I should watch Pacific Rim again
It would be fulfilling different specific niches so I do think they deserve to be in the crowd.
PHM is a bit difficult because unlike all the others that is the onlyovie that has been released so of course we know it is good.
For the others we only have trailers and it is possible that they could turn out bad.
Very low chance but still a chance
Oppositely I had nothing going for to look forward to in 2025. I am genuinely looking forward to at least 2 movies BND and DM
I haven't even seen Dhurandhar 1 and my college friends had already seen Dhurandhar 2 at early screening on Wednesday
I Saw The TV Glow 1hr16 ||Im so confused||
Same, all ||huh.||
||that did a lot of things but I'm not sure they all really came together for me||
||i think the twist kinda just kicked me out of the story a bit||
Dhurandhar 1 is very good
It's like extremely nuanced for an Indian media that depicts Pakistan
I don't expect nuance from that specific subgenre of Indian movies so I was blown away
and in general the way the characters are written, and the scope of it
I don't know what other movie I would call a spy epic, but this is one which I would definitely call one
ISTTG all ||I liked the narrative and visual style of the first 2/3rds but I think the "the show is real" thing broke my immersion a little because it left me unsure of what I was meant to take as real (lowly) and that undercut some of the emotions||
damn dhurandhar 2 is freaking 230 minutes
prolly the longest Hindi movie I'll be watching after Naam Mera Joker
Yeah Dhurandhar 1 + 2 is more than around 6 hours
I checked and Naam Mera Joker was 4 hours 15 min
how the storms was I able to watch that movie
Is it really? I’ve only been hearing about how it’s nationalist propaganda. (Important context: my family is from Pakistan)
compared to every other movie of this kind, it's far far more nuanced
it still has some of that nationalist propaganda obv. it's like inherent to these movies
but this just makes it more interesting
Dhurandhar movie || There's multiple factions with different goals in both sides. Both sides shown to be people who can be bought and about lust for power and greed and how that makes people turn on their own community ||
|| These sort of Indian movies make the Pakistan side characters just stand in for hate generally, making them paper cutouts instead of characters in their own ||
In this one however || every single one has so much versatility ||
My only interaction with Dhurandhar is seeing that clip of Akshay Khanna looking unnecessarily good
GOD DAMN
(it's a lot better in motion)
Akshay Khanna had such a comeback man
Insane glow up
Akshay Khanna always had aura, even bald (look at Drishyam) but a good wig and some fire drip gives a x10 multiplier to the aura.
I hadn't seen Drishyam and like the last movie I saw of him was like 2008s
So it was surprising seeing him here
also seems like Drishyam is his first hit in a decade or so
He was also in Chhaava and section 375 (2022) before that he was in Accidental Prime Minister (2019)
Note that I am only counting those that I have heard about. He does have some more in his catalog around the time but nothing famous
Is he only in Race 1? Then
Mere baap pehle aap
Tees Maar Khaan
Gali Gali Chor Hai
Dishoom (villain)
were all good roles and even better than Race for me and came afterwards
I have not seen Mom but I have heard he was great in that as well
I don't think any of these was well received
Tees Mar Khan was a collosal failure
Invincible 4x2 ||oof. Lots of eye stuff this episode. I looove it but oof DX||
Yeah but you said good roles so I only mentioned the movies that
A) I have watched
B) I believe have better role for him than Race.
...
...
but what if both

I might need to take a trip to McDonald's 🥴
Yum
ugh I never go in time for breakfast; truly a sign that the boys are evil
I feel all the more more justified for not getting McDonald's now 😛
We’ve got a showrunner for Jimmy Olsen! https://thedirect.com/article/dc-studios-jimmy-olsen-show-dan-perrault-crime-mystery-comedy
Same guy who did American Vandal apparently
Unfortunately I have to be seated in the first two rows for a movie in the first time in like 10 years I hate straining my head
I would never go to a movie having to do that. I would just pick another screening
Ive done it once and never again
That’s fun
Guess I gotta get breakfast
The fact that both come with a soda-pop is a fail
It should be exclusive to the Saja Boys
McDonald’s has released a fully animated ad for their upcoming KPOP DEMON HUNTERS collab!
Idk if this is cause or effect, but either way, it's a win.
Effect
Sora was a net loss per video generated and also took development time and compution power aware from more profitable generative ai tasks
Reporting I read was OpenAI is getting ready to go public and is trying to make itself look better to investors compared to Anthropic who focuses on the more profitable stuff like automation and text/code generation
PHM ||near perfect movie but they hurt rocky so 0/10||
Amaze amaze amaze
That makes sense, the per-prompt compute cost for videos is much much bigger than it is for images which is in turn much bigger than it is for text. Anthropic never went down that path and focused on tool integration and text/code, while Google (obviously) specialized in RAG.
I agree but I want to see phm with my dad and this was the only way
Awww did your dad like it?
Yep
As I understand it this is only one of many fires OpenAI has to put out right now
@keen flax this is in the meal
The mcshaker fries are such a throwback to what Burger King did in like… 2003?
honestly tempted to get both because at least it's different
a spicy mcmuffin will be odd
My Haul
All I have to say about the Live Action Moana is that Rock in the Wig looks like a cross between Weird Al and Bob from Twin Peaks
The wig did look like BOB from twin peaks
Fun fact for those not familiar with twin peaks, this guy was not initially hired as an actor. He works on lighting, set decorating, and so on for Lynch
Finished s2 of Game of Thrones a few days ago. Weaker than s1 in some aspects like Dany’s arc, but I’d still put it on the same level or higher. Especially with the Battle of Blackwater. This series is phenomenal.
Warehouse 13 1.4 ||"No boyfriends, no girlfriends"
reproving look
"I'm very non-judgemental"
Lmao that absolutely SENT me.||
You should watch Eureka next, they have a crossover episode
It's so cool that HR stands for Heated Rivalry _and_ Hollander and Rozanov _and_ Human Resources, the department they'll both have to talk to after the league finds out that two of their employees have been having an undisclosed sexual relationship that may or may not affect the results of two of their billion dollar teams
-# #heated rivalry #honestly not sure if they're employees of the league or just each team? but either way i think they're taking to their teams hr #who previously has only ever dealt with benefits and telling players they need to stop making the female staff uncomfortable #now they need to look shane hollander in the eye &tell him that sleeping with a rival player could cause issues for the sports betting world #and before they can finish with “as long as you're doing what every player should and you're not betting you should have no legal issue”
soon disney live action remakes will come out at the same time as there animated counteparts
This isn't my first time through :P
I've watched all of W13 and most of Eureka.
The crossover episodes are fun
Daredevil BA S2E1 ||Not a fan of that first sequence tbh||
GoT s3e1 || How tf is Sam supposed to send a raven? 😂||
|| HOLY CRAP THE WILDLINGS HAVE A GIANT!! ||
daredevil ba s2e1 ||Karen's got moves 👀 ||
Too choppy visually
daredevil ba s2e1 ||gotta love turning to fascism after breaking up with your ex ||
||~~and trauma too, but it's funnier if we don't mention it ~~||
good episode, good setup
If there's one thing I've taken away from this year's Oscars discourse
Is that I loathe the word buzzword
Every time someone would try to take a critical look into the politics of the films, namely Sinners and OBAA, some people (whom I've found to be disproportionately white guys) will just say how it's all a bunch of buzzwords
Like sorry that some people have a vocabulary beyond middle school ig
In honor of Tolkien Reading Day and the destruction of the One Ring, we bring you a special announcement.
