What makes it one of the best
Everything except the villain
No the villain is the best part
are you talking about ||ben kingsley or guy pearce||
both
making||the mandarin just some white guy and using that to talk about how biases and racism affect a lot of militaries is jsut so perfect||
||Especially since the mandarin has been a weird racist stereotype that should be evaproated for most of his history||
||they don't say anything interesting with it though ||
||I personally do not find whitewashing to be a great solution to stereotypical characters||
||he lacked aura and was boring||
@molten jetty @lone canyon how mad do you think george is about the cosmere deal
The man who finished another author’s unfinished book series gets a fully controlled adaption of all his major books
It’s the anti-George
Id be fuming if i was him
at this point I think his natural state is fuming
wait the jimmy olsen show isnt a meme
Maybe he should focus on finishing his book rather than getting mad
okay
but
jimmy olsen
this early
before batman or the flash
especially since grodd is a flash villain
grodd needs to try and kill obama anyway for it to be a faithful adaptation
i should attempt to watch the arrowverse
tbh
ive never tried to beyond flash
It was quite weird
My MCU hot take is Shang Chi is a top 5 MCU film
Personally it's my second fav after Winter Soldier and is one of the only two MCU films I rated 9/10
The action is so good
Only MCU film where I found the CGI not just cool but beautiful
thats not a hot take
its so good
I barely see it even mentioned
Its so so good
Probably because marvel did nothing with shang chi for like the last 3-5 years despite the popularity of the movie
del Toro
Gimme the physical copy of Frankenstein already del Toro
Please del Toro I need it del Toro
del Toro
HAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH
physical copy will be an extended cut
Oooh
it's my fav film of his
and honestly my fav film
it's neither flawless nor the best movie I've ever seen
but it just hits yk
I don't think it matters
You can point out it does make Harry seem really racist I guess
My real problem with anything Harry potter is JK Rowling's war against trans rights
yes thats the whole reason why it is a poor decision because it makes harry seem super racist and adds elements to the character intrinsicly that complecate snaps backstory and the things between snape and harry
And his dad also lol
Especially his Dad
If you had asked me a decade ago I'd care more
its just one of a bunch of issues surrounding the harry potter tv series tho
But JK Rowling being so awful just makes me apathetic about the show at best and actively rooting for it to fail at worst
Yeah same
Hp all ||It makes the character in a white-supremacist coded group black||
It's somehow become an existential threat to my existence and safety as a trans person
Hp all ||generally I don't see raceswapping as that big of a deal but I feel like swapping a character who has so many ties to/coding towards ideas of race and class brings a lot of implications||
I hate Harry potter
Tbf Harry ||does end up a cop|| lol
Spoilers need to be tagged even if you dislike the IP
HP ||I have no problem with recasting Snape as someone radically different as I don't think anyone could outdo Rickman conventionally but making him black specifically is going to create some... unfortunate implications especially in that one scene in the order of the phoenix with the Marauders||
@teal phoenix
Even if the property didn't age as horribly as it did culturally I still think a remake is completely unnecessary
i would mabey say in another 20 or 30 years
mabey
but now its unnessary at best and a disgusting cash grab by a hopefully soon to be irrelevent terf
Didn’t people like the movies/view the movies favorably? I honestly don’t remember
I'm not fundamentally opposed to retelling a story that had been done as movies in the form of a more in depth series
poeple do have a mostly favorable opinion about the movies
See I feel like if that’s the case then a remake is always entirely just unnecessary
agreed 100%
like i can see the idea of making a tv series thats more indepth out of a movie series when there are places to explore or when the movies werent that great
or where its been long enough that almost everyone in the movies are dead
or things like that
but this specific situation and because jkr is a trash human i just dont see it as a good thing that hp is getting a tv series
they were hype at the time and mostly still hold up but their quality vacillated massively also they weren't very book accurate
Yeah JKR may influence my views but if you have an adaptation and it isn’t like… Eragon, then I think it’s a waste to just make another adaptation. Adapt something new. There are plenty of books out there
or create original ideas
Or that
theres certianly a lot of things going on that are original tv series's
I sometimes forget that not everything is an adaptation
i would even be okay with a pre or post harry potter event where its separate from jkr and its like the maruaders or its a post harry potter books world or something
Because for a while I kept finding out almost everything new seemed to be an adaptation
-# sinners was new does that count
I honestly disagree. Like, when I say this I'm not talking about Harry Potter, but like, I can easily imagine a worthwhile series take on LOTR proper that leans into aspects of the story the original adaptation skipped
even though those movies are beloved and iconic
-# yes more sinners propaganda for you all this fine morning 😌
maybe a version that hits Saruman from his book angle a little better would be nice
I can't talk about Harry Potter because I've honestly never read past the first book or the first movie, and at this point I don't really expect I ever will
but just as a fundamental idea, I think another version can have merit
theres a lot of the world to explore outside of the mainline books that could be good if jkr died and wasnt involved at all
i think untill she does and someone else that isnt a trash human takes over it dosent diserve anythign
On one hand, I think that there's no reason for a rule against reexaming a piece of media, against seeing what happens when new people explore their own interpretation
On the other hand, the idea that these franchises are expected to constantly renew themselves just so they can remain relevant and monetize themselves further with each new generation is troubling to say the least
its a simular issue with live service games these days
no art can just sit and live and be static
HP doesn't deserve it either way I hope it dies
i do disagree there is a lot of explore in HP, i think everything falls apart when you think about it outside of the main 7
rowling hasnt put in the worldbuilding or character legwork to have it support other stories
other than nazis bad?
A big corporation throwing hundreds of millions into some new definitive take just feels a lot different from like, writing and performing a new take on a Shakespeare play that places it in a different cultural context
or making some a movie about romeo and julette that takes place in modern times
i think there is also a big difference between star trek the next generation, which is an explicit sequel, vs just doing the original series again with different actors and a worse story
just to be specific loved that movie
we seem to be getting more of the second
i did have to study a bunch of baz luhrmann movies in highschool since my teacher was obsessed with him tho
i graduated in 2008 tho
just for referance to his filmography at the time
There was one in the works, but it never went through
I'll be one of the 7 people in the target audience
Black Company might be too perfect as a book to be adapted
okay but its the guys that finished the game of thrones tv series
sorry
There's probably been a few attempts that fell apart
i dont make the rules
I mean recently. Around covid times I think
But also Black Company is the kind of thing where an adaptation could be great by doing its own thing rather than trying to recreate it perfectly...
I think I tend to prefer adaptations that do the former
The Lady would do numbers on tumblr
I don't want to see an exact recreation I wanna see episodes they made up that work better for tv
Black Company general post-book 3 ||You cannot be talking about this when you haven't read the Books of the South yet man||
||You don't understand||
I need to track down a copy of the first glittering stone book
I thought she’d retired and gone to work as a psychologist?
The Lady will 100% do numbers on tumblr. My proof of this is the Lanfear Stan’s
Lanfear and the Lady appeal to the same demographic
I think the Lady is way more compelling than lanfear
A lot of the foresaken are kinda 2D outside of like asmodean and Ishmael
Its a running problem
Is he?
