
There is a specific aspect ratio (or two?), and the projectors apparently just outright work differently?
I am very excited to watch it in 4K on my LG OLED
If letterboxd considers a film just in the Chinese language, does it mean Mandarin?
Like the film moves horizontally instead of vertically, for non-digital formats
Gotcha, interesting
Regardless, I would have paid and still would pay to see the movie at full price multiple times in theaters
I imagine it'll be obvious why once they drop a trailer, should they ever decide to do so
Also as I look at news coverage on the leak, it's wild how often I'm seeing it covered with the wrong name
Which of course is understandable
Who the hell thought Avatar Aang The Last Airbender was a good name
Or that The Legend of Aang The Last Airbender (the old name) was a good name
Invincible S4E7

Re: earlier discourse- I'm so curious how MCU will incorporate the X-Men, especially with so many original actors (as much as I love Alan Cumming, I recognize he is not as spry as he was in 2003)
But also, I loved the fox-men movies even though they weren't good. Like bestie and I genuinely had a GREAT time during the apocalypse movie with Oscar Isaac as big blue
the pitt s2 ||The season focused too much on Robby, and not enough focus on McKay and Samira, imo. A lot of the latter half of the season was the same conversation on repeat. Patient and medical stories fell behind because the season had to make room for "Robby wants to kill himself" story.||
The comics have silliness to a degree so it was always going to be a fool's errand to make them Very Serious
Oh no
The Pitt s2 is complete now?
We’ll see if I can slot the season in this weekend.

Thoughts on the Netflix live action?
Oooh I think a movie I've been looking forward to is out now 👀
I admittedly didnt touch it because of what I heard they did differently so I have no idea. I will say that the casting is absolutely excellent though
One for the Nootwatcher, I feel.

Italian voice actor Carlo Bononi was the voice of all of the characters on Pingu. A trained clown by trade, he used a theater technique called grammelot, which consists of "speaking" in a mix of babbled gibberish noises. He improvised all the voices live and unscripted.

Lucky, I would go if I was on that side of the Atlantic. Hopefully it shows some other places.
WAIT WHAT?? THIS ARTICLE SAYS THERES A STATIC SHOCK MOVIE IN DEVELOPMENT?? https://variety.com/2026/tv/news/the-phantom-live-action-tv-series-reginald-hudlin-1236724486/

God pls let it be good
I wonder if they'll update Static's cultural tone to be more Gen X or Alpha
Static Shock movie!? 👀
Reminds me of the newspaper comic Curtis, about a black middle class Americn family where the sliding timescale means that while at one point the dad hated hip hop and rap. However enough time has passed that he’s now a big fan because he would’ve grown up with it
I need him to put a shock to our system 😭
been a while since I watched that... about time to get hyped again
I'm pretty sure that's a different perfect parry

oh, yeah, that's the one I was thinking about
that video is so much hype
I have a playlist of hype videos to watch at least once a year...haven't watched any this year yet
well, technically I "watched" one
. It's the ride of the Rohirrim in RotK...which I watched the whole movie last night hehe
uh... playlist started as hype videos, but I started adding some other stuff to it it seems xD
there's some uh ... videos I think are very funny in it as well lol

Korra fans stay losing I guess 😭 😭 😭
I am astonished and interested that they went this way
As a Korra fan, I appreciate seeing that Korra's actions have consequences like that, because that kind of fits her character. TLoK general ||She's the type of Avatar to make significantly world-altering decisions that a lot of people won't like. She's already a publicly controversial figure in her own show.||
ATLA General ||pretty much every Avatar has had to clean up the previous one’s mess, comes with the job||
||While true the complete collapse of human civilization back to 7 cities is insane ||seven havens general
Like their gonna need to do serious convincing on that one
I am pretty sure based on other leaks and rumors there’s a decent explanation
im not going to judge seven havens at all untill i see it
just so much negativity around it and we have seen almost literally nothing about it
Korra all || Mabey its a vatu thing with his avatar and kora gets blamed or something ||
If James Gunn doesn’t include this, he’s a coward
I thought seven havens was the movie that leaked?
seven havens is the upcoming post korra series
The movie that leaked is called something like, Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender
Previously called The Legend of Aang
All the work they have to do to tiptoe around the ways they can use the word Avatar in their titles now because of James Cameron is so stupid
When are they gonna do Frankenstein 2025 already
I can see it for October
its still called the legend of aang
i dont think thats true at all
It's not that they need to tiptoe around it (they existed in the media landscape first, if there's a legal problem with the name, it's James Cameron's problem, not theirs), but that it's a marketing exec's nightmare for someone to buy your not-a-knockoff product thinking it's something else.
I was literally warning someone about the leak the other day, and they said "oh I haven't seen the first or second sequel yet"
The Avatar (movie) sequels being named after The Elements™ doesn't help things 😛
||I can't believe the fire nation attacked shacked up with the enemy|| (blue avatar 3)
To my memory that's what happened with the LA movie
To my recollection Cameron actually had a stronger claim to Avatar as a title for weird arcane legal reasons
Specifically for the Live Action movie he might've because Live Action and Animated could be perceived as sufficiently different, but the comparable case that springs to mind is Apple Corps (the owner of the Beatles' record label) vs Apple Computer, which was repeatedly won by Apple Corps until Apple Computer ended up buying all of Apple Corps' trademarks
JC already had the trademark at least a year before ATLA (and 5 years before the release of Avatar 1)
which is literally why it's "Avatar: The Last Airbender" and not "Avatar"
source: https://variety.com/2022/tv/news/avatar-add-last-airbender-title-james-cameron-rights-1235451817/
Huh, turns out the gap between the start of developing Avatar and its release is longer than the gap between Avatar and Avatar 2
(The first treatment was written in '94)
"at least a year" doing some heavy lifting
Ok so apparently
A fan met Kyle Chandler at a baseball game
And one of things Kyle Chandler said was “keep the squirrel thing at the end of the trailer in mind”
Which works out pretty well considering The Legend of Aang is the international name for some reason
I mean, it's a pretty good reason. "Avatar" has a specific religious meaning.