Um guys
They really exploit the LOTR movies, For a change they have the best written fantasy world, but those rights are held by the silmarillion I think
Look I get you want to criticise the discourse but this is just a bunch of bu- gets shot
Tbh I do agree though
Anything that just dismisses an opinion without actually engaging with it can be frustrating
So I heard that Artemis is getting a movie adaptation now too lol
Fans of The Martian and PHM might be sorely dissapointed
Though, I will say, the biggest problem with Artemis is ||the weird pointless sexual dialogue and his inability to wrote a female protagonist||, and that seems like the type of thing that could be fixed in a movie by a talented screenwriter. So maybe I should be more optimistic
It does have the core of a decent story, though still not nearly as good as PHM/The Martian
Its been in the works for a while
iirc theyve had trouble doing moon gravity, so PHM came first
I see
Well, I hope they do some more significant revisions to the script than the previous 2 adaptations
simply film on the moon. I see no problems here
GoT S3E1 || Tywin was so charming with Arya in season 2 that I forgot he was the same callous monster that orchestrated what happened between Tyrion and Tysha ||
The Charles Danse Effect
The Tony Dalton Effect

I've never met another person who's seen Eureka!!!! This is exciting
Choose your fighter: Stephen Colbert Lord of the rings film or Andy Serkis hunt for Gollum film
I dont even understand why the first one exists
Like, same for the gollum one but that at least is people I know have been attached to LOTR before
premise of colbert's movie: [LotR]
||“You know what the books mean to me, and what your films mean to me,” Colbert told Jackson. “But the thing I found myself reading over and over again were the six chapters early on in [‘The Fellowship of the Ring’] that ya’ll never developed into the first movie back in the day. It’s basically the chapter ‘Three Is Company’ [Chapter III] through ‘Fog on the Barrow-Downs’ [Chapter VIII]. And I thought, ‘Oh, wait, maybe that could be its own story that could fit into the larger story. Could we make something that was completely faithful to the books while also being completely faithful to the movies that you guys had already made?'” ||
Has colbert done movies?
this feels like a bad choice to adapt into a movie but I also have very little faith in the hunt for gollum so it's a toss up I guess
Why? Were you born on the same day it released?
Eureka 7 Ao?
Different show
Oh
Season ... 4.5?
Used to? Invincible has done this quite recently
TV is weird
So do you watch the .5 entry before or after the second arc?
I don't quite understand why they do this, but I imagine there's just a lot of complicated stuff involving rights and whatnot behind the scenes
Or maybe it's one of those things where they were halfway through filming an 8 episode season when the networks said, "actually do 18 please"
I imagine its more that it allows them to get more viewership bumps for season "finales"
Could be that as well. I just checked through the episodes and there certainly was the conclusion of a pretty big arc at the end of the first 8 episodes, so that would track with finales
Could also be a way to make sure they dont run late on delivering episodes
Assuming they start airing a season before they finish filming which I think was typical for these sorts of shows?
Not actually sure there
They were able to release at least eight episodes a year for seven years, so wanting to be able to keep up would make sense
Wow havent thought of that show in well over a decade
Ahh Eureka all ||I love so many ch of this show but also the whole "let's screw up the timeline and instead of fix it just ignore that the continuity is different now" will always irk me||
Contracts
And also I think ratings maximization by airing in the summer while network shows are on break
Yeah lmao
Insane
It’s one of those movies where you read the brief and context around the film and you just have to watch it now
If you can take the kind of stuff the movie has
I wouldn't wanna watch it but I suppose it'd at least have some really interesting commentary
Eureka All
||To me it felt more like they wanted to mix things up to give the show a fresh spin, not so much that they were doing a time travel story really. The biggest thing that irks me about it is Kevin no longer having autism in the new timeline. It's par for the course for the era, but really shoulda been done differently.||
||I liked Henry and Grace falling in love way too much to be upset with the new timeline stuff, plus Fargo learning that he wasn't destined to be an eternal screwup was nice.||
Yeah ||The ableism is certainly a huge part of it and I think there is a way for them to merge back in or even acknowledge it more rather than just pretend things didn't change which is my bigger problem. Like keep it changed! That's fine but also let that be a part of the story rather than just a soft reboot of the actors roles||
||There was a fair deal they had to deal with in the new timeline though. Jack had to re-break up with Tess, Fargo had to learn how to be director, Jo had to decide if she wanted to recreate her relationship with Zane, Henry had to find the best way to open up to Grace. and then later in the season Henry went to prison because new timeline Henry was in cahoots with Beverly. Plus, everything with Trevor Grant.||
||Sure, there could have been more stuff, but there was fallout from the time travel.||
||I wish we had gotten more of Zoe in seasons 4 and 5. I know she was off at college, but still makes me sad. Especially seeing the dynamic she had with the other characters in the episodes she was in.||
What's your favorite arc from the show? For me it's the whole Astreus mission prep
To be a lot more specific
||> Fourteen years after the passing of Frodo - Sam, Merry, and Pippin set out to retrace the first steps of their adventure. Meanwhile, Sam’s daughter, Elanor, has discovered a long-buried secret and is determined to uncover why the War of the Ring was very nearly lost before it even began. ||
honestly, it sounds like a massive nostalgia trip
LotR movies/books||wait does that mean they're gonna bring Tom Bombadil and the Hobbits going through the Old Forest to the big screen?||
||I'm not entirely sure that will be enough to fill out even a single movie, honestly. Maybe like a 45 minute episode of a show or something.||
||Unless I'm misunderstanding||
I knew Hollywood is really bankrupt and desperate but not “Stephen Colbert making LOTR: The Force Awakens” bankrupt and desperate
||You're forgetting Tom Bombadil's 90 minute musical interlude!||
this is the worst premise ive ever seen for a movie (in general tbh) how creatively bankrupt is hollywood
This is going to have a Princess Bride like framing or something. Possibly ||Tied to a bit of adventure for the younger Gamgee as well.||
My guess is this is CBS Warner Brothers offering up an olive branch to try and smooth over the cancelling of his show.
please do not insult princess bride like this
I am not the one making the movie.
When samwise Gamgee's daughter finds his original director's cut copy of The Lord of the Rings and his daughter and realizes "Oh but why were these pages missing from my copy"
Sam:
"Well listen here young lady that's a mighty fine tale and I guess it's probably time for me to be a tellin' it"
“You see, I was making stew and this wretched creature didn’t know what taters were, so I’ve got 70 pages of my favorite potato recipes that I’m copying over, let me read them all out to you”
Oooh taskmaster returning here in a week and a bit
A new era of Hogwarts begins. The HBO Original series Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone premieres this Christmas on HBO Max.
About HBO Max:
HBO Max is the premier global streaming platform from Warner Bros. Discovery that delivers the most unique and captivating stories, ranging from the highest quality in scripted programming, movies,...
If anybody cares
aggressively anti caring and wish it wasn't here tbh
It’s just so unnecessary
Like actually
Literally just looks like any other streaming fantasy show
exactly, I was happy to not think about it or talk about it, but someone brought it up in a channel where I exist :p
Shameless appeal to nostalgia. Making an incredibly expensive show that has no reason to exist and nothing to say
trying to revive the ip so that Rowling's pockets don't dry up and she can continue to contribute huge $$$ to legally restricting the ability of trans people to exist in the UK
even watching the trailer supports Rowling and her transphobia campaigning
I really like that in the muggle world all of the colors are muted to show that life is sad and dismal and then in the wizarding world all of the colors are still muted to show that this whole show is sad and dismal
And it’s just so lazy. It’s not even doing a new story in that world. There’s nothing being said it’s just freaking slop
A HP tv show could have been a good idea 10+ years ago, but at this point everything about it feels sinister in some way
-# watching the trailer made me want to reread mother of learning again
It really sucks that Harry, Ron, and Hermione are the only three students who ever attended Hogwarts during times of turmoil
I think if they had done literally anything else with the IP there'd've been some kind of hype around it, but I've yet to hear a single person be excited for this show
Why does this look so melodramatic and sad lol
Like it if it was a Marauders prequel
I don't think that they've demonstrated any ability at making good Harry Potter prequels
what I don't get is why they decided to retell the same story instead of making a sequel or a spin off show, fantastic beasts-style
Fb2 ||mfw wizard Hitler vapes and sees the Holocaust||
The first Fantastic Beasts was. Fine
-# well it would help if they didn’t have Joanne meddling
That was easily the most memorable scene in any movie lol
basically the generation that grew up watching the movies is reaching prime spending age
I think they're already in prime spending age
And have kids and so they can play on that to get another generation in
do they have kids tho
I don't think so? Prime spending age is in your 40s I think
Although I saw something about having two years between seasons and lololololol good luck making a show relying on child actors
I think that's about what the movies had for release dates as well?
today was the day you woke up and chose to engage in psychic violence, huh
for this type of thing I imagine producers want them to grow up and just act younger roles
Nah they pumped out 8 films in like 11 years or something
This is still probably gonna make a billion dollars back from normie HP fans
almost certainly yeah
It’s literally the most expensive TV show ever produced too
like the latest Harry Potter game sold a gazillion copies, even the second fantastic beasts movie made a profit
that said, I hope the actors don't get too much hate. Especially the kids
apparently the goal is 10 years to do 7 seasons
where did you see every 2 years?
