did shang chi even show up in anything outside of his own movie?
The next time we see him will be in Doomsday lol
no lol
Maybe I'm optimistic, but the few people who were going to go to the cinema to see those movies were the same ones who confirmed that they were bad movies or more of the same
And looking at it from a business perspective, the people who liked it represent 1%, so I prefer to make something that 99% will like
You can't make everyone happy
For Marvel's sake, I definitely hope the difference in people who liked and disliked them isn't quite as dramatic
But, I see what you mean
Which is weird because it was a pretty good success for when it released
esp for right after covid
I certainly liked most of Shang-Chi. I wasn't very fond of the ending. Ending spoilers ||I felt like the whole "Dweller in Darkness" and huge climactic battle against hordes of CGI monsters was kind of a letdown, especially since the emotional core of the story was the parent-child conflict. I think it would have been a better ending to center the climax on the conflict between Shang-Chi, Xialing, and Wenwu. Lukewarm take, I know. Plus the CGI slugfest thing is kind of overdone and tired out.||
Doomsday is not ignoring everything after Endgame lol. A Quick Look at the cast list confirms that. Not sure where that idea even came from
Memoirs of a Geisha like an hour ish in ||I hope hatsumono goes bald by the end of this movie. She has been an opp the entire time||
I don't think the movie will, of course, but the first Captain America trailer they released definitely gave that vibe. The Thor trailer, less so, because it very clearly follows after Love and Thunder. I haven't seen today's trailer yet, but it looks like it follows up Wakanda Forever. So it's not so much a "movie ignores post-Endgame" as "vibe ignores post-Endgame", I think?
Shang Chi's shown up in What If and I think the Marvel Zombies show but I haven't watched that yet
That movie was really good
I don't think it quite tops the first Cinderella/Prince encounter in Ever After, but it doesn't need to. It's just really sweet.
I don't think 'ignoring' is the right term at all, but I also don't expect it to deeply reflect anything after Endgame either, if that makes sense? It'll bring forward characters from those movies and series, but I really don't expect them to matter too much for the most part
and I honestly think that's just fine
but, like, all the signals from Marvel Studios is 'if you haven't watched our recent movies, don't worry, you can still watch this'
I mean it kinda is ignoring tho
|| Chris Evan's whole character arc, and new Avengers and etc are proven to not work and hence they are returning back the new cast and stuff to generate hype ||
when people say 'ignoring' in contexts like this, they often mean things like 'this is a sequel to Terminator 2, no other Terminator movies exist in the world of this new movie' or something like that
I think I'd describe it as being more 'brushed aside' or something?
'yeah, other things happened, but they don't matter too much, don't worry about it'
brushed aside is a more apt way yea
yes!
they're dangling shiny keys without regard to how theyd previously given those keys a satisfying conclusion
which, to be fair to them, maybe they actually plan on doing something interesting with those keys
but they havent done anything to build up to it so it feels reactionary
|| a final homage or fanservice or w/e before universe reset || doomsday/secret wars
I'm reluctant to ever use the word 'final' when talking about anything comics-relateed
Those new Avengers are literally in the movie though?
||The new avengers are the like second most loved part of post endgame MCU???||
š
||A final homage before a writer looks at audience retention graphs and goes "but what if we had Ironman and The Hulk duke it out in New York again?"||
In spite of that, I really like this movie! I can see why my mom likes it so much
I like it too!
I do have one gripe and its (Memiors of a Geshia) ||I wish it was fully in Japanese like Shogun. I understand it was 2005 but it would have elevated it imo. Othet than that, the cinematography, the acting, the score, the drama, all of it was
||
||hatsumono and pumpkin (WHO WAS MY FAVORITE RIGHT UNTIL THE END WHEN SHE TURNED ON MY GIRL) can go kick rocks, and Michelle yeoh was a star||
||Michelle Yeoh was the goat||

I need to see it, maybe this week
The movie, not the yt video š
But the yt video will come after!
There's something kinda Jeb Bush about it
Hunchback is like a madlad of Disney movies
The musical is genius
(The musical also pissed Disney off enough they wouldnāt give it the Broadway transfer)
I watched this movie for the first time a couple weeks ago and this song is indeed š„ fire š„
oh this is the Avatar music guy
My favorite actress

You want my hot take? The Hunchback musical is just as bad/confusing tonally as the animated film, just in the opposite direction.
I sawwww! Great video.
I read the last message in this channel and was about to go āfunnily enoughā and then scrolled up and of course people were going to mention Sideways returning.
I honestly think making frollo sympathetic at the start works much better
The production cycle of these videos are very interesting. Obviously this is his first in a while, but he posted an early version of this on his patreon a couple months ago and there are a lot of differences
Fascinating
I think Frollo is both more interesting and more human
(And scarier)
I just donāt like the recent spate of sympathetic villains
Frollo in the musical is not sympathetic
Ah
I need to watch the musical again, itās been forever
I think Bells of Notre Dame in the musical vs. the movie ||establishes Frollo as this very human character with very real failings. Are there reasons he is the way he is? Yes. But he is terrible.
The movie presents him as mustache twirling. He is evil but he is not human. He is a caricature you are meant to hate.
And musical Frollo is human and you hate him for how real he is. How often people like him do exist irl||
I think heās sympathetic enough to be human, we are meant to both empathize with/ pity him and condemn him
||In the movie he is directly delusional||
The musical also complicates things by ||making him a priest and all of his āreligiousā choices are from his extreme fervent faith and not his assumption of his own power||
Hunchback is the one Disney movie that would actually really benefit from a live action adaptation
If only they would do the musical version LOL
Hunchback is my 2nd fav musical so I adore it
Parents would get mad at their kids getting traumatized tho sigh
Itās soo good! Not my fav but definitely up there
For those unfamiliar

Step inside the recording studio with Alan Menken, Stephen Schwartz, Peter Parnell and the Studio Cast. The album is available digitally via iTunes at http://iTunes.com/Hunchback.
The American Premiere recording of The Hunchback of Notre Dame is the first ever of the acclaimed American stage score based on the Academy Award-nominated 1996 film...