Concept art goes even further back
Avatar has been a noodle in JC’s brain since 1978
There is mountains upon mountains of ancient concept art
||would’ve been more believable if Korra wasn’t set in an industrialized society||

||the communist - anarchist - fascist theme was very 1920s||
||I think if they had more time I think season 2 would have had more utopians fundamentalists that would have meshed well with s2 || Korra all
||it was a theme ig but the politics isnt really cashed in on. And i don’t think technological progress is as inevitable in such a magic laden world. Also forming a UN city post ATLA felt more like they took the safe road with how to develop the world||
||like there are more themes about technology and political instability in ATLA than korra lmao||
||so at that point why advance the world in such a way then have to backtrack bc you dont want modern tech avatar||
||they sort of mess with this with airbenders returning in s3 and tenzin’s arc but it doesnt really get off the ground||
||I think we map the "rising social instability" onto the post industrial revolution because that's when a lot of revolutionary movements started, so it fits vibes wise||
Korra all ||it just feels like the safest decision at every point. Also the social instability isnt really present until until the earth queen gets killed. Amon’s goals were so strange and orthogonal to tech progress or notions of class||
BND ||I dont like spiderman there all the asme for me||
How dare you, Spider-Man is great
Hes amazing you could say

Maybe even Web Of
I want Spider-Man to go back to having 4 ongoing titles like the 80s and 90s smh
There’s like a .5% chance one of the titles could be good
||Part of his whole angle was that with the available tech benders weren't as relatively powerful as before but still had an outsized voice in politics||
Korra all ||You may want to revisit the plots of the Korra seasons. The first season was more or less about nonbender riots (and nonbenders are absolutely a class), and the second was half about a colonization project.||

The muppets in 2009 really captured the feeling of 2020 zoom calls
sure but hes not my thing
Yeah it really blows my mind. I am very excited to watch it and I find it conceptually quite interesting
It's definitely renamed to Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender.
It's quite literally the title displayed within the movie itself in the title card
That said, most online stuff is still using the old Legend of Aang name, which I think speaks volumes. This movie has just been repeatedly sabatoged and mis-handled
||To Duck's point, admittedly Amon's ulterior motives have nothing to do with class, he's harnessing a more or less existing movement. But that's a heel turn made in the last like two episodes of the season||
||Even the non-boxing boxing arc (which is only like two episodes but feels like half the season because its so poorly paced and placed and punctuated by the horrendous romance arc) is there in no small part to position Korra as an ostensible natural ally of the lower class movement even though she feels obligated to side against them, because terrorism||
||The main villain not caring about the social movement as a way to not actually be forced to engage with the tough topics they masquerade as the true problem to have an easy answer is not only endemic to the Korra clones but to the series itself || Korra all
Korra ||I actually think the series somewhat recovers from this problem||
Oh it does but it’s a dig at rwby and every other Korra knock off
||Season 2, the villain (whose name I can't even remember) is relatively up front about his intentions. Season 3 isn't really a social movement so much as a cult movement, and Zaheer goes hard in the paint on living up to his stated beliefs. Kuvira is a populist-turned-fascist, and she also just straight does what she says she's going to do||
Oh I have bare minimum RWBY experience
What little I saw of it I wouldn't even have called a Korra clone I guess lmao
A bad attempt at anime, maybe
RWBY is like
Idk how to describe it
It’s like if the creative writing project you made in 8th grade was turned into a full fledged production
Yeah that was the vibe I got lmao
One of those things that once you know it’s obvious but it’s distracting you with other stuff
You wouldn’t immediately clock
I'll take your word for it
||The scene where they show up at the evil guys rally is probably the most on the nose korra moment || rwby and korra
I'm not sure I even got that far
I think I watched like a season and a half and I don't remember that anything actually happened
Is that show still going somehow?
It’s been a while since I’ve seen RWBY but I don’t think it’s really a Korra clone. I think they both just have tropes that are fairly common in the genre
anyway I watched PHM and it was great
PHM ||really enjoyed watching Grace and Rocky bond. The early struggles they had communicating were really interesting (although I feel like they skimmed over some stuff to get to the point where they could just talk properly). Film had a somewhat optimistic take on human cooperation but you know what, maybe that's what we need right now||
||now that both Earth and Erid are safe, the implications of the astrophage on both societies could be interesting to explore. Surely they'll send people to each other's planet soon enough||
||actually now that I think about it there's a lot to explore with Erid's culture, which we don't actually know that much about even by the end. Do they have multiple societies, a geopolitical system, etc?||
also Daniel Pemberton cooked on the soundtrack
-# You shouldn't.
Mori why is your username just a dot?