If they can shift some sort of cultural precident so that we go back to shorter times between releases I'll be happy
Having to wait years between every season of a show because they don't start filming the next one until they see that the first does numbers is getting quite old
IGN
Harry Potter fans will likely have to wait multiple years between seasons of HBO's upcoming TV series, the streaming service has admitted. https://t.co/1uobnGiloK
The kids are going to be like 40 by the time they do the last season lmao
(if it doesn't get cancelled before then for being too expensive)
Slow horses, my beloved show puts trailers for the next season at the end of the finales
It would have to be really bad to get cancelled lol
This is supposed to be their new cash cow
I love Slow Horses
I cannot wait for more ads on my Amazon prime Crave subscription
I have a feeling that this will most likely end up like the Percy Jackson show where occasionally I'll encounter someone in my real life who watched the show and that's kind of it
Slow Horses is so good
Really expensive shows are really risky, especially if you want them to run 7+ seasons
I think there’s a chance they basically do what thrones did and like have a cast that wants to do other stuff after like season 5 or something and so they have to condense
Pjo was never as big name as hp
Same with the writers
oh boy, time to purge the friend list of people that watch it anyways 😔
There is a chance this bombs though lol
And a chance that season 1 does well, but audience retention falls off at season 2
The kids shouldn't get any flack but the adults should.
John Lithgow is already out there doing damage control because he knows it's a bad look but the money was too good to pass up.
I think there’s a good chance Jo is so toxic that the reaction is apathy
the actual article says this
Will HBO also make Harry Potter fans wait two years between seasons, stretching seven years of TV out to 14? It seems an extremely long time to wait (the series would not conclude until 2041, which seems implausible). But perhaps there's a middle ground here which Bloys is hedging his bets around, where some seasons may take longer than 12 months to arrive, though not every season, or not requiring a full two years?
the best thing to do is ignore it
yeah
The HP game did fine and a lot of my normie friends still buy merch, go to the stage play, etc
the big boycott movement backfired for the game
I think the bigger issue they'll run into is some of the actors dying
I guess that's the problem with having a major character who's major character trait is being really old in a series that will last at least a decade
would've loved to see some more energy around ignoring it tbh
Also no offense to the kid actor who plays Harry, the trailer acting is unimpressive atm
🎼 Pop the bubble, eat the rich 🎶
This news makes me immensely happy
Yeesh the socials team just making stuff up
I mean, the bubble popping is a mixed thing
Aaaaand now the happy is partially gone
Because all of the economic growth recently has been AI
and so much money is tied up in AI that a burst will take the entire economy down with it
This is also going to get engulfed in the warner+HBO buyout which I imagine will introduce all kinds of new production headaches. I give it 4 seasons and it falls apart but the sunk costs keep it afloat that long.
I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being 2 years or so towards the end tbh
"Fine" is a vast understatement, it did 40 million sales, outrunning Cyberpunk 2077 in a shorter time and crushing Baldur's Gate 3.
paramount is going to do all it possibly can to keep the production of this show on track
it's HBO's only "new" property that seems to have a good chance at being a hit
the only other stuff they have is ASOIAF stuff and The Pitt
I just get uncanny valley looking at it, because the film series left such an impression that it invites uncanny valley, especially if they keep some of the same aesthetics (which since it's WB, I assume they will)
Maybe they could spend some of that HP money expediting the next season of Last Of Us
It just feels... so unnecessary since the films exist? like I get it, this is a cash cow and based on the youtube comments there's still a wide audience who will spend $$ on the associated tie-ins
Oh I know they will want to but I also fully expect the new management to feel entitled to getting in the middle of it anyways.
The show is a lot more connected to her. Like fantastic beasts 3 was bad enough they they stopped making them and she was all over those
I do get that it's been ~25 years since the first film but they're on replay fairly often/people still watch them! like this will invite inevitable comparison to previous work
afaik those weren't really adapting anything
Yeah, some of my friends got it and it seems like a walking simulator lol, but it did numbers
Insane that it beat BG3 though
She wrote 2 and 3 herself
And they sucked ass
Regardless, I sincerely believe the world is/was/could be a better place without GenAI
Like I genuinely think she has enough money and power that her terribleness in the visual mediums makes the show bad
She’s toxic in more than one way
yeah my point is I'm not sure there's much they can mess up on that front when I imagine their guiding principle for the show is "adapt the books as close as possible"
My personal, very strong opinion is that the mere existence of any GenAI is 100% bad. I hate that I have to live with it at all. I wish I could burn it all into oblivion.
The first one is "based on a screenplay by JK Rowling" which is a crazy way to phrase, "she wrote this and it was so bad and we changed it so much that we can no longer say it was written by her"
i liked the escape sequence in the beginning of the second movie
jack sparrow looked great as a wizard for a while
then it all went downhill =(
If there is anything that will turn normies off the show, it’ll be the Snape casting lol
BG3 did 'only' 20 million in a similarish timeframe, still incredible for a CRPG.
But the Hogwarts game did nothing spectacular from a game design sense besides being Harry Potter so
.
It's just a giant cash cow franchise and most people are completely unconcerned about or uninformed of any issues surrounding JKR.
This movie looks pretty good. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=a8RHqN93qfo&pp=0gcJCdkKAYcqIYzv
Forgotten Island - In Theaters September 25
Your best friendship is worth fighting for.
DreamWorks Animation, the studio that brought you unforgettable bonds between a boy and a dragon in How to Train Your Dragon, an ogre and a donkey in Shrek, and a robot and a gosling in The Wild Robot, now welcomes a dazzling and emotional story about two l...
Casting decisions have been terrible for a number of reasons and I imagine she definitely did not help those.
I recently got BG3 and all of my friends are excited for me to play it, I don't think I'd get the same reaction if I just got the HP game
Yeah it’s actually crazy talking to people who aren’t super online and don’t read a lot, cause there’s a 50% chance that the last fiction book they read ever was Harry Potter
For those that dont know truly how serious it is, JK Rowling's lobbying group was a major contingency last year, when trans people were effectively banned from accessing all public toilets
So sure maybe Potter did more sales, but it most certainly didn't have the cultural staying power
Like this is so serious
It is so colorful.
Any interactiom towards this series is money in her pocket, funnelling not just a transphobic campaign
But erasure of trans people from public life
I don't think they're the same sort of audience at all.
Do not watch the trailer, not even to hate watch, or to complain about it.
Every view is a mark in the favour of her continuing her vile campaign.
Okay this is crazy because any HP related content 100% has more cultural power than BG3
It's for this reason that so many things are still marketed as "the next Harry Potter" or "Harry Potter for adults" or that kind of thing
if it wasn't for all the irl stuff around Rowling I might be excited for this show
because there's definitely room for improvement in adapting the books, relative to the movies
Like the three franchises people commonly know are: marvel, Harry Potter and game of thrones
That's fair yeah. I was thinking game to game comparison, but ig it makes sense that really it's "any given HP thing" vs a single really good game
What’s funny is that for a tv show on streaming to make money itself they’d have to add a bunch of new HBO subscribers and then keep them and like if the show is mid as a tv show I wonder how long people stay
Like the game was a one time purchase
I think I'm gonna go re-watch the Dune 3 trailer to restore some of my excitement for upcoming media
Still campaigning for Avenger's Dunesday with my friends
Harry Potter was mid as a book and people still obsess over it lmao
this is so much Harry Potter talk and even complaining about it is still basically acting as word of mouth
Is DC chopped liver to you
As long as it’s fairly well constructed people will watch it
Oh wow I didn’t know that.
The only reason we still have HBO ATM is because we got a student membership and it's cheaper to keep it for a while than quit and resubscribe when the next show we want to watch comes out.
But when that ends we probably will just cancel until it's Gilded Age time again.