They take the original music and tweak it a lot to fit the vibe of the new version of the story and show
In the movie, itās ||blurred, because he keeps the clerical robes and hat||
In the movie ||he is a judge in the city. ||
||he uses the church as a cover for his actions||
||But it also deliberately evokes religious imagery with him, implicitly giving him religious authority ||
Iām sure it goes without saying why this change was made from the book
||it definitely feels like they wanted to make commentary but were scared of pissing off the wrong people||
Idk, this was well ||before the major scandals broke||
||he was a priest in the book||
Yeah, Iām just not sure that that was the motivation for the change
Just finished Cronos, and with that, every del Toro film (except Mimic which he apparently has disowned in a way)
How does he do it
How is this his debut
It's so good
Hell I'd say it's as close to a perfect film as I have seen in my albeit very limited experience
I liked it
seeing it after having seen most of his more recent work definitely was an interesting experience
Cronos ||the body horror, interest in father figures, and interest in sympathetic "monsters" being the most obvious ones||
||in the director commentary he said that he set out to make the most pathetic vampire he could thing of, his favorite scene (which I probably agree with) is the bathroom scene ||
I definitely think his later work surpassed it though
I watched it after every single one of his movies (except the aforementioned Mimic) and still adored it
I do still prefer Frankenstein and Crimson Peak over it, mostly because of visuals and vibes but I think this has less flaws
Certainly less than Frankenstein (which I can't help but hold as my no. 1 cause it makes me feel very warm and fuzzy)
Crimson Peak ||apparently Crimson Peak is a bit divisive but I thought it was a really good gothic horror and the production design was incredible ||
also liked Franktenstein quite a bit
Those two are my top 2 del Toro
I think my top 2 would be Pans Labyrinth and Pinocchio
3rd might be Pacific Rim lol
Very based
Frankenstein is straight up my fav movie of all time tbh
Is it flawless? Hell no
Is it the best movie I've ever seen? Probably not either
But
It just feels wrong to call anything else my favourite movie
There's something special about it that doesn't make sense in any tangible way
But in my mind it does
And Crimson Peak comes close to scratching that same itch
I can see that
All I can put out is
Sincerity and contrast are two of the things that make great art to me
And these two have plenty of both
There's a ton of intensity and violence and even gore
But they're also very tender and heartfelt and sincere
I love that
This is also why TWOK is my favourite book
It's huge and grand and the bridge run sections are the grittiest the series gets
I think del Toro would do really interesting stuff with mistborn or stormlight (but I don't think it'd be in directions that Brandon would want lol)
But it also has beautiful atmosphere with Shallan and some amazingly haunting moments at the Shattered Plains
del Toro and Cameron are the only people I would 100% trust with Stormlight
Cameron moreso with Stormlight but I can see del Toro nailing both
yeah I think del Toro is more Era 1 coded
In del Toro's version (Stormlight minor) ||Syladin would immediately be a thing though||
||he'd also LOVE the singers||
Stormlight ||we would definitely get a horrific scene showing one changing forms after being taken over by a Fused||
I'd certainly trust them more with him than Cameron
Although Cameron has a greater chance of keeping them as is while del Toro would like to touch on the sociopolitical aspect + darkeye/lighteye a lot more
Which I'd love
The Chair Company 5 ||the ending of this episode is some of the hardest i've laughed in a long time||
Same
I think Frankenstein is his only work I don't like as much
I think the main difference would be Cameron going more fantastical magical while del Toro would go more horror.
Regardless of if they will change story beats or have more emphasis to some or not
So in that regard, I think Cameron would be a better fit
God when will Pitt s2 end
I want to binge it so bad
Del toro could do some really good stuff with the cosmere tbh
Im eh on cameron but tbh del toro or rian johnson are probably the best picks for stormlight
anyway all the ST discourse has finally settled so i think my official season rankings probably S1. S4,S2,S3,S5
S1 > s2 > s3 > s5 >>>>>>>>>>> s4 personally
i think s1 js the only good season tbh
only like a fifth of 4 is actually good
S1, S4, S2, S5, S3 for me
I like them all, but I liked 3 the least
Still good, though
S1>s4>s3>s2>s5 for me
I didn't hate s5 but I've also not finished it, sooo
Stopping halfway thru the finale takes some points of it
i think s5 and 3 are equally really bad writing wise but 3 has better vibes
S3 definitely gets a lot of points for vibes from me
I don't really have any feelings good or bad on s5
It had some shots I thought were cool and some moments I liked, it had a few things I disliked, it had a lot that I don't really care either way for
3s acting was also way better
I'd have Rian Johnson over for MBE2
||This whole episode is so good. The soup bit and the guy whoās cheating on his wife is so funny||
Are you a fan of GoT s8(?) or a s4 hater?
s4 hater
.
What did s4 do to you xD
have every bit of thing I hate and have character drama and interseting concept progress in the direction I just didn't like and didn't fit the characters
Only good thing from s4 is || Kate Bush and Eleven/Brenner conclusion ||
I don't remember having many gripes with s4
I think ST all ||I retroactively dislike the whole vecna thing a little because I found him very disappointing as a final antagonist in s5||
But tbh I might have different thoughts on s4 if I rewatched it now
|| I like Vecna more in s5 cuz I had time to adjust with him. S4 I just hated it cuz it affected the eldritch horror-y vibe the Upside Down had and made it more fantasy ||
|| I hate the military and was frustrated how stupid conclusions they reached to. ||
||see I'm kinda the opposite. I didn't mind the shift until it got to s5 and I started to feel like the more time we spent with it, the less interesting it was||
|| I hated the Hellfire plotline with the bullies and stuff. Like I hate it in general, but it's already explored multiple times and why continue it ||
||god the military are so annoying. I think I didn't mind them as much in s4 because they felt like they had more of a role compared to s5. That's probably another thing I'd like less rewatching after having seen most of s5 tbh||
I hated it in both
||and hated it even more in s4 cuz they wasted more screen time ||
||I enjoyed the Brenner plotline and so didn't mind the military existing in that, but seeing that it went nowhere at all makes me like it less||
||tbh I'd be interested to see what I think of s4 on rewatch because I do think there's a lot of threads that s5 does disappointingly little with||
|| the characters relations evolved/progressed in a way that I don't find proper given their experiences and events at all ||
|| Eleven's stuff with the bullies and her character conflict and etc might have been needed or w/e, but it just made me frustrated cuz terrible people and all that. Like i can get it it's realistic or w/e but I hate watching those stuff ||
|| Lucas progresses in a direction I just can't fathom working. Max and Lucas too tho I can forgive it a bit given how it ended on and etc. Mike and Will doesn't make sense even more. ||
||I'm ngl I cannot remember enough of what Mike and will do in s4 to comment on that||
Biblical levels of hatred (only a fraction of what I felt for WAT for a good few months)
I think after that I disassociated with the Cosmere too much to feel such strong emotions anymore
I certainly am not going to consider it much better than I did
But neither am I gonna explode at its mention
among the greatest book I have read
that, Imajica and One Hundred Years of Solitude
As in 100YoS is one of the greatest books youāve read? Youāre disagreeing to Kholinstark saying they hated it and saying WAT deserves to be on that list?
||IMO vecna worked really well in like the first quarter of s4 but in the last 3 quarters of 4 and the entiety of 5 he just felt goofy||
well he knows
It's a thing we generally do where he hates it so much that he feels like mentioning it everytime and I love it so much that I reply that to him
||I HATED vecna at start the most ||
Ahhhhh ok
but yes it's in my top 3 books of all time with those other two mentioned
Ok ok
why can't The Pitt finish soon š
wanting to watch it so much but I want to binge s2
PJO S2 keeps on being excellent
Gives me time to catch up!
this is an unofficial account, what's their source on the 2026 release date?
did some searching and it looks like it was originally slated for 2025 though, so a 2026 release seems pretty likely
Oh sweet!