Vol 10 is in...pre-production? Not sure what the specific stage is. Viz bought it up and has been working to get it back on streaming services and has released the previous volumes on new blu-rays
Depression and being informed i should stop expression my feelings through my username
So it's nothing
ooh, sorry to hear that
I'll be honest, that was supposed to be a polite skepticisim "I'll take your word for it", not a "I will take this as fact and incorporate it into my understanding of RWBY henceforth"
xD
I kind of am baffled by the idea of calling anything a "Korra clone" if for no other reason than Korra didn't do very well, and didn't do a ton that was fundamentally original to be a point you could trace things to
You clone successful things, not Korra
I'm curious what the other shows are supposed to be
Like, I guess maybe Voltron, but I wouldn't call that a clone so much as inherited style/inspiration
I dont think korra proved to be that influential, in part bc kids animation just went in a different direction
Also the aforementioned problem of it being unclear what you should take inspiration from
RWBY ||to be clear there is a social movement/terrorist thing that i'll freely admit is not handled well...but it's very different from the Equalists and like, the main villain of that group is definitely not an Amon-like.
the aforementioned rally scene might be inspired, but that's like...where the similarities end||
||also is the rally scene in korra that iconic?||
||Like it's fun but i've seen rally scenes in other places before Korra existed||
The Pit S1 9am ||Really liking this show so far, characters have a lot of depth, really liking Dr Robb so far||
Yeah, the ending of s1 was mega disappointing tbh
||it also means Korra doesn’t have to grow or learn from Amon||
What about Beau from crit role
Also ||Mel my belov||
That was the moment that hooked me onto the show more than anything else. Korra S1 E3 ||Amon rising onto the stage to thunderous applause, giving us our first view of him while his sinister theme blares around you was aura. Especially the way his looking up was timed to the beat of the music. I thought it was iconic.||
||its a good scene but idk if you say the rally scene to a random korra fan they would know immediately what you are referring to||
On this day in 1938, Superman made his first ever appearance in Action Comics #1! Happy anniversary to the Man of Steel, the Man of Tomorrow, and the world’s greatest superhero!
|| Just an amazing person in general. My standouts from the first episodes were also her and Whitaker from the newbies. I don't remember who stuck out to me among the adults. (Can't say Robby, that feels like cheating)||
Well sure but also I took Gneiss' statement as "Korra-the-show" more than "Korra-the-character"
Wonder who he could be playing
Either way, great actor and I’m glad he’s in it
Korra S1 all || Having watched Korra a couple times, I can confirm. My mind jumped to the scene where he shows he can take away bending for the first time. Unsure if that’s the same scene or something else. If it’s the same scene then yeah, so good. I really dug S1 and Amon as a villain ||
I've always wondered if Bart Edwards (Witcher TV show Emhyr) knew that Charles Dance had also played Emhyr in the video game
Big shoes to fill even if Dance has like all of thirty lines in Witcher 3
batman part 2|| harvey's dad ||
I know it got around Hollywood that Denise Gough had done the work for Yennifer, I remember seeing an interview where Ben Mendelsohn asked her about it unprompted
It is a weird headspace to be in for Witcher 3 to be one of the best selling video games out there and also to simultaneously find myself surprised that Ben Mendelsohn knows anything about an at the time decade old video game that wasn't like Mario or Fortnite or what have you
He's a pretty big gamer i think, I remember him talking about enjoying soulslike games or something like that
Project Hail Mary was absolutely fantastic.
Some of the science seemed a bit... Rocky though. xD
What did you pick up on?
An opportunity for a dad joke. lol.
I heard multiple gasps during the ||centrifuge|| scene during my theatre experience
Phm all
People were crying in a few of the later scenes
Also, can I just point out how absolutely S-tier the musical score in this movie was? I mean, holy crap!
Daniel pemberton is amazing
Y'all are getting me all the more excited for seeing this on Tuesday. Nothing sells me on a piece of media more than knowing it's got an amazing soundtrack.
Seriously, the main reason I even wanted to see Spirited Away in the first place was because I heard its soundtrack and fell in love with it (I never watch anime and I'd never seen Studio Ghibli before then).
Oh spirited away is perfect
I have been on occasion just playing it in the background. I don’t really do that. But it is so good.

I def think people would
I mean one of the latest series in jump is a shounen battle with doctors
So uh not unheard of
I feel like there's always An Anime For That
I'm not normally a see the same movie multiple times in theaters person but i'm really tempted to go see phm again
I think the only movie I saw twice in theaters was Alien Romulus
Beyond the Spiderverse will be the next one for sure
Unless Paramount decides to reverse its decision to pull the avatar Aang movie from theaters
I’ll go 2 or 3 times for that one
I think i saw Dune 4 times
I think I saw Iron Man maybe 3 times. But had tickets to at least 4 showings. One of which we snuck into a rated R film instead.
I saw CATS three times because I was taking different friend groups to go see it
Watched the Mario galaxy movie. So many gosh darned references, I’m in shock.
I saw Dune Part 2 four, maybe 5 times. On two occasions I had friends or family over to my house to watch Part 1 before going to see Part 2 since they hadn't seen either yet
I fricken love Dune so much
Ya, initially saw it by myself, then with friends, then at a better theater then at imax with my mother.
Im so hyped for Dune Messiah Part 3
LUCKY
Go go go go go
I gotta give it to them, that will unfortunately very likely make a lot of money
Joe Russo: ok so what if we put out a movie we know you guys liked to make you watch the big crossover film that sort of but not really covers characters you guys don’t care about since the MCU has been flounderign since the film we are rereleasing
Wait a minute
Is marvel just doing the Zach Snyder route of re-releases?
disney: the search for more money
Where it’s new footage what was just filmed after the movies release
I have such a hard time believing it will make nearly enough money for what they're spending on it though
They're really betting the farm on this
If there was movie drought then it would have obviously worked.