Yes
You should also watch that Forbidden Island trailer. Looks really good and is from the director of Puss and boot: the last wish.
cultural cachet is still cachet
even if someone pirates the show to hate watch, that counts in all the ways that matter
Oh no it’s fine, I just hope the DCU restores the image of DC in the general public’s eye
Yeah. The kids I can’t blame, but I will side eye the adults and maybe even the kids parents.
Superman already did very well with general audiences last year
Yup, IIRC it was like 100 million per ep or something
Although I could be wrong
Star Wars made a few mid tv shows and movies and it’s a real problem for Disney. There’s a limit to what people will watch. See rings of power as well
cultural cachet is certainly important but I think that the financial aspect is also pretty signifianct due to how Rowling spends her money
I'm not disagreeing, although I don't think such a world is possible anymore
That’s true, Star Wars was really the lesson in how to squander a franchise lol
Ooo this does look quite good
Me here trying to get people to talk about cool new original DreamWorks movie instead of lame harry potter remake
I suppose datacenter-based AI could be eliminated entirely, but I think we're stuck with local models existing forever (even if it becomes a black market thing)
perhaps the most cliched "slowed down pop song" choice they could have made, when "slowed down pop song" is already a cliched choice
visually it looks good
If Kelsier hadn't recommended watching it I probably would have turned it off the second that song started playing honestly. I'm so tired of hearing it
I ultimately do not think any attempted boycott movements will impact the success of the show tbh
I wasn't saying they would
I did remember where I actually saw the post. (It was Robert Jackson Bennett saying at that rate Lithgow was following in Richard Harris’s footsteps)
Yeah “don’t you forget about me” for a movie where they are trying prevent forgetting about each other isn’t very subtle
yes, of course. my point is that even people who say "oh but i'm not paying to watch it" are still part of the issue
If I were working to make the show fail I would go with apathy and just avoid talking about it over a boycott
At my first job it came on the radio and I said, "hey it's the song from Breakfast Club" and one of my coworkers who was only like 2 years older than me said, "yes! I'm surprised you know that movie"
And then it played every day on the radio for probably seven hundred years
And we're currently failing on that front
It’s an incredibly expensive show that needs eyeballs and attention. Best play is to starve it
certainly it was working until it was posted here
Well if a topic comes up people are gonna having things to say about it 😭
people don't have to
mods can ban the topic if they feel strongly about it idk
"To oppose something is to maintain it.
They say here all roads lead to Mishnory. To be sure, if you turn your back on Mishnory and walk away from it, you are still on the Mishnory road. To oppose vulgarity is inevitably to be vulgar. You must go somewhere else; you must have another goal; then you walk a different road."
Chapter 11 Soliloquies in Mishnory, The Left Hand of Darkness, Ursula K. Le Guin
Streisand effect
in the case of entertainment products I think the ignoring strategy makes sense, but I've never really agreed with the this as a wider philosophy
That was in response to the suggestion of mod ban not your post Zee
The wider context of this quote was about the existance of God iirc. The claim being, "if you base a lot of your worldview around there not being a God you are still limiting yourself to centering your beliefs around the existance of a God" or something like that
sure, I think that's different to "To oppose something is to maintain it"
The HP show is something I will never bring up directly but absolutely will take the opportunity to dump on it and make folks who are gung ho about watching it feel uncomfortable to the best of my ability when they bring it up.
Ignoring it brings me peace of mind but being quiet about it when it does appear is complicity in my book. Not that I expect that of everyone but it never feels bad to toss another rotten tomato Joan's direction.
I think Le Guin's point about not defining yourself around just what you oppose is a good one but I think it's a bit awkwardly worded in that quote
I wouldn't be opposed to this idea. I feel like if the general consensus here is, "nobody really cares about the show and none of us think Joanne should get more buzz than she currently does," then there's not really a reason to talk about it
That's valid, yeah. She's really good at having characters that act and think differently than she does, so tbh it might not even be something that she believes, which would lead to the quote being a little awkward
I think nothing kills a show quicker than somebody asking how it was an everybody being like “eh”
on the point of hp i will 100% be watching it but it will be 🏴☠️
I recommend watching the Dune Part 3 trailer instead, that's already free
I'd rather folks be allowed to talk about it and if they are uncomfortable being told it's bad and you should consider how it makes the community feel then they can take the discussion elsewhere.
It's not like this isn't a topic the community deals with around Brandon occasionally. The difference being Brandon continues to not be a cremstain on society.
I think the point of this quote from the books is that political philosophies focused on opposition rather than presenting a valid alternative are inherently limited. It’s not really relevant to the topic at hand
While I generally agree that we shouldn't make a new thread everytime something becomes a momentarily popular topic, I wonder if it might be worth considering for this. Particularly if discussion continues.
That way it can all be put in its own little walled off container, while folks like Grey and myself can continue to completely ignore its existence.
I would prefer not see it as well
Rowling considers supporting her work and it’s derived properties to be support for her transphobia
With regards to the HP show I think its successes and failures are not impacted by whether we talk about it here so it’s not really a moral issue. It just depends on if the majority of people are comfortable seeing it or not
And at this point, I agree with her
Luckily we're roughly one (1) Standard Entmoot away from the show's release
Do it in the open so I know who to block...
Also nobody was really talking about the show in terms of “look at this cool thing”? People were talking about its success and popularity in a meta way
i'd rather not see it here if i can choose not to tbh
A channel and active participation in it for ongoing HP media would provide a convenient list of folks to be sus about.
I think I'd rather try to keep my time here a more positive experience, even having a channel dedicated to undesireable content would kinda take away from that
It's like the no politics rule. Sure we could set up a channel dedicated to talking about politics, but really I'd rather people just go talk about that kind of stuff somewhere else
why would we need a channel for this before it even comes out
theres not going to be enough chatter imo
I think the discussion is about after it comes out
There was a gaming YouTube channel I used to really enjoy until they decided to actively support the Hogwarts game and fought their own community over it. 😬 I don't mention or share videos from that channel any more. The most sudden and unexpected cringe spike I've ever witnessed live.
yeah i unfollowed many creators over the harry potter game
i don't miss them at all
Streisand effect requires people to be opposed to the censorship though
So is the suggestion to informally ban HP discussion by not banning it but also not allowing people to talk about it?
I think everyone will be happier with a quarantine zone
A quarantine zone legitimises it
because for the longest time "creating channels" has not been seen as quarentine as much as ppl want it to be seen as such
The only people who visit it wil be fans and nobody who dorsnt want to see it does have to
and this supports that
Wow, I've seen a lot of people crying over the HP trailer
if we do this then ALL channels will be viewed as quarenteen
That work was really fundamental for a generation
At this point maybe the discussion should move to #17s maybe? Or maybe we just wait for the mods to come to a decision
When the critical role channel was created it was called a quarantine channel
Please don't diminsh people's complaint's as "crying"
I agree that this is more relevant discussion for #17s
This has become people talking about people talking about talking about Harry Potter
What? I wasn't saying it offensively, I almost cried
if you want to talk about the show you can stay here, if you want to talk about how the server is run then please use #17s
do we have word on if snape is still cast as the person we thought he would be before
Sorry, just the timing made it sound like you were saying that the negative reactions were people crying/whining
Well, the fact of seeing people crying is a demonstration of how that work affected the world, I find it impressive
Every so often Shatner talks like a normal, nice adult which is always a fun suprise
bars from shatner
This is a really sweet thing for him to say
That trailer is asking the bold question of “what if Harry Potter looked like succession”
I remember seeing a video of a guy crying in a positive way about the trailer for Rise of Skywalker, I think there are channels who just have a gimmick of "nerd cries while watching trailers"
A few days ago he tweeted that if TOS was airing today it would’ve been called woke. Which is correct
An unfortunate part of modern life is this kind of stuff. There's a novel that literally cured my fear of death and then the author turned out to be a strange form of evil and I just can't read his works again knowing that about him.
