I do too but his criticisms of Sherlock have little or nothing to do with why I watched and enjoyed Sherlock
there is SOME sherlock stuff, like he does actually touch on how bbc sherlock is NOT novel sherlock, and elementary comes closer to the character by far
he DOES go into it!
What do you like in sherlock
bbc sherlock being your basic cumberbatch asshole character instead of what made sherlock holmes the guy he was....
genuine question
Unfortunately it was written by ALW, so it’s fire
I enjoy Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock stuff, I've read it all, but I don't think his mysteries are on the whole nearly as good as Christie's mysteries on their merits as mysteries
I disagree in general
I think they both are in the same tier of quality just different
oh i agree here
but concan doyle is still a great author
you dont basically create an entire genre without being a good writer
hmmm so I guess Love Never Dies is also loosely based on a book called The Phantom of Manhattan which I think is on a similar level to Wicked https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Phantom_of_Manhattan
which reminds me of the MANY many Jane Austen mysteries or whatever where it's like, Jane Bennett and Darcy solving regency era cases and those are published fanfic imo
Quality as books, yes sure. Quality as mysteries, I dunno man Agatha Christie just has it and Sherlock makes up for it in other ways
Absolute gold standard
Doyle is better at looking at the mundane and considering its application as a detective where as I think Cristie is more focused on the structure of the narrative. In this regard her stuff is more inline with the classic who done it that has become the standard in television drama's but i don't think just becuase its priorities are different
Like cirstie will focus on twists and turns in the reveal of information where as I think doyle can make a narritive by doing something very simple and very smart
speaking of murder mysterys is the new knives out good
Like Blue carbunckle is not a classic who done it most of its reveals are done in the first few pages but its a masterclass in mystery writing imo
When I evaluate a mystery I do think of kind of the game of it all
And that's kind of what I mean
Blue Carbuncle is an excellent story that happens to be in the mystery genre but it isn't good at being a mystery's mystery and now that word is starting to sound weird in my head
I just don't think that hard about any mystery and watch them for characters running around more than anything else
there is something to murder mysteries that isn't just the quality of the mystery and how it's constructed and revealed, but also to do with the personality of the detective and how the victims and story and murderer are framed that are all part of the bag, and bbc sherlock fails the rubric on more than one category
My brain is too smooth to actually try to solve the mystery
There are also stories that aren't overtly mysteries that are fairly good at being a mystery, The Sixth Sense comes to mind as kind of meeting that definition
I think thats where ill disagree. Cristie created a framework and alot fo other mysteries use that framework. Doyle doesn't view the world that same way and it makes its distinct in comparison to its peers. The story is about how they solve not the act of solving and I don't think they should be viewed less for it. \
who is the story sympathetic to? who is framed as smart or stupid, clever or foolish, kind or cruel? that changes a great deal. and in bbc sherlock, the answer is "everyone but sherlock is a big dumb idiot including you the person watching" which is like. come on now
I don't really view it lesser when I'm evaluating it on the whole
I'm more differentiating between mystery (genre) and mystery (structure) and Agatha Christie is a master of both
Sherlock fails as a mystery about as much as is possible too
I kind of want to look up if Jane Eyre was still in copyright when Wide Sargasso Sea was written. I doubt it though. Its amazing how that is just so well regarded in the criticism world that it shows up on so many university courses.
you can only really guess based off of mystery tropes
oh right I guess in terms of success, James by Percival Everett won several literary awards, and it's The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn centered around Jim
and wiki says its film rights were bought so that could also be in a movie adaptation of a book reimagining category too
i dont think it counts as fanfic tbh
hm, bc it doesn't come across as necessarily being a fan of the original work, or because it's a reimagining instead of taking Twain's world and doing new stories with it?
i've read actual fanfiction on all the usual websites that do both of those things
it's uhhhh actually really hard to define fanfiction in such a way that doesn't exclude real things posted to ao3
including and excluding on "just vibes" isn't the most convincing thing in the world
because adventures of huckleberry finn is enough of a cultural staple in the west and old enough that it kinda becomes like a cultural work of refference where i dont think it really counts
ao3 isnt just fanfic though
Taking shots at Virgil with both of these questions tbh
the ones i'm referring to even you would agree are fanfiction.
and it's so far the majority on ao3, the distinction is being more than a little facetious
is lets say a modern superman comic a fancomic
i've read one or two meta essays on ao3 which accounts for less than a fraction of a percent of the stuff i read
are we doing this based on your vibes? is this just genre discussion 3.0 with you again?
it's hard to pin it down because, like, I can even think of one or two things that Brandon Sanderson wrote during his professional career, but would certainly be fanfiction (Cosmere & WOT) ||such as the Kelsier & Moiraine scene||
mostly this has been you chipping in to go "that's not fanfic" and honestly, is this worth it? you haven't changed anyone's mind
is this edifying?
no its a question im genuinely asking because like whats the difference between something publishedo n the internet and something published by DC
other than copyright
everyone is also going on their vibes and internal sense of "what counts"
genres i think as a concept are much better to be fluid vibes and spectrums rather than hard and fast lines and rules
Yeah James was a big deal in the past couple of years. Its the last book we'll cover in my American Fiction module
vibes are a part of it for sure, like I'm really inclined to avoid calling legal professional works fanfics, but there are exceptions that make me say it's not so simple
always feels gatekeepery to be like "well this genre is exactly this specific thing and nothing else can be in it and your wrong if you put this thing in that genre bucket"
there are fan writers who get tapped to write official books for the ip they've BEEN writing fanfic for and there is a difference, yeah
we read it for book club earlier this year and loved it, so a couple of us tried to read Huck finn afterwards and we were less enthused (first time read for the retired German in my club)
i've read them talk about the process, mentality, and writing process for the two different types of writing it is
I hated Huck Finn, one of the very few school books I didn’t finish
I couldn’t stand the dialect, everything was so painful to read
oh yeah there are points where things become other things, its just like how sometimes there are distinctions between liquids and gasses and sometimes there isnt
There's a whole subgenre of "works based structurally off The Odyssey specifically and very much in dialogue with that story" that don't feel terribly fanfictiony to me
It works much better as an audiobook
like is madeline miller's Circe technically fanfic? sure
Ranging from The Aeneid to O Brother, Where Art Thou
Does Homer count as mythological fanfic?
(i have not read it but it is in that Odyssey thing)
is it reductive to call it fanfic? depending on the context you talk about in, maybe for fanfic vs reimagining or whatever terminology you prefer
You're stumbling into the "are the written works of Homer a fanfic or adaptation of oral tradition" argument here
Wdym stumbling, I was aiming!
There's a certain kind of academic hardliner that does not consider The Odyssey we have as being any more the "real" Odyssey than the upcoming Christopher Nolan movie
I kind agree with this
tbh
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
ba bam
Since biographies always get things wrong, do they count as RPF?
2069 nice
i have for the longest time tried not to click on ao3
i think its bad for my mental health to dig into that place too much lol
well, better put bad for my ability to succed at life because i might spend too much time reading specific things
I do think modern comics have a uniquely fluid canonicity that is shared between multiple writers and passed down in a succession over time
(and if you want a comic series that plays with the concepts of that uniquely comic canonicity and the kinds of struggles writers in those spaces have making anything "real" when they lose control of those characters later, the Kid Loki Journey into Mystery run deals with this question implicitly and the Loki: Agent of Asgard run that follows it leans on the fourth wall to address it more explicitly)
Part of my definition of fanwork would include that the author, as a fan is someone who does not have any claim to authority of the original source material
Who do we think? https://x.com/thebatmansaganw/status/1996332143753212161?s=46
You know what
Is it crazy I could see her as Poison Ivy
I'm getting sinners in my feed... is this a sign that I should rewatch it...
There's a YouTube recap too? Interesting.
i listen to music on youtube so idk when ill get mine
where do you view your yotuube recap or wtver
I was also wondering where and how to find it
Is it app only?
Its in your profile! As for that... im not sure
I spend a lot of time on YouTube so im glad it reflects my interest and my brain
Next year this channel will probs feature tho
POINTLESSHUB MENTION RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
also why is LS mark there
what
i accidentally let one video fo theres autoplay
YouTube's recap thought I was into cooking shows, which just freakin puzzled me because no, I wasn't
it thought i was into watching politics on youtube
when i dont
i read for my politics
If you dont watch much YouTube the ai that makes these probs got confused or has small data sizes for like clips or shorts you watch
i watch loads of youtube
now this last one is weird, I don't think I watched that much destiny 2 stuff
👀 I just cant get into task master beyond some of the fun clips
maybe a little? but not enough that I really remember it
I just put on a season - or series - as a playlist
I could see that as a decent background noise
guy i blocked was someone who ended up being a bad person and i dont wanna promote them
Fascinating, from what I've heard it looks like Youtube's hard censored any direct references to politics in their year recaps
oh it just said i was media smart and i didnt read that int othe card so i assumed it meant something related to news
(And/or replaced politics with "Exploring AI Topics")
My top channels were all tech channels. Which... I watch a lot of tech content, but I watch a lot of other things too. I feel like some weird mathematical weirdness is going on
There's a good chance the tech vids are longer mabey ?