But people are already planning on using their time more carefully to watch other stuff in the time of that movie's release that other than some real die hard fans a double movie viewing would not make economic sense
I'm not sure if Endgame has a long enough tail for this to make any sense. Like (at least in my mind) a big chunk of why Endgame worked as a movie was because it was an event.
ye
And now that the event's come and gone, this just feels like a history lecture/more homework
MCU was on its high of building a interconnected movie universe leading to one singular event in real life and in the canon
The endgame re-release?
Surely the money spent to add a few scenes will be a pittance compared to what it’ll make with all the people out there going out to theaters for the nostalgia
No the whole thing
Oh yeah doomsday is financially going to flop relative to what they want it to do
This is almost certainly getting budgeted as Doomsday marketing
Oh yeah I did see that people think movies are really expensive these days
Fair lol. And the whole endgame being an event thing is a good point too
Disney+ cannibalizes so much of their own market. It's notoriously hard to prove something actually increased revenue long term on a streaming service.
I haven't seen a Marvel film in theaters in years. Just wait for it to show up on D+.
I do have to wonder about the merchandising side where folks traditionally made much of their money. So hard to tell if that market is really anywhere close to where it once was.
'FernGully' is getting a live-action remake, and no, we don't mean another 'Avatar' movie https://share.google/M5bERBN2uvV1MqDDS
Goodness
Talk about flashbacks to my childhood, this movie terrified me as a child
But of course we are required to squeeze every ounce of nostalgia for as much money as possible
D+ is weird. I think the scheduling on it is really more of a covid thing that's hard to stuff back into the bottle. D+ on the whole was ill begotten (they literally fired a CEO for lying about how well D+ was doing) but they're in too deep on it to reasonably back out I think
For what its worth, I think this might be the first winter where I didn't see some variation on the old "why is everyone saying 'during covid' like it isn't still happening" post
Ladies and gentlemen we have our Wonder Woman https://x.com/DiscussingFilm/status/2045871410086543412?s=20
It probably needs to be at least Endgame sized to make back its total budget. And while I'm sure it will do well, easily hundreds of millions if not a billion, I don't think it can reach endgame territory.
Is this just retroactive foreshadowing?? Backshadowing??
Very Brandon Sanderson of them
Is endgame really that bad?
i hate endgame so yes
Endgame is a great movie to have seen once
I saw endgame on opening weekend in a packed theatre and thats the optimal way to experience that movie
An entire theatre losing their storming minds at ||Cap picking up the hammer|| and it made my nerd heart swell. No amount of future MCU troubles can take that away
MCU sustained itself on being basically the only event entertainment left in the world
issue is the writing fell out from underneath it which is what they needed to sustain a lower scale storytelling post endgame which would let them build up into doomsday
but the scripts somehow got worse so now we are just doing the event thing again
which may work honestly
I don't think ive been intrested in a marvel movie since the disappointment that was MoM
Fantastic Four and Thunderbolts were great
They’re definitely not back to prime form but it’s a step in the right direction
Oh I forgot about thunderbolt being marvel cause I liked it
I think BND could be good but it does seem overstuffed to me
Wonder Man was nice though it was more a meditation on art/acting
Also not a film as I realize that's what you're talking about mostly
Like I enjoyed Deadpool & Wolverine but my friend who didn't keep up with any of the shows was entirely lost by the [D&W, Loki] ||TVA plot with variants||
Yeah that really dragged the film down. I had kept up with shows and it felt grafted on in a way that didn’t help the movie
The same plot could’ve been accomplished with|| just a generic fear of what MCU retcons would do to his perfect life ||
Okay, I am back from PHM! An actual 10/10 book movie imo. (PHM movie + book) ||While the book does a lot more in depth explaining about the science, the movie does a way better job at bringing the emotion. I love the added in jokes and minor changes (Stratt with the karaoke, Rocky barging into the ship, and Carl were highlights. Along with Grace going onto Rocky's ship, it was utterly gorgeous). But this movie is the definition of changing/adding/deleting what is necessarry to expand on the expereience. In short, they understood the [redacted] out of the assignment. I do like the movie more, but that's only because I am character focused and I believe that that is done a lot better in the movie compared to the book. Don't even get me started on the cinemetography and the score!! Gooooodnesssss gracious the score is gonna be on blast for a minute, and that one shot where they capture the astrophage and everything is red because of the petrova lense? That shot made me feel sinners-level emotions. It actually took my breath away.||
@lunar hinge for your reading pleasure 😂
Nice ||personally I enjoyed the book more i liked the more science aspects of it and how it goes more into depth about earths struggles and whatnot and to me rocky and grace felt more like scientists to me in the book while in the movie they didn't really feel like it but to each their own and also I preferred stratt in the book||
same! same same same. definitely think the movie is significantly, notably better than the book
PHM book + Movie ||I can understand liking Stratt more in the books. There's a few flashbacks/characters she interacts with that are cut out for time (validly, the movie is already damn near 3 hrs long) that I do miss, but that one scene humanizing her with the karaoke does help her character imo. As for Rocky and Grace not feeling like scientists, that is also a result of just cutting a lot of those explinations out, which makes sense. But all of your points are valid for you to put the book over the movie. If you like one more than the other, I'd think your valid regardless~||
