I chose D13 for my Avatar 3 Imax theater
and yes, I am watching it alone
if anyone wants to fly to korea to watch it with me, you are welcome!
😬
3!
Hours!

oh
yay
i will share my thoughts
i will have many
A film by Steven Spielberg. Disclosure Day is in theaters 06.12.26.
If you found out we weren’t alone, if someone showed you, proved it to you, would that frighten you? This summer, the truth belongs to seven billion people.
We are coming close to … Disclosure Day.
Universal Pictures is proud to release a new original event film created ...
Dammit scrolled up and this was a repost sorry
BWAAA
isn't that noise a full meme at this point?
I think it's been so long that it's no longer a meme
Avatar 3 was okay
Nothing new tbh
It was a mix of 1 and 2 ngl
1 is my personal favorite
Oh is that out?
-# oh I just assumed it came out and I didn't notice xD
A lot of movies release in Korea first because of its strong market and audience
Anyways, it released today and I watched it at 8:30 am which was the earliest
so that makes me one of the first people to watch it!
popcorn was my breakfast
Paramount REALLY wants WB holy crap
i dont want netflix to win dear god i dont theyre horrible but i definetly dont want paramount
Netflix is the lesser of two evils
three
Or did the saudis drop out of the race
Weren’t the Saudis WITH Paramount??
that's the paramount deal
AH misremembering then
Yep
but yeah paramounts just the wost option all around
Oh thank god. That makes a paramount takeover less likely right?
paramounts one good movie in the past like 5 years had the worse marketing ive ever seen
i def think they have done more than one good movie what are you thinking of
i was half joking but i was thinking about transformers one when i said that
i was gonna say at minimum you have that and the dnd movie also multiple sonics for what thats worth
thew new naked gun too
Fallout season 2 tomorrow!
Yeah gonna try and watch Avatar 3 in 2D format
I don’t really like 3D at all
I watched the original in 2D, everyone told me I was missing out, so I tried the sequel in 3D, but yeah I don't particularly think it was worth it
maybe it's better for people with perfect vision or something
my vision isn't even bad but it just made the movie look worse
I’m so glad because skydance and Ellison seem lowkey sus
Still mad they have Star Trek 😔
I've been watching some videos about Avengers Doomsday and I think it's obvious that they're trying to skip almost all the content after 2019
I guess targeting the casual audience that abandoned them in Endgame
I don't know if that's how I would phrase it but sure, they want it to be accessible to anyone, certainly
you can't make a billion dollars if your movie is made for people who watched all of their busts and bombs over their past 5 years
Marvel right now
Obviously they are not going to ignore all the movies that were in between, such as NWH, F4, Thunderbolts, Doctor Strange, Deadpool and Guardians of the Galaxy
its a smart business decision but a cowardly creative decision. I'm not sure exactly what changed in creative over the years but it bums me out
Marketing people are geniuses
Marvel was never one for the creatives tbh
the reason it doesn't bother me, I think, is because from my perspective, those movies already failed. WIth only a couple exceptions they weren't building towards anything to begin with, and with those exceptions they already pivoted away from those goals
Pre 2019 mcu had three unironically good movies and three more with hype moments and aura
like the multiverse saga is a bust, I just accept it and roll with it
The thing is, that saga didn't connect with the audience at all, and we couldn't even make connections
I suppose all they had left was nostalgia.
pretty much. I suppose the point I am making is that I don't think they could do some sort of Brandon Sanderson magic to connect all the dots that are there into a great climax, the pieces just don't fit
That's why I think they also want to revisit some of Civil War, pitting Doom against Captain America, since they haven't had time to develop Reed Richards' rivalry
I think the only thing the MCU has in common with BS is that they are both marketing gods
I wanna know which 6 you think are good
I'm assuming the thought process was that they wanted Doomsday to be an entry/re-entry point, they didn't want people to feel like they can't watch this movie if they didn't watch a Fantastic Four movie
Unironically good:
winter soldier
iron man 1
thor ragnarok
Hype moments and aura:
avengers
civil war
infinity war
like that sort of high-continuity concept just sort of works until it doesn't, eventually people drop off and it's very hard to get people to hop on when the growth stops
I disagree that Civil War had hype moments but otherwise agree
I think I would’ve substituted Black Panther for Civil War
I did not like black panther
It started strong but the ending was real bad
That’s the MCU movie I think is most likely to endure in pop culture long term
It raises the question of whether heroes should be controlled or guided by governments
Pop culture impact is true
Tbh “we should be unlicensed vigilantes” is not a message that actually resonates irl and also they didn’t even address it
The end of civil war was absolutely hype though
you have to tag spoilers
Because ||Iron Man was right||
civil war ||lmao, as if "we should all register with the US government and consider ourselves an arm of this country's military in practice" is not even less appealing||
||he picked the wrong people to decide they should all be accountable to||
Yeah okay that’s fair
||i'd pick steve's stance ANY DAY if my guy came up to me and said "hey i decided for all of us that we need to ask THE US GOVERNMENT for permission to do our thang now and forever, alright"||
||as if steve's stance was "wow i just love being a vigilante so much" i just||
Have you seen Fantastic Four
It was good
||unfortunate because I hate tony stark lmao||
||wasn’t it the UN?||
i mean like, come on
I was going to watch it in theatres but then I forgor
I did recently and its great
Can't wait for doomsday so I can see more of them
Really hope they are the leads and the promo is just bait
Are they on YouTube yet?
rips are being posted and getting DMCAd
Okay we'll ill probs be watching it in the week between Christmas and newyears
So will see at least one of them
Leaked trailer / leaked info ||the first trailer will focus on Cap. The next on Thor. The next is Doom. The next is a regular trailer.
RDJ is Doom. So there is already that indication they will ignore the last 5 years and focus on Steve Rogers vs. Iron Man lookalike ||