I liked him
I don’t lik mopey people so I never latched onto him
Idk i always found the forsaken but be a bunch of wet farts
The Lady, now there is an evil imperial woman
The lady is definitely a better character than any of them
She's not cartoonishly evil which helps
They were systemically undermined by wot gen ||L + RATIO + I WEAVE A WILL WEAVE WITH MY WILL THAT HAS NOT BEEN WOVEN IN 3000 YEARS + TWO RIVERS SWEEP|| being the climax of every book
I love The Lady so much that's all I can say without spoilers
We stan (black company)||a woman who finds out someone wrote rpf about her and is flattered enough to hit on him an also repeatedly put his life in danger ||
You aspire to be that level of attention loving
Honestly I have no clue what exactly fell apart. This is just the announcement at the time.
||Croaker freaking the hell out when he finds out she knew about that is really funny||
Honestly, Natasha would play a great Lady
Wot All ||I liked morridin because he had something going on||
I feel like i have seen several attempts at the domineering evil magically overpowered absurdly beautiful woman, like the jasnah in people’s mind, and the Lady is by far the best
Lady Envy is a goofier version of that
The Black Company Books of the South ||I love how Lady just loves putting together absurd over the top evil overlord outfits for her and Croaker to wear. Yes honey we need to dress up for the dinner party and also the war. Yes honey, black leather and spikes with flames firing out of the shoulders was the peak of fashion 400 years ago.||
I really want to read Lies Weeping but my library hasn't acquired it on Libby
hahaha
What about Lady Spite though?
Not as beautiful
wow
I had someone tell me I wouldn't like Malazan because I like wheel of time and Brandon Sanderson
They got very elitist about it
It was very weird
Toll the Hounds ||and this is why fisher kel tath is the greatest character of all time||
But you also like The Black Company, so I'd say give Malazan a try
They also said the Warhammer novels where better than anything Brandon Sanderson had ever written because the author went to Oxford
Very bizarre conversation
And tbh, from what I've seen, part of that seems instigated by Erikson himself
I think there is a non elitist version of this take
Depends on what you like
I feel similarly about the black company for example
yeah, I don't think this has to be 'elitist', there are some dramatically different strengths and weaknesses between the two
(maybe it is anyway, I wasn't there)
like bringing up the Warhammer novels means they're probably being elitist
They were being very elitist about it or it came across that way
there are good warhammer novels but bringing them up to be elitist is hilarious
prestiege just because of where you went to university as a creative is crazzy to me
Malazan and SA are about as far apart stylistically as big fat epic fantasy books can get
gatekeeping around where an author went to school so so nuts
I think there is a real factor that, if Malazan works for you, then what you get out of it is just something special that you don't tend to get out of other book series, but I definitely dislike anyone who gets elitist about that
It should be "hey, what this does is really cool, if it's your thing, in addition to how other series do different cool things" not "this thing is good so everything else is bad"
"you just arent x quality enough to enjoy malazan" is such a cooked take
as someone who tried to get into Malazan once or twice, like 10++ years ago, it is hard and not for everyone, so I guess I can see why it could attract elitists
I think basically every fandom has quirks like this
Look at how brandon was the bane of r/fantasy for years
Oh he still is
r/worldbuildingcirclejerk loves making fun of him, or did when I still used reddit
Haven't really been on there much recently
Last time I went on there someone tried to tell me about the Masonic references in wheel of time
I decided I should stop using reddit after that
We need more of these as love interests / main characters and not pervy older women preying on the young male protagonist
I say this as nicely as possible: Reddit Malazan fans can be elitist and condescending
Malazan fans can be elitist and condescending in any space
This was in a discord
Ah
Yeah Malazan fan moment
Reminds me of all the people saying “Sanderson sucks you should read real fantasy authors like Robin Hobb”
i feel like it comes from a feeling of superiority that others just dont get it and you are better because you get it and its hard to get into
i think anything with a high barrier of entry that is also of a certain quality produces similar fans
One Piece is another example
hell stormlight, depending on who you talk to
Tbh I think Malazan’s barrier of entry is overstated
The real barrier of entry is (DHG) ||making it through hundreds of pages of desert travel||
i dont think malazan fully lock in until the end of DHG, but that doesnt make the start of the series bad
same way i dont think one piece lock in until alabasta
and then its like oh, this is what the series is
~~One Piece didn’t lock in until Water Seven ~~
one piece was good in East Blue 🙄
I like all of the beginning of One Piece but I think OP wasn’t “peak” level until W7
no one said east blue was bad, it is just not nearly as good as the rest of it
I locked in baratie and arlong park
I think it wasn’t until W7 that it was clear Oda actually had a plan because he didn’t before that
everything was fun to read, but on a structural level, it was a lot more episodic adventures
Skypeia felt structurally episodic for you?
Yes
rick and morty is probably the clearest example of something being ruined for a lot of people by the fans
the show is legit good
I feel bad that I hit my sister with the "you didnt get it" talk when she finished bojack horseman but in my defense she didn't actually get it so 😭
ScHeZwAn SaUcE
sometimes people misread media
happens
we once had someone argue azula for ATLA wasnt evil
like ok, sure, whatever you say
Sometimes people get media and also just don’t like it tho (but Cosmic’s sister is probably wrong)
ATLA ||I love Azula’s character. I think so many people say she’s evil and refuse to see she is a product of her upbringing and neglect in the same way Zuko was, but Zuko was afforded a second chance and someone who could help him grow to be better: Azula never was. ||
||i think azula is also just straight up more evil than zuko. you see this during the flashback to when they are kids||
Bojack Horseman ||She related deeply to bojack himself, which in itself isnt a bad thing. But she also hard focused on how self loathing he was and didnt realize that her saying that she was just like him wasnt great?? And lost the rest of what the show tried to say: that just because you are full of self loathing and had a terrible childhood doesnt make it okay for you to spread that misery to other people. Bojack is also straight deplorable 😭||
ATLA? ||You can be a product of your upbringing and also Evil||
||The sympathy for their past doesn't excuse their current actions||
||but Azula was always with her dad and picked those traits up from him. She wasn’t naturally evil: the people in her life who could have taught her differently never cared to. Her mother gave up on her. ||
Duck is lowkey referencing a specific person who was once in this server and you literally could not talk about Azula without them chiming into to say she was misunderstood
ATLA ||and I would argue Zuko and Iroh were both evil in their pasts too||
bojack is not a good person and the show only works when you realize this
he perpetually uses every legit bad thing that happened to him to justify unrelated behavior and never puts in any work to actually improve his life or his relationships
but he is funny and famous and so he gets away with it
yes
Oh yeah it was haha
All of that went over her head, and I knew it would have so I told her not to watch it because she'd only take away (BH ALL) ||"woah. He thinks hes a stupid piece of crap. I have those same thoughts too! We are so alike tee hee" I had to remind her that he choked his gf and nearly had/wanted to have sex with a teenager in high school. Whatever level of terrible you think you are, Bojack is worse 😭
gosh its why the ending is so fantastic. All hes strived for was attention, someone to love him and he gets nothing. He loeses his friendships, and becomes alone because thats what he deserves. Mmmm tasty tasty show 😋||
I love bojack so much its not even funny
I suppose. That said I still feel like it’s better to explore new stories than to retread existing stories that were already adapted and done well.
Adapting other material in the same world that hasn’t been adapted? Great.
Adapting into a series something that got a single movie that didn’t do well and actually fully adapting a series (like HDM). Great.