Thatās a good movie
Mister Miracle animated show is confirmed to be DCU canon https://x.com/jamesgunn/status/2011450170337063410?s=46
Which means I should bring in my Mister Miracle fancast
Given that they are doing an animated show (or maybe its a movie?) for him idk if they'll be casting live action anytime soon
IIRC Gunn said that voice actors will also be playing their characters in live action
So itāll be both
For example: Frank Grillo voiced Rick Flag in Creature Commandos and also portrayed him in live action in Superman and Peacemaker
My prediction for the Mr Miracle show is that it will make Big Barda into a breakout name
This is because the internet loves a big powerful confident lady
Yes, that is definitely why she will become a breakout name⦠definitely not any other reason š š
||DEFINITELY not because sheās a muscle mommy||
Oh i gotta catch up
I have a proposition James Gunnā¦
Since weāre doing adaptations of comics now
As an animated show
The people yearn for Zatanna
Is that comic good?
It popped up somewhere and I was thinking of reading it
Ill give it a read sometime
Yearn is...accurate
So excited to see what they do with Absolute Zatanna
They'd probably need to do it in 3D. Apparently fishnets are hard to animate, which is why they were left out in the DCAU
Season 2 of Reacher in the books!
Overall I liked it
Definitely not as good as the first season but still solid
I don't think we're getting animated Absolute Zatanna then anytime soon xD
That muzzle goes hard
zatanna really should be a more prominent character bc she is a strong female character with deep lore (hot as hell)
some day we'll get a zatanna and constantine thing adapted
Isn't goth Zatanna just Raven?
Yeah Zatanna doesnāt have the Rosemaryās Baby backstory
She just followed in her dadās two careers: stage magician and regular magician
The perfect secret identity for a superhero magician: a stage magician
She doesnāt have a superhero name
She just goes around introducing herself by her real name
I would like to see more of her, though. My only experience so far has been the first season of Young Justice and the, like, one episode of Justice League she showed up in (the Wonder Woman pig episode).
Like Constantine but at least he isnāt trying to be. Sheri
Young Justice Zatanna is very different. Sheās usually Batmanās age, not Robinās age
I really like the Batman:TAS tidbit where sheās childhood friends with Bruce
I thought that was always pretty neat
I think they even made it canon in the comics
@keen flax remember when zatanna and robin had a great dynamic and then the show did nothing with it
Hey, I do have some appreciation for giving Dick more ships at random. But yeah, the format of that show between seasons killed a lot of narratives.
She does have a handful of good comic runs
Why must you torture her so
I hope Zatanna gets some bombastic focus soon
There's such fun you can do with choreography if a character has to be able to speak to do stuff
I run from my demons and they chase me down
(reminds me i need to get around to finding and watching the rest of the Yozakura Quartet stuff)
Just one more season to wrap up Young Justice. One more season. Please
They wonāt do a timeskip this time
I swear itāll wrap up
Bro please
They definitely wont leave the season off on a cliffhanger that they wonāt address at all in the next season
Riker's life just flashed before his eyes
-# #star trek #trekedit #tng #star trek tng #riker #troi #deanna troi #william riker #meme
omg, i was trying to look up some good gifs as an example and instead come across a different scene that finally solved a mystery for me of something i've been remembering but unable to place for so long š©
Who's excited for Doomsday
Ill probably watch it, but i wouldnt say i am excited
I've been a huge marvel fan for years. And yeah their recent projects have been awful, but I think it's gonna be good
I'm kinda hyped
I will also probably watch it but I also could barely care less.
(I feel the same about DC projects)
I think for both it has to be about superheros I already carr about. Black Panther, xmen, you know
And more often than not i like the animated projects more so the mcu never really interested me
Yeahhhh I canāt wait for spiderverse 3
Thatās the only superhero media I really care about that I know is coming right now
Wolverine game may be cool too
now beyond the spiderverse????????? it is ONE movie I am hyped for, 2027 cant get here faster
I think my appetite for hype end credit scenes and action figure mashup fight sequences and cool lore dumps has waned in recent years
No wolverine game looks soooo good
Give me a good story and characters
Oh damn 2027 is going to be a goated year. Just hit me that Iāll probably be getting married that year, and spiderverse 3 will be coming out. Thatās so hype
Your honeymoon is just yall 2 going to the movies to see it š
Yeah though I wonder how much just stems from them milking everything and putting out mid movies
I might get married in 27 as well!!!
Congrats!!!! Very exciting stuff!!!!
I wasn't but after third teaser I am
How much r the lotr tickets
Iām hyped for every part of this except RDJ as Doom
I'm mostly open minded about RDJ but there are certainly things they could do with him that I don't think I'd like
For me it remains a quality and trust issue with Marvel
things that people seem to think are likely but I'm not so certain
I heard the movie is going to end with the Doomslayer coming in with his SSG and making quick work of Doom.
This is almost certainly spoilertag worthy
There is evidently going to be a F4 vs XMen scene, VERY hyped for that
I personally loved Thunderbolts (though I felt it was short) and Fantastic 4
I think it's a pretty obvious joke tbh
isn't it just saying the main character from the non-Marvel Video Game Doom shows up?
I was trying to debate internally whether Kon was running with the joke or if the joke whooshed
The joke whooshed, in large part because I don't trust Marvel to not do something completely braindead with their movie
It didn't read as a joke, it read as depressingly plausible
More specially that Dr. Doom was called Doom in the message above and Iām like pshh ez, just send in the Doomslayer. Naturally
i am really looking forward to watching the one cool scene from doomsday on youtube a year after it leaves theaters
maybe they'll do the elevator scene again
I don't know what their fixation is with that scene but I'm half convinced its just the original set is still there and has been there ever since they filmed Civil War
i think this is a sentiment shared by The Youth
I liked probably about 2/3 of the pre-Endgame Marvel projects and I've liked less than 1/3 of the post-Endgame Marvel projects and I'm like 90% sure that Marvel's baseline of quality has changed a lot more than I have in this time
it is one of like 3 creative fight scenes in the entire MCU
Which is to say, if Marvel could get in the zone again I think I'd be as into the hype end credit scenes and action figure mashup fight sequences and cool lore dumps as I was previously, which is to say, a good amount but not a great amount
Of course, getting into that kind of trust zone is much much harder the second time than it is the first time
Fully a third of Marvel's existence has been this extended post-Endgame fumble at this point
it truly feels like the kind of movie they should be making, and were making before, is not like, an impossible task
they just lack a hard incentive to do that
I remember hearing for Quantumania that they were having this significant roundtable where they were gonna figure out how the multiverse worked
And its like, you already have a season of Loki and No Way Home out, how are you just now having this conversation
Loki was kinda what did it for me. It just felt so disconnected to Loki's existing characterization on multiple levels that I realized the main reason I liked following Marvel (the interesting and compelling characters) just wasn't there anymore
Also the fact they refused to put Tom Hiddleston in drag for at least one episode was a crime against humanity.