The thighs above the boots
The absolute territory strikes again.
That look of small skirt large boots thicc thighs above the boots gets me every time
Love that look
Definitely the best costume design we’ve had in the DCU so far
Lady Shiva
Nah, Lady Shiva’s Asian
I think it’s gonna be Andrea Beaumont AKA Phantasm and they’re gonna adapt Mask of the Phantasm
That’s the joke. ScarJo has a history of playing Asian roles lol
Poison Ivy feels like the simplest guess but we'll see
nah its talia
Just watched Wake up Dead Man. Loved it. It’s been awhile since I have seen a movie which approached religious themes with that level of nuance. ||And wow were those some crazy twists and turns. Every time I thought I had a theory the next scene killed it then raised it from the dead and killed it again.||
Only about a week before it comes to Netflix, where I probably will watch it again.
Theaters shmeaters is what I would say, but that would be lying.
I just watched my YouTube recap and I think it kind of got me
I don't know what "cultured" means, but I'm flattered. I definitely became savvy for a couple games I haven't played this year (E33 and DS2), and I'm always story-obsessed. One of the reasons I watch YouTube is for comedy, no surprise, and I end up watching lots of Zelda lore videos. However, I don't understand what "delved into social media trends" is supposed to mean. That's very vague. I will, however, proudly accept that YouTube award.
Oh, would you look at that, Lorien Testard and Toby Fox at the height of a recap list. Again. 😅 All the Alice is wrapped with Lorien, Woodkid would be for constant replays of "To The Wilder", and Luke Pickman was a pleasant surprise.
Hahahahaha. YouTube truly knows me so well. These are absolutely the top five games of my year, and I've never even played two of them (again, E33 and DS2).
Now, this is something I feel embarrassed about. My #1 song I listened to on YouTube was... one of my own? 😞 Uh, I know I relisten to my music sometimes to reflect on what could be improved and/or to bring a scene to mind, but I didn't know I did it this much.
However, the others are no surprise. Lumière dominates a tracklist yet again, hahaha. We Lost is there for the same reason, I used the TSFH karaoke track a lot for school, and Echoes of the Eye speaks for itself.
my award was
which feels accurate
how do you find that?
Here's my top 5 channels
Seems to only be viewable via the mobile app.
-# Like so many of these recap things, which I don't understand. Do they think no one uses desktops/laptops anymore?
Haaaaa I was watching a lot of WOT reactions at the beginning of this year because I really wanted to help boost numbers showing an interest in the show (and I genuinely like seeing and discussing new material for a completed series), and Nerdy Nightly has been reading Cosmere for their book club
🤔 the internet told me it was available on desktop, but that it just wasn't out in some regions
Might be the case, and if so I must be in one of those regions...
I could only find it in the app.
Ah, idk
The article I read said north america first and then elsewhere over the next while, but I don't think it was an official yt article
Ahh, well I am not in North America, so that could well be it.
Neither the website nor the app have it for me right now
You can also go to youtube.com/recap. Thats how I got mine
hey, this worked. Idk if I always had it available for me on desktop or not, but I looked yesterday and couldn't find it. Turns out you can actually click "You >" in the sidenav and that's the page the recap button is at
big lmao, though, it's a mobile view looking popup on desktop as well
go to youtube.com/recap
it is clearly MADE for mobile but it is viewable on desktop
I don't have the YouTube mobile app, and I was able to find it on my computer browser after I searched youtube.com/recap
Aaaaand if I scrolled down first, I would have known Grey already posted that. 😆
hehe
I suppose that's interesting, I didn't really care for the second half of season 2 but I'll at least check out season 3