phm both ||and even rereading the book right after the movie to get more of the science details straight again, i was surprised to find like. i didn't even care all that much? the movie got a LOT of science in, it just didn't do the thing where weir walks through EVERY detail with the vibe that he has to prove to the science bros in the audience that he did get the science right. but it's there in the movie! it's just what the audience actually needs to know||
phm both ||and stratt was way crueler in the book, i forgot 😩 i enjoyed actually being able to see the weight of what she's doing, in the movie, and why she's the type who CAN bear what she's doing. that really shone through in the actor||
PHM movie/both? ||I've not read the book but tbh I think Stratt stands out to me as maybe more interesting than Grace?||
||I wouldve liked to see more of her side of things but I think that might be something that just doesnt fit in the story that's being told||
phm both movie/book ||like being completely honest, in the book, a lot of the earth flashbacks have a lot of... weirdness?? that the movie smoothed out or ignored, and i'm relieved were cut. there are some neat scenes of how stratt was involved in decision making for not just the hail mary project but also a couple things on what they were doing to survive on earth, like, nuking antarctica to release OODLES of methane into the atmosphere to get about ten years of increased global warming, but i do understand why they weren't included, they were neat but not central to the hail mary project and grace's arc||
phm both ||and the movie successfully made grace's role as second in command happen a lot more naturally, like with the fact that grace is only one of several hundred scientists that stratt is reaching out to and has a couple of wins by VERY unconventional thinking (hollywood Unconventional) that shows why stratt would be interested in keeping him around as her tertiary backup, instead of in the book where it's more than a little unbelievable that grace is the ONLY guy special enough for stratt to reach out to as her subject matter expert||
I'm only a little more than halfway through the book but I do like the movie more currently
I put book as better but really they just do different things amazing. Book is for science and plot, movie is for emotions and characters/relationships. It's really apples to oranges imo
book watney and book grace are more just, unfortunately The Same Guy, which i'm fine with one my first go around? but moment to moment, the character voice is very very weak, and the science scenes in book are not a replacement
they're interesting but i was surprised by how i didn't like phm the second time around
yup this just doesn't bother me because I don't read the book for great characters
I'm a plot reader/viewer and media has to do a lot to make me feel lasting emotions for characters and character scenes. PHM the movie did next to nothing for me on the emotional front, where the book had a few heavy impacts
PHM book and movie all ||French climatologist person and the nuking of Antarctica hit me hard. Seeing a person unmake all they worked for with things they despise hit so hard. Grace and Rocky felt like one of the dozens human x creature friendships to me, in both the movie and the book||
phm book ||interesting, i didn't feel much of anything. i was more, "cool you're gonna be dead without this so..."||
phm book + movie||I think part of the reason why I didn't care too strongly for leclerc's plight is that Grace didn't make me care. The scene literally ends with Leclerc crying and Grace just... watching him. No comfort, not even a response. There's so many moments and interactions he has with people in flashbacks that just don't have any emotional weight because Grace feels so detached from everyone save for Stratt. In the movie I think that is bridged a bit better (Such as adding photos to the other crew members sends offs and adding more scenes where they talk)||
F4 is my fav Mcu movie so it's sad how under the radar it goy
yes, exactly. phm book v movie ||like i COULD have cared about leclerc and what he was going through, but it was not written with any emotion IN it||
phm movie/book ||you landed on why i didn't care for book!grace on reread because like. he doesn't react to anything||
||there are a couple things here and there but it's mostly, "here's the problem, but luckily, i thought of solution a"||
on and on and on and on...
PHM book/movie ||Which is exactly where I feel like the divide happens~ If you don't care for the emotions much and value the sciencey-textbooky parts, the book is for you! If you care more for connections and character, that's where the movie shines and that's why I like the movie more||
phm book ||(and the odd things he reacts to in the earth flashbacks are so ... weird? out of pocket? sometimes he just comes off as a jerk)||
phm movie v book ||whereas grace in the movie actually takes some of the stated (but not shown) characteristics of book grace and expanded on them. i believe ryland grace (as played by ryan gosling) is a huge awkward dork AND a very smart guy who has the chops to accomplish The Thing||
PHM book/movie || Having difficulty in the start compared to immediately getting to figuring stuff out already changes the character for.better ||
phm movie/book ||and no lie, the "reveal" in the book was meaningless to me. even on my first read, i didn't care whatsoever about the flashback that revealed grace is a big ol coward who had to be forced on board. i didn't understand why it was being played like a big deal, nor did i realize it was considered A Twist by many readers until later. the movie HAD this arc and even knowing it was coming, the flashback in the movie was pretty heart wrenching||
It was a reveal?