Thanos, when he arrived, felt inevitable. Most pre-Infinity War movies didn't really interface with Thanos story/foreshadowing directly except maybe insofar as they had an end credits scene pointing at him, but it was pretty much always clear they had a direction then
Doomsday has Doom in it, Doom is one of Marvel's more straightforward villains, and honestly I still couldn't tell you what Marvel's intent with this film is going to be
As it turns out "what is this movie about" is still an important question even when you're in a cinematic universe situation
Mister Miracle show will give us peak fiction finally
I haven't thought about anything Marvel
I keep forgetting the new thing(s) coming out
I would say my excitement is on the ground floor, or a little below
watched starfleet academy and as someone who loves the world and loves startrek im happy so far
||I saw an ad and the Klingon was named Jay-Den and it instantly killed all interest I had in it||
Also the prosthetic looked terrible
why?
Starfleet Academy all so far || he actually looked the most klingon ive seen in age||
It sounds like they just took a modern human name and put a hyphen
they didnt mention his name really at all and i never noticed his name being an issue
also ST:SA all || its also like ages in the future whats wrong with a klingon having an almost human name in this time period. how is that the "nah im not going to watch it" for you. sounds like such a weird reason to nope out of this||
you should totally watch the 1st 2 epps before passing that much judgement
feels like there would be a bunch of cross cultural polination between humans and klingons tho
that a name like that dosent pull me out and is easly explainable
Blue Beetle is officially returning soon to the DCU, confirms director.
"Good things are coming for Jaime Reyes and his family."
(Via: https://t.co/uWJJePBBXw)
dcu continuity start timeline is so weird
Peacemaker s1 ain't cannon but s2 and events references is apparently
blue beetle movie ain't canon but the character is the first DCU character
Watching Jetlag season 16, did anyone catch how long the hiders have to hide this time?
I think the Blue Beetle movie fits nicely into DCU canon, it doesnāt have any references to the wider DCEU afaik
Gunn had went out of his way to specify the movie isn't canon but the character and actor who plays it and everything is
Mcu needs filler
All of the movies are like these super relevent change the whole universe ts when it shouldnāt be
If you have filler movie and they are mediocre itās fine
And then you can cook on the important ones
Or just any sequels
I dunno I've felt like all they do is filler movies building towards some vague big⢠thing
Wish more movies stood on their own and did funky things with their characters but it's all just interconnected universe slop
PJ S2E7 ||Charm-speak, Mythomagic, Percy calling Annabeth āWise Girlā, so much cool stuff this episode.||
||Sally Jackson is great as always||
PJ S2E7 ||Is that Paul Blofisā car. I see that āI would rather be teachingā bumper sticker.||
You know, Sophie Turner looks good as Lara Croft https://variety.com/2026/tv/news/tomb-raider-sophie-turner-lara-croft-first-look-1236605699/
(though half of it the shades)
it's hard not to think of Sansa Stark when I hear her name but she has a shot at it
She can play Catelyn in the reboot they do in the 2030s
Would be more book accurate i think (although Michelle Fairley was a great Catelyn)
if ASOIAF is ever rebooted I really hope it's animated
Outlets were making noise about how she was busting her ass in the gym to get jacked for the role
I like Lara Croft
I am upset Netflix cancelled their animated series, it was really good
The plot looks interesting ||It appears that it will tie into the Professor Time stuff from Milo Murphyās Law.||
did dan say smth like seasons 5 and 6 take place in an alternate timeline than MML
I donāt think so
I believe that it is ||Act your Age that is in the separate timeline||
Of course he double dips
i feel like he said smth where doof doesnt learn hes professor time in the new seasons even tho like timeline wise he should have
I literally have nothing to say, what the hell is this
True peak
A fantastic idea
It's Romeo and Juliet and Godzilla, I feel like the premise is extremely clear and straightforward
I was very much not excited, some of the promos have been pushing that towards "a little interested". Though I've realised I just don't really get hyped for marvel stuff in general
it looks like a ultimate crowd pleaser which also makes it prime material to watch in a packed cinema with friends so that's what I'll do
good or not or (more probably) just mid, at least the experience will be a blast
that's how I enjoyed Deadpool and Wolverine
it's utter trash, but at least I saw it with friends
Reminds me of a trailer I recently saw for a comic that is āThe Rocketeer teams up with Tintin and Popeye to go to Skull Island and save Amelia Earhartā
The wonders of the public domain.
So ummm⦠Iāve got a pretty big ask
Where do I start with Star Trek?
Like Iāve heard The original series is pretty good but Iām afraid it might be dated
so I'm gonna say this as a non-Trekkie and someone else can supercede me, but I might just start with the theatrical films? Because yeah, the 60's show is beyond dated
not all the films are good, but they cover the characters, universe, and themes well enough that you'd get a solid sense
by all means watch the 60s show if you connect with the characters and want more, but you'll be seeing cardboard sets, toy props, and bad costumes on the modern screen, older TVs were a little smaller and it was harder to notice the jank
Alright, do you want to start with classic trek or post reboot trek?
For classic trek, people recommend starting with The Next Generation (TNG), but Voyager and Deep Space Nine (DS9) (less so) also work. If you want to start with post reboot trek, watch Strange New Worlds (SNW)
The original series is pretty dated yeah, but TNG holds up very well
Mostly
Strange New Worlds is probably the only good new Star Trek that works for new people other than the movies
Honestly, right now strange new worlds
Tng is a good start
And ds9 is like the favorite of a lot of trekkies
Lower Decks is stupidly good, but it relies on you already being a fan
Yaa so does starfleet academy tbh
I like Voyager more than DS9 tbh
Same
I prefer voyager. I think best starts are tng or strange new worlds
Depending on if you want new trek or old trek
TNG s1 is a bit shaky
I've heard people say starting with S3 of TNG is the way to go
I can't personally say either way
my TNG experience was literally just syndication, I'd watch whatever episode happened to be on TV
that's just how you did it at the time
I say pick your favorite captain and start there
Tng is very episodic rather than modern TV which is very continuing stories epp to epp
So the good options are everything bean outlined
You can start with Discovery, but please donāt
You can start with enterprise but also please dont
I assume you'd say the same about the Picard show and the JJ Abrams movies
I donāt mind the JJ Abramās movies, theyāre fun. But I donāt think theyāre great if you want to get the feel of Star Trek
Picard is something to watch once your a mega fan and want some more of Jean luc
I also dont mind the jj films
God, I hated season 1 so much
The final epps of Picard are peak rest is mostly meh
Next Generation is probably a better starting point but the original is also good
I just dont feel the original series 1. Holds up or 2. Is very representative of the rest of trek
Tng basicly sets things up to how they will be for the rest of trek
I think Patrick Stewart is cool
Maybe TNG then
It also has the two best actors, Patrick Stewart and John De Lancie
Then start tng and if you can get through a mildly cringe 1st season
Start epp 1 of the next generation
You can theoretically start anywhere within it
That is true
I was about to say, like most of the old Star Trek series are completely self contained episodes Iāve heard
Obv some overarching stories but still
Yeah problem of the week kinda epps
yeah, you can literally roll dice to find a starting point if you want, and you'll have the same experience that everyone in the 90s had
You could always start with one of the best episodes, see how you like it
Ooo whats beans fav epp
Whatās a good ep??