But like… idk I just kinda hate the idea of re-adapting stories that had already successful adaptations myself. It feels like a waste of resources and feeding into a culture where everything is just rehashing the same stuff and feeding on nostalgia
Wait I just remembered (ATLA) ||isn’t Azula 13????||
Like the Disney live action remakes…
The younger the child the more evil they are
||it's a cartoon, no one looks or acts their age||
i fell off with bojack, mainly bc i found the humor and side character kinda dull, but bojack himself is a really well down study on how someone can be a bad person without kicking puppies or burning buildings. It is a very realistic portrayal of how someone becomes the worst person you know
also a really good examination about how self loathing is just a means to dodge responsibility
so yeah dont relate to that guy
if you do it is a sign you should stop doing what you are doing immedietely
you can kind of make the same argument against doing adaptations to begin with
the Cosmere has already been told, I'd rather have a movie that was a new story
I mean I don’t disagree
I have been a very vocal opponent to Cosmere adaptations.
Not because I don’t think it’d be cool to see them or anything. I’ll of course be excited to see them.
BH s3 spoilers + lanugage
||This basically sums up what you said but I have to share it because its my favorite F bomb in the series 😭
https://youtu.be/ohoLzH9EQzg?si=tgbceSxCUBEfck_8||
I wanted to get the first few seconds of Bojack trying to justify himself that no one has shown.
fair, I'm generally all for Mistborn getting a movie, and skeptical about Stormlight, FWIW
but like, I don't necessarily think stories have to be one and done, I think our history is filled with stories that have evolved and adapted over time, and re-adapting something is just a way that can continue to happen
I don't think the first version is automatically the best version or the only version of a story that needs to exist
i think adaptations are in a different bucket bc it is the first time most people watching the show experience that story
The only adaptation I actively want to happen is Expanse books 7-9.
Like I’ll be excited about Cosmere adaptations because it’s happening and I can’t change that, even if I’d much rather have new stories.
I do think that also is valid
That’s fair
their new book series would be an awesome adaptation too
That’s why I did caveat successful adaptations.
Like even if it could in theory be done better, if there’s a good adaptation, usually re-doing it just ends up with it being worse
Have yet to read it
Expanse is one of the only adaptations I’ve seen where it didn’t just feel directly inferior to the books. But I read the books after and haven’t finished my rewatch following reading the books
well, i think foundation improves on the books as well
Expanse is sort of a strange one to me, there were a couple things I liked about it, a couple things I thought they did better than the books, but I thought 70% of it was worse
where foundation is veryof its time and the tv series improves a bunch of things that are issues
Yeah not saying it doesn’t happen
for what i have seen of the show, which is admittidely very little, i think the show is just a straight upgrade
Like I said, I didn’t finish my rewatch but I honestly still was enjoying the rewatch after. Maybe it stems from seeing the show first.
I think both the show and books are great
Black Company book 1 all ||especially at the end where Croaker realizes she's a horrible monster and stops pining after her
||
I thought season 3 of The Expanse was better than the book, for the most part, but the rest of it not so much
I wound up not even finishing season 5, honestly?
but also I'm an Abbadon's Gate hater, I almost set the series aside in that book
Rewatch I only got up to s2e9 it seems
I wish New Jedi Order could get an adaption but that’s never happening
5 and 6 were definitely my least favorite books. I think iirc I liked s5 and s6 more due to novella incorporation
Assuming memory is right
Strange dogs is still my favorite part of the expanse books
I feel like there are two kinds of Expanse fans, people whose favorite books are 3 and 5, and people whose favorite books are 4 and 8, I'm among the latter
(people who like 4 tend to dislike 3, and vice versa)
I loved 3. Loved 4. Was meh on 5 and 6 because it felt like a side quest to what in my eyes was the real main plot of the series
3 certainly moved the plot forward by the end, but I much preferred the way they told that story on TV
I’ll have to get back to that rewatch eventually
what about the ones that have forgotten what happened in what book?
Asking for a friend
Basically, [Expanse] ||do you care more about the conflict with belters or extraterrestrials||
My main gripe with the show was that S6 was the end, and all of the plot threads I was most invested in a the new threads introduced that I was excited about were left open ended. And then the show was over. And I found out that 3 books didn’t get adapted lol
I think the best adaption I've ever seen is the Akira Movie
It cuts a lot of stuff out but mostly for the benefit of the plot
the nice thing is that they have all the time in the world to decide to make it, they're supposed to wait 30 years in theory
they've laid all the groundwork for it in any case
Yeah I do hope that it will eventually happen
They did such a good job casting that show
Luckily I have the books so if it doesn’t ever happen then I’m also fine now
honestly, as someone who read the books first, I didn't love some of the casting, but the people they picked made the roles their own and it worked just fine on TV
Like I loved books 7, 8, and 9. I got to see the story completed. I’m good
Yeah that’s very fair. I think it’s always super hard to read books first and then watch an adaptation
This has been my primary criticism of HP since long before JKR removed herself from public favor
I think I'm more 4 and 8 than 3 and 5 and I see the pairings but I wouldn't say I come anywhere close to disliking 3 and 5 much less hating them
I thought 5 was a good book, I didn't dislike it by any means
3 I was basically skimming it
at least somewhere around the halfway point to near the ending
I do not see the pairings
5 in particular is on the high end for me because it is the first book where the actors' choices for the primary cast dovetail into the book characters in an interesting way
Expanse all || 5 and 6 didn’t advance protomolecule plot at all. And I found that frustrating ||
Gorilla in a phone booth
I think the crudest way to say it is that 3 and 5 are very character focused and 4 and 8 are very setting/plot focused
3 had || the stuff with the gates and protomolecule || though!
For a horrible second I thought the live action Akira had come out and you were referring to it
It did, which is why I called it a crude description
Abaddon's Gate/s3 show ||I think if you're here for the protomolecule primarily that 80%+ of AG is very frustrating because most of the people in the story spend a good deal of time focused on each other instead on the obvious and fascinating mystery of their location||
||I also personally didn't appreciate how big the slow zone was until like book 7 or 8||
RoTE showed me I can be all for character focused stuff.
But expanse through 6/expanse show all || if you have been building up an interesting main plot and then drop it for 2 books to exclusively focus on characters and a sub-plot, frustration (for me) ||
I don't think Ty or Dan would consider 5/6 a side plot at all, I certainly don't
one day I'll finish the expanse books..
one day
Expanse all ||It is extremely important to the fabric of the story that bad potentially humanity ending threats come primarily from within humanity and from within every major power within humanity||
I am sure they don’t.
But expanse all || For me the main plot of the show was the protomolecule stuff. That is the driving element of all the books except books 5 and 6, unless I’m misremembering substantially.
Yeah sure I could see the argument that it’s the whole mars vs earth vs belters stuff. But when I was watching the show and again when reading the books, it really felt to me like protomolecule plot was plot #1 and the Martian vs Terran vs Belters thing was plot #2.