This could very well mean the death of theatrical releases https://x.com/discussingfilm/status/1996800604908519555?s=46
I don’t think Netflix is stupid enough to kill theaters
Considering how they burned like 400 million on some film nobody watched earlier this year
Their ability to actually make movies with wide audiences is limited
Me being a DC fan I’m more concerned with how this effects the DCU
I think Gunn stays, but I’ll be really pissed off if they do straight to streaming
True, and from what I’ve heard, Netflix does intend to let WB films have a full theatrical release
They probably learned their lesson with the insane amount of money the KPOP Demon Hunters theatrical release made
40 billion revenue for Netflix currently. Not gonna pass up billions/hundreds of millions for theaters if you have a hit
I'm sure Netflix will continue to do some theatrical releases. I wouldn't doubt they'll do some straight to streaming things too, but maybe not via WB
I think it’ll likely be a case by case scenario
Obviously the really big movies like DC and the such will get full theatrical releases
is it bad that I trust Netflix more than their current management
not necessarily but consolidation doesn't usually go well, even if you like the new owners more, a worse owner always comes
Which one
It had MBB and I think Chris Pratt. I only learned it existed last week when looking at her film list
Electric state
Oh yea I remember that one lol, scrolled past it multiple times

And the Hive specifically said “No stem cells would be collected from your body”. And we just established that the Hive can use lawyer speak to obfuscate what they are doing.||
oh
god
its over
I mean, this is at least better than Paramount/Skydance
Given that Netflix still does theatrical releases idk why this would kill WB theatrical releases
Like, they even set up theatrical releases for KDH that was never supposed to get those. They see that theres a value to theatrical releases
What i do think is in more danger is physical releases
I could still see them doing special edition style releases, but yeah, right now standard edition physical/digital releases directly compete with their flagship product
This is better than Ellison and paramount
Just have to roll with the lesser of two evils here
Yeah if I had to pick between these two I would pick Netflix 10 times out of 10
The worrying thing is that Sarandos is already saying he’ll make the release windows shorter
I see the website but I cannot stop my brain eating the onion on this one
What’s funny is that the “blockbuster $112 billion deal” no longer sounds like that much of a blockbuster
I think this Netflix deal is valued close to $80 billion so we’re almost there
It’s actually quite terrifying and somewhat funny that this company that started as an alternative to Blockbuster eventually evolved into a media empire
those were my favorite days of Netflix, when they were a mail order DVD rental company
BB was also something of an empire
if they'd survived to today, I have no doubt they would be doing the same thing as netflix is now
the whole 'no late fees' was revolutionary, just pay your subscription fees for X discs at a time, and go at your own pace
consolidation and vertical integration are the name of the game
I think they may have attempted some sort of video streaming thing, but I wonder if they would have gone in the same direction as Netflix with original content, which is really what seemed to take them to the next level?
yeah, I'm specifically talking about the original content
though I suppose that requires streaming as a prereq
I don't see physical media being able to upgrade from "straight to home movie" to "prestige television"
Yeah, it’s actually so over
This is good training for when they eventually just download the movies straight to your brain
Its okay the new Harry Potter TV series will be on netflix
So it will only have 2 seasons
or season 5 will be announced and the kid who was playing Harry Potter will be 35 years old
Time will also tell if this goes through anti-trust, there’s a very long legal battle ahead for WB and Netflix and we probably won’t even see the ramifications and effects of this until like 2027 or 2028
Can’t wait for the eventual Harry Potter and Squid Game crossover
It will be interesting to see if there is international exposure on the antitrust stuff where I think you might see limits on exclusivity to Netflix for distribution or something.
My current theory is the news about a new Rush Hour film is to help smooth over the US side of this. (WB owns New Line)
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a larger gap in critics score vs audience score
You could argue Minecraft Movie
gonna sound like a terrible old person but I feel like taste has gotten worse over time
probably because of all the internet brain rot

They told me the Snyderverse would come back if Netflix buys
Zaslav staying lol
do you ever wonder why we even bother keeping the antitrust laws on the books anymore
There's a lot of laws right now that probably need better enforcement if they are going to stay on the books
I am the only person gere
Netflix owns and zaslav stays
are they like
going for worst possible options
theaterical release is doomed though sadly
Kinda feels like there are a lot of laws on the books that they don’t even pretend to enforce, sometimes for better and sometimes for worse
But yeah antitrust is dead
I don’t really expect Zaslav to stay long, maybe a year or so after the merger is final
Some really good news tho https://fxtwitter.com/discussingfilm/status/1997008540461134013?s=46

Harry bout to be balding by the time he faces off against Voldemort
Making a new Harry Potter still feels like the most pointless thing to me. They got their movies. People liked the movies afaik. And it’s just giving more money to Rowling
I don’t understand the constant remaking of old stories. It doesn’t even have the argument Disney has with making live action remakes of animated stuff
Why do you need two live action adaptations of the same books unless people hated the first one (like Percy Jackson, eragon, etc)
the shareholders need the money 🥹
Netflix has the rights to remake The Lord of the Rings trilogy, but written like the later season Netflix Witcher