Cliche, but Measure of a Man
And anything with Q tbh
The Inner Light is also amazing
If your gonna watch one representative epp. Measure of a man is a decent one
Easly one of the best epps
Q episodes arenāt the best to start with lol, i just love them
MAMA MIA?? A 3.3 EP?
What the hell happens in that ep
Well
Darmok is another great episode
Temba, his arms wide
We donāt talk about that episode
Because it was a poorly done "clip show" epp it wasn't well done at all basicly a member berry episode
Somehow still better than TNG ||ghost sex||
I checked voyager
And ofc threshold is the lowest rated epp
I love that epp tho
Sorry no
"The fight "is lower
Itās so unintentionally funny
Threshold is 5.3 the fight is 5.0
Hmmm maybe
He sings opera in academy
@dusk hound also report back how you like things once you start watching also if your curious about anything just ask
Definitely will
Threshold Day is nigh
Thatās Emmy Award winning episode Threshold
TNG
Ignore that
Start with TOS both because itās fun, short, practically all scifi and fandom is linked to it in someway and itās iconic
Additionally TNG heavily builds on and references the original show, especially early on, in a way that expects you to know this episodes plot is a reference
Also because early TNG is infamously bad so it helps to be invested in the franchise already when watch it
Also also Shatner is a big ham and nobody should miss that
In this excerpt from the Star Trek episode "The Omega Glory", Captain James T. "Constitutional" Kirk sets some devolved primitives straight...
just watch random episdoes not even in order
Honestly? This is probably a solid approach. A lot of the Star Treks aren't serial shows, so as long as you keep direct continuations together, for a lot of them you should be able to work your way through a shuffled playlist
its probably the better approach for most of the older shows tbh
I love TOS and started there and its higher than tng for me but i do think TNG is a better reflection of the franchise
i wonder how cronological would go
speaking of DS9 obligatory b5 reccomendation
watched the D&D movie last night
very fun till the contrived and generic bit at the end
Which bit was that?

||Holga gets conveniently mortally injured out of pretty much nowhere at the end so Ed can learn to let go of his wife and use the tablet on Holga||
I'll give it points for setting up ||themes of letting go and how Holga was more of a mother to KIra than her actual mother||
||I mean, I think he was learning that all movie||
still a pretty cheap move to pull
||Its not like he just learnt that then, that just gave him a chance to really prove it||

freakishly competent lawful good guy who's actually a lawful good nice person
Watching Daria from the start, man I missed watching this show in middle school
its a good show
Absolutely, the first episode had me giggling a lot š
I first watched it in school. A teacher who was gonna be fired just let us watch it and we collectively brought in a basically a full breakfast buffet. The princepal came by but he couldn't do anything since what was he gonna do fire her?
We already have our DCU Darkseid
Crazy
Now we wait for the announcement
Now who will be DC Santa to give him his coal
Watching LOTR today at the movies.

lol the only movie theater in my small city is an apartment complex now. Of course people go to the next town over
My parents have to go like 45min one way to get to the nearest theater and they still do it
Finished the Fellowship! The theater was pretty packed actually. I don't know why they don't make movies like this anymore.
Hell Iāve gone multiple towns over to go see stuff in imax
Or to see stuff in another county because itās limited release
LOTR fellowship ||Did the dwarves not help the elves/men kill Sauron? It said in the beginning that it was just the elves and men?||
It takes me about 40mins to get to this theater.
||they did not||
||some helped but like not on the whole as a race||
||Those greedy dwarves, no use they are! ||
You should read the Hobbit
Yeah but I've been stuck between Sanderson and Wight, it's been hard.
The Hobbit is a very breezy read
LotR ||wait I lied it looks like Durin sent dwarves ||
Hobbit is short and sweet
Itās all about how ||the Dwarves suck||
Maybe ill give the andy serkis audiobook a go
||The movies ignore it then.
||
Itās awesome I think the last one I saw was Oppenheimer and itās such a different experience
Itās amazing
Love his Hobbit
And then as with a lot of kids I completely bounced off fellowship
Is this where I say I kinda liked the hobbit movies
The ||fart jokes|| are a little over the top but idk the movies are fun
I liked the first Hobbit movie quite a bit
They get worse as you go along though
In large part because they made a bunch of stuff up to fill time and it all sucks
But also, in so doing, they dilute Bilbo and his story and the whole charm of The Hobbit is that its his story and his lens for what's going on
Bilbo is front in center in the first movie and by the third you'll go a full hour without him being in any given scene
Yeah but the dwarfs sing that song
I mean even that trailed off by the third movie
BUT KON THEY SING THE SONG
I think it would have been better as a duology for sure
Wow I'm really out of touch
I literally was like "how many towns these days don't have a movie theater"?
Have you tried scooting over so itās within arms reach?
I have 60k people in my town!
And two universities
I have no sense of scale for what that means. That sounds like a lot of people
Idk the theater in my town closed because people kept driving to the nicer theater in a neighboring area
It is not a small town
Hobbit movies are fun enough
First one especially
Yes
Yeah my town has about 93k people
It was Covid and the fact that there are nicer theaters
Dang our population has really shot up over the past decade looking at this graph
The hobbit films cut down to a single four hour experience make for a pretty great film.
Like the last movie I saw there was sicario in like 2016
Ahhh
Dang lol
The funniest part of the Hobbit movies is movie 3 because ||the movie is all about the Battle of the Five Armies which Bilbo is passed out for in the book lmao||
There actually were two across the street from each other there
And itās on the town border
Our town has I think 2 theaters these days? Though idk who tf is keeping our Regal afloat. Everyone I talk to wouldn't dream of going there over our local theater since the local theater is just miles better
The third theater was a dollar theater but I think that closed sometime in the last 15 years or so
Regal is the one that closed in my town I think
It had cheap uncomfortable seats and they were sometimes dirty, easy to see why people didnāt go there
Yeah we have a really nice amc the town over
Yeah I'd only go to the regal if I had to (local theater not having the movie or something). But even then I'd probably drive 30-40 minutes to a nicer theater
But itās not like a new theater opened in its place, itās been gone for about 5 years
Going to chain theaters makes me really appreciate the local theater so much
Local theater's food and popcorn is so much better (it's actually worth getting!)
Love me my drunken fries with beer cheese
And the popcorn butter dispensers use real butter
Their cocktails are actually surprisingly good too. Granted I don't get those often
Oh Iām only getting like a small box of candy at a movie theater I want buttery hands
I tend to get drunken fries and popcorn usually when I go to the theater
I grab a ridiculous amount of napkins to offset the butter that gets on the hands lol
Tolkien all ||From what I understand of it, the elves did a wee bit of genociding the dwarves before they realized they were an intelligent peoples (and that's according to history as the elves tell it), so I don't really blame the dwarves for not being all that interested in helping the elves do anything.||
I do think the animated return of the king was better than the live action.