Iirc both the books and the show open with protomolecule plot and spark that mystery of “what is this?” ||
Expanse ||The protomolecule does have primary importance, but particularly as a catalyst for human events. The driving arcs for Holden and for the primary antagonists (JP Mao for Earth, Marco for the Belt, and Duarte for Mars) aren't so much about the protomolecule itself but how they react to it||
||Duarte specifically works as a final antagonist because his reaction to the protomolecule is to try and use it to "uplift" humanity, and that dovetails with exploring the mystery of the protomolecule, but that says much about him as a person as well. And he isn't (and wouldn't) be alone in his reaction||
They're good!
sigh leviathan wakes rests on my bookshelf 😭
Wake it
I'll just keep watching the show 😂
there's three whole unadapted books, and several characters were thrown in a blender, so you should definitely do both
Oh im gonna do both! 😈 later, maybe when im off my anime buzz 😂
I'm on book 7 of the expanse and I didn't like it
I've had a string of bouncing off of books
It was that, then the priory of the orange tree prequel, then Consider Phlebas, then my eotw reread, and then Titan by Stephen Baxter
I did manage to start the third Earthsea book though
got through episode 4 of Wonder Man; the second MCU project by Destin Daniel Cretton after Shang Chi (he was tapped for Kang Dynasty but stepped down), and it reminds me I do like when MCU does the smaller stories. ||I about died when the remix of "In Summer" came on in the 4th episode. Really like Trevor Slattery's development here, and I feel like Ben Kingsley's having fun just rattling off periodic Shakespeare as he riffs with Simon||
noooooooo
Agreed ep 4 ||Josh Gad was hilarious||
Oh damn 😭
Responding to this one as both.
|| Both points definitely very fair. That said, without the protomolecule the entire story just… doesn’t happen. Books 5 and 6’s plot would possibly still happen - the whole belter force let by the guy. It would just play out differently of course in a number of ways. But it’s not at its core driven by the protomolecule. That’s just kinda how I see it all at least||
Well this sucks
RIP to a legend
I'm a weirdo whose favorites are 5 and 8
Book 4 didn't work for me, I think I was spoiled by seeing the show first which did that story much better imo.
Expanse
||> For me the main plot of the show was the protomolecule stuff.||
||I'd argue the opposite, personally. In the books, the story was far more focused on the protomolecule from the get-go: Holden and Miller were the only PoVs, and the Earth/Mars/Belter politics were mostly in the background for the first book. Meanwhile in the show, they brought Avasarala front and center from the get-go, making the inter-humanity conflict much more prominent and important to the plot.||
||Without the people the story doesn't happen either. The Expanse is a sort of first contact story, and is fundamentally about how humans respond to the alien. JP Mao tries to subjugate it, Marco tries to pretend it doesn't exist and fights yesterday's war instead, Duarte tries to surrender to it, and Holden fears it (which turns out to be the more or less correct response in this case), and all of these reactions are the driving forces of the story||
|| Ahh sorry I didn’t mean to say show. Meant to just say in general. Show and books. I get what you mean though and appreciate your perspective. ||
Expanse all || Definitely very fair/valid and a thoughtful analysis. Hadn’t thought about it that way but I can agree with the assessment.
Granted a vast majority of stories really kinda boil down to being stories about humanity and how people respond to the world around them. But I think that gets a bit pedantic, and I can definitely see what you mean. It is a certainly a very human story with a strong focus on character. Even the novellas - diving into the mind of various characters like the psychopath guy and all that.
Very interesting.
I still definitely was driven by “I need to know more about the protomolecule mystery and the mystery of those who created it.” when I read and watched it. ||
Book 4 was one of my favorites because of the worldbuilding and scientific aspects which were basically glossed over on TV for budgetary reasons. When I say I don't expect to like a Stormlight adaptation, The Expanse season 4 is high on my list of reasons why
like the way they did it was perfectly reasonable, perfectly justifiable, but also that doesn't mean I have to like it
...I wasn't saying you did?
I loved both book 4 and season 4
Just got out of Iron Lung and j liked it a lot
You got over your polio?
Maybe I'm in the minority because I haven't seen anyone else with these complaints but Iron Lung ||I kinda hated the cinematography in the end. Like it was so dark, the camera kept moving, and the shots were so close, I could barely tell what was going on. Like kinda the whole part where the sub is flooding and the tendrils are growing on him||
As spoiler free as you can answer, does it expand on the game or keep things more of less as unexplained as they were before?
I don't know the game so I can't speak to that
I haven't played the game but watched playthroughs
And I'd say the latter
There is some expansion of the protag but not too much of the lore
Ah boo, iron lung felt like an interesting premise without much substance, I was hoping the movie would expand on it in an interesting way
Felt like that was for
- The crazy vibes
- To make sure the practical effects don't look too wonky
It's overlong for sure
Which feels like a deliberate choice to emulate the game
But I think it makes for a worse movie
The pace accelerates
First hour was so eventless I almost genuinely fell asleep
Iron lung ||not super interested in watching markiplier go oooo spooky at 5 or 6 inexplicable things and then a monster eats him||
Pretty sure I dozed off a couple times
I think it's not as bad
In fact the atmosphere is very strong I'd say
I am being overly reductive because I still might watch it just because movies do have more to offer than just that but kinda wished they'd used the game as a prologue to do more
I didn't find much to complain about with the cinematography
Yeah no it's a very faithful adaptation with some added character backstory
Even that is light
The ending rocks though
I think he can easily do a sequel
Especially given how much tickets seem to be flying off
Finished Wonder Man
That was really good!
Definitely some of the best TV content the MCU has produced so far this decade
Which I know isn’t saying a lot
Wonder Man all ||The ending scene with Simon breaking Trevor out of prison was
, and Yahya and Ben Kingsley just give great performances, I live for their bromance||
If you’re going in expecting something action packed this definitely isn’t for you, it’s more of a pure character drama which I absolutely love
I watched markiplier's iron lung playthrough for completion sake, that wasn't really what I was expecting. Honestly made the movie better, because the movie added a bunch of stuff that made it scarier and more interesting
Like 7/10 I think. It's not utterly phenomenal but it's a fun time
I suspect markplier fans will enjoy it just for him, because his performance is pretty good
Avatar 1,2,3 ||I hate how Netayam died man. He was such a good character. Handsome too.||
OG or del Toro's?
del toro
Seeing Marty supreme tonight with my gf
I know... very little about it but it looks fun 😅
Im interested to see what you say
I found myself quietly chuckling a lot but it seemed like no one else was laughing when I saw it 😂
Me when Memories of Murder
Seated for marty supreme
We ended up leaving a bit early because it was just a lot more than we were in the mood for at the moment. I'll maybe finish it some other time, I did think it was good
Avatar 3 ||I was disappointed in how they returned Toruk. I thought its return would've been much more epic, but there was only this one short scene of people acknowledging it. Its action scenes were great though. I wonder if it would've been better if Toruk returned in Avatar 4 like it was originally planned to be.||
Finished the latest season of Slow Horses
This show is so damn good
God bless Gary Oldman
I would say HP All
||A) I don't think this makes Harry Racist.