inb4 voldemort is afgan
Oh yeah him
I think about him once a month and I dont even know what he does, if he does anything at all
Like I get the kids signing up to the show but the adults…
Maggie Smith and Alan Rickman cannot be replaced okay
ok he was a baller but yikes all around
their arguments so far have been "well SOMEONE's getting a lot of money so it might as well be me"
||The irish character called seamus finnigan blowing everything up was a bit too on the nose||
Oh yeah thats such a bad name bc there both surnames and ones korean too 😭
Wow did Rowling just have beef with everyone what is this 🤣
Also like people just played these roles like 15 years ago!!!!
not being that good a writer is tough
And the movies were such cultural hits that it’s impossible to fulfill that huge shadow
glad I dropped out of the fandom around the time she claimed that learning to be an animagus requires crystal phials and death's head hawkmoths...but that Native Americans had been doing it forever
feel bad for the kids
tbh
It’s gonna be a disaster
I will admit the lil new Harry is super cute
is dresden files ever getting another adaptation
That would be my son if I gave a damn
they're gonna get Phantom Menace Anakin'd so hard
Yeah I don’t mind the kids as much but like this is a series where my mind is forever ingrained either the movie cast so it isn’t the new cast’s fault (aside from signing up for a pointless cash grab) but it really is impossible to make this a hit again
the only good casting is anton lesser as Ollivander
i can't take any of the other ones seriously
It’s funny because the audience was there for the video game but this show is just nostalgia bait for millennials
I was gonna comment about the netflix issue but I guess yall beat me
increidlbe that with how horrible it is for the fate of movies it was still probably the best outcome
instead of remaking HP they should reboot Wheel of Time
i wouldnt hold your breath on that one
im thinking more adapting asoiaf side material
camille be honest do you have a bot that pings you whenever asoiaf is mentioned
George write the damn books
The thing with got is that, even thought the ending is disappointing or non existent the world itself is so rich! Harry Potter works best as just a Harry Potter story
Camille was summoned by ASOIAF
Empire of Yi Ti any day now
documentary style a world of ice and fire
A Summons of Ice and Fire
Great Empire of the Dawn show rahhhhh
patchface fancams when
Hi, here I am
Oh god we’re like 20 years from them doing a series about the making of the first series
If grrm publishes twow I am dropping out of grad school
i dont think we talk often enough about how insane the asoiaf and kingiller situations are
its literally been 14 years
Huh?
We are 20 years from a re-adaptation
i've gone all in on twow 2026
im sure one already exists
flash forward if grrm publishes twow i am dropping out of my postdoc
I was thinking more them doing a show like CBS/Paramount did for the godfather because they’re out of ideas
i hope asoiaf get re adapted
||that’s not true, she wrote the two Indian twins with no personalities and Cho Chang||
prime candidate
my secret to immortality is that i made a deal with a eldritch god that ill die when twow comes out
Hear me out: Wheel of Time but it doesn’t get cancelled
A book accurate ASOIAF adaptation would go so hard
Gentleman bastards is up their too
Don't even need TWoW
no more remakes. let us enter the era of spiritual successors
Also not made by amazon
I’m basing the Lannisters on late 1400s Italy and the Starks and Northmen on the people of the Caucuses
asoiaf anime when
Amazon lost rights to it
Give me [asoiaf] ||Lady Stoneheart, Patchface, Ghost of Highheart, etc|| and my life is yours
wot has the inverse problem the asoiaf show had
If grrm publishes twow I am quitting my job and abandoning my husband and children to liveblog about twow for five years
wheel of time can only truly be adapted when we return to 24 episode seasons to truly replicate the filler and meandering
No I agree
wheel of time needs to be a CW show
Give me 24 episode seasons with Merlin levels of budget
-# I think it would’ve been fine with like 10
It would be perfect
I am sad we’re never getting the edited down version of the slog
i want more brandon crashouts
Don’t worry y’all there are 3 more seasons of rings of power coming
wheel of time needs like 10% of it cut out
I’m mad about a lot
So many scenes I wanted to see
WoT show ||doesn’t help I was robbed of epic Rand in s1-2||
||I get why but he is my fav character ||
No keep it all
yall the 2045 malazan hbo series will go hard trust
You do
I thought you were gonna say “I need to read WoT” 😭
the crazy thing is malazan is still going
Studio execs gonna be confused by the series to the point where they insist on the dumbest changes
The original is good but 2049 is a rare legacy sequel that is head and shoulders above the original
Yes, Woman of Tomorrow
Great comic
Read it

It’s only 12 issues smh
stares at the books... and movies.... and tvs shows i promised everyone id watch
Can read it in a day
Not vefore I finish absolute superman
My fictional not real bf comes first... second, after my real bf 😂
Lmao
He has a half japanese child too
If Netflix acquires Warner bros, put their movies on your platform, dang it.
that won't happen for a a few years
I'm sure they'll be making a pinky promise to keep Max and Netflix separate to "maintain market competition"
In those countries where HBO Max isn't available already, it's shows would just be made available through Netflix
After 3rd party distribution agreements lapse
This is the lowest estimate I’ve heard lol
By page count it probably needs 50% cut
I think I'd put the 'needs' at around 30%, though it could certainly survive a 50% cut
I think they will keep it seperate (at least at first) more for marketing reasons rather than for legal reasons. HBO and Netflix have different connotations and I think they will want to keep the HBO brand
If I had to make a guess, I'd suspect that they'll keep as technically separate platforms for a while because of bundles and ongoing contracts, but start bundling HBO subs with the ad-powered Netflix sub and Netflix subs with whatever the cheapest level of HBO access is. That'll probably last until someone decides it's cheaper to kill the remaining active contracts/bundles and merge the consumer data they've been collecting than it is to maintain two tech stacks
Yeah I don't think they will keep them seperate apps for long but I think the HBO brand is too valuable to toss
HBO still makes a bunch of money from cable subs
Sure but for streaming I dont see them keeping the apps (or more importantly subscriptions) seperate
Yeah I think there might be separation like Disney+ and Hulu
Where you can bundle them and then raise prices but not enough that people who just want Netflix will drop it
Like if you merge and bake the hbo price into Netflix all at once it’s probably not ideal given how churn heavy Netflix is already
I am worried about what they’ll cancel due to regulatory pressure
okay the thing is is gotham is in new jersey and in new jersey it's illegal to pump your own gas which means there is a non-zero chance that the batmobile has pulled into a gas station and some minimum wage teen has to literally go out there and pump batman's gas
-# #realistically they buy cans and fill up the batmobile in the cave #but play with me in this space #batman's NEVER had a long day and realized he spent way more time in teh car than he thought and is low on gas? of course he has #and batman sends out his 12 yr old to run into the gas station with twenty bucks like everyone else who doesn't want to go out in the cold #some bored teen is wiping down batman's windows with a squeegee and u kno it #dcu