😭
Err as in
|| It was a twist? ||
PMH movie ||my experience with the twist was weird because I just had not considered any of that||
|| I don't think like any expectation of it being the opposite was set for it being a twist. It was a great reveal but not a twist at all ||
||Like, I hadn't thought about the fact that Grace probably thought he went voluntarily or the difference that would make. I assumed he went very reluctantly and so him being forced to was a reveal but didnt really change my understanding of the story (and I didnt realise it would change his so much)||
same ||Movie Grace felt a bit dumber and too much of a goof
||
phm movie v book ||i didn't find him dumb at all||
PMH movie ||I see how it works thinking back on it but my expectations werent in the right place to get properly shocked by it||
||but i'll take goof that elevates weir's attempts at snark over the weird detached book guy any day||
phm book ||....its giving gary stu ngl.... 😭Thankfully I was in that in between where I remembered just enough but not a lot of Ryland himself... he's not that impressionable tbh||
the range of human experience
I don't like|| many smart guy portrayal or those type of character as protagonist || in general. Phm
phm book (maybe movie) ||starts off STRONG with grace being weird about a coffee order right at the beginning and going "san francisco, right" and i'm like andy weir shut up. okay that's just book, not movie. ||
|| That vegan comment? ||
that one too
phm movie v book ||the movie started off flashback grace in the classroom and like. wow. MUCH better move. and also the movie scene was way kinder about the kids than the book was. he was mean in his own head about his kids in the classroom sometimes and the vibe is like, "lol, kids are dumb, right?" and i was just like. and you expect me to believe this is a man soft for kids when he talks about missing them later???? WHIFFED characterization||
||The story needs him to be likeable for the latter stuff but the book tries to do otherwise ||
PHM book + Movie ||I also appreciate that the movie cut the weirdly racist dude who was the head of the astrophage breeding across the sahara. I didn't like him at all and he felt like a weird talking piece I didn't agree with||
phm book/movie ||the movie dodged a LOT of weirdness like that. and idk how to feel about book dubois, if i'm overreacting or not||
clears my black throat PHM book + movie ||There was no fixing him tbh. He was the only black character in the whole book who has a weird gag that wasn't funny. So not really giving him speaking lines in the movie was... a smart movie. The one scene he has with the other scientist was better than their entire interactions in the book||
phm book/movie ||like i think the book tried too hard to make grace feel like The Normal Guy looking at the camera when surrounded by all these weird people picked up by the hail mary project, like the side characters in the book were just weir taking such a strong swing at making them all distinct by giving them One Gag. now that i've seen the movie for comparison, i don't think it works for the side characters in the book, and i don't think it works for grace||
okay i ... thought so? like it was off putting
but i was like, am i the only one? do other people think it's funny?
Phm both ||I also do not like that he dies. "The only black person dies in the end" is a trope I don't like even if it makes sense in this context||
||Like yeah. We gotta get grace on the stupid space ship somehow but can we please find another way?||
Okay my belated phm movie review is that ||I really liked it, I almost screamed when he said “scanning electron microscope”, and I thought that the overall plot and pacing was good but they had waaaaayyy too many random shots of space accompanied by dramatic music. Like it was so overdone and a bit silly||
||I also feel like it could’ve been a bit more serious, I thought the twist with grace’s character was really good, but I feel like they could’ve gone harder on the grace - rocky competence porn? That said, them bumping into things in the lab was a mood||
||also the scene where he opens something, realizes it might be air sensitive or dangerous and sticks it into the glovebox after opening it. Sadly relatable 😭 😭 😭 ||
||overall really liked the science but they telegraphed the last minute plot twist with the bacteria eating the astrophage in the engines waaaay too hard||
||rocky offering grace fuel followed by “astrophage eating bacteria” with 45 min to spare is waaaay too obvious pls||
my favorite part of the book was the science
which was the main part cut out
DP&W is quite possibly the movie i hate the most
like i genuinely think its in bottom 5 movies of all time
So my caveat is that I have a fondness for the FoX-Men movies in spite of (or maybe because of) how bad they are, so it did feel a little like a send off, especially the credits montage
Absolutely incomprehensible on its own, admittedly
My gripe with all the Fox X-Men nostalgia/callbacks is that I started watching the MCU (and superhero movies generally) later, and so I not only have 0 nostalgia for all that, I have to go and watch a whole separate franchise to follow the current MCU as intended
it has no substance
its an anti movie
theres no movie
just callback
after callback
over
and over
even less than your average MCU film
It's better to be unapologetically that than be like NWH and try to have a story which is undercut by the callback
Nah
at least NWH has a story
and isnt just corporate product
for the sake of being a corporate product
with even less substance
Which doesn’t matter as the callback undercuts it
Deadpool and wolverine is like 100x more enjoyable than nwh for me
Tbh I don't think I've watched any previous fantastic four and I still thought [DP &W] ||Chris Evans Human Torch was funny|| buuuuuut again that falls in "this movie is a stack of other IP cards"
its better to have some then none at all
Better to have none than have some which doesnt work ans also undercut the callbacks
In nwh, neither the story or callback works
DPW is one of the few movies ive seen with no artistic value
||"There's only ever gonna be one Blade" is also kinda funny but in a sad way||
Yes
the room is a better movie than dPW
Like the room says something which while definelty not being what tommy wiseau meant it definetly does say something about him
what does DPW say
or do
with anything
I also think the plot of DP&W is weak but by definition there is a story
“It’s not a movie it’s an anti-movie” for a story you don’t like is an insane take imo
anyway DPW top 3 worst movies of all time with one of the others also being a differnet ryan reynolds movie
Basically I watched all the X-Men films in theater with my high school bestie up until New Mutants (driving a couple hours to do so for apocalypse lol) so that montage + song choice had us both crying and texting each other
I recognize that doesn't make DP+W good but I was the target emotional audience I suppose
DP&W is weird for me because I don’t think the story is particularly good but it’s just so darned entertaining
i think i fundamentally see movies and art in a different way than you people so im just going to leave
because this is a conversation thats pointless
I also feel like the level of enjoyment you get is not actually dependent on knowing every reference
I think it has a silliness that sits better than say, the most recent Antman or Thor entries
It’s hard to say for sure since this wasn’t my experience but I think it could be someone’s literal first Marvel movie and they’d still have a good time
Quantumania suffered by leading to an aborted mega plotline and I think Love and Thunder just couldn't decide what it wanted to be tonally
love and thunder at least had bales peformance
He was SO GOOD and the rest of the movie didn't rise to meet it
For me, the core purpoose of any work of media is to make me feel things
it could be awe or amazements or the feeling of learning smth new or make me cry or happy or w/e
Deadpool and Wolverine got strong emotional response from me
Love and thunder was such a mistake
letting him do directing and writing was a mistake
Because it missed the balance that made ragnarok a great thor movie
Instead it took things that should have been genuinely serious and just, made fun of them. that rubbed me such the wrong way, and my entire family came out of the theaters deeply disappointed
I’m still mad at Ragnarok for wrecking the chances at a proper Planet Hulk movie
PHM book and movie || I also didn’t really think of it as a big twist. To me the big twist was the reveal of Rocky. The being forced to go bit to me was kinda like “Damn, that sucks. But it was the right call and definitely makes sense given the context behind the situation.”