Idk if we should assume anything like "they will ignore everything post endgame" with that information
That seems a bit pessimistic
And seems a bit of a leap
Wonder how they’re gonna do magneto and professor x
are they going to?
Xmen 2028
it's been reported for some time now that (Doomsday) ||many classic FOX X-Men characters will appear in Doomsday, though I don't recall which is which.|| Beyond that, MCU ||Feige has said that they're planning a 'Mutant Saga' after the 'Multiverse Saga', so once Secret Wars is over, they'll probably start rebuilding with an X-Men series||
Exactly this
Idk how they’re gonna work in the holocaust backstory
Solid JJ style
They better work in the holocaust backstory
They’d have to either set it in the 60s, make him super old, or just do some slow aging shenanigans
Or freeze him lmao
Yeah, only after Secret Wars tho
They’re basically rebooting after Secret Wars
Or make his mutant power include slow aging
do i want to see the mcu try to do a holocaust backstory
Lots of options
i think the answer is no
I will not be surprised if they do some different, fictionalized genocide backstory that hits all the same beats
They could also do the Yugoslav wars
it never works when the mcu tries to do things like this. seeing islamaphobia in ms marvel was just not working
"hey, this is like some sort of thrid reich"
Well the mcu tries to be nuanced but every problem has to be resolved with two hot guys hitting each other against a greenscreen
I think honestly that changing it to anything but the holocaust it problematic, but I do agree that the MCU isn’t good at handling such topics with tact
The way the first fox movie did it was good
I do feel like the farther we move away from when the Holocaust was, its increasingly harder to do Magneto’s backstory that way, but I’m always in the boat of slow aging being a mutant power of his along with the magnetism
The Xmen movies did professor x and magneto better than the comics
Eventually they will have to either stop using Magento, change his backstory, or make him immortal
I’m kind of against magneto being immortal because I would prefer the Xmen be more grounded? As opposed to “yeah we’re just gods”
If they cast a young magneto, which I find likely, they'll need to think of something
I think the backstory is just too important to completely leave out, maybe the child of survivors or something along those lines
the number of stories where the prof x and magneto dynamic is done well is smaller than you think. mostly they just potential man that narrative arc
yeah, X-Men 2000 had a 60-ish Magneto, he was the right age at the time for a holocaust survivor. If you want your movies to take place in the present day, it's hard to do that organically anymore
I do hope Ian and Patrick show up at some point tho
I think retro Xmen was also at one point the plan but idk if thats still gonna happen
i think you could thematically make him not aging tie into his inability to move on. contrast this with prof x who ages and dies. but now way they are thinking that deep
Honestly, I’d keep Magneto’s Jewish heritage but make him a Bosniak or Bosnian Croat that survived the Yugoslav wars. Like have one of his grandparents be a Holocaust survivor who fought with Tito or something
There are definitely a lot of things they can do to keep the themes
This is good
They can also have an incursion that merges two universes occur, the XMen universe being one from the 80s.
I think the timey wimey stuff may be too complex for most audiences
doomsday ||more or less confusing than bringing back rogers and tony lmao||
I think they can do multiverse stuff very easily to get them to the right ages
Mabey the holocaust happened in 1980 in some other universe
Just nuke it and start over
That probs makes more sense than my plan lol
Is dr doom a Tony from a different universe tho is the question
i am positive that will be the case
Saw a good question in a friends discord the other day and I’ll ask it here: Who would you guys rather have a better run in the next decade or so? And who do you guys think WILL have the better run? Marvel films or DC films?
I do not think that can be the case
My answer is obv DC and DC
F4 ||Doom is from the F4 universe.||
i think DC will clear marvel. the only way i see it going wrong is if the gunn isms get too much
the batman also count
Imo DC will have a better run in the 2030s
Marvel. If Marvel does good on mutants, Marvel. Otherwise: DC.
I just want a normal Batfamily saga!!!!
x men fans: hey you got any good xmen stories
Please just give me Batman solving crimes, Dick is in uni and dating Babs, Damian is in juvenile reformatory, Cass is a ballerina, Jason is a crime lord and Tim is somewhere idk
God Loves Man Kills is good
dick dating babs would be elite
You got any good post 90s Xmen stories
tim can be in the audience
camille read ultimate x men
it has nothing to do with the x men and you would love it
you should also read power fantasy
Okay my personal plan for Batman is:
movie 1: dick becomes nightwing, we introduce Jason as Robin, contrast between Dick and Jason’s backstories and personalities, Bruce bonds with both of them and solves crimes
Movie 2: introduce Cass, the story is about figuring out what to do with her and what her deal is
Movie 3: killing joke + death in the family together
Movie 4: introduce Damian, and have him be Robin after Jason
Movie 5: Utrh
Sorry Tim Drake fans
Cassandra cain fans: hey you got any good cassandra cain stories
I think she had an actually good run as batgirl
I will never forgive comics for introducing the hardest ideas ever and then never doing anything with them
Stephanie Brown fans: you guys get stories?
I want Helena Wayne to exist in the dcu and be Catwoman and Batman’s baby
Stephanie brown and Tim Drake are both so forgettable ngl
I think they’ve both died before and it didn’t even make them memorable
Tim faked his death. He doesn’t get it belong in the dead Robin club
Steph wasn’t forgettable if you were a teen girl in 2010 and imprinted on her Batgirl run that got canceled for the New52
But they haven’t used her much at all since 2011
Teen girl comic fan is a special hell
You get nothing! Nothing!!!
Perusing ao3 for your fix
Tragic
Tim is just “competent techbro Robin” which is better than nothing but Steph’s personality is just “that girl”
Tim is mostly memorable since he was the Robin in the 90s-00s animated franchise
you've got the late-teens Nightwing, and you have the younger Tim, I don't know if Jason was depicted in any adaptation before Red Hood?
Yeah interest in Jason is really more recent
most animated dc shows with a robin are no recognizably a single robin tbh
generally it's some combination of the first three unless nightwing is also a character
me but with transformers
Hey, I finally watched the new Fantastic Four movie yesterday
Looks life F4 actually finally got a pretty decent movie
Yeah. It’s a really solid origin movie with good building of the characters and their status quo.
FF FS ||Not to mention I found myself totally agreeing with Johnny's take on Silver Surfer.
||
is it really an origin movie when they've been established for a couple years or something?
FF FS ||I really like what they did with Sue to make her a Future Foundation leader and stuff. Really gives her a lot to work with (while stuff being the “mother” of the family).||
I think it is because it sets up their role as a family
They are very cute to ME damnit!!
Jason is really coasting off his one Under the Red Hood film appearance
DC’s biggest mistake was bringing Jason back
Should have let Jason stay dead and have him be a constant reminder of Bruce’s biggest failure
It would reduce the apocalyptically high number of robins
Duke?
sure
I don’t think the story they went with undermines that
If anything I think this failure would bother him more
this so much
What does Duke even do 😭 i feel so bad because in my head hes just the black one 💀
I think the reason I strongly disagree with that is just, resurrections are just kind of a comic book trope, and I kinda hate the idea that you're allowed to resurrect main characters but never supporting characters
Real
Jensen ackles really invented that character
I sort of look at it as an all or nothing thing, and that 'Jason shouldn't have come back' is the same to me as "Superman should have been done for good in 1990"
He shows up for the college website photos
Duke is a very active part of the Batman webtoon
Him and Steph have probably made more appearances there than anywhere else in comics for over a decade
Correct
Just wait though, in 15-20 years there will be young comic book writers whose idea of the Correct Comic Status Quo To Maintain is the webtoon
Well uhhh… he’s black and he’s there occasionally
He hasn’t gotten a lot of characterization
I feel like Duke exists because someone said “hey let’s include a black guy in the batfamily” and then uhhh
Didn’t do anything else
That happens so ridiculously often all I can do is 😑
Also Red Hood is a really interesting premise, they just don’t do anything meaningful with it because they insist on making him part of the Batfam
When he shouldn’t be!
He should be an antagonist
He should not be eating turkey with them on thanksgiving
"it is a really interesting premise" is basically all most comic stories get to

Having Jason Todd alive and openly against Batman’s methods is a really compelling challenging and brings in some interesting themes
i agree! we have one story where this happens
This is more than most comic characters get
Also HUSH was also apparently pretty good
Ahh I haven't seen that one (the animated movie)
jason isnt in that lmao
Okay it was initially supposed to be him
That counts
no its doesnt?
Half marks
i know jason fans are starving but have standards
😭
I also don't think you'd need more than one great story to justify a twist in comics, even if nothing else interesting comes of it
and to be honest I don't read enough comics to weigh in on whether that applies here
all I can say is that the movie version was great and I'm glad they made it
So ive heard!
I had a phase where I just watched DCAU movies all the time
My favorite was judas contract though because of course it was
You’ve seen the Judas Contract dcau movie but you haven’t seen the only one I’d consider mainstream?
I reallly like teen titans 🤣
Some cute art by Jason Badower
Saw the leaked Avengers: Doomsday trailer
Is this the trailer or one of the teasers?
AFAIK the only 'leak' was the teaser
Yeah actually I guess it was more of a teaser
All time. No. A very good actor with plenty of great roles absolutely.
did it leak? what movie is it attatched to?
the (first) teaser from Avatar 3 has been posted by many people
I don’t think there is such a thing as greatest actor of all time, it’s far too subjective, and he doesn’t need to have lived any longer to have been some people’s favorite
He already is
Were so back!