Wild Robot was such a cute movie omg
Watched Bone Lake and then Wild Robot tonight. Both very enjoyable movies. Wildly different vibes. Very interesting set of movies to do back to back lmfao
She actually commented on instagram that she was just reacting to the idea of doing that many emotional scenes back to back and has no idea what 6-7 is xD
Having never played a souls game, I assumed that was a shardblade until I read the tags
I have and still thought it was a shardblade at first glance
Moonlight greatsword has a distinct look
It's so iconic they even put it in Armored Core
And E33 has a sword that is in an extremely obvious homage to it
Me who played dozens of fantasy rpgs before ever reading a Brando book: it's a generic fantasy bigsword
GLOWING fantasy bigsword thank you very much 😤
it does concern me a little that there's a segment of fantasy readers whose entire entry in to the genre is <every single thing Brandon Sanderson and also lots of cosmere fanfic> who get "Boss Baby vibes" from everything when they begin to step outside of BS output.
TBF I think most of that segment are confined to this server.
Or the strange land of forums that I sometimes hear about.
i've seen it somewhat often out there
Anecdotally I've not met many Sanderfans just in the wild. 😔 Most people's knowledge of fantasy comes from LoTR, GoT, and/or romantasy.
not to demean them or say it's their fault but it's kinda a... casualty? I guess of how all-encompassing Sanderson is and the enormous amount of output he has, though maybe it's just a fandom thing in general? I see it from, like Harry Potter Adults who never read anything outside of that when they see/hear of something tangentially fantasy-ish too.
When I first began reading the Cosmere I boss baby'd Shardblades off the Spirit Blades from Dragon Age Inquisition.
Which are glowing fantasy bigswords made from a willing spirit brought from across the Veil (realm transition)
I saw a big sword in a brandon sanderson server at a glance
are there that many people that only read Brandon?
I feel like it's somewhat common when people begin
Yes, they’re mostly on Reddit and deeply annoying
at least from interacting with people on here and reddit
it's why /r/fantasy kinda hates Sanderson
Wait r/fantasy actually has a good reason for hating Sanderson?
I thought they just hated him as a groupthink kinda deal
people got real tired of "I've read 50 fantasy books and they're all by brandon sanderson and he's the greatest fantasy author ever and I will now recommend him in every thread"
Scroll through any rec thread and see how long it takes to find someone trying to get you to read him
"I want a recommendation for a fantasy romance"
"Brandon sanderson"
I think it's a lot less now than it was at the height of his explosion of growth
but for a few years it was everywhere
arguably the same could be said for the majority of r/fantasy readers only reading fantasy
which im certainly mostly guilty of myself too
i don't think its nearly the same? in a sense of like. Like, i think everyone could read more than fantasy from time to time but as a genre it is a million times wider than all of brandon works
Mistborn was what got me back into reading, so there was a good chunk of time when Brando was the only author I read
And also still remarkably niche in the broader literature world
I think it's natural he's very accessible and has a lot of content, as I said not trying to demean people just sorta explain the reaction I guess?
Redditors? Annoying? /s
He's dipped his toe into many aspects of fantasy. Like, he's not a romantasy specialist by any stretch but someone could still legitimately throw Yumi in the rec list for that genre.
and Yumi is better than most romantasy I’ve read
Nowadays I see Malazan recced for everything instead lmao
heh Malazan is like the anti-sanderson in a lot of ways
I just do my duty and lob Earthsea at everyone who walks past.
or RotE for people who like emotional damage
Back in 2022 we had a glorious moment of fandom alliance with Malazan for the r/place 😤
lately I need to get back to reading new things tho, too easy to fall in to comfort rereads but depression is 🙁
I finished Assassin's Apprentice recently and I dont think theyre massively similar, but the tone and possibly some of the prose felt more similar than anything else ive read, to a wizard of earthsea
Oh that’s the other one that gets recced a lot
Also Dungeon Crawler Carl, and I’m so tired of that I refuse to read it
I still need to read the farthest shore and tehanu
oh this one i do get annoyed at
I read wizard and atuan far too long ago
i dont want to read this DCC thing idk if people enjoy it just stop shoving it down everyone's throat 😭
I can see that, I think both are very well written and while their style of prose isn't exactly the same in both cases I'd say it's more evocative than overly descriptive and somewhat minimalist (not that they aren't descriptive but both Le Guin and Hobb can paint a picture with a paragraph that might take writers more inclined to dense description pages) and thematically both are more introspective and to some extent melancholic, and not really focused on action.
and like, i read similar stuff to it, i feel it would be something i enjoy but the vibes are off lol
and yeah I think this does happen with other things that are newer and popular
see also Cradle and in general the explosion of LitRPG and progression stuff
only times I get annoyed at recommendations are when people blatantly ignore the specific types of stories a person asked for and just drop their favorites
bonus points if they recommend the thing you actually mentioned reading before
I don't really get being annoyed at specific things I haven't read and never will, but whatever floats your boat
I like a specific subset of progresion fantasy and lit-rpg adjacent stuff but cradle which i have read fully and DCC are so not my thing
actually, no I lied
For me its less the generic big sword and more the specific looks of it. I recognize greatswords are a standard fantasy thing of course. I would also say I'm hyperfixated on the cosmere, so even recognizing that I'll be more likely to make a connection to the cosmere than other ips
I hate when people recommend One Piece
see i was thinking i could recommend you this manga-
I wouldnt know anyone like that
"just trust me bro, 1000 issues and you'll be caught up"
being caught up is the worst bit
because then theres no more
take your time and savour it!
its certainly a shorter read than things like RotE or Malazan
Wait what does this even mean?
its a meme about people who have only seen one thing before and compare everything new they see to it
This is the most compelling pitch for Earthsea I’ve ever gotten.
Granted I already was planning to read the series eventually and just bought them all on Audible the other day
I find it harder to check out people's book recs than media, for obvious financial reasons. Streaming services are great at letting you check out new stuff
Ken Liu also does an incredible job at doing a lot with very little. Like he has told a whole love story in a few pages more effectively than some do in entire books
Ive only read the first two and they were both instant five star reads for me
Ahh very interesting
Will have to figure out how to slide them into the docket sooner rather than later. Will probably aim for them to be 2026 reads at some point
Man imagine how annoying it would be for someone to constantly try to get you to read their favorite manga
Codenames you should read Kasane
That would be annoying for you and them, right
I don’t think I’ve ever read any manga now that I think about it
I disagree
I wish that were the case. It is kind of a known hazard in other book spaces and especially in fantasy book spaces that if you ask for a specific recommendation for some kind of book you're interested in reading, a good percentage of your recommendations will be Sanderson books that do not fit the bill at all
To be honest, I was not expecting the DSNX crowd to be a lot more normal and a lot less greasy than other similar crowds I've encountered over the years as a result
Well I dont find it annoying. It’s shifted to being funny
Hey now it’s not a MtG con.
That actually is what I was expecting
The worst part about dating trans women is how many of them want to get me into Magic. Sorry, I don’t want to spend time with the typical player of that game. While stereotypes aren’t always accurate, that one is