Iirc the movie kinda left out the fact that only a small subset of people were compatible with the solution for the trip? ||
PHM movie || But can we agree the shots with the planet (Adrian?) were gorgeous? ||
PHM book + movie || Been a while since I read the book. What was the weird gag again? I don’t really remember any of the characters in the book at this point other than Grace, Rocky, and the woman who was in charge ||
I think that’s a great sign of a very successful adaptation
They can potentially make up for this by one day doing a proper Hulk vs Wolverine movie. Now that’s gonna be a big one
“Til you’re 90” is probably the best joke in Deadpool 3 just because it’s accurate
It’s more dependent on if you can get behind the style of humor and stomach Deadpool being Deadpool
The movie and book are both good. If you want to read a book read the book, if you want to watch a movie watch the movie
I did think I was going to be in the first category until I reread the book RIGHT after the movie
PHM book + movie ||In the book his gag was that he brought up his freaky times with Shapiro unprompted to Grace. Which felt ooc because DuBois was very composed and intelligent? I guess thats why it was supposed to be funny? I didnt like it much but movie DuBois was at least a person||
||I either skip or zone out during that scene in the book. It's so... creepy. It's one of those scenes where I'm always taken out of the story and I can't help but think, "I get you want this person to be a little odd but this is out of the realm of what a real human would do"||
|| Oh yeah that’s uhh…. 😬 ||
||and then that added layer of hypersexualizing the only black person in the whole story... I want to take DuBois and put him in another story where hes actually respected as a human 😒||
||because conceptually he is so cool? You have this super intelligent and composed african american whos willing to sacrifice himself for humanity and you turn him into a joke :/||
But thats Way more of a book issue
PHM movie ||the movie made the correct choice in just removing lines because there was genuinely nothing to salvage||
The Pit S1 4pm ||Javadi acts like such a child, easily the worst dr in the pitt||
||Ok well Santos might also be cause of how much she cant accept blame for her own actions||
||Oh WHAT??!!!!||
||SHE WAS RIGHT???!||
||I now dont know who the worst Dr in the pit is||
I chuckled at this random algo pull
wait, the Autism one is also called "Lesbian Trauma RPG"? pack it up gang, I guess my algo has gone full Yuri on me
I read PHM before watching it and felt like I should've done it the other way around
Gosling does make Grace a much nicer character but imo to the story's detriment
Cause the book not only has ||darker plot beats by itself but Grace being a coward also added a lot more tension to decisions like would he save Rocky at the end or not||
Meanwhile the movie is happy go lucky and borderline obnoxiously hopeful all the time
It's a fun family watch ig but not much more to me
Ig it would at least have been more memorable if I had seen it first but whenever I think of PHM I still default to the book
Yeah im surprised going in knowing what happened didnt kill the emotional bits for me, I was still a sobbing mess for half of it 😂
Ooh Peter Serafinowicz
Excited for this movie
Elden Ring’s lore is mmmmmm
have they said anything about the premise of the movie? Are they trying to cover the present-day narrative of the game, or the backstory?
Either Jonathan Pryce is Gideon or DogPope, no other options possible
inb4 they adapt the elden ring manga
Better look
watches trailer for the new Mummy movie ... A few moments later "WTF did I just watch?!"
Hmm are we getting Superman and Lex playing chess, Supes beating him of course.
Brb sending this to GF
Fwiw I'm no better, it will just be whatever my current flavor of brainrot is
There’s so much Star Trek and it’s so influential (and heavily ripped off), the thing probably is exactly like this one Star Trek episode
From the official Clayface movie Instagram!
Jason Isaacs feels very Zeon
hmm.
Everything I’ve seen about this plot makes it seem like it’s Pearl Harbor but with Gundams
And that’s honestly peak
If they go that way it will be pretty good.
Do we think ||Sydney Sweeney or Noah Centineo will be Earthnoid / Spacenoid?||
Having a love triangle would be a good way to get casual audiences on board
loss of the focus on teens as the pilots is sads but 🤷♀️
I feel like it’ll probably be a little about that too
They’re too old
Who’s directing it?
Ohhh wait
Jim Mickle?
That’s peak
I loved Sweet Tooth
Although Sweet Tooth did have the benefit of being based on an AMAZING comic
With two very adult leads?
Wonder if this will be UC or expanded universe
I expect it's gonna be its own thing, but make reference to different popular stuff
I’d imagine an alternate universe based heavily on UC would be the pick
(Have Federation / Zeon whether by name or analogues)
Cannot wrap my mind around sydney sweeney in a gundam movie
Gonna be a goldmine for memes
I’ve never seen her in anything
Noah Centineo tho…
She's a good actress, just currently controversial
Ive only seen her in white lotus
This single handedly makes me want to not watch it btw 😌
Sydney is one of the great characters of the modern age
I can't imagine it ends up as anything better than "Pacific Rim but worse"
Sent this article to my friend and he replied this news is the final push into active suicidality
What, you don't wanna see her pilot a Gundamn better than anyone else because of her superior genes jeans?
god if she's a newtype the internet will not be able to shut up about it
...