Yep
List that hasn’t aged well
1970
That makes sense then
It’s a list of men that male college students at Made Up College most want to be
There's a couple names on the list tho that I dont know
There’s also a list for the female college
Mickey Mantle and Bill Russel are professional atheles, and Charles Lindbergh was a 1920s aviator
also a famous fan of 1930s germany
he flew across the atlantic
Yes, he was also a Nazi sympathizer. And his child’s kidnapping was the first thing to be called “the crime of the century”
yeah I guess he was also a fan of early 1940s germany
What about numbers 3, 4, 6 from this list
Coretta King was a civil rights icon
wife of Martin Luther King Jr
other two are actors
Sophia Loren and Greta Garbo areactress from the golden age of Hollywood
Kinda an odd pull for a 1970s comic, since it had been several decades. Sort of like saying that the most popular actress of today is someone who was most active in the 1970s
I dunno, every woman wants to be Nichel Nichols, who played Uhura on Star Trek
I imagine the author/artist grew up when they were popular
Probably, yes
they also have Mickey Mantle on the list and he definitely wouldn't be a top choice in the 1970s

watched whats out of fallout s2
one of the tv shows
that has existed
(it was bad)
Bill Russell however was awesome until the end
Why on earth is the F1 movie 2:41 long
SMH guess I’ll find something else to watch to it that won’t have me up until 2 am
ITS ALMOST 3 HRS??? 😭
its worth it
watch Locke
or Coherence
or Primer
or Robocop
all < 1:30 min
and vvvv good
I swear every big movie seems to be 2.40+ these days 😭
-# yes, that is probably an exaggeration
ST s4 final ep is about as long
2 hr 30 min -ish
Wasn't each ST 4 episode like... >1hour
yes
coherence is a movie thats much shorter
and soooo good
watch it endnight
go in blind
I don't think I have time right now but I'll maybe try it later on 😅
Honestly I kinda respect it. For a streaming show you can and should make episodes as long as they need to be since they don’t need to fit a network TV schedule
I really don't respect that
I watch TV episode cuz I don't have time for movie
and I watch anime episode cuz I don't have time for 45min-hour long western tv episode
if it was consistent, then it would be a different thing
if the previous seasons have at max hour long episode, and the next season's shortest episode is longer than the previous season's longest ep
and 3 eps in total is like 6 hours
I definitely prefer shorter episodes but I trust some shows to do long ones
I just think that if you’re gonna do anything over 47 min you gotta have pacing nailed and uh often streamers don’t
for me, even if the pacing was nailed, i would rather them break it into different episodes
netflix doesn't have restriction of weekly wait like tv
and don't really need the "episodic cliffhanger"
only seasonal one
Season 2 of Fallout is HERE! hehehe
fallout s2 e1 ||big iron on his hip! me want to replay new vegas again||

Stranger Things S5E2 ||I'll take obvious plot twists for 5, ALex. Wow, Mr Whatsit was Vecna? I never could have seen it coming. It's not like that was my literal first thought||
||for me, it seemed too obvious and I psyched myself out trying to figure out what else it could be.||
||I watched episode 1 and was like "Oh it's Vecna talking to her", then episode 2 they started talking like it was someone else and I was like "Oh, it's not him? Then who the hell is it" and then at the end it's just Vecna lmao||
Stranger Things 5 episode 3 end ||I called that it was Max just a few seconds before the reveal. Of course her mind is still in the Upside Down. Well, really cool that Vecna's got a spanner in his works that no one knew about.||

Just out of curiosity, did anyone else think that Batman Begins was actually a better movie than The Dark Knight? Or if not ‘better’ then at least more enjoyable? Or is it just me?
I am very much in the minority here but I think Batman Begins is the best movie out of the Nolan trilogy
There’s no need to fight. They are all:
Maybe I need to watch them again since I haven't since I was like 16, but honestly I was never all that impressed by the Nolan trilogy. None of the characters are super compelling to me, and the conflicts never really stood out to me that much
I'm a battinson ride or die instead lol
I’d say it’s worth the rewatch. Nolan hides double (sometimes even triple) meanings in every scene you miss on your first watch
-# me who hasnt seen any of them: 🫣

Do it!
Show him some of the animated DC movies
rises is probably nolans worst film tbh its so bad
Couldn’t physically have a more wrong take lol.
||The talia twist is so dumb, the stock heist is dumb||
TDKR is definitely the weakest of the trilogy but I wouldn’t call it a bad movie outright
||the stock market heist was dumb though||

We're watching the Christmas episode rn, lowkey one of my favorite episodes of tv ever
There's some odd changes to S2 of Percy Jackson so far. I wonder why they decided to change what they did
||It's super weird that they had Annabeth be an official member of the quest, and then they had her get on the boat anyway||
I haven’t watched it yet, but Rick talked about some changes on the interview with The Newest Olympian. Mostly the general philosophy of them
Ahem...
✨ OooOOoo Cosmic I'm a little fairy on your shoulder telling you to watch the Dark Knight Trilogy OOooOoo ✨
I've also been meaning to watch those...
We finally got Cosmic to watch one of the things we keep reccing lol

Watched Pluribus episode 8
Probably my favorite episode, lotta thoughts
||The way Zosia initially had trouble saying “I” instead of “We” or “She” when talking about Zosia but as she got into that story from Zosia’s childhood she started using I naturally is… interesting. It could be that the Hive is getting better at acting, or maybe telling that personal story did actually pull Zosia’s real personality out of the Hivemind soup a bit.||
||I do like the idea of teaching the Hive Mind individuality, kinda opens the door for more interesting possibilities than just that either we save humanity from the Hivemind or they win. Something where the joining is still in play but is more like… a baseline telepathic empathy rather than something that effectively enslaved you might be nice.||
||Also when Zosia says “We are so excited to have something new to read” that made me realize… they can’t have new books. Even if they were to have Sanderson just churning out new Cosmere books, everyone in the Hive already knows everything Sanderson had planned for the Cosmere and what Sanderson is currently writing, so it’s not really a “new” book. The remaining unjoined humans are literally the only people who can give them new experiences. Which might actually create an interesting dilemma for them, they do enjoy having unjoined humans around but are also driven to convert them all. Maybe the Hive wants to convert Carol but Zosia has gained enough agency to disagree with the Hive and helps Carol out in some way by telling her about the Hive using her eggs to “fix” her and convert her or whatever.||
||And I think Carol’s attitude of “I know you’re are manipulating me and I hate that I’m so lonely and horny that I can’t resist it” is really compelling. It’s not at all rational but no sane person would behave rationally in this situation.||
||Might make it kinda awkward when Manousos arrives to help save the world only to find Carol literally in bed with the enemy.||
I am liking it more than S1. I think the changes are much stronger this season. Also I think it just generally looks better.
I personally really like that change as it S2:2 ||makes sense that Clarisse would pick someone who has been on a quest before, particularly if the fate of the camp is at stake. I also like that despite her and Percy not being able to stand each other, she was going to pick him also because it would make sense to pick the son of Poseidon to go on a quest to the SEA of Monsters.||
That second part was a nice touch