I've said goodbye to so many creators and works and every time I look back I realize I don't really miss them
sort of like how there are channels who have the gimmick of "people pretend to have never heard very popular music until now and cry when listening to it"
Maybe it was the music, but well, who wouldn't make me cry for the music if it's the great Hans Zimmers
Not interested in the show at all but disappointing that Mylod is wasting his time on it
Gaiman?
facts. i'm sure i'll unfollow and block many other people who interact with harry potter, and already have my heart prepared. they can get lost
I really like his music
Also fun Shatner fact- he used to regularly tweet and supernatural
ITS CANCELED??????????
im so sad
They didn't have the word "woke" back in the day, but it most certainly was called whatever equivalent word they had. Just go listen to Nichelle Nichols talk about her time on the show
Yeah, it’s gonna get one more season then end on a cliff hanger
The truth is that I prefer to admire authors who have already passed on to the afterlife
Which sucks because I haven’t seen it yet but it looked fun and now I’m not sure I want to watch it
First time in a decade with no Star Trek. Thus ends the Kurtzman era
Yeah, at least if they're already dead it's easier to separate their work from supporting them as a person
Most good/popular media before 2014 would be called woke if it came out after 2014
Post 2000s trek has been kind on and off tbh
I’ve tried to watch it and it just isnt right vibeswise
Also I’m legit so sad tng and ds9 are now off Netflix
They wouldn't need to update it even. It had a Russian, a Japanese man, an alien, and a black woman all on the bridge crew. And more often than not, they explored planets and met aliens that posed social justice questions.
I was gonna say “what about Enterprise” but uh. You did say good media
istg starwars fans hate starwars and startrek fans hate startrek
I like tng 🥺
Enterprise was good media! Well, the second half of it was. The first two seasons........uuf.
Well, although I feel that when a saga is over I prefer to admire that work than the rest of what the author does, sometimes you can leave very disappointed from there, that's why I admire HP, but not JKR
(but for real, I will die on the hill of defending seasons 3 and 4 of Enterprise)
I watched the first two seasons of DS9 on Amazon but the rest are $30 each and I don't wanna sub to Paramount
I saw a comic years ago about Rick Berman wanting to make a Star Trek for perverts then heading off to make Enterprise
interaction with hp directly puts money into jkr's pocket which is actively being used for evil as long as she lives. there's no separating harry potter from jkr
This is known
Hey don’t say that
Okay yes. But also
the mpreg episode
Especially not where the remaining cast can see
Eventually I'll get to season 3 or GF won't let me hear the end of it
You mean the fifth ever episode. That mpreg episode of Enterprise
Look it doesn't matter because we have Stargate which rises above such quibbles.
(and tribbles)
Wait until we get the reboot
I’m not surprised
The second episode of tng was an orgy
It was a rip off one of TOS’s best episodes
Hey there was news recently and it dials another Chevron for me. I need something to hope for.
Really? Perhaps my point of view is that it is difficult for me not to enjoy something if I am thinking about all the sins that its authors have committed
It was one of the worst tng episodes and followed by the actually worst tng episode
sorry, lots of double negatives there. thinking about the sins of the creator is more enjoyable?
But I think that nothing from these new series will go into JKR's pocket anymore
long live stargate
Or not?
This didn’t make grammatical sense
Always has been
it CLEARLY is going to go into jkr's pocket
100% that is going to jkr
Was I the only one who moved to #17s
I did recently go through my mom's DVD collection, because she's getting ready to downsize. Definitely kept all the Stargate and SG:A DVDs.
But isn't that woman a billionaire?
so what?
no love for Universe?
she'll get more
Reposting this because a little bit of good news is nice from time to time.
Nah, kinda fell off of that one. Should probably go and watch the whole thing at some point.
Sorry, English is not my first language
Billionaires don't become billionaires by ever saying "you know what, I'm content with the wealth I have."
Stargate has a really good time loop episode
GROUNDHOG DAY
Oh god me and my siblings loved that one so much. We'd literally rewatch it every week
this is gonna be a success sadly
Hey! That's my second favorite one!
I still quote this to myself, even though it's been 15+ years since I last watched it.
The problem with today’s genre shows is they don’t get enough episodes to do Everyobe Swaps Bodies or Everyonr Gets Really Old or Everyone Goes to the Beach or Character Is Subjected to a War Crime and We Won’t Mention It Again Ever
Everything’s gotta be plot related now
No more time loops
NO MORE TABULA RASA epps is a crime
Everyonr Gets Really Old
I swear they did a "everyone grows old then timetravels to reset" at least once a season
Stargate even got a sex pollen episode
The positives and negatives of not having to fill out 20 episodes a season
"And that's just how I feel about it. What do you think?"
Stargate all ||This is the finale even||
A trope originating with Star Trek
Yep
Gosh, where would fanfic culture be without Star Trek?
Honestly the first season isn’t bad either it’s just S2 feels like an extension in the worst possible ways
Supernatural fandom is what cursed us with the omegaverse
Specifically actor rpf fandom and the desire to subject Jensen Ackles to misogyny
I wish there were more greet weekly sci-fi shows I can’t help but feel robbed by not being in that sweet spot
Yes but that came from start trek originally too
Like I saw and loved enterprise as it aired
But not much else in terms of iconic sci-fi outside of something like expanse
I'm rewatching Firefly and my main takeaway atm is, "this is good, about as good as most of the other weekly sci-fi shows that were on at the time. It sucks that this one got canned."
I think if there was more stuff that scratched that itch in the modern day people wouldn't be as upset about the show going away
How far in are you
Give me a cheap show with cardboard sets and adobe after effects graphics and a thousand episodes please
Curently on episode 5 I think? The one where ||Mal accidently gets married||
I love that one
I think the episodes we got of firefly are very tight and there is a consistency to it compared to others. Now would it have kept that standard we don’t know but comparing it to something like farescape which oscillates between some of the worst television I’ve ever seen and the best I think there’s a sense of quality that stands out
More what I meant is that it's not singularly great in terms of science fiction shows, there were others that were just as good as it, and I miss living in a time when we had that many good shows.
Sure there were lots of bad ones, but gosh darn it the good ones were good
Yeah it’s not a league above them but it is the one that got cut short and I also believe it was during a relative lul
I heard somewhere that it was cut in part because they released the episodes in the wrong order so people had trouble following the story
Dang, that Forgotten Island trailer was pretty good
That looks like a movie worth watching
(I said that about The Wild Robot, but I still haven't seen it yet)
Didn’t she lose her billionaire status because of charitable donations?
“Charitable”
Her money is going to organizations she helps run that exist to push trans people out of public life
The principle applies to anyone with a large ammount of wealth, regardless of the arbitrary cutoff. And also I really just try to spend as little time thinking about her as I can.
I’m really excited they’re finishing the illustrated versions of her books with an illustrator just as good as Jim Kay
i dont think there are ethical 500millionares just as much as i dont think there are ethical bilionares
there isnt a hard and fast line for me
TADC8: ||So.
That just happened.
Um... WHAT?!?!||
||WHAT DO YOU MEAN KINGER DELETED CAINE? CAN'T YOU JUST REIMAGINE HIM?!?!||
That is all
Or 10+ years later
dont start with that nonsense, that was lobbying to take away trans peoplea rights
I’m sorry, but I’m allowed the same rights to ask questions as you are.
Let's not continue with this tangent, it's a ways off from media now.
huh, how did the boycott backfire?
Oh, I was a ways up oops
It happens to me too. I wish the chat would start closer to the current convo
there is a bunch of discussion in #17s
TLDR on the game;
boycotters, “We are boycotting this game!”
the sea of normies, “What is the game you are boycotting?”
boycotters, “Well they made a Harry Potter game and…”
the sea of normies, “THEY MADE A HARRY POTTER GAME?!?!”
The game then sold 40 million copies, making it in the top 10 most profitable and sold premium games of all time. For comparison, Baulders Gate 3 has sold 20 million
Invincible S4E2 all/The Stand general: ||So we just recreated The Stand eh?||
ive not read that book can you outline it
The Stand all: ||Incredibly fast and deadly virus kills over 99% of the world and humanity regroups||
Very briefly
interesting, mabey i should read that
but yeah we kinda already knew this from previous seasons information
Invincible s4e2 || we did get to see it on display very violently tho this season very viserally with all the bodies and all the carnage||
The book came out in the 90's. The unabridged version is 1400 pages, so you know it's a certified chonker
oh dam
i might read it with my ears then lol
idk if i have time to read another 1400 page book with my eyes right now
Wikipedia says it's only 1100 pages, and the original is 800

It’s such an improvement on the au money stralia season
For whatever it's worth, the back half of season two of Stargate Universe is my favourite run of episodes in the franchise. Season 1 had a mix of things I really loved and things I did not like, though it works a lot better as a binge watch instead of a week by week release I found.
