Okay but seriously, the DTDM remains one of my favorite story arcs, like, in general, mostly thanks to Shingo (||It starts when he badmouths Takumi (the main character)'s friends to goad him into a race, to prove he really is the best racer on Mt. Akina. When that isn't enough, he starts badmouthing Takumi directly, to his face even. When that doesn't work, he starts going out on the mountain at night to try and find him practicing, and when he thinks he has, he nudges him in the middle of a turn to send him out of control, causing an accident. It wasn't Takumi, it was his best friend, but that's what gets Takumi to accept. Everyone he knows is trying to talk him out of it, but he won't back down. When its finally time for the race, Takumi shocks just about everyone by stealing an early lead (typically considered a bad idea in a duct tape death match, since the rules for that are "your hand is literally tied directly to the steering wheel via a giant wad of duct tape"), and just barely manages to save himself at the first corner. After maintaining this lead for the next several corners, Shingo gives up on pretending to play nice and nudges again. Takumi nearly also gets into an accident, but he manages to stop safely, and he gets even more pissed about it. He catches up in record time, manages to pass Shingo, and by accident dodges an out right RAMMING MANEUVEUR, because Shingo was underestimating his skill and, how much of a grudge he'd hold. Unable to course correct, Shingo wrecks his car this time, and is really badly beaten up in the process. After Takumi drives off, now the winner by default, his friend Iketani pulls up, having been following the race from a safe distance, hoping to save Takumi from a wreck if one were to occur. And after finding Shingo, bruised and bloodied on the side of the road, he... treats him no different than he would Takumi, and gives him some encouragement that he'll improve, because they're both racers||)

star trek SNW S3E3 || love when we get eppisodes like this where its ZOMBIES, i really kinda started expecting zombies or something weird when they kept harping on about the life signs. Also loved some more klingon action. Really curious as well how this gorn hybrid stuff resolves and getting more info about the things that happened in this period of time is facinating. I personally would really want a trek tv series to push towards new stuff rather than prequal stuff i want post voyager tv series i still have hope it will exist. If it is at the quality of this/lower decks then i will love it lots. ||

atla b1e1 ||Also damn, Aang definitely is like... he's an annoying kid in the best way. And Sokka and Katara are really well written to bounce off of that. Like, Sokka's obviously got most of the friction with him, but then you:ve also got little stuff like Katara saying "I haven't done this [penguine sledding] since I was a kid!", and then Aang responds "You are a kid!", because Katara doesn't consider herself a kid because she's had to grow up so fast, and then being unwilling to go on board the wreckage of the Fire Nation warship after Aang says they should||

Fantastic Four
||Overall I thought it was pretty good. I really liked all of the worldbuilding stuff, and the set designs were really fun to look at throughout.||
||My biggest issue is that it felt like I was watching an abridged version of the movie. The scenes were all like 30-60 seconds max, and that made it hard for me to settle into the movie.||
||Also I'm really tired of marvel doing fake out deaths, especially ones that go on as long as this. Longest shot in the movie I swear was looking at Sue Storms gray corpse.||

In the Spiderverse movies ||Peni is more “Peter Parker but robot and Japanese” where she is used to represent that concept and doesn’t much have more than that to her. || in the comics ||Peni is straight up Shinji Ikari with the depression and existential dread, forced to get into a giant mech robot and fight for humanity. It’s very good. It is quite literally “Evangelion but Spider”. The only similarities to Spiderman are like names and the fact she is bit by a spider to bond with the mech suit ||

So @steep bramble my thoughts on Young Royals so far (up to 2.4 I think)
||I think it's strange that they're making Marcus into a better partner option than Wilhem ever was. He's respectful of any need for space, he wants to take it slow and do it right, he shows up at stuff he's not interested in to support Simon...
Meanwhile Wilhem is a jealous, emotionally volatile|| crashout.|| I feel like something is going to happen between Marcus and Simon in the next episode or two but I don't want it to! Wilhem is not at a point where he is capable of engaging in a healthy relationship and Simon literally has a better guy who is waiting until he's ready. Not expecting Simon to wait for two years to have a public relationship. Not pushing him faster than he wants to go. Giving him all the time and space he needs. Like, what have Simon and Wilhem done, exactly? They had sex at least once? But have they gone on any dates? Spent any meaningful romantic time together? NO! Because their relationship has to remain a complete secret!
So like... Why? Why are they having Simin give up a stable, caring boyfriend for one who literally wants to keep him a secret for two years? How on earth are the show writers going to change the dynamic so that Wilhem and Simon get back together and make it make any sort of sense and be satisfying in any way?
The writing has been very good thus far so I have some hope they can salvage this but if they fumble it honestly I'm not sure how I'm going to feel about the show.
So we'll see. I'll probably be able to finish the season later today.||

Superman ||I really liked how the movie was able to introduce a nuanced take on superheroes without being grim or edgy or anything. A lot of people justify the grittier superhero media by saying "oh well that's just a more realistic and nuanced take". And yet, here we have Superman being a just flat out kind, lovable person, who just wants to help people. And it still had complicated nuance, especially in the beginning. That super good person still caused major geopolitical conflict by trying to save lives. That's an interesting conflict, and still realistic and nuanced, without having a "dark and edgy" hero.||
||Honestly, my only big complaint with the movie is that that conflict was kind of undermined later in the film with it just being a super evil government working with the evil bad guy. Like sure, there are real countries in the world like that, and I definitely don't want a movie that tries to make a justifiable war, but I still think all the issues of "this figure that, like it or not, represents the USA, and he just interfered with one of the US's major allies, and even though he did a good thing it still bypassed all sorts of international law and policy." I really thought that conflict was going to be explored more in the movie and then it kind of wasn't. Maybe in a sequel we can see some more of the ramifications.||

Sure, he was doing good, but there are laws and global policies for a reason, and blatantly violating them will lead to other complications that I wish had been addressed more.||

Superman ||A few things. One, I think the plot of Supergirl is supposed to be about the wider political ramifications of what happened in Superman. However, the specific issue with Boravia is something no country would ever push after Luthors plans got revealed. Also, the US has laws about invading the Hague if any US citizen ever gets arrested for international crimes. Whether the US would apply that to Superman is a different issue, but it's very possible that it would be a "he generally only operates here, it's our decision to deal with him, piss off"||

I don't see Rumi's central question as being "Should she be ashamed of being half demon or not" but merely around the fact that she is ashamed of it and let that shame isolate her. Jinu's shame was fully legitimate: he did a terrible thing! Rumi's shame is ambiguous, but I think there's an argument that she's not half-demon due to any actions she herself made, so she doesn't have "fault" in it. But I don't think there was a desire or attempt by the movie to definitely address whether demons are objectively evil or not, and therefore not a failure to resolve it in the end. We only intact with Jinu in that capacity, and I don't read him as standing in for all of demonkind being redeemable or all just victims or if some of them are also terrible and Jinu is the exception. We don't explore that side of the demons enough to have the movie make a point about it.||

Rumi has one brief interaction where she tries to ask a demon if its being forced to do this and it doesn't answer but seems like the answer is no, because it grins at her. That's just not enough data to pull a theme from, imo. If we had more runtime, they could have explored those elements but the movie as it stands doesn't do that. It spent its runtime elsewhere.||

I dont think they needed the fakeout death though, or to make it so the baby had active powers in connection with the energy he held. More of a vibes thing for why it wasnt at the tip though personally, that I can't quote pin down.