Marvel Studios has updated the ‘AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY’ trailer with built in clapping and cheering audio following reports of low audience engagement.
“We need to remind the audience how to feel again.”
(via: https://t.co/HpSjeZNYYd)
...i'm sorry, is the audience supposed to cheer and clap at a trailer?
Clapping and cheering at a movie theater at all feels weird to me, clapping and cheering at a trailer feels absurd
Unless the actual actors themselves are in the theater with you, clapping is exceptionally dumb
also, "we need to remind the audience how to feel again" feels like the sort of self-important line than an exec convinced he was saving cinema would say
This is incredibly cringe
This is a satire post
Did you guys actually think this was real? Are you all okay?
(Also people actually are cheering at the trailer apparently, so make of that what you will)
look, have you seen the state of corporate executives recently
this is not outside of the realm of plausibility
Editing clapping into a trailer is extremely outside the realm of possibility imo
again, this sounds like the sort of idea that would be born in an executives' meeting and pushed to implementation by someonen out of touch with reality
It sounds like the kind of cringe thing that would actually happen lmao
Idk, I’m just concerned about how many people here believed an obvious lie because one tweet said it was true
I would have believed this over RDJ as Doom. Weirder things have happened
Im also not on twitter anymore so i dont have the meme account memorized
Luckily i just dont read any tweets shared here
it was presented without comment, so i assumed it was genuine 🤷
and as we've just discussed, the lie was not as obvious as you made it out to be
Oh I’m stupid
I literally could not disagree more but whatever
My dad: we watched the new knife show on Netflix
Me: ?
My dad: With Daniel Craig
Me: oh! You mean the new Knives Out movie
I mean, laugh tracks were a thing for decades
And at quasi-live shows like late-night they literally do have big ol APPLAUSE signs for the live audience
Does not strike me as remotely implausible, just Not The Done Thing right now
Honestly? This strikes me as the kind of post that would make its way across some corpo's desk and they'd treat it as a sincere and good idea
Wholly blind to the irony or satire of it all
I could actually see a company doing this for a full movie
I can't, but only because I see it playing very badly in showings with <20 people and that is a question that would get asked
do not look up sitcom
Wait, did they stop doing laugh tracks!?
Started getting phased out in the 2010s
Oh nice
In large part because sitcoms are getting phased out
Also, really sorry, I should have prefaced this, this is a parody account that posted this
This is not real
I think they didnt work well with streaming either
Or sharing clips on social
eh its more like office didnt have a laugh track
Avatar Fire and Ash review:
Good
I'm not entirely certain if I want to go or not, just because I don't honestly remember the first two, like, at all
like the most basic of vibes or a couple set pieces
As a regular champion of the idea that people can figure out what's going on halfway into a series, I think you'd be ok. But the first two are definitely helpful and worth watching
I can see it
And sometimes i like casting lesser known actors in roles like this
It is genuinely nice to see the art of casting relatively unknown actors in big roles is not dead

I just wish the rest of the world's industries still did stuff like that
So many industries are becoming devoid of poeple being able to be bad or new at a thing for a while and learn
I love that answer so much
bothers me how jeremy renner was mentioned by name in one of the previous movies but hes plays a character in wake up dead man
I wish there was an app to talk about this
rian johnson mentions it in a youtube video doing a scene break down
what's he going to do, refuse to hire renner
'Knives Out' director Rian Johnson takes us through the investigation scene where Father Jud is being brought along by Detective Benoit Blanc, accompanied by the local chief of police Geraldine. Johnson explains all of the different quirks Daniel Craig, Josh O'Connor, and the rest of the cast brought to their performances and how this scene set ...
Yes
I think it’s funny and matches the tone of the knives out world. glass onion || I mean they burned the Mona Lisa last film ||
Take a look at the page for Celebrity Paradox on TV Tropes, this happens all the time
not for this reason
i said it like that because it was obviously ridiculous
gotta check that out, i loved the Knives Out vanity fair one
My only WUDM complaint re: Renner is ||Renner is genuinely very funny and he just didn't get to be that in this movie||
WUDM || Idk if it’s a complaint for me because I think the movie is different than the others structurally but it felt like a lot of the supporting cast was just there. Like Kerry Washington… smoked for most of her part ||
I do mean "complaint" in the absolutely mildest sense of the term
Oh I was saying my hang up on the movie with complaint
There
My bad
Was agreeing with you
I really liked WUDM but personally enjoyed the more lighthearted tone in knives out and glass onion
Glass onion is my favorite in part because of the comedy
All knives out || yeah I think 3 was like a good movie. But the amount of like “Daniel Craig just vibing and being hilarious” was lower||
i think WUDM is currently my favourite, i like what it did more
glass onion is so so 2022 tbh
That was definitely really obvious at the beginning but I feel like it kinda faded away after the first 20 min or so and I forgot about it honestly
Dated for sure though
Glass Onion general ||The fact that it takes place during the COVID-19 pandemic just makes it feel more real to me. More... personalized, I guess? Idk, it's just interesting to me to see fictional media represent an event so significant but also so recent.||
I really like all three of them for different reasons. Knives out for the mystery, Glass Onion for the comedy, and Wake up Dead Man for the themes.
It is going to be very interesting in like 5-10 years to look back on media that was made during COVID
Do wonder what version of Brainiac they’ll go for
I’d like a mix of his Colu origin from the comics and the AI origin from the animated series tbh
Supergirl cw tv show: features brainiac as a prominent character for several seasons
Supergirl movies: features brainiac as the main antagonist
I see what you’re about, James…
Brainiac won’t be the antagonist of Supergirl tho
He’s not even gonna be in the movie
Maybe a tease at the end but I doubt that
We all know gunn is making braniac an ai allegory
He's the antagonist for the Superman sort of sequel, that might have supergirl in it
The supergirl movie is adapting a comic he's not in
How does casting factor into that
He’s gonna be in Man of Tomorrow, the Superman sequel but not really sequel
Oh
The basic premise is that Lex and Supes are gonna have to team up against Brainiac
It is like genuinely crazy that Brainiac is going to be on the big screen for the first time ever
Can’t believe I’m actually gonna see that in my lifetime
Theyre all jealous of him, duh
they are taking the kill the justice league version trust
Personally I’d like them to go with the STAS version where he’s from Krypton
lego batman 3 version
I’ve always loved the AI Brainiac
And I love him being tied to Krypton’s destruction
In the mood to watch Daria from start to finish ngl
Watched it in middle school and latched on to her hard (because of course I did) and it was a big comfort show back in the day
Glass Onion is the most specifically set of them, being set in May 2020. Knives Out has to be set post-2016 based on how Meg and Jaden act and pre-2020 because there’s no pandemic, but is kind of flexible within that range. I see WUDM as again trying to be a little more flexible, perhaps even implying with Blanc’s career trajectory and changed attitude that it takes place after its own release. It could be 2022-2025 or even a few years beyond.
Yeah Glass Onions pandemic setting is very clear, not 2022 or even really 2021
Absolutely meant to be summer or fall 2020. No vaccine yet, but not spring (March-May) because the rich people are too relaxed about the risks of getting COVID
Everyone was super freaked out those first few months, even people who later demanded an end to pandemic restrictions
It cant be winter because of the way everyone is dressed for warm weather boarding the boat to the island. So it has to be summer or early fall of 2020
wikipedia clearly states May which leads me to believe there’s some specific identification i’ve forgotten
i’ve always read the characters’ flippantness as characterization
||like, even among the rich people. these guys are stupid and careless||
Have you not read the news in recent years?
Or even recent weeks
Fallout s2 ep 1 was good
A really quality show with some really strange writing moments
Fallout s1 ||drop the bombs to make money makes so little sense to me i am sure there is a twist||
||not every rich person is Elon Musk or Sam Altman. you have some Bill Gateses and Warren Buffets in there. i mean to say that the characters in Glass Onion are, among rich people, on the Elon end of tbe sprectrum||
|| okay I just miss read you that makes more sense||
Peak just dropped https://youtu.be/bTxIMbfEAuM?si=uiENjLYob6IbLhL-