GoT S3E1 || I’m already liking Margaery! She comes across as compassionate and cunning ||
|| Isn’t that Barristan who just saved Dany? 😮||
First episode definitely really good so far, only about halfway through
Do I keep reading my current book or do I go ahead and jump right into my reread of Dune Messiah?
What’s your current book?
Thugwallop by Dito Abbott, picked up at Dragonsteel
Shes also drop dead gorgeous
Easly one of the most beautiful women to ever live
Guess it's not that long, so I'll try finishing it
You’re so right
Facts
The Tudors was uh, a series at times but her Anne Boleyn was easily a highlight
woah
OPLA S2E7 (didn't finish earlier, resuming) ||certainly is some nominative determinism for an actor named Harelik to play Hiriluk||
The gif is burnt into my brain and I like to share
Just bought tickets to see PHM in imax at the planetarium tomorrow
I'm hyped
Time to learn about amaze amaze amaze lol
Based
I’m living an interesting media experience right now. I’m finally getting around to watching Umbrella Academy Season 4. It was something my wife and I watched while we were together before we got married. But she got spoiled before we got around and refused for years to watch season 4 with me because she said the ending ruined everything. Yet, I’m 2 episodes in and really enjoying it so far. I feel like I might be that dog in the burning house right now
oh god the umbrella academy ending
GoT S3E1 || you have good taste||
OPLA broadly, some of these shots I assume are straight from manga panels like S2E7 ||Hiriluk exploding in the Drum Kingdom throne room||
OPLA S2E7 ||oh what the heck, buff chopper||
||that's a man in a costume||
Yeah I still can't believe they did that somehow
I just finished episode three and really enjoyed it. It’s got some weirdness that I’m currently chalking up to them being stuck with six episodes for the season, but I’m liking it
Things must go really wrong in the next three or my wife just really hated the ending for some reason
I also didn’t keep up with any of the discourse about it when it came out
So I have no idea what the consensus is
Yes
So true.
This issue is enterring even anime now 😔
OPLA S2E8 ||Caveat I have not seen/read the anime/manga, but I can see the vision for the Jamie Lee Curtis fancast for Kureha. I do love Katey Sagal here though- maybe they can find another role for JLC||
||stretching lol||
Charithra Chandran is so pretty
Charithra Chandran can do it all.

Ok, will have to finish another day- hopefully tomorrow
GoT S3E2 || What the hell happened to Theon? I know he was knocked out last season but why is he being stabbed 😟||
Im finally watching Cyberpunk Edgerunners, this is great
We are so back 😈
His performance as Nacho is so peak
also as the fc3 guy
Vaas sounds awesome but I never watched all his cutscenes or played the game 😆
dw he has like 3 cutscenes anyway lmao
Just looked it up you weren’t kidding lmao
Lowkey thought he was the main villain
My question is who is he playing?
not an actual character but one of the gundams
gundam, there is only one gundam in the og which appears to be what they are adapting from the images released
ah, ive never watched gundam so idk
don't worry thats just me being pedantic
nah its fine
My immediate thoughts are He could be ||bright or Challia bulll. If they go really out there he could be Gihren. But I kinda want his as Ramba Ral ||
HBO max released in the UK today and I’m a bit jealous that the rest of the world had access to this
Well look on the bright side, now you have a perfect excuse to watch Dune!
I’m banking on the fact that WB might rerelease dune in IMAX before I rewatch them again
Super Mario Galaxy Movie spoilers ||https://fxtwitter.com/supermariomovie/status/2037153866836504878/photo/1||
||Huh||
||If we get a Star Fox movie I won’t complain||
I was about to post this with a spoiler warning, to me it straight up feels like quite major spoilers from Nintendo to just randomly drop that
Literally could have been such a cool theater reveal
Like why did you reveal it?
Actually I’m gonna spoiler it
Give me a sec
Mario Galaxy Movie ||Odds on post credit scene with mario receiving a letter through the letterbox with a special stamp on it?||
Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Yeah dang I wish... I didn't see that actually 😭
there's gonna be a smash bros by 2030
This does mean however that we will likely get ||Krystal||
Aka the Face that Launched a Thousand (Furry) Ships
Spoilered it
Don’t click it if you want to be spoilered for a huge cameo in the Mario Galaxy movie
I’m sure it’s gonna be all over the internet by noon but I’m just being safe
I mean hell they literally posted it themselves
Could have been No Way Home levels of crazy theater reactions
Fingers fricken crossed
Uhhhh
Why?
Because it made a lot of money
Fear of innovation.
I haven't watched the movie version yet but I can't imagine what a sequel to that story would even be
I thought I read somewhere that Weir was planning to write a sequel to the book
well hey, if he has an idea, I'll check it out
here he is asking people for flag ideas for a fictional nation in the possible sequel
This is what I think whenever she’d on screen
Bro no. The book at least finished where it needed to.
Will I read it if he writes it? Probably
Is the sequel gonna be called Project Touchdown
But I still don’t love the idea
Casting in that show is so absurdly good
They couldn't have waited 6 days to post this
Like this would've been an insane april fools joke
||If we do get her I wonder if theyll just stick her in the jumpsuit from Star Fox Assault||
I just finished episode 5 of Umbrella Academy S4. I think it’s rough around the edges since they clearly weren’t given as much money and time as they wanted, but I’m enjoying it? But I have to wait till after work to see the last episode. Maybe that’s when it finally goes off the deep end
I also thought this, so if we both thought it it's probably true
Dude wrote a 16 page lore document for all of the biology in this book, so I would be very surprised if he just left it
It’s insane how good it is! From the main cast to the guests it’s just nails!
I think a story about what was happening on Earth at the time could be really interesting.
Movie spoilers ||At the end when we see Stratt she has a tattoo that is a V with a line through it. This tattoo means that she was in French prison for life. PL & CM and Weir have said that she was broken out of prison.||
PHM (Book, haven't seen the movie but don't mind if you reply with movie spoilers) ||I mostly just feel like I don't see the pitch for a sequel with the main character, yet can't imagine they'd do a movie sequel without him||
PHM both ||I could maybe see a potential sequel being a "Project Homecoming", and it being about establishing more contact with the Eridanians (and bringing Grace back if he's alive)||
PHM both ||I really want to see Earth and Erid post Astrophage crisis making a more formal contact, but not in the movie form. ||
Invincible S4E4: ||Yay Mark isn't wearing the brooding costume anymore!||
Good start, they’ve got two cast members as pretty as the original leads
Now they just need to develop a real life sexual tension they never act on that bleeds through into everything they do together
PHM ||With the strength of xenonite the Eridians will probably just make a physical bridge between the planets so people can meet up||
Loved Himesh Patel in Station Eleven
Ryan Coogler project you say? 👀
Greta Gerwig and James Gunn are friends you say?
So there’s a chance she could direct Wonder Woman you say?? 👀 👀
Isn’t she busy making Narnia films ?

I love it

Wow. I finished Umbrella Academy S4E6 ||It really was as bad as everyone said||
Damn. When did it drop off? I remember enjoying the first two seasons of the show but never picked up season 3.
Spider-Man BND leaks and speculation ||Just realized that Peter is gonna have to fight Jean at some point in the movie, that poor boy, she’s gonna wipe the floor with him
||
||Peter ain’t even lasting 5 minutes with Jean||
||Get him, Phoenix! 🐦🔥 ||
I loved seasons 1/2, and greatly enjoyed season 3. Season 4 is just...a mess
I actually decently liked episodes 1-5, even if they weren't as great
But the finale....woof
||Watch him beat her by using Talk No Jutsu, I bet you 500 dollars that’s what happens||
You’re right and I hate it
||”We don’t have to do this Jean, we don’t have to fight” ahh 🥀 🥀||
Did not know who this person was and welp, now I do.
Apparently Dinniman went on his show a few years ago and subsequently was like: "Never again" when he found out the guy's brand.
