And this ties in with the thematic point that they trust each other enough that they don't need teamwork. They know their friends can handle their own fights, and they know their responsibility is to beat the person in front of them. But the live action keeps on making people fight together. Even in minor moments, other characters pitch in. And that's cool on a surface level, but it makes me feel like they don't understand the real point.||

||||I think they did the most adequate, mediocre, serviceable job possible of fixing their mistakes with Usopp in S1. They got across what they needed to establish that he is someone who will pull through and act despite his fear for the sake of his friends, but they just did so in the most standard, boring way possible. He's at least caught up to what he needs to be instead of having stuff missing. They really put a lot of focus on him choosing bravery because others inspire him to. But what's supposed to work about him is that he chooses that from the start, that he was always someone who will stand up when it comes down to others' lives. He's less interesting if he has to be taught that.||
||Specifically, they kinda just got across the basics in Little Garden, by having everyone else be trapped or missing, and Usopp is the only one left. So he has to choose to fight to protect them despite his fear. Of course, he only realizes he should do this after Broggy gives him a pretty generic speech about how bravery is about doing stuff in spite of fear. So like, we get him to what he needs to be, his character isn't entirely missing that like it was in S1. But it's way less interesting than just plain old original Syrup Village was.||

OPLA/OP all ||Like Garp in OPLA S1 is just kinda bad, at least at the finale (I liked him before that). Him just testing Luffy is just a completely wrong take on his character and that negatively affects S2 as well. But it felt the need to do that because if they're going to include Garp in the season arc, they need to include some kind of narrative wrap-up, some bow on it. A more accurate portrayal of Garp wouldn't give show viewers a feeling of closure. If the manga included Garp early on, it just wouldn't mind that; you don't need that closure becuase that isn't an endpoint, it's a continuous story that will pick things up where it needs to. But the show isn't willing to do that.||

Okay so first off, my rave thoughts before I go through sporadic thoughts about each episode. Biggest highlight was Zoro being more of a dummy because Mackenyu was cooking, the writers were cooking. Zoro was GOATED.
Miss All Sunday was a highlight ofc ofc.
Smoker and Tashigi were adorable. (THAT LAUGH).
Buggy is goated.
Okay now episode thoughts.
E1:
10/10. i heard barto cameo and thought cameo not him being integral lmao. Luffy laughing was so goooood. Zoro’s sword scene was my favorite scene of the night. Tashigi’s jeepers meter was off the charts. Buggy was fun ofc. Wasn’t really feeling Alvida (probably my only complaint of the episode). Smoker had aura. And ofc my fav got a nice cameo. Better than I expected. (Zero chance he appears outside of flashbacks in LA). Usopp got his stupid glasses YAY.

I've been watching a lot of How Its Made youtube uploads (one of the few good things Discovery Channel has done in the past few years), and something I never realized as a kid is how wild some of the statements made by the narrator are given that its, ostensibly, a very matter of fact, but still warm and cozy show about... how stuff gets made. Its pleasant. But then the narrator will say alluminum is "unbreakable" and "infinitely lighter [than cast iron]". Like, I can recognize he's speaking colloquially, not factually, but it feels wild in and of itself to transition to that when introducing the topic of the next segment

Also, when showing how Panettonne is made, the narrator just changes how he pronounces it partway through and its almost as maddening

It's my fav movie in general atp so like

Uh let's start with the most obvious thing about a movie

The visuals

Now I don't think it was exceptional cinematography or anything (it's bloody good though) but I think it gets something else across very well

Looking extremely pretty all the time

I think it has my fav visual style of anything ever

I think it's very well acted and paced because I'm quite itchy to runtimes going past the hundred minutes mark but it kept me engrossed for 2.5h straight

I love the subversion from the book too although I do think it makes the movie a shallower experience, but not necessarily a worse one

I especially adored the second half and the ending

I think it has one very noticeable flaw ||the creature going to the ruins after the inferno and finding stuff in legible condition|| and I do think some of the CGI is a bit off especially compared to the gorgeousness of everything around it

But save that it worked for me on every possible level

The movie I saw before it being possibly the worst thing I ever saw also helped it feeling way better perhaps

Aside from Namond most of the kids end up in worse situations, Carcetti chooses his own prides over doing the right thing, Bubbles is at rock bottom and major crimes is swamped in bodies. Pretty much everything we see about Draco is negative, but we also never actually get his perspective, so it's really easy to stamp whatever head cannon you want onto his actions.||
||Plus, he's the primary Slytherin representation, and a fair number of people like the house for one reason or another, so they want the main person from there to be likeable.||
||To me he's always just been a little racist boy raised in a racist family, and best case scenario for him is, "Yeah he's a Nazi but he's working on it." I wouldn't want to be around him, but I can understand why people latch onto the only thing they're given.||

"Is that because of our fraternization with our younger sister's lady's maid?" "If you wish to compare apples to opera singers, we can certainly do that." THE GIRLS ARE FIGHTINNGGGGG!!!! 😍 ||

(S4 general thoughts) ||I'm not having a miserable time with S4 (that's just the way the meme is) but it def did annoy me with episode 3. The rest of it's been good but I'm not fully hooked on Sophie and Benedict. I like them both a lot, but I don't know that I'm fully bought in on the chemistry between them. There's a lot of aspects of their relationship that feel like they're coming too fast. I feel like the writers are trying to portray Sophie as someone who is imminently practical and responsible, but who keeps slipping into feelings because she just feels just so strongly for Benedict that she can't help it, and while I like that premise, I don't feel like I've fully bought in that her feelings should actually be that strong here, so it's not entirely fully landed. It's not bad but it's definitely not running at full speed for me. I'll give it like... a 75% for me.||

OPLA S1E7 ||Man, I can totally see Usopp, Zoro, Sanji, and Luffy being so distracted even while piloting the ship that a traditional "Land Ho!" -> "boat sailing towards very prominent land" transition is an honest portrayal of the passage of time ||