One of my favorite comic YouTubers

deep breath
Okay
I'm gonna watch Terrifier 3
Merry Christmas to me
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i already dont like how this movie is startiiiiiiiiiiiiiing
||Please do not hurt or traumatize this little girl I do not want that||
Instantly deeply upsetting movie
I love Art the Clown so god damn much, this scene is so god damn funny
Terrifier 3 ||"My mother was the sweetest person"
NO SHE WASN'T?! She was a TERRIBLE person lmao||
||Art giving a kid a giftwrapped bomb in the middle of a shopping mall|| is probably one of the most deeply upsetting deaths in this series despite being comparatively less brutal
It comes and goes incredibly fast compared to a lot of the other deaths in this series, but the simple and quick brutality of it is what sticks out
Wake Up Dead Man ||if she says it to Jud then I think shes trying to throw off the scent by alluding to him killing a man. I don't think she meant the capital O Original Sin||
Really liked it, Josh O'Connor was great
Terrifier 3 ||I do think I like this movie more than 2 so far, because 2's entire goal was to push the envelope, and it did that, but I think it took too long
In this movie, there's a lot more downtime between kills, and the kills so far have taken a lot less time
So you're not jumping from one excessively stretched out kill to another every four minutes
There's enough time between them, and he takes a long time to start killing||
WUDM ||and visually it was very fun as well, I appreciated how unsubtle the lighting was in various scenes. The standout example of course being Juds phone call with Louise. I think the movie had a really good balance of character work and mystery||
It's real.good
Finished Terrifier 3. Good movie, best of the three for sure
Just watched WUDM with my fam (minus Mom, because she isn't really into murder things), that was...really good
I did miss more of Blanc being silly. Dad hasn't seen either of the other films
||we all had the, "wait is this Chimney Rock, North Carolina? No, somewhere in New York I guess" thought||
WUDM, Agatha Christie ||I also wondered if it was going to be like an And Then There Were None situation where the suspects drop one by one||
It does occur to me that WUDM is a liiiiiiiiiiiitle unusual for a Benoit Blanc movie but also I think a lot closer to what I expected going into Knives Out from Rian Johnson
WUDM, Benoit Blanc films ||yeah, I feel like in the other two the Woobie falsely accused is more of a passenger along for the ride with BB, but here it very much was around Father Jud and what church should/should not be||
Just started Our Flag Means Death with my bsf and it's a good thing we got four episodes in because otherwise I don't know that I would have kept going 😅
I'm invested now though
||like Benoit was really in the backseat, and even for the confession he gestures for Jud to do his job||
||I think the Woobie in Glass Onion is one of the weak points of that movie, we never really get to know Andi and the film is ostensibly about her. Knives Out relies on Marta being a good nurse, and that's not a terribly hard sell. WUDM relies on Jud being a good priest and in 2025 being a good Catholic priest in particular is a hard sell, we need to see him good priesting throughout the film to really believe it I think||
I also just watched WUDM! Liked it a lot!
WUDM ||definitely a lot more serious than the first two, but I think it worked. I enjoyed these characters and liked getting a little more in-depth with Benoit himself as a character. I feel like the lawyer woman had a little less going on than the rest but the rest of the cast was good. The mystery was pretty solid imo, even if it was not the most unpredictable.||
||we did all think Martha would be the killer from the moment she stepped on-screen but then we ran through like 10 other theories before the film ended.||
my only problem with WUDM was ||the alrger cast beyond benoit and jud and whatshisface grifter that was the head of the church||
||yeah they definitely weren't as good as the other movies, but I feel like we got enough to get a sense of each of them at least||
||I immediatlly guessed dr nat because its always the marvel actor in knives out, wish i had an app to discuss renners role in WUDM||
unironically i think jeremy renners the actor i can take the least seriously somehow
WUMD ||i had a feeling it was martha - she was just TOO over the top... i knew she was putting it on. i didn't guess HOW involved, only that she was. that was satisfying||
Knives Out trilogy all ||the fact that there were multiple Marvel actors in this movie made that guessing game fun before the movie came out and we knew what all their roles were. Fun fact, Glenn Close was also in Guardians of the Galaxy so the rule applies to her too||
WUDM || It makes sense because they are all part of a cult leaded by Brolin, and the natural end of that cult of personality is loss of your own personality ||
My main issue is || They didn't name drop the movie. They had done that in both entries... ||
||someone knocks on the tomb.
"Wake up, dead man!"||
For me personally, I think having all of the demon stuff be completely hidden from everyone other than the three girls was a slight flaw in the movie. Bobby at the very least could have known what was going on
I just don't think anything was added by having it be a secret
KDH ||it wasn't hidden, in the first 10 minutes there's a demon sitting in the crowd and someone compliments it's costume||
||That's what I mean though. I don't understand what is added to the story by everyone thinking the demons are just people in costumes or special effects||
KDH ||it does change the vibe of the story a LOT if the world around them knows they're fighting demons instead of knowing them primarily as pop stars. stories about fighting evil In Secret are a trope for a reason||
||it's a VERY different type of story||
||i think it plays into the idea of hiding your true self, and avoids a lot of the complicated questions around how people feel about demons||
||and like, if people knew for a fact that they were responsible for singlehandidly protecting the world from soul devouring demons then the saja boy's plan wouldn't make any sense. The hidden nature of the conflict is essential for the plot||
||But why wasn't Bobby allowed to know?||