Very late to this but I just did a reread of the Hobbit with the Andy Serkis audiobook and that man performs. It's not just an impression of his coworkers but he really does differentiate voices which is good when you have a dozen dwarves and the best surprise was him singing all the songs that come up (because Tolkien, there are many)
Oh maybe I'm not late since we're still on LOTR discourse
Fellowship ||This movie did show its age though, I noticed the horseriding scene was a bunch of spliced cuts, it was so bad to watch.
Also,I forgot how bad the ending was Gandalf dies, Boromir gets Sean Beaned and two of the hobbit get napped. It's pretty dark.||
Anyway, bought the Serkis LOTR audiobooks should I continue to do that (right now I've got The Sunlit Man reread in my audiobook slot, because I did that as ebook the first time and figure I should try William DeMerrit's narration)
LOTR books/movies ||I will say as a teen I did wonder where Tom Bombadil and the Scouring of the Shire went, but I recognize those are both pace killers. A friend was recently reading the books for the first time and she texted me, "wtf is this Tom Bombadil nonsense it keeps going on and on"||
Is it ridiculous for me to say that Nia DaCosta should be given a crack at the DCU Wonder Woman movie
No
His Silmarillion finally released too!
LOTR stupid thought ||Why didn't they just scoop lava from the mountain and bring it to the ring?
||
LOTR ||Same counterargument as the āwhy didnāt they fly the eagles to Mordorā||
LotR ||Well you see, at first the lava is very hot, making it difficult to scoop. Then, as it travels, it becomes very cool, making it very rock.||
||But you could reheat the lava, it's from where it's from, not from the actual heat.||
LOTR ||Why doesn't Sauron go invisible or into the shadow realm wearing the ring like everyone else?||
60k is tiny
lol no it isnāt. Iām part of a massive metro area
I have a friend who lives in another state and I have more people in my town than they have in their county
ok? rural eras exist all over
My hometown was ~50k growing up though now I think it's approaching 70k, but we are "the city" for the more rural folks (definitely ran into BYU-I kids coming into town for a fancy date at the movie theater). I went to undergrad in the southeast and the football stadium holds ~80k, and I was a little stunned that the entire population of my home town would fit neatly into it
Though currently my "will I see a movie in a theater" restriction isn't so much distance as it is "can we find a babysitter" which makes watching theatrical in a release window difficult. It's nice to be able to pause and eat our own snacks at home, but definitely missing out on the scale of audiovisual
like saying other tiny towns exist isnt some big surprise

@lone canyon (HotD + F+B) ||thinking about HotD reminded me how amazing Tom was as Aegon like they should have let him cook with being besties with Sunfyre and his high charisma and such. Like he could have been so amazing and he carried S2, but that felt in spite of how the writers tried to portray him||
||I really do hate that we donāt get moments between him and sunfire. Sunfire and him should be the touchstone of their relationship and the only thing pure that reminds between them when they are both crippled and angry. || hotd+ fire and blood
Some quotes regarding this from Fire and Blood ||
Aegonās young Sunfyre was said to be the most beautiful dragon ever seen upon the earth
ā¦.
After the coronation, the remaining Kingsguard escorted Aegon to his mount, a splendid creature with gleaming golden scales and pale pink wing membranes. āSunfyreā was the name given this dragon of the golden dawn. Munkun tells us the king flew thrice around the city before landing inside the walls of the Red Keep.
ā¦
The king changed the color of the dragon on his banners from red to gold, to celebrate the brilliant golden scales of his dragon, Sunfyre
ā¦
Sunfyreās scales still shone like beaten gold in the sunlight, but as he sprawled across the fused black Valyrian stone of the yard, it was plain to see he was a broken thing, he who had been the most magnificent dragon ever to fly the skies of Westeros.
ā¦
And there Aegon might have remained, hidden yet harmless, dulling his pain with wine and hiding his burn scars beneath a heavy cloak, had Sunfyre not made his way to Dragonstone. We may ask what drew him back to the Dragonmont, for many have. Was the wounded dragon, with his half-healed broken wing, driven by some primal instinct to return to his birthplace, the smoking mountain where he had emerged from his egg? Or did he somehow sense the presence of King Aegon on the island, across long leagues and stormy seas, and fly there to rejoin his rider? Septon Eustace goes so far as to suggest that Sunfyre sensed Aegonās desperate need. But who can presume to know the heart of a dragon?||
|| Never forget what they took from us š ||
Heās easily the standout actor in the second season too, wasted opportunity to not just have him in more scenes
I agree. He had so much working against him and was still the standout.
HotD + FaB ||they had to reduce his role and demonize him because if he was the secondary MC and wasnāt written to be so bad, people would LOVE him and not want to support Rhaenyra ||
westerns and samurai films were very incestuous in the 60s
It's why Ghost of Yotei, a Western game set in feudal Hokkaido, just works.
Because the two genres are almost overlapping circles, differing only in their aesthetic.
The Revolver is just gun Katana
Looks objectively badass
Is objectively kinda bad and impractical actually irl
Used every time in the final 1v1 duel
Revolvers are only "kinda bad and impractical" relative to more modern semiautos, and even then there was a long period of time where some caliber/magazine configurations struggled to not have feed errors
The katana always had dubious value as a weapon
from what I understand katanas were the result of metallurgical constraints and a warrior culture that heavily valued tradition
I mean, katana's have decent value given the geographical conditions
katanas were for aura
(Feudal Japan didn't have good steel)
And revolvers won the west. Not figuratively, they were fantastic relative to their peers
Absolutely, firing 6 shots before reloading handily beats 1 shot before reloading, especially if you aren't concerned about fouling that happens after each shot
Not just reloading
You had other weapons (usually rifles or shotguns) concurrent with the revolver that could fire multiple times before reloading, but in most cases they were pump or lever action weapons, which meant you had to fully reacquire your target after every shot
(I say "concurrent with the revolver", but I mean the weapon at its zenith. People still make and use revolvers and they were common law enforcement weapons up to the 1950s-60s)
Rewatching Hellboy for the first time since I was a kid
You can see how this influenced Pan's Labyrinth and that's a crazy sentence right there
hell revolvers still have the use case of being quite reliable compared to semi autos generally
That's a lot less true than it was even 30-40 years ago
Revolvers are mostly better if you want to leave a gun somewhere fully unmaintained for years at a time
And like honestly you shouldn't own a gun if you aren't going to practice with it and properly maintain it imo so like what are we even doing here with revolvers
Honestly, I think there's a solid case that cops should still carry revolvers if they're carrying a gun as part of their regular duties. A police officer shouldn't be in a situation where they need to fire <number of chambers> shots.
I knew someone who (claimed they) hunted deer with a 44
Felt like needless machismo stuff assuming he actually did
I guess him telling me this was needless machismo whether or not he actually did it
Loading a revolver is also way faster than people imagine if your good at it
That said, in wilderness survival circles 10mm is making a comeback as a bear gun
A comeback?