So there is hope...
||if peter was less hot he would get squished like a bug||
||considering Jean isn’t a villain I’m not really expecting him to beat her in a no-holds-barred fight.||
yeah, Critical Drinker shows up in a very small role in the third Dungeon Crawler Carl audiobook because I think Jeff Hays might've been a fan at the time? the character is a drunk dwarf so it's not too far off from his youtube persona I guess but was still noticeably bad.
GoT S3E2 || Olenna is such a vibe!!! I was so hoping for someone to call out Westeros’ bullcrap patriarchy, and she delivered 🤩😮💨||
yeah apparently Dinniman didn't really know who he was and thought a YouTuber cameo would be cool and get some attention
I heard he actually liked Sinners and did a positive review of it… on his second smaller channel which nobody watches. Which tells you all you need to know about his grift ‘brand’
I love her
Matt's quote from Reddit on the matter:
"I regret that my books have any association whatsoever with him. I hope one day to have his part in book three removed all together. It's a distraction, and the only edgelord douchebag I want people to think of when they read my books is the AI itself."
Politics in the discussion he responded to.

I doubt we will get anything that self-reflective from Weir but just not stepping in it further would be nice.
The Pitt S2 E12 ||Oh Robby is suicidal ||
oh it goes from subtext to text in this one huh??
guess i'll see when i watch later!
I think that'll need to be censored here lol
Fiddlesticks lol
Anyway I really hope Weir did that interview out of ignorance of Drinker’s beliefs
Phm was great. My one gripe or maybe confusion or something but ||I don't understand why they couldn't get the bacteria trap after they left the planet's orbit. Would have been safer I feel||
||They didn't mention it in the movie, but there'd be too much risk of it getting cooked in the ship's exhaust||
Oh makes sense
The pitt 2.12 ||I get that Robby is not doing great and hasn't been for a long time but he is really in asshole mode this season||
the pitt s2e12 ||er show has to show those effects of burnout with no subtlety so people won't miss them ||
||but the episode was a bit hard to watch. I don't do well with toxic co-workers and environments, and this ep made me want to slap and/or hug practically everyone on screen||
PHM||i could actually see a stratt pov be an interesting story, not really comparable to the awesome problem solving in space stuff, though maybe technology development with astrophage could make up for that||
sorry for replying so far back haha i didnt realize there was so much more conversation
the pitt up to 2.12 ||i think this is a really good way of showing like.... everyone's in pain and these are the ways people are assholes when they're in pain and everybody's wrong and everybody's right. it's hard to watch but there are no evil people always in the wrong here. i really like this aspect, even though it's hard to watch||
the pitt 2.12 ||yeah actually this ep is very intensely ... interpersonal. it's really interesting last episode having a BUNCH of conflicts bubble up and seeing that everyone is responding differently, to each other, things change depending on who's talking privately with whom, certain one-on-ones are adding to some characters' stress and some are doing the opposite, who's challenging whom vs who's telling the other person they're valid. it's kind of just really fascinating writing.||
||i really appreciate the feeling that there were no favourites or unfavourites in the writers' room, that everyone was somebody's favourite. everyone gets sympathetic moments, everyone gets moments that make you go wtf||
the pitt 2.12 ||yeah i was thinking about how around this point last season the tension was increasing just through the plot with the shooting, but this season i feel like the tension is mainly increasing through character issues||
Just realized there is no way the Iron Throne is comfortable 😂😂😂
i mean i like his writing but also
its not that suprising if you look at his writing
I have never got what you’re out of Weirs writing. His stories are very pro-science, specifically science as a solution to problems. Also very heavy on global cooperation.
This is intentional! Something about the king should never be comfortable with the power and position he holds and should be reminded of his mortality or something
His subreddit is nuts lol
I check there periodically and they hate everything but mostly black people
I have no idea if the actual dude is just as bad or not, I think I watched part of his Ahsoka video and then stopped cause the vibes were weird
Whos critical drinker
Right wing grifter
Oh huge yikes…
Well ppl get duped by right wing grifters all the time
Idk if being on a podcast with someone means much these days in the pursuit of promotion of movies and things
Ngl
As cool as PHM is
I just rechecked some Interstellar scenes in YT on my phone while walking around uni campus
And I was still far beyond awestruck
Drinker
Ik it's fun to egg on Nolan when you watch a film or dozen beyond blockbusters and I have grown to dislike the ending of Interstellar
But it's such a singular audiovisual experience
Oh yeah he's a nutjob with an even worse fanbase no point in looking too far
Why do people egg on Nolan?
Hell he might not actually be much of a nutjob, he just grifts them in with a persona
He's seen as a beginner tier director by many
Like the sort you watch when you only begin to get into movies
And outgrow when you look beyond him
He's to cinephiles what Sanderson is to r/fantasy basically
I also dont know how.much choic weir has as to what podcasts hes on
Ahhhhhhhhhhh
I feel like his perception is very weird
He's sure overrated as hell by the blockbuster watcher
But he's also unnecessarily maligned by cinephiles™
How would he not have choice?
Publicity and all the things around it idk how much choice right now he has
I think he might just not be aware of the kinda person Drinker is but I doubt he can't just say no if he wants to lol
I mean, I’m not aware of what kind of guy this YouTuber is
I hadn’t heard of him before last week
Right winger grifter is absolutely all you need to know
Less pathetic but worse than Shad I'd say
Yeah the only other time I had heard of this guy was the last time he was brought up here in relation to DCC
Not a great look though regardless
you know what, that's really apt lmao
Ah
damn
yeah I didn't know about him other than one user being a huge fan
Ina?
well someone in a server we both were was a huge fan and that's the only thing I knew about the youtuber lol
harry potter tv series looks nice. the kids are adorable
If you want a bit of nuance I'd say in his interviews and stuff like that he doesn't actually seem like the nutjob he portrays himself as
But he's 100% a right wing grifter that's for sure, whatever his actual beliefs may be
I worry they will age up too fast tho
Bit of a red flag lol
Most of his videos are complaining about "modern audiences" and "agendas" in new movies and shows
Sounds like it’s more than a bit
I really like the Christopher Nolan films ive seen but he is one of those at the forefront of sucking colour out of big blockbusters
Oh ok one of those guys
Make movies less grey!!!
He's like one of the biggest ones
But based on the name he also sounds like an alcoholic?
His grifter persona is
he's an alcoholic of being critical with media?
I don’t think alcoholism works that way….?
Again I'm not trying to humanise him, I'm just saying he plays a persona while grifting chuds who don't bother with anything but having someone say why minorities in media sucks
Like whenever I think of distasteful characters like that I think of him foremost
pretty sure the drinking thing is a persona
Yeah that
like the red letter media guys
I looked up his most recent videos and they’re not obviously grifty
(Rip my YouTube algorithm btw)
I can kinda excuse him cause he's colourblind
"Netflix pulled off a miracle with OPLA S2!"
And it of course has that thumbnail lol
His Ahsoka video was very like… some valid criticism mixed with very weird vibes plus he had an obnoxious voice
Rip your algorithm indeed
You could have done that on a browser in incognito mode or something probably to have saved yourself
I see JK Rowling is back to her usual now that the HP trailer has been out a couple of days 🙄
mobile youtube app also has incognito btw
the anti-trans usual or stupid harry potter comments usual
Yesterday thanks to JK Rowlings lobby fleet she has managed to get trans girls banned from girlguiding (girls scouts in the UK) and any trans girls have been ordered to quit their membership. On top of that this morning JK Rowling has continued her bullying campaign against olympic gold medallist boxer Imane Khelif under her insane delusion that Khelif is a man
😭
Yeah, my point is that if he doesn’t know his fan base, etc., Andy weir might just be uninformed lol
The imane khelif thing is crazy because she was literally born a woman 😭
or more like his agent was uninformed
he's big of a person that he's not checking his mail and requests to see who invited him
She will not stop until trans women and any woman that shows any vague masculinity are erased from public life
See I wish I was surprised. But I’m not.
We really need HP to just rapidly fade into obscurity and irrelevance and for JK Rowling to lose all her money in some major lawsuit
Like even Brandon has people for that, even tho he sometimes talks on reddit
and isn't as big as Weir
Imane isn’t even trans is the crazy thing. This is literally just the body she was born with, and she’s been raised as a girl from birth
I don't think that's realistically possible.
