Murderbot question. How many of the books does the season cover? Haven’t read any of it yet and have yet to watch the show. I know the books are mostly super short though

If you want some vibe comparison: ||MB books are very dry and very internal. Murderbot is cynical, snarky, doesn't pay attention to things that don't interest it. The joy of the books is that everything is SO central to Murderbot's character and who it is because you are deeply in its perspective and it's a great perspective to be in. The show obviously can't do that (though MB's narration is still present) so there's more focus on the rest of the cast, interpersonal relationships, and the plot follows the same shape but very gracefully expands to make room for plot things that Murderbot itself doesn't have to be directly present for, but flesh out the world and setting in great ways.||

Two different flavors, both really really enjoyable

I especially loved what the show did with the ending tonight, chef kiss, so glad there's a season 2 confirmed

It is really engaging.

You just need to listen to the first episode which is around 19 minutes to to really get locked into the series.

when they decided to satirize pokemon, they tried watching it, and said they found it completely incomprehensible. it made no sense to them. it was beyond them to conceptualize. and so the satire they wrote was that pokemon was just some hypnotic yet nonsensical series of images that somehow infected kids' brains.

every time i think about that i'm just like. damn. we're letting two guys who were incapable of understanding the premise of pokemon do political satire.

Overall I’m probably going to give this movie a 9.5/10

Superman ||GOD I really loved this movie, just some of the things I love

• David Corenswet IS Superman and Rachel Brosnahan IS Lois Lane, both give incredible performances
• Nicholas Hoult is head and shoulders above every previous Lex Luthor, he was the best performance in this whole movie tbh
• Justice Gang and Guy Gardner were very fun, Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific was incredible, NEED a spin off of him now
• Action scenes were absolutely incredible too, and cinematography was top notch, even though the fish eye lens did look a lil awkward in some shots||

Superman ||

• MILLY ALCOCK SUPERGIRLLL, was not expecting this at all and it was a pleasant treat, she looks so good!!! Cannot wait for her solo movie
• The editing in this movie was a little… weird, the cuts to black were definitely awkward
• Now for the big one: Jor-El and Lara are evil??? Wow I was not expecting them to take that route with this, I still think the second half of the message was fake, something about it just doesn’t feel right, even though Mr. Terrific and multiple other people confirmed it was legit, I don’t know, would have loved some clarification on that plot point, hoping they’ll explore it more in Supergirl since at least from what we see, Kara doesn’t appear to be evil and she remembers Krypton, if she was then she would be forcing Kal-El to conquer earth and not getting drunk on planets with red suns||

My interest in Marvel was waning at the time, so I thought the first one was about as good as the rest, nothing really to write home about. I definitely don't think it deserved all of the hate it got, but I don't think it was the best thing ever.

Black Panther/Wakanda Forever || I thought the first was very good as a whole (and valuable), the plot may have been a little familiar and trope heavy in places, and I would have liked Killmonger more if he ever showed a single scrap of empathy for anyone. That way his (otherwise justified) rage about the treatment of people of colour would have felt more like his real motivation, rather than an excuse for his personal revenge. (He was great otherwise.)

Wakanda Forever I found less good. There were still great things in it, but more issues as well. The biggest was that it was trying to tell a deep story about escalating violence leading to avoidable tragedy, and it didn’t work (for me at least). There were a number of reasons why, but the most significant was Namor. I liked Namor, and I bought who he was and why he acted the way he did. But it didn’t work for the story the film was trying to tell. Namor began the film at “You are going to help me wipe out the entire surface world, or I will start with you.” And that doesn’t leave him anywhere to go/escalate. Sure, he gets upset when one of his people gets killed during Shuri’s rescue, but his response is actually considerably smaller than what he’d already promised to do. (He also only lost the final fight because he chose not to go to the very nearby water to reinvigorate himself, but that’s less important. :p)||

It seemed like they wanted a standard Lion King rightful king takes the throne kinda movie but they also wanted political commentary but they were really hamstrung by it being a marvel movie

bp1 ||Killmonger's plan was bad, that's true. It would have caused a lot of death and chaos and got him the war he wanted, but it wasn't going to end well for anyone. We were told he was really good at creating chaos and bringing down governments, but I think it's not necessarily a flaw with the film that he was bad at ruling and long-term planning.||

Late to the discourse, but I really liked Black Panther 1 because at a time when there were a dozen MCU movies or so out, it felt like this one could be watched on its own as a standalone or an entry point (kind of like Tress for Cosmere), though as others have said it suffers from third act CGI right. While it was another case of the villain essentially being a copy of the hero's powers, Killmonger had an interesting background/motivation.

Wakanda Forever felt like it was trying to do too much all at once- like it was nice to introduce Riri but idk what she's doing in an already overstuffed film tbh, except to be a hook for future work. (Ironheart is interesting, and I think six episodes was the perfect amount for it)

I have no idea how I feel about the second one because I was still very in the closet and had no idea how to handle the fact that I was incredibly attracted to Namor.
I spent the whole movie guiltily staring at his body when he was onscreen and feeling terrible about it when he was offscreen.
So I'm sure I'd be able to put together a coherent opinion if I watched it now, but really all I can say about it currently is that Namor is fiiiiiine

Emmy Eligibility is June through May so all of Andor and WoT are eligible. The issue is someone also has to put their names in. The fee is nominal but I'm not sure who can nominate for category other than actors. And the actors sometimes have to submit for themselves if the studios don't get their act together. Looks like it would be the producers who decide what shows go in for noms.