It was mildly popular when it was new
Not developed for wilderness survival though, it was developed for the FBI as an LEO carry
Bears have started wearing body armor so this makes sense
Always so weird to me that Fallout just blithely uses the 10mm like its a 9mm but better because bigger, it really isn't a similar round at all
The problem with bears is if you shoot them they won't bleed out before they kill you and they actually do have very thick skulls
i guess self defense so you dont need to maintain it
223 rounds will basically bounce off them ( exaggeration but less than youād think)
I'm aware. I was told its replacing 44 because its more controllable
An unmaintained gun is a risk to yourself and anyone nearby
Regardless of what its to be used for
I dunno like I say if you're gonna have a self defense weapon at all you should be using it for familiarity's sake and maintaining it properly. Gun ownership is not a thing to half ass
Part of maintenance is maintaining your own personal skill and understanding of the weapon
So if someone is gonna get a revolver to be lazy about owning a gun, maybe that person should not be owning a gun
Specifically for self defense yeah you should be practicing tho recreational firearms itās not uncommon to not shoot if itās for a format you donāt do often that said you should be doing maintenance
Circling back to the topic that's relevant to this channel...
are guns not a form of media
They definitely are entertaining
Revolvers stick around beyond their relevance for the same reason as katanas did
Tradition and accompanying aura
I mean I think itās becuase itās from the same era
Another example of the western-samurai genre similarity
It represent the transition between modern and a more wilder era
Katanas predate revolvers by centuries
They are on opposite sides of the wild-modern divide
More than 1000 years, if Google is to be believed in 2026
Famously depicted in the modern masterpiece Total War: Shogun 2: Fall of the Samurai
Yeah but they still were very much around at the time of the end of the Bakufu
They were still around in WWII
I mean yes but not the same
Famously depicted in hit Tom Cruise film The Last Samurai
They remained symbols of the warrior spirit which refused to fully evolve with the changing world, so yes I would say it was the same
is there a western film like last samuria but its a japanese dude instead of a white guy
Unfortunately the soundtrack for that movie is peak
The only movie I can think of where revolvers are used specifically to depict a refusal to fully evolve with the changing world is Dirty Harry, kind of
And even then the other cops do use revolvers, just not that revolver
They really did saigo takamori so dirty
Blue Eye Samurai, kind of
Kind of western, kind of not white
I should rewatch that before season 2
Incredible show
Many westerns grapple with the subsuming of the west by civilization
That's true, but I can't recall that the revolver is specifically used as a symbol of that
(Google isn't necessarily to be believed)
that takes place in japan so not really what i meant
Katana as a word appears around 1300 years ago, but the weapons you'd more typically classify as katana don't make an appearance until much later, somewhen in the 1300s
(they started as short swords, then grew to great swords, until settling in on their modern standard length)
Watched Wake Up Dead Man. Was really good.
Wake Up Dead Man ||it had a wonderful amount of heart. Jud was an amazing character||
WUDM || Iām religious but more of a Jud than anything so I LOVED the juxtaposition of religion being used for power vs. for love. And how there was also the areligious Blanc (who really was in the background to Judās story). And like⦠it is very in tune to modern religious groups and cults of personality and modern internet culture. Like lots of small things said that created so many layers. ||
I thought it was meh for a whodunnit (overcomplicated and I found it difficult to follow yet with ||a very singularly suspicious suspect||) but great as an exploration of faith
WUDM ||I had figured out a good portion of the whodunnit so it didnāt feel overly complicated but the mystery is secondary to the exploration of faith most definitely||
tbh my biggest problem is WUDM||Think the story would fit so much better if it was a protestant church instead of a catholic one||
Ignoring the obvious grifting for a second, is Alex Kurtzman really that widely hated by Star Trek fans?
(Also lol at Gunn being here when he gave DC itās most profitable and critically successful non-Batman movie in a decade)
Didnt you swear off twitter
I donāt have it, I just stumbled across this on Reddit
next site to swear off
So the thing about Star Trek is every time they make a new Star Trek, it turns out that it isn't <Star Trek the Trekkie grew up with>
I don't know if any main line Star Trek has been received well by die-hard fans when it came out, they just age into popularity as the people that did enjoy them age up
Reddit is the silent killer
I just think the discovery and piccard was bad the rest of their new trek has been good to fine
Agreed
Section 31 was a bit suspect at times
But other than some moments in section 31 im with gneiss on this
Altho I have enjoyed a bunch of discovery I agree its "bad"
We couldn't have strange new worlds if we didnt have discovery tho
I think we could but yeah it was a benefit
is discovery the worst mainline startrek?
I vote enterprise is worse
nah enterprise is better than discovery
I have enterprise above voyager actually
but i really like enterprise
~~My hot take is on any given day id put it above TNG if im being honest ~~
WUDM ||I'd have to find the interview, but Rian Johnson did say he was influenced by his Protestant upbringing but Catholics have better aesthetics which is important for a film||
I hated Section 31 with a passion. It felt genuinely offensive
Aha, here it is
https://sojo.net/articles/culture-interview/knives-outs-rian-johnson-says-he-will-always-be-youth-group-kid
You grew up Protestant. Why did you set Wake Up Dead Man in the Catholic tradition?
Part of it is that the movie is about the idea of storytelling. Part of it is just that, honestly, most of the churches I actually grew up going to look like Pottery Barns.
Same here. Itās not a very aesthetic tradition.
It is not at all! But there is nothing cooler-looking than Catholicism. Growing up as a Protestant, there was always an exotic nature to the Catholic Church.
I think also for myselfābecause a lot of the stuff that Iām talking about in the movie applies directly to my Protestant evangelical upbringingāsetting it in the Catholic Church gave me just a little bit of distance. I could talk more directly to it without feeling like I was being quite so on the nose.
The ending was completely antithetical to Star Trek
Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks
lower decks was recieved controversially at launch enough i think it doesn't count maube strange new worlds
That is some heresy I like it
truthfully i think TNG is objectively better but Enterprise has lot of stuff i love and i watched it with my dad so. The back half if very solid and outside of a few characters i just think the setting is more fun than the TNG era to me
ah that makes sense
Moopsy
I don't have memories with fear depth about watching the Hellboy movies as a kid but I remember liking the second one more
But I rewatched them last night and now I like the first one considerably more lol
Are there any PCW films that aren't shocking/disturbing or sexually explicit?
The South Korean director? Isnāt brutal violence and disturbing subjects kinda his thing?
Yes
It's kinda like asking is there a Brandon book without hard magic system/sciencey stuff
RIP
I've heard SK TV is quite mild so I looked into their cinema
Imagine my surprise at how far they go there
Oo I wanted to see this honestly
Iām honestly curious as to what that could be about.
How's Decision to Leave?
Yāall Bridgerton season 4 is coming soon
It doesn't seem as R rated as the rest of his stuff
Ok fair enough
Donāt know much about this guy but Iām glad Henry Braham isnāt coming back tbh
Cinematography in Superman was kinda shaky
Have NOT watched Shogun so I canāt comment on the cinematography in that
Its pretty really good
the cinematography of Superman was bad?