Performance of the decade coming
For better or worse its seen as more serious fantasy and also doesn't have the baggage of ASOIAF or Rothfuss (the main series is finished)
Oh
Didnt realize discord had be that far back
Also thought this was #1404497733108236318
I really dislike that it’s almost always without any content warnings
I do not think thats unique to Malazan
But yeah in a well written rec it'd have content warnings
Malazan needs more of them than most

pluribus all general ||someone on tumblr just drew the connection between the hive and conversion camp (which carol WAS sent to! 😭) and honestly, the intelligence of the fandom around this show makes me wish i like the show, it's bringing out a LOT of good meta||
||they ARE trying to forcibly convert her into being something other than she is! it's all just conversion therapy!||
also oh no, i saw a post on tumblr and now feeling the STRONG desire to watch m*a*s*h all over again.... but i just did this with homestuck and am now deep into act 3 😩 when will the urge to reread/rewatch let me out of its claws
There is no escape
nostalgia wins by renewing itself, all the time
if a piece of media isn't actually that good, i'll realize in the reread and eventually the feelings sort of fade
but if a media has Something to it, something good, something magnetic.... i'll reread and go, oh damn this IS good actually
and there i go, in my feelings and thoughts about it again after a decade
.... maybe I should rewatch my little pony friendship is magic
Youre making a good argument to return to my roots
👀
it's fun to reread!
2025 was kinda... Bad!!! in some ways!! i reread/rewatched a TON this year
i guess my brain needed the comfort of something i KNEW was gonna be good
It is very comforting to go back to the Happy Place™️, agreed
All in all this was a very meh year for me
Not much happened
Obviously DC made a comeback in cinema and I’m not longer ashamed to say I like DC
But other than that
Just meh year
Oh I was never ashamed of liking DC, I knew my truth
I was just sick of people looking at me crazy whenever I said I did
(12 tamora pierce books reread this year, for a START)
Are you sure that was about DC?
🥴
what if i cosplay dave strider.......................

That would be cute!!
Yeah the eragon reread didn’t go so well for eragon…
Meanwhile atla and korra rewatches always are a good time, and I enjoyed all of the partial shirts creek rewatch I had been working on
Though the Eragon reread brought great disappointment because it was foundational for me as a kid
It is funny when you return to something you used to love and it feels like god flips a coin
ooop, made it to the Intermission in Homestuck! :D

Yes :3
Which is super valid and awesome
Mhm! I will say nothing else
Maybe ill at least get a copy of it today
I've also got Succession I'm meant to be watching...
I've got enough I want to be watching right now for me to end up watching none of it
Also we stan Elphaba the goat. Formative character fr.
@james Gunn I need the shapeshifting magical angel Pegasus horse boyfriend. Comet or bust!!!
Its just Loki

Supergirl’s horse/boyfriend who is sometimes a Pegasus and sometimes an Angel and sometimes a guy cursed to change forms
And sometimes a woman (#diversity, genderfluid bisexual shapeshifting magic horse Angel Pegasus)
It kinda felt like finding a disney princess again
Watching Wicked as a kid defined me lol
Love Elphaba so much
Yeah i can see how 😂
Comet is the name of two comic book characters owned by DC Comics whose adventures have been published by that same company. The first character is Biron, a sapient horse with magical powers who was once a centaur in ancient Greece. The second character is a shapeshifter with three forms (male, female, and winged centaur). Both characters are c...

At my new store, we stopped playing non-christmas music on November 2nd
there's always another christmas song, if they stop playing one that drives you crazy it'll be another
Wait Netflix owns Game of Thrones lmao
I wonder if there'll be weirdness like when Disney acquired Fox and projects were in limbo (mostly thinking about the reintegratino of X-Men into MCU)\
I don't think there is anything that Netflix owns which will be reintegrated with something Warner Bros owns
I think the Disney/Hulu merger is closer to what this will turn out to be
I guess I'm thinking along the lines of these: https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/comments/cnfixp/a_comprehensive_list_of_all_the_former_fox/

Superman really gained people’s trust back in DC
superman really showed me mabey there is some hope left in the world
and we can address and talk about issues in the world in hopeful ways
And now you get to watch a movie about a girl who watches her entire planet explode as she’s helpless to do anything
This movie really needs to nail Kara’s backstory
It’s one of the things that makes Woman of Tomorrow click for me
We must now cancel Jimmy Olsen
What the hell is this
“NO JIMMY!!! NOOOO”
Silver Age Superman was wild
It was somehow less coherant than I was expecting, and I'm familiar with why those silver age stories are like that
Yeah Jimmy just becomes a Nazi
Well... it was more hopeful because we can still treat superman as the Uber woke
And I dont expect supergirl to be different on that front
It’s gonna be very akin to Guardians 3 I think
Space adventure with humorous moments but also very serious undertones
What the hell
not that bad for silverage comics
Honestly would love to see him direct a Constantine or Justice League Dark movie https://x.com/SuperSagaNews/status/1998170903591399914?s=20
That was in talks for a while wasn't it?