The general public would go "oooh more harry potter."
and then watch
even some of my classmates are that way
She appears to have a DSD that makes her produce more testosterone but she was quite literally born with a vagina 😭
Ive not watched it myself and dont know TCD stuff but supposedly unprompted Andy Weir made certain references to TCDs content and channel in jokes
I highly doubt that agents are blindly accepting interview requests for the writer and producer to a movie with a budget of hundreds of millions of dollars
it has to be standard practice for pr firms that run these types of junkets to vet interviewers and podcast appearances
But youd have to check it out yourself to confirm, I refuse to watch it
Yeah but that could be as simple as checking his subscriber count and a cursory look at his YouTube page
in this day and age I just can't believe that's the extent of it
Unfortunately I know it’s not
Which shows that the whole transvestigation thing is insane and unbelievably anti womens rights, people born as women are getting consistently harassed in public over it, even removing the horrible bullying of trans women
They also just effectivly banned trans women from competing in the next Olympics in the usa
I get that this started as a discussion of JKR but this isn't really related to #1364954411582885899
Ill move thst to #sports
Back to the point at hand. I can totally believe in the incompetence of teams around celebs
That part is very believable
his voice is grating and he picks on mid media and claims everything wrong with it is bad bc of woke. also he is the classic Only Seen The Most Popular stuff guy so his choice of references is absurdly shallow
That Starfleet Academy one is definitely "I don't understand star trek but non-white and gay people are bad so this show is bad and I am glad it got cancelled and you should be too" grifting
So many ppl in this youtubers sphere are startrek fans mega fans. But also very anti woke and want star trek to go back to when it was less about cultural movements and politics

I thought he did a good job with Oppenheimer but then odyssey trailer dropped and it’s more of the same grey and teal
But funnily enough I think memento is one of his better looking movies and it’s mostly black and white
Not being a Star Trek head myself, my vague understanding is that this means they want every Star Trek going forwards to be Star Trek Enterprise.
My favorite Christopher Nolan quote is from an interview where someone asked him how he feels about people saying Tenet was confusing and he replied, "I think they just weren't paying attention."
Absolute baller move to just blame the audience
Its more so that they thibk that old trek wasnt obvious and in your face with its messaging and themes and they dont think it was woke
we should blame the audience more
When it was so in your face for the time
the original star trek series is about as socially and politically aware as you can get
but that fact isnt actually relevant
TBF strange new worlds, good as it is, is in many ways closer to what they want and closer to what they think TOS was.
It , at times, feels more Stargate that Star Trek to me.
But people also forget how the times change and how transgressive Star Trek was for its time.
Deep Space Nine also had ladies kissing in a couple of episodes which wasn't all that common in the early/mid nineties either
everything gets warped in retrospect
"White person thinks woman of color is a man"
shocker. this is the first time this has happened.
stargate is not politically or socially progressive, but it did have good morality plays
Yeah the individual characters certainly cared but the system did not. That to me is kinda what separated it from Star Trek in theme.
It's pro interventionism and that is the whole prime directive tension they are sort of trying to be a mirror of.
But they also do a decent job of showing why military first actually cause all sorts of problems they have to clean up too.
Atlantis avoids a bit of this by just disconnecting from the system for a while.
that is true, but the problems of military first are always solved by more military
atlantis def is closer to star trek thematically
having a civilian commander, for example
The characters also evolved a lot but bigger ships, bigger booms, was the general progression of the setting.
Excited to see what a new show with a new show runner might bring. Plenty of room to honor the old but also recognize the issues.
no its very relevent, almost all of startrek is almost as socially and politically aware as possible for its time
thats like the whole point
i hope we get more conflicts that are not solved wtih P-90s
that these ppl miss
But also I need zats to show up in one episode then dissapear again as a joke.
no it isnt relevant to why critical drinker is saying what he says
Also well placed claymores.
i was specifically replying to things about star trek academy and complaints surrounding star trek academy
so yes
again
its the whole point
star trek being on paramount with all the things going on arround mergers and sales and aquizitions and everything makes me sad
like im glad that trek is all in one place but i really just dont want to sub to paramount
im also sad that academy is only getting 2 seasons
I haven't watched SNW s3, LD5 or Academy yet for the same reasons 😔
I loved the first two seasons of SNW, and I certainly expect I'll enjoy the third and Academy when I eventually see them.
i just hate the fact that academy isnt going further there was some really cool background characters that you see but dont hear from and i just really wanted to see more of them
It will get another season but no way they can make that have a satisfying end.
Seems like a prime opportunity for an Orville-like upstart to come in and make a show that hits the same notes.
But the folks with the money probably aren't going for that.
Comment on s2 content from showrunners ||I think one of the show runners said it ends on a cliffhanger :/||
Odyssey does look absolutely disgusting
Like I find Oppenheimer fine but as always it was a great audiovisual experience
Odyssey looks just crap upon crap
Yeah ||production was probably far enough along they can only mitigate not fix though they may also be hoping for a saving throw somewhere which would be a disservice||
||I'm pretty sure shooting had finished by the time the cancellation was announced. If not by much.||
NUUUUUU
I just want to finish ds9 and rewatch tng
they also talked as season one was 1st comming out that they had plans for multiple cohorts
and just a long term thing
its sad that they cant do that
yeah 😔
I watched TNG not that long ago, but I do definitely want to finish DS9 too
From the first two seasons that was easily my favourite of the old trek shows.
@molten jetty Spider-Man leaks and speculation ||We are so back https://fixupx.com/cryptic4kqual/status/2037543116199088455?s=46||
Wwwwwww
Alright so
I talked with a Discord moot who saw a Supergirl test screening
They loved it
Do with that what you will
They also gave Superman a 10/10
I fully expect to enjoy it
Extremely
This episode was 50% that and also bringing up some other plotlines that just felt like Easter eggs and random stuff
Again?
Which seems... Worse. Cause that is kinda his job
Dhurandhar 2 wasn't as good btw
it kinda got into the nationalism territory for me (when in one it was careful to not really cross that line) and then it padded the action sequences with the usual Bollywood nonsense and almost reached the KGF territory
Is that so?
Damn
What is funny is that due to such a close time of release between the 2 movies we can't even say that this was something that happened afterwards
I think about 40 mins could be cut from action
They were always planning to introduce these elements
Cut 40 min from actions and cut like 1 or 2 dialogues, and it would be a 5/5
Tom trilogy? Aren’t there already 3 movies with him?
Yeah but they’re doing 1 more trilogy with him
"this"
There's the Home trilogy, and Brand New Day starts a new trilogy
Wonder what the naming scheme will be
Does the end of the third one actually pull it into a closed, comprehensive trilogy? Or is it purely a name-based thing?
It does
It ends a complete phase of his life
How well you can debate
No Way Home ||It ends with his identity wiped from people’s minds, Aunt May dead, and no friends. He has just graduated high school too||
Would be funny if "Brand" becomes the naming scheme
Need a "Brand Synergy" film that's him teaming with a Goblin or something xD
|| Yeah the BND trailer conveyed the whole “people don’t remember him” thing. Knowing only that, it seemed like that is kinda a cliffhanger/clear setup for a sequel? ||
||As far as I know, it’s irreversible. So it’s a new phase in his life||
Maybe that’d be a good thing to throw on in the background while playing Pokemon tonight…
BND trailer ||Part of me is surprised theyre doing the biological/Man-Spider stuff cause the Spider totem stuff could have been a fun thing to tee up after having him interact with magic||
||I mean, after Madame Web…||
||Like, idk the magic angle feels more relevant to current MCU.
Like it's not bad, im just, huh||
Though this saga has been pretty incoherent anyways so
Anyways, yeah I think Miles is most likely if they arent dumb
And im a bit of a contrarian and unlike most of the internet im not just presuming that Secret War will be a hard reboot
Can they do Miles? Do they have the rights?
I would think Sony would block everything due to the Spiderverse movies
they had donald glover as his uncle, in an oblique kinda way
those rights are weird, but also by the time the question is relevant Spider-Verse will be finished
This is 2026, franchises don’t end, they get milked until they’re dead