B) Yes this might make James look racist but that line was crossed with magical racism anyways. The story is about him becoming from a bad person with faults to grow up and mature out while Snape keeping grudges of old and just becoming worse due to the crowd he kept with him.||
Hp all ||Sorry but one of the only black men on the cast being singled out for nothing obvious. Especially with all the nazi undertones of the dark wizards and everything is just so many layers of deep racism||
||Its not the specific relationship between Snape and Harry or Snape and James||
||Its the thing as a whole and the deep parts of the story that weren't as obviously bad when we were kids but that dont stand up to much scrutiny when look at through a more adult and complete lens||
HP ||race swapping as a whole can be fine but having a black man join the wizard kkk because a white girl didn’t like him strikes me as being in bad taste||
||also, my friends who consider themselves HP fans dislike it because they use such a strong view of what Snape looks like in their head||
Another example of race swapping I’m still lowkey mad about is white Heathcliff and brown Edgar in the Wuthering Heights movie
||the hp stuff is really weird bc it always justified in a “these characters could be any race! We never said!” Tone and its like, you had multiple opportunities in the book to say and you didnt||
||making hermione or snape black just seems so pointless and in bad taste||
||Nah, she did say||
Just finished Wonder Man. It was amazing ||Trevor taking the fall for the explosion by becoming the Mandarin again was so cool and sad. And I am so happy that Simon rescued at the end.||
||it’s just retconning for the veneer of progressiveness||
Dumbledore was always gay kinda vibes
When at 0 points in the books did she put in anything that suggested as much
Id have more respect if she just wrote gay characters in new stuff instead of being like, uh, dumbledore is gay! When no he wasnt. I read those books and it is not in there.
Wonder Man all ||Simon’s mom is literally the sweetest person ever||
Oh yeah ||That scene with her and Trevor in the kitchen 😭.|| Hit me in the feels. ||Also glad that Eric came around. We don’t need him to go all Grim Reaper||
I would say that this is the most consistently amazing series I’ve seen from Marvel. There are others that are also fantastic, but they all have at least one thing that pulls them down from being truly great.
Cough Flag Smashers Cough
Now I am asking when the Great Lakes Avengers is coming out. We got 2 members. We just need Flatman, Big Bertha, um any one else I’m forgetting. And of course, Squirrel Girl.
Doorman was on the West Coast Avengers? If so that would probably would make more sense to do, but them doing the GLA would be so funny.
Yeah West Coast is more B listers, GLA is like D list.
you know i think for my comic collecting right now im going to focus on the current run of the ultimate marvel stuff and the absolute dc stuff
God I hope we get a team up
Good choice, both universes been pretty solid
im just looking and the ultimate marvel stuff is ending ?
Have them all fight Doom or Galactus or something.
It is, yeah
Sort of. There was a crossover called Ultimate Spider-Man Incursion where Miles Morales ends up in the Ultimate Universe. Without getting too deep into spoilers, the end of that crossover sets up a plot point for the main universe that’s getting follow-up in Armageddon, this summer’s big event
But it seems at this point like the actual Ultimate Universe storyline is ending for real
thats fine
for once having a complete comic thing is possible
theres a reason why i collected all of the mainline invinicble comics
I have a bone to pick with that show
I left a comment on a YouTube short that sums it up
Slow horses all ||As much as I like this show, literally no character has any character development. River from s1 and s5 is the same person, if not worse, seeing as his issues with his dad seem to make him even less effective in the field. As is Ho, as is Lamb.
They don’t grow and get better, they don’t become better friends and treat each other better. That paint can debacle should’ve been in s1 not s5. Very hard to root for people when they’re endlessly incompetent and treat each other like crap. The only person remotely capable was Shirley and even she gets one upped constantly and roasted by her coworkers.||
That’s all valid tbh
AKOTSK ep3 ||I liked the use of the camera at the end to suddenly widen the distance between Dunk and Egg||
||I was expecting Egg to get revealed this season but also very curious to see how he ends up staying squire to Dunk||
||How his family ends up allowing such a thing anyway||
||If they dont just run away some how
||
Yeah I loved it a lot.
WM Ep3 || her convo with Trevor about Simon made me tear up. ||
Apparently controversial Star Trek opinion
I do not care for McCoy and do not get why he gets nearly as much attention as Kirk or Spock
Which is the other one?
Ah right
finished Wonder Man last night, really enjoyed it (and maybe I like the smaller, Spotlight sort of stories that focus on a person instead of universe-shattering consequences?) WM general ||it did feel a little like they were writing about writing/the creative process, but the Simon/Trevor partnership really shined. Ben Kingsley seemed like he was having fun||
Becuase he serves as the conterpart to spocks straight man whe Kirk is away.
While repeatedly insulting and berating Spock in a manner that is frequently scifi-racist
Just gonna watch a light movie over lunch. Who’s the director? Oh, some guy named David Lynch
Wonder Man all ||I do hope that we see Xialing and the 10 Rings again because surely they aren't happy with Trevor using their name/logos again. On one hand, great cover but otoh... there was a reason they kidnapped him from jail in the first place lol||
https://youtu.be/YwMsGYvRqwo?si=klaPj6YO_VPAdDyT
(warning: much language)
Finally remembered my YouTube password...
"Looney Toons Al Queda"
oh god my sides
I love how they're still just. In the HELM from Destiny.
Tom Christie is an artist
This is art
Likely more artistic than the actual He-Man movie
Bro grabbed so much footage from every angle he can fuel it as a backdrop forever, even though it flat out doesn’t exist anymore
https://x.com/DiscussingFilm/status/1664780616380948480?sort_replies=recency its been 4 years since Beyodn the spiderverse what did yall guys think of it
‘BEYOND THE SPIDER-VERSE’ is currently set to release on March 29, 2024 in theaters.
Read our ‘Across The Spider-Verse’ review: https://t.co/r5l3tvs65a
so forgettable its like it never released
the person i stole this joke from said 4 years ago
they are living in 2028
i didnt even realize 😭
IIRC the word on the street was pretty clear that the date was nonsense around the time the second movie was in theaters, but I guess they waited for the theatrical run to be over before confirming it
I guess Sony had been under the impresion that the third part was further along than it was when they decided to 'split the movie'
Kris tell me how Man of Tomorrow was
How was the DCU Wonder Woman
Who did they cast
Grant gustin
Whos also secretly the flash because the DCU is now in the arrowverse continuity
Ok I’ve been disappointed by a lot in Nolan’s odyssey movie but Lupita Nyongo as Helen is INSPIRED
She really is one of the most beautiful women in the whole entire world
Jared Leto
Oh good, glad to have a fourth movie in the morbius series
After morbius 2099 and morbius of the universe
Just binged all of season 1 of infinity train
Good show
Still mad at WB for burying it
and cancelling it
Is morbius squad not real
Thank gods
im watching the new dunk and egg GOT spinoff show even though i havent seen GOT, its good solid show
Its really good so far, glad its going to be yearly
im curious to see if they will in fact go past 3 seasons, and how quickly George gets mad at them 😂
(if you dont know, the series is based on a series of 3 novellas but GRRM supposedly has an idea on 10 more)
have you seen episode 3? @minor ledge
not yet
I doubt George cares anymore
Afaik GRRM LOVES Dunk and Egg
Didn’t George go over the outline of the future novellas with the show runner to avoid a HoTD situation
hes handed over some stuff apparently
i need to watch the first 4 seasons of got eventually
I’ll be honest I think grrm is far more likely to pound out a book to keep ahead for dunk than for anything else it sounds like those are the books he actually enjoys writing
GOT reboot so he actually finishes winds of winter
It's nice to have a smaller stakes Westeros story that has a sense of humor too
(I haven't seen ep 3 yet)
I’d be shocked if we don’t get she wolves and village hero relatively soon tbh ( like 5-8 years)
man who famously didnt do this
Yeah but it’s different here
Much shorter books in a series he likes more after he saw how bad not doing it turned out
Is each season one novella? I read the Dunk and Egg books a while ago and I feel like all 3 would fill one season
Season 1 is 30 mins episodes and its 6 or 7 in total
I also expect they will expand every book grrm knows more about the politics of this era so small things will be expanded
Dunk and Egg + KOTSK ||they already have, the Blackfyre Rebellion wasn't a thing when he wrote the first novella||
The first season is only gonna be a bit over 3 hours long. You could probably cover the content pretty easily in 10 hour-long episodes, sure
The 'HOTD situation' wasn't about the showrunner not having access to books, it was about George being upset by changes the TV series made that George disagreed with. Furthermore, what George called disrespectful behavior by Condal in lying to him to end an argument, and the showrunner ending direct communication with George over the disagreement. So, if they want to avoid that, the play would be to do things the way George wants, or actually convince him? But like, George isn't going to be upset by them adapting books that George obviously isn't going to write, he gave them the outlines for a reason
part of what bothered GRRM is that, at least at first, he thought HOTD could have been a sort of canonical version of what actually happened in this story, as opposed to just the 'unreliable narrator' histories from his book
When I said hotd situation I meant a falling out with the show runner, should’ve made that clearer
But I agree with what you said
basically as long as the showrunner remains collaborative with George, he'll be happy
even with Game of Thrones, it was George's decision to step away when they passed the books, if he doesn't like what happened there, he at least accepts responsibility for it in part
More importantly theres no content i csn think of in the novellas that could result in a similar argument like I get ||Grrm wanted a child to be ripped apart but that was never going to be allowed by the studio execs ||Fire and Blood
I feel like that could be a movie
it would end up being a 4 hour long movie and the pacing would suffer (imo)
I loved the Dark Phoenix movie when I watched it in theaters
I think it'd absolutely be doable but it's not really what HBO likes to do
I think it could have been 3 episodes instead of 6 but HBO wanted to have more than a months worth
What was that fallout finale
First look at Woody Harrelson as Kevin Feige in 'KEVIN', the Kevin Feige biopic.