Wicked time 🍿
Part 1
Wicked pt1 ||glinda has dead wife flashbacks of elphaba||
||goodness me her dad is horrible||
Wicked ||yikes, I wasn't expecting this to be quite so serious||
Wicked/stormlight ||what's adolin doing here?||
Wicked/stormlight ||Boq is Renarin and Fiyero is Adolin, my headcanon||
I had no idea what I was expecting but that was far more wild than I could have possibly imao
Wicked ||galinda's getting better but it still feels... wrong. It feels like she's doing it more for her than elphaba||
||I did not expect fiyero to help out||
Um... What.
Is this from the same era of comics where Superman spanks Jimmy Olsen for being a bad boy
Yes
That’s less wierd though. Spanking used to be a legit form of discipline for a child. There is no excuse for joining the Nazi party, James
For reference, the story as I've been told is that for this era of Superman, one common tactic for getting people to buy issues was for the artists to make the cover first, and for the writers to figure out how the hell you arrive at that point afterwards
Wicked pt1 ||elphaba is very cool||
True, but usually the cover is just “clickbait” for lack of a better word. If Jimmy joined the Nazis on the cover but the story turned out to make more sense that would be one thing, having the actual story be “Jimmy joins the Nazis” is just bonkers
Final Review of Stranger Things Season 5:
Good
I keep forgetting that exists, and is (mostly?) out
It's gonna be a while before I can watch it
New Stargate Show runner is going to do his first interview since the announcement on this YouTube program tomorrow https://youtube.com/live/sZZaAgn0YWM
The creator of the upcoming fourth Stargate television series, Martin Gero, joins Dial the Gate and GateWorld for his first interview since the announcement!...
i bet youtube recap cut off before the MASSIVE INFLUX of chernobyl reaction content i've been watching lately
now youtube is just shoving it in my face and i'm just like, mmm again? don't mind if i do...
i do not agree lmao
A Guillermo Hellblazer would be rad, but he's not one to be too beholden to comic source, so I wonder if it would make Hellblazer fans double annoyed at adaptations xD
I've been seeing vague things online of people not liking it, so tomorrow I'm gonna delve into why that is
my biggest issue is that it felt afraid to actually say anything
Only if he brings back Matt Ryan
That's kinda the whole show tbf. There's a much bigger focus on aesthetics and getting to really cool scenes than there is on having a deep emotional message
Plus, it's not entirely released yet, just the first four episodes
Does stranger things actually have anything to say?
theyre so close to actually saying something about homophobia and prejudice but then just dont
I dont think its impossible that they do in vol2 or 3
When is that even coming out
70 years?
Respectively
Dont think itll happen considering S4 was even worse in that regard
S4 || I mean this season was pretty overtly about teen suicide/depression||
ST S4 ||I suppose. I guess for me I feel like theres a distinction between having themes and having something to say, and I feel like ST leans more to the former||
God s4 would be infinetly better if the ||Russia|| stuff didnt happen and they spent that time on the satanic panic stuff
another big issue is that they dont know what to do with like hafl the characters
My general take on Stranger Things is that season 1 was great, season 2 was even better, season 3 was okay but not on par with the first two, and season 4 was awesome. Yeah, there are kind of some character problems frequently, but the story is good and the series does an incredible job of building up tension.
I forgot part of season 5 is out now. I can't watch it yet though, since it's a show my family watches together, so we each need to be available for it.
Looking forward to it.
my take is 1 > 4 > 2 > 3
5 isnt out yet but so far prob goes inbetween 2 and 3
2 alright
4 probably has moments where its weaker than 2 though (Most of the last third and the ||russia and bits where mike, johnathonwill and the comedy relief guy are all alone|| plotlines)
overall much stronger tahn 2 though
1s by far the best though
I saw the first four episodes of Season 2 at a friend's Halloween party the day they released and just didn't get around to the rest for over a year. Then finally, sometime in December of the next year, I finally got around to watching the rest of the season and binged watched all five episodes in one night without my family knowing, going to bed sometime after 2AM.
Goody-two-shoes me felt like such a rebel for that 😆
idk its hard bc s5 just feels like nothing
I really really love love at first sight scenes!
KDH ||When Rumi first sees Jinu||
or when Truman first sees Lauren
or when Adaline first sees Ellis
Reminds me of my own experience
I remember time slowing when we locked eyes
I wonder how they are doing