||If you are trying to hide something, you should tell only the people who absolutely have to know||
Our Flag Means Death 5 ||this show is gayyyyyyyyyyy.
Seriously though the mix of lightheartedness and really heavy topics is a super interesting choice and I think they've got a pretty good balance going.||
I keep forgetting that I want to watch that show
Every time I finish a show I just forget that I want to watch that one next
The Odyssey - In Theaters 07.17.26
Christopher Nolan’s next film, The Odyssey, is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX® film technology. The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to IMAX® film screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026.
The Odyssey stars Matt Damon, Tom Hollan...
What's the over/under on Nolan shadow dropping The Illiad two weeks before?
Post credits scene where Achilles comes out of the shadows and talks to Odysseus about forming a team
The guy who played Leonidas from 300 is with him as well
Can’t wait for Red Circle Red Arrow thumbnails saying ,”Aeneid sequel confirmed???”
Not sure if this will be in the movie but Achilles does appear in the Iliad as a ghost
"Top ten things you missed from The Odyssey Trailer!
Number ten, if you look closely you'll see the soldiers are actually hidden inside the wooden horse left for th Trojans."
So is Punisher
In the Christopher Nolan odyssey movie??? Wow!
Funny you should say that, my mom said she thinks Gerard Butler would have been a better fit for Odysseus.
I mean, you joke, but aren't the Argonauts and the Iliad/Odyssey basically the GMCU?
I feel like Matt Damon can fit the mold of "tricky little bugger who is probably fibbing a good deal of this story" well enough
uhhh this could also go in #academia but Mania For Subjugation Part 3 just released and I am soooo excited
(Hardcore History on Alexander the Great btw)
And we got some PJO casting! I need to find the Twitter post so it actually embeds properly.
A little gift from the casting gods for Season 3 of #PercyJackson and the Olympians.
︀︀
︀︀🏹 Holt McCallany is Atlas
︀︀🏹 David Costabile is Dr. Thorn
︀︀🏹 Jesse L. Martin is Frederick Chase
THIS IS SO GOOD
Do they all have to touch their faces for their parts or
hahaha
Yeah, that's related to The Mist iirc
Haven't seen PJO but Jesse L Martin is an absolute W
I loved him in The Flash and I liked him a lot in Law and Order
This looks a lot better than a lot of the photos I've seen from the movie did
I'm more interested in the movie now
Nitter
Nolan fanboys wont care but The Odyssey is going to be an ahistorical mess. First of all, Matt Damon wasn’t even alive back then
Did you not read the damoeid? /j
Entertainment Weekly photos and the like almost always are set photos that dont go through the color grading and such that the theatrical version gets
Watched The Amazing Digital Circus today! I liked it!
TADC 1 ||My favorite is Bubble, and I was kinda like "hm it's nice but where's the vibe?" And then the theme played while they had dinner zooming in on pomni and it was SO GOOD||
||also I hope there's more bubble i love bubble||
||Bubble is definitely top tier||
||i wanna make a bubble quote joke but i for the life of me cant remember which line is in which ep||
im excited for you to see more of the show :)
Me too! I've heard good things and it's just the right amount of Turn Your Brain Off and Pay Attention, just what I need to do my hair 🥰
Damn y’all my gf and I are watching Bluevatar: Book 1 Air and it’s wild both discovering this came out 16 years ago and that the CGI is really showing its age quite a bit at times. We’ve come a fair bit further than I had thought since then
It was right when 3d was getting super popular and forced
There's some very cringe effects that exist just for 3d
Me when someone makes an off handed comment about the “missing Kryptonian city of Kandor” in Supergirl:
Our Flag Means Death 9 ||omg they de-bearded my blackbeard.
Also they are really taking their time with this romance.||
||I say that and then they kiss
||
10 ||WHY DID HE GO BACK?!?
I WANNA SLAP HIM SO BAD||
That explains a lot. Like the movie generally didn’t look too bad a lot of the time but it had really bad looking moments.
Honestly, was a fun watch still. Cool to see high budget fantastical worlds
My gf and I were talking about going to see the third movie tonight but I didn’t realize she hadn’t seen the first. And neither of us have seen the second.
Sooo… we’ll see about that. That’s like 7 hours of movie watching
Started watching Wakfu s4 and I do not remember a THING about this show omg
I held off because I thought it was gonna be in French but it's not??? Everyone sounds the same and suddenly I was 16 again 😭
I might have to rewatch s3 again but eh, I never do that 😂
Same, but my surprise is because I didn't know/remember they were doing another nother remake/reboot
This is the "the gaang are grown ups now" thing, right?
Avatar as a franchise is in such a weird spot
I don't blame you for not remembering because they're doing like 8 things at once 😭
If i was in charge i would have on the board in big sharpie NO AANG STORIES
The LA show, the seven havens thing, the adult gaang movie.... anything else??
I do agree we need to move on from aang
Mhm, I forgot about both of them 😭
(I am so Cyberpunk-pilled that I had to make sure I wasn't mixing up Kiyoshi and Kiroshi)
Kyoshi?
Is that how its spelled?
I did know that
Favorite cabbage merchant in Ba Sing Se etc etc etc
She also voices Jun the bounty hunter
It holds up!
Oh I know it does! Maybe I could be a good person and rewatch korra too... its been like 10 years since I've touched it
Isnt there a sequel series coming out at some point
Yeah, seven havens!
I am VERY hyped about it!
If anything just to see how they're gonna deal with (korra) ||korra being the ONLY avatar 😂||
My sister has rewatched all of AtLA and TLoK in the past month or so, and right after finishing TLoK, she immediately went back to start AtLA from the start again.
i think 5 is an overestimate...
No no you all are underestimating the amount of 50+ year olds who love their various NCIS
-# im more of a csi Miami girl myself
Unfortunately they sometimes put football games on there
CSI Miami kinda rocks ngl
HORATIO my GOAT 🗣🗣🗣
Gneiss you are once again proving you have taste
That’s so ass ):
YOU will return in Avengers: Doomsday
No I won't
I can't believe it's been 5 hours and I've only just found out about the trailer