Only in theaters May 4, 2028.
(Source: https://t.co/D3yNpeFkUa)
a kevin feige biopic??
Saw Iron Lung early today. Utterly fantastic.
… I can’t tell if you posted this knowing it’s satire or not lol
oh did i et fished lmao
Lol at first I was like "huh...?" Until I saw the account name is not "DiscussingFilm"
Now that I have seen the 3 episodes and have been watching BookBorn's video about the books for those episodes.
I gotta say that I like how the show actually does it with fleshing out the characters enough to make us connect to them and also having each episode have a satisfying end and an actual narrative going.
Ep1 ||It was the Introduction episode, made to connect to Dunk most of all, introduce Egg and the setting of Ashford Meadows||
2 || the second was all about the legacy of Ser Arlen and the relationship he had with Dunk. What it means to make a name of themselves. It also raises the stake in how much Dunk could lose with this tourney and how he would be left with nothing by the end. ||
3 || this one was about Egg's identity and the discontent of both him and the people with the Targaryen household. ||
TO THE PATRONS OF THIS THEATER, I APOLOGIZE FOR INTERRUPTING YOUR SCREENING OF INLAND EMPIRE BUT I DO NEED YOUR HELP WITH SOMETHING. Time to watch Wonder Man!
Oh I NEED these https://x.com/DCFilmNews/status/2018922947809771791?s=20
Wonder Man ep 1 ||Simon is so funny 😭||
||I love his passion, and even if what hes doing on set is like unironically annoying, I genuinely feel bad for him 😭||
||also his ex is an opp what the heck||
Also if I get one more ad to go to Disney world im gonna rip my mounted tv off the wall 🥰
today is muppet show day :D

FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Its gonna be so peak this time trust (if its not im blowing up)
ahahahahahahahaha
I wonder if he'll be more involved than Brandon
@keen flax which are you more excited for cosmere or inheritance
Hm. So because of the- inheritance and its not even close 🤣
Im excited about the mistborn show dont get me wrong, but ive been a fan of the IC for a decade and have craved a proper adaptation of the show for years 😂
But anyway, with how Mr Chris had hardly any involvement in the movie, hes been talking about writing scripts fkr months and months so hes DEEPLY involved in the adapting process
So yes I am very ultra hypet excited and its gonna go great 😌
Wow the cgi here has not aged good
God she looks so weird 😭
That’s obviously super low ranking on list of issues with the movie
But she sure is wonky
I hope the new cgi adds more spikes to her, shes canonically really spiky 😂
I was gonna say, not much has aged well about that movie
Bro if we enter 2027 with Eragon TV show and Beyond the Spidervers....... yall wont hear the end of it from me
There is an art that I was in so much awe that I cried for(lemme see if I can find it). And also I remember when I finished Inheritance in like 9th grade, I felt so... depressed because I loved it so much. I think I cried.
yeah it's this
(by Ciruelo)
Well he's adding to the world so theres more to read if you want to visit Alagaesia again! 🥰
There’s a lot of great inheritance art
The eragon book with the pictures has incredible stuff, its all so well done
But honeslty im so impressed that he managed to pull through with this and I HOPE it goes well. I know being better than the movie isnt a high bar but I just want more people to get exposed to the fun series that made me love to read again 🥰
Would've been crazy if it was apple tv also
And man of tomorrow/Batman II!!
I think
I think I saw somewhere that they were looking for it to be the next game of thrones. Because of course they were.
What if it’s worse
Ah beans. He said at the book signing that he wanted it to be like... an in between of PJO and GOT? Which admittedly is a very tough thing to balance
...well there's probably a lot of room in between those two
Joking aside, I suppose I maybe see what he's going for? Something with scope and epicness and maybe mass appeal like GoT but maybe with some of the lightness of PJO?
hmm. I'm trying to think of a scene that I would be excited for
Eragon may be the series I have reread the most and don’t own
I'd love to see [Eragon series all] ||the evil dragon... shurikan? on screen. From memory, they were like... the size of the villain's palace? That scale would be awesome to see realised||
I always imagined sunlight reflecting off of the dragons beautifully, and it would great to see that.
I hope they still keep John Malkovich as Galbatorix
I never watched the movie
I don't remember any of the movie
But I know Brom was great
What if Eragon and mistborn release the same year
I remember a friend told me it was really bad so I never bothered watching it
That movie is 20 years old this year
Or in other terms: Top Gun came out 20 years before that
Id explode into confetti
Also mistborns gonna be a trilogy of movies most likley
Ohhh you were talking about eragon
I thought it was gonna be a movie
Yeah it was bad
Pjo is solid so im good with that and eragon is kinda a simular vibe imo
Not as young of a target audience tho
I think ive watched the eragon movie at least 10+ in spanish never mind english
Ive seen it once
Yet still better than a lot of CGI these days
I don’t remember if I saw it in theaters in not or like TNT/Blockbuster
My view on Eragon as a series dropped so much with my reread that I very well may think the show is great
Especially with there still being some book 1 nostalgia remaining
Yeahhhhh thats fair. I couldn't read through the series last year but murtagh was excellent
Eragon ||I didnt finish the movie so I have no clue if they adapt the battle of Farthen Dur.... man that'll be so GAS 😭||
i find that intresting becuase my perspective keeps on raising with rereads
I made the mistake of reading it during MB so it kinda made the... storytelling a bit rough? Now that the rose colored glasses broke i think i can reread it again with less stopping
But it will forever stay at the top of my shelf 🥰
So prepare for me to be more annoying about this as time goes on
I am pretty down on fantasy adaptations becoming good television so I just try to have fun with them
Yes :3 this show could be straight slop and you wouldn't be able to tell from me 🥴
book acccrate in that case
Well... okay, the book has its fair share of issues but I wouldn't call it slop.... considering im Hella excited for this 😅
I just think that a lot of these studios are run by people who don’t actually learn what makes things work. Like they all chased thrones without understanding what made it work as a TV show. They all chased streaming without realizing that their library isn’t good enough to justify the price.