You’re not gonna believe this
I’m gonna go to you-people for this message I’m about to send
Im surprised Netflix arent looking at this and looking at the current anime adaptation good will theyve built up, and let another service pick up the film
Theyre not involved in producing it at all afaik but still, feels like if I were a netflix exec id be nervous about this
Netflix will still get the blame if its horrible, despite them not being involved
Maybe the script reads well 🤷
Well, in good (and mostly unrelated) news, the lead writer of the Mass Effect show is saying he doesn't know where the non-gaming audiences quote came from and says the article caught him "off guard just as much as you"
For what its worth, it did seem.... bizarre, that that was a thing that someone involved with the show would say. My guess is that some random producer/executive etc said it either to just gin up controversy/attention or to try and get some conversation back on some track and off one that producer/exec did not like
that, is good, if honest
Rewrites have not been specifically denied but rewrites happen all the time and for all sorts of reasons, that alone is not necessarily a red flag. He cited NDAs as a reason for a lack of specificity
-# Speaking of adaptations, was looking at clips of Love and Thunder and [Stormlight also] ||I really hope the Stormlight adaptation does Nightblood more justice than All-Black got, oof||
Arcane season 1 for example underwent substantial re-writes as they were about to start production. Rewrites are a pretty neutral thing to do, sometimes the story needs it, sometimes it doesn't. And sometimes the story is bad enough that rewrites can't save it.
Hell sometimes it just happens cause they get a note back from the money or fx people that's like "uhhh, yeah that can't happen"
So what you're saying is the Destiny Ascension will be as big a nothingburger in the show as it is in the games
Game of thrones 3x6, but also… through season 6 || you know honestly Robb and Cat are both fools and Roose killing them and ending a losing war in good position is uh… fine. Enabling Ramsey on the other hand is uh less fine||
First thing I could think of as "this is big budget and would ez get cut beyond a two second cameo" only to think about it for two seconds and realize that's what happened to it in the actual game
Also thrones 3x6 and Hot D general || something that I think is missing a little is just putting great actors in a room together and letting them cook. ||
3x7 || oh yes Ygritte roads are bad… roads. You know the thing that is foundational for society||
He must be. It’s too perfect

He has to be Rykard right

Sonoya Mizuno and Jefferson Hall have been cast in Alex Garlandʼs ‘ELDEN RING’ movie for A24.
︀︀
︀︀In theatres March 3, 2028.
I thought of (ER) ||Kenneth||
New reported details on the ‘X-MEN’ reboot film:
︀︀
︀︀• Will feature a coming-of-age story.
︀︀
︀︀• Wolverine will not be part of the lineup.
︀︀
︀︀• Will feature a younger cast that grows over time.
︀︀
︀︀• Lineup won’t be as big as the one in ‘X-Men ‘97’
︀︀
︀︀• The original 5 X-Men will be the main team, with 3 extra members.
︀︀
︀︀(via thecosmiccircus.com/alex-perez-april2026qa3-spider-man-visionquest-x-men/))
So I’m imagining the original 5 plus Gambit, Rogue and Storm?
“Wolverine will not be part of the lineup”
if this is the lineup: W to Marvel
Nice selection
It’s already a W with no stinky Wolverine in it 🙏
Which I think is a good thing
Give Wolvie some solo projects first
Although I don’t know how to feel about Angel possibly being included, I feel like you could easily replace him with Nightcrawler or something
I think Warren deserves that love
He’s always been there but never quite been given anything
Is this a new news article
Netflix’s news article yeah
Sydney as Char fr
They could (Xmen) ||start Rogue off as a villain and hold off Gambit for a movie ||
||can’t imagine not doing Storm tho||
They are already present in the anime tho
It's nothing new for the franchise
Xmen ||maybe O5 + Storm, Nightcrawler, some other popular Xmen||
Genuinely wont watch if my queen isnt there
Why make it without her
Would be insane 😔
My brain jumped to them doing storm god stuff with Storm and Thor and like...mm
Still really depends on what they're even doing with the X-Men at base
I’m curious how long it takes them to touch on the ||Magneto||-sized elephant in the room
||Introduce both Rogue and Gambit as villains over time would be a fun ??? to people that have very little exposure to their origins xD||
||Rogue absorbs Carol’s power pls||
I'm just so damn curious what they decide to do with all of them in general
Who was the original 5 again? ||Cyclops, Beast, Angel, Jean, Iceman?||
Yes
Major difference is ||Beast was just a tanky guy originally||
||not blue||
||Jean originally being "Marvel Girl" is so funny||
X-Men+BND ||If everyone's right that Jean is in this movie that's going to be...interesting...
...
What if Peter is one of the +3||
||Do they ever explain how Beast turned blue?||
To be clear, this is all rumor, not confirmed. I’m familiar with the source and they’re pretty reliable, but it’s not official and may not be 100% correct
||self experiments ||
||I think he attempts to cure himself at one point and it backfires?||
oh huh, the comic version is pretty different
||In the comics he identifies the cause of mutations and makes a serum from it, and after overhearing people plotting to steal his research he drinks it to disguise himself, but doesn't take the antidote in time and stays stuck.
also...he was grey xD and a fight with...Quasimodo...turned him blue, and also lost his healing factor||
||I wonder if the MCU will start him out as hairy given how iconic it is||
||hm. wonder if Ms. Marvel will be part of the new X-Men||

Ugh Elden Ring is so good
Everything that can be done has been done in Star Trek
Should’ve cast her as Kallen in a code geass movie