At least having it in HD is epic
“No where are you guys going?? Why’s your interest in the MCU dropping?? WAIT, HERES THE KEYS JINGLING, YOU MEMBER THIS CHARACTER?? JINGLE JANGLE, KEEP LOOKING AT THE KEYS”
it's still going to make ridiculous numbers
I must say I'm really interested in why RDJ and Chris Evans are coming back (besides the obvious reason of money).
The mcu is best as a hype slop fest and im half they are returning to that
theres another reason?
I feel they could tell a really good story
The reputation of the Russo brothers gives me that hope
Russos have a good track record with Steve specifically so I think his role could actually work
RDJ as Doom though? Even if the movie turns out amazing I still won’t be on board with that
it's just mega regression when the main points of your movie are going to be Chris evans and RDJ yet again, it's a waste of other characters
should've leaned into the bit and cast Chris Evans as a completely new character
It’ll still somehow make more than any DC movie combined
Sometimes I hate being a DC fan
But atleast the future is looking good
What the hell. I just saw a video talking about how they had plans for a film trilogy but it depended on this breaking even.
What are they thinking
I wonder if they’re intentionally doing this so they can shut down avatar studios?
That or they think this is the only way anyone will pay for paramount+
Especially with rumours that ||Thor|| is the second trailer focus character. This literally could've been marketed immediately after endgame and it would be the same. ||None of the new characters are the focus of the promo, it's just the two Chris's and RDJ||
I'm glad dune 3 is coming out on the same day as doomsday so I have an excuse not to see doomsday
Billions must watch Dune 3 instead of Doomsday
Billions must watch Supergirl instead of Doomsday
Let the executives know what real cinema looks like
Honestly I've been a defender of mcu phase 4&5 but everything we know about doomsday so far has really soured the mcu for me
Casually ignoring the past 5 years of MCU content to just nostalgia bait is certainly a choice
I don't even mind some people returning but I wish they were focusing more of the marketing on, yknow, the characters this saga is supposedly about and less on nostalgia
who is this saga supposed to be about, at this point?
i will say, inasmuch as we rag on the way they're nostalgiabaiting with the old MCU stuff, at least with the old MCU, it was clear who the main characters were
i feel like i've completely lost track of who the focus is now
I mean, that's why I'm disappointed that they aren't using the new characters here
It's not 100% clear who the "main" new cast is, but I feel like this movie is a chance for them to tie it together and make it all a bit more coherent
But it feels like, rather than trying to make it all work, they've just given up and gone back to the old stuff
And we do have ~three important superteams set up by the recent movies, I do think you could easily center the movie/promo on them
MCU ||the new avengers, the fantastic 4, and Sam's avengers that he was talking about forming||
And don't forget [MCU] ||The Young Avengers that Ms. Marvel wanted to make.
I want more of them.||
Um... what
So, just screw phases 4 and 5 and pick up right after the end of Endgame? This is definitely a very odd choice for a first trailer.
They only released this because of the leak the other day
I mean sure but thats not my problem
It got leaked because it was marketing they were doing, it just wasnt up officially online
Its not like someone leaked the Sam Wilson trailer and so they pivoted the marketing
I saw someone recently (I think it was Paul Tassi?) making the claim that this has been among the worst managed ad cycles they'd ever seen and I think there's a really good case for that
Its been horrendous, top to bottom
I get that some has been the whole Majors pivot, but that isn't a great excuse especially when you have Disney/Marvel money to throw at solving that problem
The issue with 4 and 5 is that they dont really build into anything
There is no obvious character to bring into the next avengers as an iconic piece
Esp with spiderman getting reset
Meanwhile me, just happy that i liked BP 2: 🥴
I think a good part of the reality of this is they really lucked out with RDJ as Iron Man in particular and seem pretty clueless on how to replicate that success
Meanwhile, me just excited for the future of the DCU:
I think even with the issues they've had, they could have run with Strange or Shang Chi and they just... didn't do that
Shang chi would have been cool :/
Strange 2 was (apparently) bad and shang chi does nothing to put him at the forefront of the mcu
Unfathomable to me that Shang Chi never got so much as a sequel
Never got the chance! For reasons I'm not terribly clear on
Shang chi is a story that happened. It has like one of the three good fight scenes in the mcu tho so ill give it that
Good actor, good excuse for baller scenes. Not sure why they botched that
Was the Marvels even watchable
No idea, I just assumed it was ass because everyone said it was 😭
Haven't heard that it was, yeah
There is a ||CATS musical sequence that I adore||, and Imani Vellani is so charming
Strange 2 being bad is an incredible own goal
It did feel like a bunch of plot elements taped together, though, Marvels
It directly conflicts with WandaVision in some important ways, which is part of why it was so bad, and Elizabeth Olson says she tried to raise the alarm but the movie people couldn't be bothered to read the WandaVision script and the WandaVision people weren't allowed to read the Strange 2 script
Love and thunder and the ant man movie coming out within like 6 months of each other was a good warning sign of the quality to expect
it's weird because i feel like every time strange shows up in someone else's movie he generally steals the scene and is fun to watch
Its been really rough ever since the movies got to the comic characters the comics cant do right
He has a short half life as a bit
Wanda upstages Strange in his own movie in a way that has no upside
His character really stagnated at benevolent asshat
A second character stealing the spotlight isn't something Marvel's exactly a stranger to, and sometimes it works, it was just such a disaster here
I wish Raimi could've gotten weirder
By all accounts it was the movie Raimi wanted to make
I’ve been saying that those two movies releasing back to back were the hit to the jugular for the MCU
It hasn’t recovered since then
Love and thunder is unwatchable
I was shocked by how bad Love and Thunder was after I liked Ragnarok so much
Matt damon acting bad was acting better than the main cast
Its like it hit the worst possible combination of still being a Taika Waititi film while being different in every possible way from Ragnarok given that constraint
I feel like Taika Waititi got a bunch of hype after Ragnarok for being a genuinely creative director doing an MCU movie
But I feel like at this point I'm not actually sure I like him as a director
Wait why did I react same to kon-tiki
I haven't seen love and thunder 💀