I donāt know cinematography that well but I felt like it gave a good ācomic bookā vibe. Just the way the camera moved.
Man
Why do cool steelbooks always gotta come in 4k
Gimme a good bluray steelbook for once
But the 4k is blu-ray? Am I missing something?
Do you need like a newer/special kind of Blu-ray player for the 4k discs?
I genuinely canāt remember the last time I played a physical disc now that I think about it. Has to have been at least 10-15 years ago now
But there are also very few movies I would rate highly enough that Iād want to own it. I think the only ones that come to mind off the top of my head would be:
- Arrival
- Sinners
- Spiderverse 1
- Spiderverse 2
i'd love to get the eventual special edition of the spiderverse trilogy
Oooo yeah thatād be nice
I wonder if there are any other movies Iām missing that I like enough to own š¤
Oh spirited away yeah that one makes the list
Parasite may make the list
Lion king yeah for sure
There are definitely some others going through just a list of the top movies on IMDB
This would be a good list to put together on Giftful š¤
I think it's more about the tv screen, someone can correct me but I think if you don't have a 4k tv it gets downgraded to 1080p, whereas regular blueray which is already 1080p looks better on a normal tv
Again I could be wrong on that
lot of Fun
pretty funny and great cinematography
shoguns cinemetagrophy is so good
like the res of the show
I so wanna watch Shogun but it's in yet another streaming service
Wait, they still make 1080p TVs?
I feel like a few years back when I was in the market for a TV they were all 4K now
And even some number of years prior most TVs were 4K/4K TVs had gotten pretty inexpensive with the Rokus and all that
Idk, but it's not like tvs stop working, the main reason to get a new one is usually just size/picture improvement. Which is to say the tvs in my house are all like 8+ years old and so not 4k
Fair enough!

I think it's just leaning into the comedy angle
It's far from the most outrageous bit of the humour in the ep imo
Yeah it was good but the ||potty humor || Iāve heard is not going away knight if the seven kingdoms
If i was to pick up some of the absolute dc comics in tpb where do I start

I see; thanks
Wait, wasn't there a plot point in Gunn's Superman about how ||his parents wanted him to have a harem?||
||I guess they're continuing... that?||
I believe this changes depending on continuity
Thatās me simplifying it thereās a LOT more to her character but thatās basically her whole thing
I always assumed it was gonna be her since thatās just right up James Gunnās alley for humor
Ok, at this point the leaks you're posting are enough to construct the plot of the movie
(i.e. could you spoil those please)
doubling request to spoiler tag this
FWIW that tweet isnāt accurately representing the article it linked
The bit about ||Maxima starting evil but teaming up with the heroes at the end|| is speculation on the authorās part
I love Charlie from Twilight
A Knight of the 7 Kingdoms e1 ||Ive been fine with them, i think its the shows way of including Duncs internal monologue and there was only one that I felt was a bit odd (cant rememeber which one now)||
||I think the one at the start was fine but the one near the end with the arrow felt out of place to me||
I think you can start with literally any
(Probably so long as its yknow issue 1/volume 1 of that series)
So far they've all been relatively self-contained
Just donāt start with like volume 2 of a run or something
Only one to maybe stay away from is Absolute Evil, though I think that's a one off right now
Because that one's focused on connecting the different plotlines and kind of assumes you have some knowledge of them
Absolute Wonder Woman is the one Iāll recommend, itās just straight up AMAZING
But Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, and Green Lantern all work about equally fine as starting points imo
Honestly I can never really decide which my favourite is š
I was mabey gonna pick up flash
And I only collect trades never pick up individual issues
So they are always in the correct order
Flash is good! I liked flash
Absolute Wonder Woman is amazing!!!
She has a huge sword!! And an undead Pegasus!!! And a magic arm!!!
I preordered volume 2 as my birthday gift to myself
Ms Prince, are you single?
Guts wants what she has (a sword the size of a skyscraper)
Absolute Superman is also Hella based
These should be spoiled
Absolute WW ||Cloud Strife found dead in a ditch||
is absolute flash any good
havent really read any of the absoltue stuff except 4 batman which i thought was bad
Wait im delusional
I'll be honest, it's the only flash comic I've read, but I enjoyed the characters and especially the colours/art
???
nothing i got confused because flash wasnt mentioned in any of the message i was replying to and im tired as hell so whatever
oh I forgot to put flash in my list
ill probably check out absolute maritan manhunter either way i heard that was good
Yaa i mentioned flash
Was the 1st mention of it
Cause I saw it on the shelf at my lgs
MM is really whacky /pos
At least, the art is
whats /pos
Positive
Absolute Flash looks like a butch lesbian
This isnāt related to the quality of the comic
I see it
del Toro's debut feature Cronos is a flawless film imo but his first available work, the 33 minute short DƵna Lupe, kinda sucks lol
This is because the flash is not actually a butch lesbian
hot takes over here
I honestly like all of the Absolute runs, but Absolute GL is probably the one Iām least interested in
No I think this is a very cold take
Started Percy Jackson S2 and I think it was a nice streamlining of [show + books] ||having Tyson be present and whatnot without an extended intro at the mortal school||
Im too anime brained so my first thought was Absolute Gurren Lagann
I'm proud of myself of remembering that even though it's been years since I read the books
About to watch Fellowship of the Ring in theaters.
thats because its wally west and not jay garrick
Watching the original Doctor Whos with William Hartnell and it's so freaky hilarious. The acting and fighting has me rolling on the floor
And the logical inconsistencies omg
I've been watching through all the old stuff, and there's a scene in one of the Hartnell era series where you can see the actress holding onto the wall as she goes through a door because otherwise it's all going to fall over. :P
That's awesome
It's one of the ones in a spaceship, obviously, and I think it supposed to be a sliding door or something, but the whole thing is clearly a poorly constructed set that wobbles.
They really did work on a shoestring budget
And did very great work with it. Buuuutttt it's still hilarious
Monsters that are just actors wrapped in bubblewrap painted green...
Spacestations that are models on bits of string hanging in front of a black background.
It's got a charm that CGI locations and creatures will never have.
They did so much with so little
The fighting scenes are the best. Going at like, 1/10 speed, very clearly not actually hitting anything
I watched the documentary about Hartnell and it was beautiful

||Lex is gonna be the jealous ex||
So Lore Olympus is getting a TV show on Prime.... interesting.
Anyone who's read it knows it ran off a cliff and ended in a dumpster fire so I wonder if... with the new medium itll be edited/fixed? Not to mention who's going to voice the characters?? Funny enough as much as the webtoon made me physically ill im... excited?? š
Because if it can get a story overhaul/redo, theres a solid chance it can actually be good
All that to say: I run from my demons and they chase me down and tackle me to the ground to drag me back to the trenches š
It has its moments
I read it weekly for years. Theres great bones there but what you get is not what is advertised š
Good ones
And spectacularly bad ones
yet another victim of "this would be so good if it were good"?
if you didn't like it, I suppose