The idea of a fridge playing you ads at all is already dystopian enough
Pluribus through 6 ||I feel like I should stop watching at this point but I am kind of willing to see it through to the end of the season. I just feel like there's so much emptiness in this show, like the plot developments feel like a drip feed of pretty simple information, stretched thin to try to make it last, and in between those developments, I'm just not getting enough character work to carry it. There's so much focus on spectacle but it doesn't feel like there's a lot of meaning in it. ||
That feels like sunk cost fallacy in action 😅
The only conversations I've really heard about Pluribus are about how either ||it has no character development or bafflement at how people can think that because it's packed with character development||.
As I haven't seen it, I cannot comment. But it does appear to be a trend.
Pluribus 6 ||Like, I get it. It's very creepy and bizarre that they can hack a hotel signboard to talk to her and they can set up a whole grocery store just for one person, and airlift a construction digger into her backyard and they can do these weirdly overpersonal things but it just feels a little repetitive.||
Pluribus ||Carol herself does have... character but there just isn't a lot of space for her to actually develop anything because she spends a lot of time fully alone and even when she's interacting with other characters, the cast is so sparse. It's like the hivemind and the French guy. And I sympathize with the fact that this situation horrifies her and she doesn't really get to grieve the way she needed to, but they do a lot to show that she's kind of an innately miserable and spiteful person even at her best and something about it doesn't really... work for me.||
Pluribus all ||I feel like I can see what they were going for, but it doesn't fully click. Especially because the writing wants this dynamic where the Joined are just so nice and want to give Carol whatever she wants and she's still rude and binchy towards them and doesn't want it. That's the whole premise, right? Everybody's happy but this one miserable person just wants to be miserable. But there's this whole thing where every time she's mean to the hivemind or yells at them or takes her anger out on them, they suffer all this psychic damage and thousands of people die. And I just can't really sympathize with the fact that she keeps doing it because her right to take her emotions out on whoever is around her is more important than a bunch of people's lives. ||
Pluribus 5, legit spoilers ||I think I'm supposed to be on her side with the idea that everything should go back to normal (and the fact that the hivemind is cannibalizing itself and still won't be able to avoid starvation is pretty horrific so we probably should fix that). But she treats the Joined so badly a part of me just wants them to infect her so she stops doing that. I'm way more sympathetic to them than I am to her.||
plubrius all ||i think i have enough lived experience of others forcing their beliefs on me or trying to in ways that make me more sympathetic to carol than most. But the show is starting to wear thin on me by just HOW predictable it all is and how i just dont see a world where this dosent turn into some small not impactful and stretched too long concept like other post apoc stuff like last man on earth||
like others have said its basicly a long eppisode of a tv show concept rather than a full drawn out multiple series thing
i kinda wasnt on that side to begin with but the most recent epp has pulled me much more towards that side
Plubrius 6, spoils || the fact that it was literally as predicted to be soylet green just makes me sad, theres so many better angles than we cant feed ourselves because we cant kill, but we can eat humans||
pluribus all ||The next episode seemingly is going to follow the Paraguayan a lot more, if not fully, considering its called The Gap and to get to North America he has to drive through the Darien Gap||
Pluribus general ||I think it's just more like an '00s show than a '20s show, in the sense that it has a premiere, a finale, and then a bunch of episodes in the middle that just kind of explore the world state without necessarily driving it forward||
Pluribus all even though I'm not caught up ||I think the premise from ep 2, I do not think there's a single thing the hive could do to get me to support it, it's so hideously invasive and violating. the comparison to conversion camp cannot be overstated, and the "nicer" the hive is doesn't take away from how... insidiously violating they are and continue to be. I'm all Carol all the way, even when I didn't want to watch anymore, a great deal of it was because of how thin I found it all, sure, but even in ep 2, I knew I didn't want to watch a whole series of Carol going through the bleakest possible experience of loneliness, violation, and tainted grief that I can imagine||
||let her burn it all down tbh||
this
agreed there jmc
I have yet to see any features of a smart fridge that make me go, "ohhhhh yeah that would be worth connecting another thing in my house to the internet"
But knowing that I can have it auto-boot guests from my house by hitting them with psychic damage is quite the pitch
wait hol' up, i haven't watched the show but i've gotta ask ||why was their first solution "cannibalism" and not "going vegan"? Is the implication that there's not enough food with just plants (which makes no sense, our food troubles are due to insufficient logistics, not insufficient production) or is farming considered harming things for them?||
||they cant farm because they cant willingly harm any living thing including plants||
...
pluribus all? ||i feel like the final plot twist has to be that the virus that joined them all is supposed to make a species wipe itself out||
||like an alien bioweapon that kills you with kindness (and autocannibalism)||
pluribus all ||Theres that but it might not be supposed to do anything at all, it might just simply propagate, like a virus||
pluribus all || its less auto cannibalism and more it is able to use resources from dead things, so if humans die they can use them for food kinda thing||
Pluribus all ||I think that's basically it. 90% of the population is going to die from starvation in the next decade, they projected in the latest episode. I assume that the hivemind will seek to build a giant interstellar radio to replicate itself to the next world before it dies, and that'll be all it cares to do||
ah, so it's probably one of those stories
Pluribus all ||One of those "we might save our world but the universe is pretty much dead cause it's just this virus going around everywhere"||
Question: is pluribus good?
i have not watched it, but opinions here seem to be on the negative side
on the other hand, i have a few coworkers that really enjoy the mystery of it, or at least did a few weeks ago
i love the premise
its just explored in ways im not enjoying that much right now
it might come around by the end of the season but idk
Is this a “really shouldnt have been 8 episodes” situation
I like the cinematography and acting
vince gilligan is hoping that its 3 or 4 seasons
that's a "depends who you ask" if I've ever seen one
That every prestige high concept story needs to be 8 episodes and multiple seasons is really sad for me.
Everyone I know in real life who has seen it (all two of them) seems to really like it.
No one here (so far) seems to like it. :P
Very few have been able to justify that structure
Pluribus all I guess? ||I stopped watching at ep 3 I think, but y'all are saying they start eating people? When does that happen? Might be curious enough to see how that works out||
Pluribus all ||I think its mostly speculation for now because its so slow in getting to what the hivemind is doing or thinking about||
I've seen TONS of good stuff around the show, so it's finding its audience and I think the audience is doing some interesting thoughtful stuff (like Crazy Stupid Podcast) but it's also definitely not hitting with everyone
pluribus all big spoils answering cultist's question || they are using human derived protein from dead humans they have frozen and then cut up to add calories to their diet because they cant kill ANYTHING||
That's certainly something
||theyre drinking a super milk with all the nutrients and stuff they need without hurting any life or plant life, so for efficiency theyre putting already dead human in it, its not much more interesting than that||
oh i replied to the wrong message sory lloyd
||I guess they ran out of already dead plant and animals pretty quick||
Pluribus all ||I admit I simply do not think they are going to make someone bushwhacking it alone through the Darien Gap interesting. Like, famously there are no roads, no infrastructure there at all. It's one of the most inhospitable places ever and I don't know how this guy who has, himself, been starving for a little while, is going to make it through. But that also doesn't really sound like... plot. Like is he going to find something in there or is it just him surviving in the jungle or something. Ahhh, I'm very cynical.||
it's a 9 episode season
what ep are we at now?
6 recently aired
cool
same
Is pluribus worth watching? Idk what it even is. If so I’ll just go in blind, not looking for context or info other than yes watch or nah
i should prob watch pluribus but im in the middle of BCS rn so
I'm enjoying it
im enjoying it, i just worry about its longevity also go in blind
pluribus all ||yeah, been thinking about that and the radio signal for the RNA sequence because like technically, this isn't so much an alien invasion as something we did to ourselves, but like we generated the RNA virus by copying it by hand... with the radio signal, I almost wonder if it's like a cordyceps thing where it hijacks the host to climb to the highest point to spread spores further||
I'm not particularly enjoying it anymore, but I admittedly went in with extremely high expectations and probably did it a disservice there
feather have you seen the trueman show
I don't know if I've ever watched it all the way through but I am familiar
it reminds me a lot of the way people describe pluribus
but the trueman show is a masterpiece and two hours long
The pilot episode was pretty widely acclaimed. It's the episodes that follow that I think people are a bit more mixed on. I think it's absolutely worth watching even if you don't stick around
This is an episode of the X-Files
Not four seasons of TV
I realized that the parts I was enjoying most were the Breaking Bad callbacks and it wasn't close, which meant I wasn't enjoying the show on its own merits
That is the stated goal
I feel like this really needs to be a one-and-done, wrap it up at the end here
There is not four seasons worth of content in this premise!
I don't even think there's one
I agree, the pilot and probably the episode after it are the strongest
I think there's two if they squished all the plans into fewer
not knowing what their 2 through 4 seasons ideas are, just... pull em forward
let's just see it then
I know my problem was that I really wanted this to be another Severance. Highly produced present-day-ish sci-fi that explores deep truths about the human experience and what it means to be a person in a unique premise with an intentionally unsettling vibe
And it just doesn't have the same level of oomph in any category as Severance, and the comparison in my head is damning it
The characters aren't as deep, the questions it's asking aren't as interesting, and even the unsettling aesthetics and spectacle aren't hitting as hard
I was hoping it was going to be more horror ||but that completely ended after the first episode 😭 ||
Lumon is a way creepier and more interesting exploration of human-ness pulled just off center enough to hit max uncanny valley than the Pluribus group imo
But they both felt like they were aiming for that niche
I watched Blue moon today and it's a great movie. Ethan hawke is brilliant in it, one of the strongest performances of the year
now I wait for sentimental value and no other choice to come for cinema
Citypool remains ever strong
i didn't know the movie was named after that song, so I made a face when they started singing it
is it anyone near in quality to breaking bad and bcs?
I've been seeing things Vince Gilligan has said about writing both Pluiribus, and BCS and BB before, that make me think he very much follows a pantser philosophy
So I'm here for the season at least, and we'll see if he makes me care enough for S2 and beyond
BB was very much not pantsed, there are two major deviations from the original idea and as far as TV goes that's actually quite low
Breaking Bad ||The deviations were keeping Jesse around and giving a lot more time to develop Gus, resulting in an additional season||
So um The Lowdown might be the best show I’ve seen this year