I have no strong feelings on him as a director except that I think he was absolutely the right man for Ragnarok and probably shouldn't have come back for a second bite at the apple
That, and Marvel took absolutely the worst lessons from Ragnarok's success (to include making Thor comic relief and only comic relief)
Y’know what was peak: F4
I am a bit worried for Doomsday but I don’t think the new trailer confirms definitively Cap is the MC, which would be bad.
So I’m cautiously optimistic. I’m excited, but… yeah.
Which is such a messy conclusion because half the reason he was good in Ragnarok was that he had genuinely great badass action scenes
I think the only taika waititi film ive seen is jojo rabbit
They nailed superhero action in a way I'm not sure I've seen done in any of the other movied
Which i liked a lot
To commit word crimes, it was a comedy with a punchline
This is just a guess but I kind of get the impression that Guardians of the Galaxy and Ragnarok shared enough DNA that they were thinking about making that the "house style" even in places where it didn't make sense to do so
Which itself was such an odd choice because they were already pretty cemented in a reputation for a kind of quippy humor even when it was out of place, and these movies made it work but doubling down on that franchise-wide should have been an obviously bad idea
I dont think they are really similar beyond the fact that Watiti and Gunn have some similar sensibilities
I do think they picked Watiti because his style was similar to Gunn but they also kept the Russos doing their own thing which I think is the closest to an MCU house style after they dropped Whedon
The hell? This was the first of the teasers that played in front of Avatar, why would a leak have anything to do with that
People were leaking that teaser from the cinemas
So marvel officially released it outside of the Avatar sessions
As is traditional
There is literally zero evidence for this
The evidence is they released it?
When was the last time a teaser or trailer wasn’t put on YouTube?
I mean, they did officially release it. Whether it's because of the leaks or because they planned doing it now
I mean for the fact that the leak affected their decision
There are some comiccon exclusive trailers that were never widely released, precovid i think
It supposedly was going to show for a week before avatar, i don't think that week is over, so it seems like an early release, but it's possible this was always the plan
This is how they have done it for a while. Announce theater exclusive trailers then release them in YouTube once its been a week or so and they've leaked
it was always going to be seen and discussed the instant it dropped
It was discussed a day or two earlier, true, but I can’t imagine that shocked them to the foundation
They definitely planned to release it once its leaked version was saturated enough
Based on everything I’ve heard about the movie, I seriously doubt that Steve is the lead
The goal was just to get extra tickets sold for avatar, once it leaked enough that would stop happening
Officially releasing it once opening weekend is over was not surprising
Also regarding the claim that they’re ignoring everything post-Endgame
The majority of the confirmed cast are people who had major roles after Endgame, with several who are new to the MCU entirely
I do think the closest you get here to "Marvel's hand was forced" is maybe they wanted to release these trailers in a different order that made Cap feel more like icing on a better-established cake than the core of the movie
And the order of operations does matter. But I think in this case its pretty small potatoes
But also 3 of the supposed 4 trailers are focused on pre-endgame characters or rdj
Pretty sure we knew the order of teasers for a while. Week 1 was captain america, next week is thor, then doom
Well then never mind even that
I wouldn't be as irked by the Cap trailer if a f4 or Thunderbolts or young avengers trailer was coming sometime
The rumor I’m hearing now is that ||after Thor is X-Men, then F4 and Wakandans||
But really the promo is cap, Thor, RDJ
If this turns out to be true I will be a bit happier
I suspect the logic might be that the Thunderbolts coming back was set up by their own movie’s ending, so they don’t need a trailer
||but I guess if the F4 are getting a trailer that doesn’t make sense? Idk||
Did Thunderbolts do well enough to justify this assumption?
It was generally viewed as a good movie afaik but I'm not sure if it was a total box office success
Similar to F4FS iirc
Realistically, how much money do you guys think the DCU’s first JL movie will make, especially in this economy with superhero fatigue?
Its too far out to guess
I think that depends on a lot of stuff we can't know
I don't think superhero fatigue or market conditions have anything to do with it, tbh
Like, how far in is it? How established are the characters? How has the dcu been doing? Is it a big event?
I think WB's ownership will be a much more strongly governing factor
Meaning?
Otherwise, Gunn is going to do what he wants to / is allowed to do, and I don't think he's gonna look to The Market to make that decision
Feige says they’re one of the main teams, I’m fairly certain that (Thunderbolts) ||the New Avengers|| will have a major role
Meaning Netflix (or whoever else) may decide to can the project in six months to a year
That would be market conditions
Also Thunderbolts ||the PCS directly set up their role in Doomsday||
Okay so what I'm saying is, I think either it never happens at all or it happens in James Gunn's good timing, and probably no real in between
I don’t know if it’s dumb for me to say this but I have much more faith in DC’s future then Marvel’s future, really the only thing I’m looking forward to in the MCU is the Spider-Man stuff
We arent talking about whether it happens but rather how it performs
I am invested in what the dcu has going in a way I never was with marvel, but I am interested in seeing where the Thunderbolts and spider man go
I read "make" as "take" lmao
Not dumb, although I do think there’s a lot we don’t know and a lot that could change for both franchises
I'm also interested in the supernatural marvel stuff but it doesn't seem like we're touching that for ages
I’m not a big X-Men fan but I’m interested to see what they do with them
Especially with the Thunderbolts director doing them
I have faith in that
My wifey Rogue better be in that movie
I think watching Superman made me realise im maybe just not as much of a marvel fan as I thought I was... 😅
I think this really depends on how much leash Gunn actually does have. He hasn't hit its end yet, but he will eventually, and I think then we'll be able to make much more informed guesses
So, uh, what is doomsday going to be about?
Likely also ||destruction of the multiverse via incursions||
Honestly, not sure if I'm going to bother with it tbh
there have been some good marvel movies like thunderbolts
Shang chi and thunderbolts????
and more decent ones like shang chi and ff
I'll probably watch it on streaming
Closing the multiverse does seem to be something of a mild persistant rumor
are like the only thing you can lead the MCU with
but I feel like there's not enough of an ongoing arc for me to care enough
If I watch doomsday it'll probably be out of... wanting to see if they can pull anything coherent together. Im not super interested in it
I too am on the mildly morbidly curious train
Obviously not, steve rogers and tony stark lmao
i meant phase 4 and 5
I'm just content to mostly be done with marvel unless something is particular good
If I hear it's incredible I'll probably be more likely to miss it xD
endgame wrapped things up in a way that's satisfactory for me
Sam is the obvious choice to lead the MCU
Shang chi would be cool though but he isnt white so disney wont go with that
Shang chi and thunderbolts are individual movies tbh
The only thing in Marvel's future I care remotely about is Daredevil season 2
Season 5?
Ok genuine question: have any phase 4/5 projects actually gotten sequels?
I can't think of any but I'm probably forgetting a lot
Spider-Man: No Way Home is getting one next year
I suppose wandavision and TFAWS did
Have any been good enough to get a sequel
I mean, technically loki got a second season if you want to count that
You could argue brave new world and thunderbolts are sequels I guess
(assuming phase 3 ended with endgame, idr the exact cutoff)
black widow
I disagree with that, personally
What was the sequel? Thunderbolts?
thunderbolts yeah
BNW is also a sequel to a pre-phase 4 project
Fair
I wonder how much deadpool 3 making a morbillion dollars motivated the returns
Thunderbolts to FAWS I think
Was FFH? I thought that was 3
Cap 4?
FFH was technically Phase 3
Realistically I actually don’t think Gunn stays on after they do the first JL movie, and not because he’ll be fired or anything but because he certainly isn’t getting any younger (he’s currently 59, 7 years older than Feige) I think he’ll want to step aside and have someone else do it after laying the foundation
Totally forgot Harrison ford was in the MCU
wasnt far from home after endgame
Yeah but it was considered an epilogue or something
It was but in terms of production timelines and the like it’s still Phase 3
idk dont really remember i really dont like the MCU spiderman other than homecoming
Funny, I never watched homecoming but I saw 2 and 3
I also never watched the Garfield Spider-Man movies
Or Tobey 3 for that matter
NWH is so bad once you remove the nostalgia
the raimi spiderman 2 or far from home
NWH does have an actual theme which is rare for a marvel movie
Yes.
Raimi spiderman 2 is so so good i love it
It’s probably WAT to me in the sense that I enjoyed it but idk if I’m inclined to defend it
I have a couple of problems with NWH but overall I think it did a good job of making the cameos actually fit the plot
i really enjoyed NWH in theaters but when i rewatched it when i got home i didnt like it
NWH is probably a good movie, i am never rewatching it to find out
My guess is the pacing is terrible
Fun fact: he was on the shortlist to play Batman in Tim Burton’s Batman movie
I personally thought NWH was extremely good myself
Here’s Harrison Ford finding out that he was considered for Batman
I remember liking the ways they connected some of the returning characters to the plot/themes/arcs
NWH + Morbius ||them using it to send michael keaton to hell (Sonyverse) was very funny though||
||I’m fairly certain that was entirely a Sony decision. It’s funny that it doesn’t even make any sense with the way the rules were explained in NWH||
||The rules of the movie dont make sense in the movie tbf||
I wish morbius was as bad as the attempts to build a morbius universe
the MCU of b list spiderman villains
NWH + Morbius ||Poor Michael Keaton getting trapped in the Sonyverse forever, I will remember you king||
My instinct is that if Gunn leaves completely, the project probably dies altogether
I know venom isnt a b lister i just wish he was
Hey tbf to sony seeing kraven in an empty cinema was one of the best theatre experiences I've had
There was a kraven movie????
The extent to which it even qualifies as a “Kraven movie” is debatable
I hate that I've forgotten some of the lines
i didnt know lmao i thought madame web flopped so hard they didnt do any other sonyverse stuff
Kraven ||I was out of the cinema at this point but apparently "I prefer kraven. With a K" is an actual line||
Kraven wasn’t that long after, it was already in the works by then
Yes, gave us this gem of a scene https://youtu.be/TvpLCibjEws?si=4ocoh1hjz_QkR_ie
Alessandro Nivola (Amsterdam, Disobedience, The Brutalist) gives out the best (and only fun) performance in J.C. Chandor's 'Kraven the Hunter'. Out now in theatres (and soon to streaming services).
El Muerto though, that was the peak of cinema
Every sonyverse movie has 1 good scene
"Good" sure is a word
Kraven feels like the superhero Minecraft movie
i havent actually watched any of the sony verse tbh
Kraven is white black panther
not even venom because i absolutely despise venom as a character
“Good” isn’t the word, more like “masterpiece”
Morbius is a movie
Venom 3 had a lot of... scenes
I have a very hard time calling unintentionally comedic "good" regardless of circumstances
No black panther has more than one good comic run
Unfortunately the rest of the cinema was taking venom 3 kind of seriously
I mean the movie
oh
How is kraven at all like black panther aside from maybe the fighting style?