I'm no Eragon Enjoyer and slop feels like a pretty significant overstatement
Counterpoint: eragon the movie was slop
I think its mid, but slop implies a level of carelessness and trendchasing that I'm not sure you can accuse Eragon of
I mean Kris was very specifically calling the books slop
Eragon feels to me like a debut novel
Cuz it is
It's raw, kinda unpolished, and clearly a work of passion
And it was written by like a 14 y/o it’s not gonna be Shakespeare
I have my issues with the story but like for a 14 year old debut novel it's pretty good all things considered
He was less subtle about his inspirations than maybe he thought he was
Which like yup sounds like a teenager
I was like 12 or 13 at the time and I cottoned on to the Star Wars connections well before it became an internet meme
I was like 8-9 I want to say when I got the book so it just went right over my head lol
I don't remember reading it but I do remember having a lore debate with a high schooler regarding it (I was in 5th grade)
and I was right
Look he was just a teen who wanted to make his LoTR x Star Wars crossover a reality and I respect that 😂
And the fact that hes able to revive an adaptation after who knows how long is impressive too
But yeah no eragon is messy and a Lil fanficy but its my shalya and im hyped and that hype wont die 🥰
i agree but i wanted to make a kinda witty comment
I saw more news about the Eragon adaptation. It’s still ALIVE! YESSS!
Noice! Im very excited
Eragon + movie ||no weird mummy bug ra'zac please||

Dang Lego is getting my money here.

Avatar (Blue people) is very DUNE-ish, isn't it?
Its fern gully + Pocahontas if it was on another planet with blue aliens basicly
I wouldn't say its very dune ish
Dune + Avatar ||So you've got two groups of colonists (Harkonen/Atreides, RDA/Scientists) come to a new planet for rare, nigh-magical resources. The good colonists want to work with the natives, the bad colonist want to wipe them out. The natives are supernaturally paired with their environment, and our protagonist learns their ways. The mentor dies to the bad colonists. The protagonist rides a great beast to make himself a warrior, before becoming the natives' leader and driving away the bad colonists. ||
||They both kinda have the white savior thing going on but it really doesn't engage with any of the themes of dune||
||Avatar is the kind of sci fi story Dune is criticising||
Same ||Lawrence of Arabia I suspect||
yeah true thinking more about it
agreed
okay but what if paul is the good guy tho jebus
Lisan Al-Gaib!
The....tongue of the pocket?
“Voice from the Outer World” or “Voice of the Unseen”
"Tongue" can also translate to "voice", though I don't know how you got "pocket". It translates roughly to "Voice of the Unseen", "Voice of the Outsider", or "Voice From the Outer World".

ooooh it's لسان الغيب not لسان الجيب
huh, I wonder if it should have been Lisan Al-Ghaib instead, oh well
Unlike HBO’s The Last Of Us, which retold the story from the PlayStation games, the Baldur’s Gate TV series will be a continuation to the games, telling a story that takes place immediately after the events of Baldur’s Gate 3, as the characters — old and new — are dealing with the ramifications of the events in the third game.
Bauldrs gate 3 2: Return of the Bauldr 🥴
-# mini tangent but is Return of The King even the second movie in the series? I have no idea
RotK is the third book/movie
Oh right, cause of the two towers 😂
Okay gotcha
Yes yes something something greatest movies ever I know 😔
I'll either watch then with dad or bf, idk 🤔
and undertale
and reread Eragon
And Gandalf the Grey
and my axe
Oh I guess I should go back and finish Baldur's Gate huh. My husband's and I were co-opping but hadn't finished act I whoops
Ngl I have like, zero hope for this
Larian, the creators of Baldur’s Gate 3, tell me they have no involvement in the series.
Cosmic pls watch them
And, I can … DJ
And Gandalf the White
And Monty Python and the Holy Grail's Black Knight
I wonder which ending they'll continue from
BG3 All ||Probably one where every main character gets a "happy" ending. Astarion as a normal vampire, Gale as a professor(not a God), and so on.||
BG3 All ||Yeah they would have too. there is quite literally no other ending to build off of||
Don’t give in
Doctor Who season 6 ||Man, there are so many places where the sonic screwdriver and the psychic paper would be useful haha||
Folks I just made a search in this channel and somehow nobody has ever mentioned “Homestuck made this world” here, how can this be? This analysis (for people who don’t know Homestuck as well as those who do) is extremely this-fandom-coded imo
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh color at last
Lowkey hyped for bg3 hbo series
I really hope they make durge the main character
I would rather have a straight adaptation or direct continuation than a spin off
https://deadline.com/2026/02/isabela-merced-house-of-the-dead-film-adaptation-last-of-us-1236711085/
Glad Isabela Merced is getting work
But why does it have to be with the Resident Evil director
Those movies were not good
I didn't know. 😵💫 I'm sorry for my presumption.
Give that man some money
glad he's on a gothic kick right now
Crimson Peak was fun but it took him a while to return to that kind of thing with Frankenstein
He kinda cooking
Give us more Oscar Isaac pls 🥺

No but that idea actually cooked
The Last Jedi ||after the last jedi, i thought poe was really hot and wanted rey to end up with him||
||he is probably hot but the movie was so bad i couldnt get over that||
Yes! 2 things can be true at once 😌
||Liar, you wanted to end up with him||
Thats my dalinar
||you could really see when Oscar Isaac stopped caring about the franchise lmao||
John Woo's 1986-1992 might be the greatest thing if all timr
Poe Dameron and Finn I mourn the gay couple you could have become…
I bet you the original print of Absolute Batman #1 is gonna be crazy valuable in like 30 years
generally
more printings = lower value
Really?
I thought that more reprintings = less of the original printings = the original printings being valuable
So is that printings of the individual issues or the collected volumes?
The absolute universe is popping
Are there any volumes of absolute universe yet?
Martian Manhunter is SO GOOD
they already printed a crap ton of issue 1 printing 1
I think it will be decently expensive in good condition but the fact that modern collectors exists means your not gonna see those insane highs you do for retro stuff today
Love that little guy
Why doesn’t he hunt more men :(
Because he is too busy tripping balls in every panel
Read the comics. Men get hunted.
Absolute MM is more about hunting other evil psychic entities that are driving people insane than anything

It came to me in a vision.
moonknight was so good
Agreed
Also, I know almost nothing about Iron Lung but I really want to see it now.
Word of mouth and a tiny synopsis has me more hyped to see that movie than every recent Marvel trailer has had me hyped for Doomsday.
Come to think of it, I haven't even seen any Iron Lung trailers.
AKOTSK E4 ||I didn’t expect to love Daeron but I really do, the actor who plays him does such a great job||
KOTSK 4 + Hedge knight ||I liked his role in the book, glad they captured it well in the show||
AKOTSK + novellas ||I don’t remember if he has much more than this, but I hope future stories give him more, the actor is so good and Daeron is so tragic||
Playing the game is shorter/less effort than the movie, as usual we recommend to see the source material first
The game (and markiplier original video game YouTube video) is only 40 minutes too
As my brother pointed out, this is especially funny because in Moon Knight, ||there is actually a love triangle involving Moon Knight stealing Moon Knight’s girl||
Everybody wants this.

hmmm
My mother and sister are so hyped for that, and I am too tbh 😂
Though I haven't seen the original all the way through yet
Cosmic, pls
In my defense I've seen 85% of tbis one! Every time I enter the room my family is already 15ish minutes in 😭
. That's happened to me so many times, which is why there are so many movies I can say I've "kind of" seen.
Like, I don't think I ever saw Pacific Rim in its entirety, even though I've kind of seen it multiple times. I was always walking in on someone else watching it so I don't know how much of the beginning I missed.
New McElroy unfathomable noises just dropped: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/pGORSEjUwIY
Griffin being mad that that joke landed as well as it did is the best part of it lmao
The delay of "that's such a stupid pun that doesn't make sense" to the instant realization of why it was actually relevant at the first "waow" repeat is just
Hong Kong gun-fu is so full of life unlike some of the Hollywood action crap I used to get on my TV
Y'all got any genuinely good action films with style and heart?
Can be from anywhere
I'm already missing John Woo's heroic bloodshed era so bad
Everything Everywhere All At Once
Oh yeah need to get to that
Anything more gun focused?
Something like John Wick would do
It's not the heartiest but I think it's got enough style
I just don't wanna be generic "stoic" cishet white guy slop
(Something I think John Wick rises above most of the time)
But my primary benchmark is 86-92 John Woo
The Matrix?
The Matrix general ||Both of the directors came out as trans some number of years later and it turns out the general concept works pretty well as a metaphor for being trans, so I don't think it counts as cishet||
I mentioned stoic cishet white guy stuff as more of a vibe than requirement but ig that works
Hard Boiled has become one of my fav movies of all time
Is it worth it to get the 4k version of the upcoming Arrow limited edition over the blu-ray?
I mean it's only £5 more so that's not the issue but the cost of 4k equipment is
For blu-ray I can just plug a player to my laptop
Aren't 4k players ungodly expensive?
TIL there are actual reasons to have a dedicated 4k blu-ray player rather than something like a PS5
Not that they’re reasons I really care about myself
4K Blu-Ray players are much more compact than a PS5, and honestly have better image. I don’t want a PS5, yet, so I just have the player
How much was it?
Uh… I think I paid $180 for it a couple years ago
Not sure what it’s at now
It’s a Panasonic UB-420
Are they directly pluggable into a computer/laptop with a USB?
No, you’re looking for a 4K drive and you’ll have to get software to actually play the drive on top of that which isn’t free
I like this decision tbh, makes it a proper Halloween movie https://x.com/DiscussingFilm/status/2019918942840439162?s=20
That's a question that has a different answer for each person. It's worth it for me, but if you can't tell the difference between streamed 4K and disc 4K then you probably shouldn't care as much.
I'm just asking monetarily as a student
If you’re trying to watch on a laptop screen probably not
Oh definitely not
Yeah I don’t really watch physical media myself but I think I can still confidently say there’s no chance it is worth it when you are on student money.
Maybe unless you’re a film student or you’re super huge on film and picture quality. But again definitely not if you’re aiming to watch on a laptop screen
Not a film student just moved on from collecting books to films
Am I dead wrong? I feel like you would need a good TV to even make proper use of a good 4K blu-ray player
I've got a gaming laptop that boasted of its screen value and a second monitor that I bought second hand and is old enough to use hdmi and vga instead of displayport and hdmi, and the latter is the better display by far, on just about wvery level
I mean my M1 Pro MacBook Pro has a pretty nice display but I still feel like with its size you’d get some real diminishing returns out of a 4k blu-ray player. But maybe I just don’t know what I’m talking about since everything I watch these days is via streaming.
I feel like I’d rather watch on my desktop monitor too though. Just due to size. And I watch stuff on my laptop all the time out of sheer convenience
Maybe I’ll see if I can get a 4k copy of arrival or spiderverse and bring my PS5 back down to my place at some point so I can test out a comparison of the picture quality to see if I even notice a difference
I’d recommend looking for good deals right now that include both the 4k and standard Blu-Ray discs
Then you can watch the normal Blu-Rays now but when you can afford to get the 4K stuff you can do that
There’s often great deals on Blu-Rays where you can get them for under $10

Sasha was amazing here
She was the best part of that movie
For sure
I want to see her back for the DCU
Maybe as Power Girl perhaps?
WAIT
WAIT
WAIT
GIVE ME A SEC
LET ME COOK
Walk with me
mommy
I think she's too old for the role (she's 30)
I always remember that scene where the sunlight made her revert to her normal body fat percentage lol
Yeah the actor who plays Vin is probably like, 14 at most right now. Even if they decide to cast an 18-year-old as her, it's gonna take a while for production wheels to spin up enough to start that process.
See I thought you were gonna go Cassandra
But Cassandra would probably be a teen if they pulled her in
Fallout season 2 was eh
I feel like the plot really stagnated and the character arcs were muddled
I binged to E4 when that was the most recent episode but didn't feel motivated to keep up week to week afterwards
Its like, fine
Which 4k blu-ray do I buy to see if I can tell the difference between the disc and streamed movie?
8
12
2
Into the Spider-Verse
yeah
s1 was so much better
s2 was hard carried by walton goggins tbh
(Even then i dont think s1 was great just alright)
tbh Fallout s2 ||Im not a big fan of NV but jesus christ the legion ending in the finale||
the effects were cool though
so
really good looking show
bc im worse than a nv purist im a fo1 purist (not a 2 purist god no dont associate me with those people) a 1 purist
MB 1||Rise and Fall of Sanctuary Moon is just as hilarious as expected.||
MB 2 ||Oh my Gurathin try to swivel a non-swivel chair. This guy||
||He is so weird||
I don’t think MB is a good abbreviation when Mistborn exists
🔪 🤖
Hey, for now murderbot gets to be the only MB on Apple TV lol
Time to see Mark’s completely normal adventure in a tub of ferrous metal

BABY KRYPTO
Done with Iron Lung
Very good movie, highly recommend. Hard to find a really exceptionally good Cosmic Horror film
Favorite part is when (joke with surface information of Iron Lung) ||Mark announces to everyone on the comms, “Hello everybody, my names Markiplier and today we are exploring this blood ocean moon!”
And then he Bite of 87’ed all over the place

I really really really hate these AI ads
My fav moment was when ||Simon stands in the rapidly rapturing sub, covered in blood and alien flora digging through his skin, torn limbs exposed and as the monster's teeth sink down on the sub and he says, "Break me off a piece of that kitkat bar!"||
If you aren't familiar with Project Hail Mary DO NOT WATCH THIS AD
GO IN AS BLIND AS POSSIBLE
Just trust that PHM is real good
